Cora had monthly appointments with the gynaecologist and obstetrician, they wanted to do a weekly check-up as soon as she reached her 5th month.
So, from February, she was seeing them weekly, all was going well. The baby was growing normally and there were no signs of problems. Even though Cora was feeling restless, when she got in her 6th month.
Robert turned on his side and brushed Cora's back, who was laying on her side. "Breath, honey."
Cora tried to calm herself down and took a deep breath. She brushed her hands over her growing belly. "I am almost 7 months pregnant, I am just scared."
Robert moved over to lay against her, he scooted her up with his arms and pressed her against his chest. "Darling, we will take good care of you and the baby, the little one is still moving right?"
Cora turned her face and took his hand to press on her belly. "Very active."
Robert felt the little kicks and nuzzled his nose in Cora's hair. "We will make sure this little one comes home safe."
Their bedroom door opened, and Edith walked in. She crawled onto the bed on Cora's side.
Cora gave her a kiss, "Good morning, dear, did you sleep well?"
Mary followed and crawled in on Robert's side, so he had to let go of Cora. "Girls what are we going to do today? It's a lovely sunny Sunday."
Mary and Edith both yelled: "Zoo"
Robert looked at Cora. "Are you up for that?"
"I will be, if we just take it slow, we can have a fun day there. We need to dress up well, it is a bit chilly today"
Robert packed a backpack with drinks and snacks for the girls. He also brought the stroller. He could carry one of the girls, but not both, and Cora wasn't going to carry any of them!
The day in the zoo was fantastic. The sun was shining, and Mary and Edith loved all the animals.
"Mama, mama, look a lion!" Edith exclaimed. Cora lowered herself and put an arm around Edith.
"What does a lion do?"
"Raaawwwwrrrr" Edith made the sound of a lion perfectly. And then she ran of to the next enclosure.
"Darling, wait for us." Cora tried to get up as fast as possible, but almost lost her balance.
"Are you alright?" Robert had a worried look on his face when he handed her his hand.
"Perfectly, I just lost my balance." Cora gave Robert a smile. "Edith, stop running please. EDITH! come back." She yelled at her. "We will go home if you don't listen!" She hissed.
"No, mama, no please, we are not going home? Daddy?" Mary almost had tears in her eyes.
Robert gave Cora a look. He had a weak spot for Mary's sad face. "Darling, we can't do that right?"
"Robert, Edith needs to listen and if she doesn't listen there are consequences. Can you please go get her before she runs of to the next enclosure?"
Mary took Cora's hand. "Mama, can we go look at the elephants?"
Cora smiled at her, she knew what Mary was doing. With her 4,5 years old she was a very smart child. She knew how to influence you. Cora gave in and decided to let Robert handle Edith.
At the end of the day Robert said to Cora: "We could go eat a that place where they make children happy?"
Cora looked at him in surprise, not understanding what he meant.
"You know that place where in our youth there was a clown?"
"Oh, haha, sorry, yeah of course we can eat there. I think the girls will love that."
The girls almost jumped out of the driving car when Robert drove into the parking lot of McDonald's.
Cora turned around. "Girls, there is one condition."
Robert put his hand on Cora's knee and gave a little squeeze. He tried to stop her or make her warning less firm.
"We will behave ourselves inside, no whining or not listening, otherwise we go straight home." Cora ignored Robert's hand.
Edith and Mary both nodded in agreement. They behaved perfectly well inside the restaurant. Both girls got a Happy Meal.
Back home, Cora wanted to put Edith and Mary to bed, but Robert said. "You can sit down, I will take care of the girls. The day was long enough."
When he came back, he found Cora on the couch, reading a book. She had put a pillow under her feet to keep them high. He saw her legs were swollen. He picked up her legs and laid them on his lap, and started rubbing her feet and legs.
Cora let out a soft moan.
"It was too much, wasn't it? All the walking we did today?"
"I enjoyed every minute of it, and these painful legs are worth it."
"Are you sure? You were quit firm with the girls today?"
Cora just looked at Robert.
"Well, I mean, Edith wasn't running far away and the girls didn't get the chance to misbehave in the restaurant."
"Can we let it rest? We had a good day!" Cora sighed and rubbed her belly.
"Darling are you really ok? You look like you are having some discomfort?"
Cora gave him a smile. "Darling, I am having the normal pregnancy discomfort right now. The baby is very active, as long as our little bean is moving, I am happy."
The next two months had gone smooth, the gynaecologist was happy with how the baby was growing. Cora was almost full-term and was pretty done with being pregnant.
Robert left for work, he gave Cora a kiss. She was in the kitchen making breakfast for the girls. He was standing behind her and had his hands around her big belly.
"Can you lift up my belly, even if it is just for one minute?"
Robert did as she asked, and he felt her body relax. He had the weight of their baby in his hands. "I am again amazed how you do this. Carrying around all this weight and taking care of me and the girls."
Cora rested her head against his shoulder. "Well, I can promise you this, this is our last one. I am not doing this again. Can you hold on a little longer?"
Robert tightened his grip and kissed her neck. "We will be a happy family with three children, what could we wish for more. I need to let go, I am late for work." He let her belly go very slowly. Cora let out a big sigh when she felt the weight back on her body.
"Please be home before dinner."
Cora was standing at the gate of Mary's school, she was chatting with other mothers, when she felt a sharp pain. She grabbed her belly and had to steady herself against the gate. She took a deep breath. Was this….
Mary came running out of school. Just before she reached Cora she stopped. "Mama?"
Cora forced a smile. "Did you have a fun day? Are you ready to go home?"
One of the other mothers walked with her to her car. "Are you sure you can drive home?"
"I don't really have a choice, have I." She felt another sharp pain and was a bit worried it was coming so fast already.
"Come on, get in my car, Tyson is going to play at a friend's house. I will bring you home."
Cora agreed. She texted Robert. 'I think you need to come home, asap!"
Nanny was home with Edith, she saw the state Cora was in and rushed Mary into the play area. "Has Sir Robert already been noticed?"
Cora was just having a contraction and only nodded. Breathing the pain away. "I need to go to the hospital."
The mother who had driven her home was still standing in the doorway. "I will bring you!"
When Robert arrived at the hospital, he found Cora sitting on a bed with a little bundle in her arms.
She had a smile on her face from ear to ear. "Come and look at your little girl."
"A girl! Another sweet girl?" Robert took big steps into the room. He first kissed Cora and then he looked at the baby. She was perfect, he kissed the top of her head. "I am sorry I was too late to be there for you."
Cora just shook her head. "There was no way you would have been on time. I barely made it on time to the hospital. In the car I already got the urge to push. This was a very fast delivery. But I am worn out."
"You can rest now, my darling." Robert brushed her hair out of her face. "Welcome to the world Sybil Cora Crawley."
"Cora?"
"Yes, my princess, Cora, because of you we are now a family of 6 with our little star in heaven. So yes Sybil Cora, she makes our family complete."
Cora reached out to Robert. "I am blessed with you as my husband, I love you so much."
Nanny had brought Mary and Edith to the hospital. Cora was a little bit scared how Mary would react, but she was four years older now.
Mary surprised both Cora and Robert, by climbing on the bed and kissing baby Sybil on her head. Edith did the same on Cora's other side.
Robert looked at them. "How wonderful the world can be, my beautiful wife with my three darling girls. I am so perfectly happy."
Cora looked up at him, with her twinkling deep blue eyes and just smiled.
