A/N: Yes… I did! Yes I absolutely did!
Chapter 3
I made my way towards our regular lunch table and took a seat beside Teddy. God, what was wrong with her. The chick who usually had her hair straightened and would show up with a cozy jacket and some loose jeans was wearing a crop top and a tight fitting skirt with a hair slightly curled. She had everyone's attention, but why was she doing all of this. Don't get me wrong. If Teddy wanted to dress up, I would be more than happy to watch her do so, but I don't know what caused the sudden change.
I was going to wear my swim team hoodie. It was a nice bright red colored with some of the thread on the end starting to get frayed but I loved it with all my heart. I was going to pair it with my signature high waisted jeans and some nice converse, but when I went to my closet and saw the hoodie missing, the events of last night came into my head.
I hate my brother, I hate his smugness, I hate his face, I hate everything about him.
"Umm Arizona," Teddy said as she tried to get my attention.
"Yeah?"
"Did Callie talk about me when she dropped you? I mean, I don't know, did she say something?"
I thought about it. "Nope, why?" I asked as I stabbed my piece of broccoli imagining a certain Latina being on the other end instead of that poor vegetable.
"No reason."
I'm glad that Teddy is okay that she can come back to school, but she was sometimes very difficult to understand.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw my brother walking towards us along with Mark and… great! The one who shall not be named is laughing along with them as they told her something. I was really hoping to eat my lunch in peace, but I guess god has some other plans.
I looked to my right and saw Teddy quickly fixing her hair as she removed her bag from the seat beside her. Was my best friend crushing on my mortal enemy? And was it all because of that freaking accident?
I saw Tim inviting her over to our table. "Come have lunch with us," he said as he took a seat beside my best friend. I saw Teddy's face immediately fall.
"No, I'm sorry I have a thing."
I rolled my eyes. "Does the national champ get specialized meals to help her enhance her swimming?"
"Actually, my sister and I usually have lunch on Wednesdays. With her schedule being so busy and me and with my 'enhanced swimming' it's difficult to find time together, so we usually end up cooking together."
Tim took a bite of his apple. "Torres was just telling us about this guy, Turner, who was the men's champion. Callie said he was looking to switch schools as well."
I saw Mark freezing up. He was the captain, just like I was threatened by Callie, he too was threatened by this Turner guy. "I'm not saying he's coming here, just that he's looking to switch!" she clarified.
"Wow, Miami High is losing a lot of it's swimmers, is there something you are hiding from us? " I teased.
Callie immediately froze. Yes, I finally found a weak point, there was something wrong with her old school which was why all the athletes were leaving. This could be how I made sure I was the captain next year as well.
"I'm getting late, I'll see you guys at practice," she said before she left.
I turned to look at Tim. "Why did you invite her to our table? This is our table, it's sacred and only the inner circle gets to sit here! Do you see me inviting the rest of the swim team? No! You cannot just bring someone here okay?"
"Wow, the stick that's always up your ass seems to have found some room to get in deeper," he mocked me. "Relax, it's tough being the new girl."
"So this is what? Charity?"
"Nope, this is me being nice, something that you clearly don't know," he said as he stuck out his tongue. "Charity is inviting her over to help her with Algebra."
Oh my god! He did not! "Timothy Daniel Robbins! You did not invite a complete stranger to our house!"
"I did, so deal with it! He said as he dumped the apple core on my face before standing up and walking out of the cafeteria.
I hate my brother!
I have been pacing back and forth for a couple of minutes now. Tim told me that Callie was going to come here by five and it was… I looked at my watch, four forty-five. I had this plan in my head that I was going to meet her at the door and make it clear that this was my house and that this was one place that she couldn't take away from me. That I had eyes on her all the time.
This stranger came and infiltrated my team, she was probably going to become a captain but I knew one thing for sure and it was that I was not going to give up that easily. If she wanted to be captain, in the country's best school, fine! But I wasn't going to make it easy on her.
I saw her car pulling into the driveway from my bedroom window. Now was the time. Show her who's the boss Arizona! You got this! Saving your best friend from a stupid accident doesn't make her your friend automatically, she had to earn the right.
I raced downstairs and got to the front door just in time for her to ring the doorbell.
"Hey Captain! Here is your hoodie back, all laundered and clean and this is just a little something on the side for letting me borrow it." Callie said as she handed me the bag.
I looked inside and saw that she had neatly folded my hoodie and there was a brown bag resting on top of it. I opened it and quickly peaked inside. Who told her!
"Um, Teddy told me that you really like strawberry frosted sprinkle donuts so I got you one. I made it by myself and the frosting has-" I quickly took the brown bag out and handed it back to her.
"Actually, I'm cutting carbs and added sugar. With the swim season approaching in six weeks, I need to get back in shape. Thanks though I like the gesture," I said as I pulled off my best fake smile. I was not cutting back on carbs, but I couldn't let her win.
Her face momentarily fell as she clutched the bag in her hand before she looked up at me. "Get back in shape? Have you looked at your body? You're gorgeous."
Why was she complimenting me, when all I have been doing is being mean to her? Can she not take a hint? I looked up at her and saw that she meant it. I don't want her to flirt with me. I want her to go away, go away from my house, my team, my life! That's when I noticed the bangs on her forehead that weren't there before.
"You know that's a bad idea right?" I said as I pointed to her forehead. "It's going to be a task to pin them up before practice."
"Oh, I just wanted to try something new and fun for a change. New city, new me and all."
"How about volleyball?" I shot back.
Just then Tim came down the stairs. "I was beginning to think that you were abducted," he then looked at me. "Looks like I was right!"
"Fuck off Tim!"
"Mind your own business asshole!"
"Ummm, Algebra? Why don't we go do that?" Callie said as she followed my brother upstairs. Great, she has infiltrated my home now.
After what seemed like ages, both Tim and Callie came down to the kitchen as I was helping mom and dad setting the table.
"Thank you for letting me into your home Mr. and Mrs. Robbins, I'll head out now," Callie said.
"Why don't you join us for dinner dear?" My mom asked.
I rolled my eyes. Yay, more time with Callie in my house. Why does God hate me so much!
"Actually, I need to get back."
"We can call your parents sweetie, let them know you are having dinner with us."
"Um, actually they passed away a long time ago, it's just me, my sister and my niece."
I have been really mean to her, haven't I? God! What is wrong with me!
"I'm so sorry sweetie, can I at least give you a container with some dinner?"
Callie nodded, "Sure, I would love that Mrs. Robbins."
I silently watched My mom fill up a container with as much food as she could before giving it to Callie. "Sweetie. You are always welcome here okay?" My mom said as she hugged her before Callie waved everyone and left the kitchen.
Shit, I have to fix this! "Callie, wait up!" I ran out of the kitchen. "You have something that belongs to me!" I said as I pointed to the brown bag.
"Oh, Tim and I split it. You said you didn't want it."
I can't seem to get anything right. "Um, text me when you get home?"
I thought Callie was about to walk out but she suddenly turned to face me. "No! Absolutely not! You don't get to play the "let's be nice to the girl who lost her parents" card on me, no thank you!"
"I wasn't-"
"No, but you were. I don't need your sympathy, pity or whatever you think you are doing. You hate my guts, I know that! You are threatened by me and I respect that! But I will not be the new girl with dead parents, that's not my story!" I tried to interrupt her again but she wouldn't let me. "You were right the first time, we are not friends! We will never be friends. I am your competition."
Just then came over. "All good?" He asked.
"Yeah, just about. Don't you think so too, Captain?" Callie asked.
"Okay, so Mom told me to make sure you got home safely. Apparently she cares more about you than her son walking back home in the freezing cold."
"It's fine Tim."
"Trust me Callie, you said no to my mom once, she will not let you get away with it twice." He said as he grabbed his jacket. "Actually, maybe Arizona can drive my car and follow us to your house and then we can get back together."
"Okay," Callie said as the three of us headed out. Tim was riding with Callie and I was driving alone. I was not taking pity on her, I was just… God! Why did it always have to be so difficult with her! Why can't she just see that I don't mean any harm! It's just, I'm wired that way! I'm competitive and she's competition, I meant no harm!
We came to a stop next to this big beautiful house. Wow this is a really pretty house and it's just three of them here? I saw an older Latina woman from one of the windows. That must be Callie's sister, she was bouncing a cute little baby girl on her lap. Damn it! I was really mean to her.
I saw Tim getting out of the car as he came over to Callie's side of the door and leaned over her window. They seemed to be talking about something, they were smiling and then suddenly I saw Tim leaning down and kissing Callie.
What? No! Just no! What was going on! You don't just kiss girls like that! Jeesh she was just over to study Algebra at our house. For goodness sakes her sister is inside, her sister with her very young child. This is wrong Tim! Stop kissing her.
I saw Callie pushing Tim away as she sadly smiled at him. Tim's head was hung low. Yes! She rejected him! Good job Callie!
Wait, why was I rooting against my brother?
Teddy!
That's right!
My best friend was crushing on Callie which is why it's wrong that Tim was kissing her, that's the one and only reason that I care or have an opinion on this! It was because of my best friend!
That's it!
A/N: Yes, I did… I hope it's obvious what I did, but if it isn't I'm not going to spoil it!
