Chapter 1

Arizona was super excited; Sofia had been in New York with Callie and Penny for 3 whole long months and was coming home to Seattle for a whole 2 weeks for a school holidays. She had prepped taking 10 days off which was as much as the hospital would let her. The other 3 days Meredith had agreed to take off so Sofia could see her best friend, Zola. In return most of her 10 days Arizona knew she'd have 2 giggling 6-year-olds to entertain, if not all 4 children at her house. That was great though, the more the merrier her house had sat empty and quiet for too long and she had plenty of fun activities planned, ferry trips, zoo, sea life centre. While Meredith had been unwell and admitted to hospital post attack Arizona had stepped in and taken over their care with the nanny bonding closely. Since Meredith had got better, she had barely seen them and barely spoken to Meredith. Still, none of that mattered, her baby was coming home, Sofia was going to have the best time of her life.

In truth Arizona was worried about her beautiful daughter their skype calls had become shorter, and she'd been more withdrawn. When she'd brought it up with Callie or Penny they'd hadn't noticed or attributed it to moving away, late nights and a new school. Arizona just felt something was off and couldn't wait to be wrong. It was mostly Penny at home when she did skype her daughter, Callie was nowhere to be seen, Sofia explained Mamma was at work. It was another thing Arizona wished she could see just how much time Callie was spending with her daughter, was that why she was withdrawn? Did she just miss her Mommy and Mamma?

Arizona checked the house again making sure everything was perfect the kitchen was stocked with lots of treats, her bedroom was spotless with fresh sheets on the bed and a new book and game, while normally the stricter of the 2 mom's this 2-week period was about love and fun and family.

Arizona checked the clock again impatiently, Sofia's flight landed at 1945, she'd finished up work early to make sure everything was perfect. It was 1800 and it took 30 minutes to get to the airport. She was going to go take a slow drive. In reality she was just too excited to stay in any longer. She grabbed the cuddly toy and balloons and began the drive. Once at the airport Arizona grabbed a coffee and checked the gate 4 times, to make sure she was in the right place. Then it was just getting the prime spot so the moment Sofia walked through those doors she would see her.

She was rewarded finally when the doors opened, and her daughter came through holding the hand of an air stewardess.

"Mommy" Sofia cried running over to her, Arizona closed the distance grabbing her daughter holding her tightly before lifting her up settling her on her hip.

"Sorry Ma'am I will need to see some ID" the air stewardess insisted. Arizona nodded carefully putting Sofia down and getting out her license. "Great thanks, she was a star, see you next time Sofia"

"Bye Rachel" Sofia waved. "Mommy, who are they for?" She asked pointing at the balloons and teddy.

"My most favourite person in the whole world."

"Who is that?" Sofia asked innocently, looking around for someone else.

"You" Arizona replied, her heart breaking, as she hugged her daughter again. "You are my number 1 favourite person ever" she promised trying to get rid of any doubts Sofia might have.

Sofia's face lit up, "You're my favourite person too Mommy" Sofia replied as Arizona gave her the teddy and the balloons to carry, swapping them for the suitcase. Arizona grinned her heart lightening, she was Sofia's favourite that was a win. Suck on that Callie and Penny.

"Let's go home" Arizona ordered as Sofia yawned. In New York time it was well past Sofia's bedtime. In the car Arizona played Disney songs loudly both singing really loudly, part of Arizona's prep had been to get the Disney CD's back into the car and the DVD's out. Even in the 3 months they'd separated Arizona hadn't forgotten one word as she belted out all the words, working with Peds for so many years helped with that memory.

"Mommy you're really good" Sofia gushed, Arizona smiled,

"You're brilliant too"

"Mamma sings good too" Sofia added, "Penny doesn't sing though" she revealed a little sadly.

"Your Mamma is an amazing singer" Arizona agreed remembering all the times she had walking in on Callie singing, in the shower, cleaning, even reading she'd be humming something. Callie had such a strong unique voice,

They pulled up at the house, Arizona jumped out followed by Sofia.

"Are you hungry?" She asked, Sofia shook her head, "Mamma brought sandwiches and I ate them on the plane" she explained,

"Okay, bath then bed" Arizona ordered as she carried Sofia's case into her room.

As they approached the bathroom Sofia stopped,

"I can do it myself" she decided, Arizona forced a smile, Sofia was growing up without her. She used to love bath time. Loved splashing around, and Arizona loved the extra time with her daughter the 1 on 1 bonding time. It was just one sign of how much she had missed allowing her daughter to live in a different state.

"Oh, okay I'll get you pyjamas ready then"

"I can do that too" Sofia said stubbornly. "I'm a big girl now mommy I'm 6" she huffed looking so much like a mini-Callie Arizona knew there was no point arguing.

"Okay, well I'll run the bath while you pick what you want to wear," Arizona bargained running the water and getting the towels and toys out. Sofia returned and waited pointedly until Arizona left before undressing. Arizona sat outside the bathroom feeling lost at least she hadn't locked the door. Her little girl was growing up without her. Still Sofia was happy, Callie was happy even perfect Penny was happy in New York. If Callie and Sofia where happy Arizona could live without them. Hearing the bath drain Arizona climbed to her feet. A Pyjama clad Sofia came out, Arizona noticed the bath toys were on the shelf where she had left them still dry. Was her daughter too old for toys too? Arizona wondered,

"Okay what story do you want?" Arizona asked holding Sofia's hand

"I don't need a story Mommy" Sofia said dumbfounding Arizona, Sofia loved story time 3 months ago, would beg for book after book before sleeping. Was that daughter gone? Had she grown up that much in 3 months. Was it because she was tired, Arizona knew the answer, all these changes were what concerned her in the first place, what had concerned her for months, her happy bouncy daughter was changing into a moody teenager quicker than expected?

"But I want to read you one, I have my favourite book and I've had nobody to read too for months" Arizona pouted picking up the little moon book.

"I guess you can read it" Sofia relented, climbing into bed. Arizona smiled, sitting on the edge of the bed

"Little moon in the sky" she began as Sofia snuggled into her side. This felt right, this was home. As the book finished Sofia was fast asleep, Arizona extracted herself and kissed Sofia's forehead. Something was up with her baby, but she had 2 weeks to find out what. Despite the early hour Arizona headed to bed, taking off her leg and reading medical journals until she fell asleep.

Something was making a noise, Arizona woke up, somebody was moving, Sofia or a burglar either way Arizona needed to investigate as the noise was now in the kitchen. Firstly, she put on her leg, whatever she was facing she didn't want to do it on crutches she did take a crutch with her in case it was a burglar in the kitchen. Whoever it was had picked the wrong house to mess with, there was a momma bear in this one who'd do anything to protect her baby.
