Act 3, Scene 12

11th of the 5th Cycle

A city of tents sprawled over the western end of the Nazuchi Isthmus. A blanket of lights covered the earth under the night sky as the Shogunate Army dealt with the fallout from the battle.

Watatsumian corpses were loaded onto ships then thrown overboard in the Nazuchi Bay, to feed the fishes. Pyres illuminated the night as Inazuman corpses were burnt one by one, then their bones were boxed and sent back to Narukami and Kannazuka for burial.

Prisoners of war were chained and forced-marched back to Tatarasuna. They were to be used as labour for repairing the Mikage Furnace, or die trying. High ranking prisoners such as Watatsumi clan members and generals were shipped back to Narukami Island to face sentencing after the war.

Sailors of the Crux Fleet were forced to swear never to return to Inazuma upon the pain of death, and never to take up arms against an Inazuman. Captain Beidou accepted, and agreed to pay the full ransom for their freedom. For now they would be shipped back to Karasu Castle, and be released after the war.

Kaedehara Kazuha was a known outlaw, and had his 2 visions confiscated under the Vision Hunt Decree. For his crimes against the Shogunate, he was to be executed via beheading, but Captain Beidou offered to pay a premium for his release. Despite Kujou Sara's protests, the other officers agreed to accept Beidou's offer. Kazuha was released, his clan name revoked from him, as an exile.

The Shogunate Army prepared to retake Yashiori Island. Fierce resistance was to be expected, the Sangonomiya would make good use of guerilla warfare and hit and run tactics, but the Shogunate had no way around it.

The 1st Division was to secure the eastern coast of the island, and retake all the port towns, Setsuzoku Port especially. The 2nd Division was to make a beeline for Fujitou Castle, the headquarters of the Watatsumi Army, and lay siege. The 3rd Division was to clear out the interior of the island, and retake Higi City. Lastly, the 4th Division was created, formed entirely out of magi, their purpose was to reseal the Tatarigami.

Despite their victory in the Battle of Red Shores, the 2nd Armada under Hiiragi Sadatake was heavily ravaged by the Watatsumi Fleet, and was forced to a defeat in Nazuchi Bay. Admiral Hiiragi was slain in the battle, and his flagship was sunk. As such, the 1st and 2nd Armadas were merged under Admiral Kagawa Noriko, with orders to hunt down and sink the Watatsumi Fleet.

The morning came to life as 80,000 men packed up their tents and supplies, and marched into Yashiori Island. All the generals knew, this would be the most difficult part of the campaign.

Kamuijima Cannons roared as they spat smoke and Electro. The walls of Higi crumbled under the onslaught as ashigaru stormed the breaches. Fighting continued through the streets all the way to Higi Castle, the seat of the Washizu Clan. Shogunate magi weaved their sorceries and brought down the castle's walls, allowing ashigaru to storm the keep. Lord Washizu was captured and executed for rebellion.

Chaos reigned supreme as the 1st Division floundered against an unseen enemy. In the dark of night, shadows dashed through the Shogunate camp, burning supplies, releasing horses, killing officers in their sleep. As the soldiers woke in panic and hastily equipped themselves, hundreds of Yuna Clan cavalry thundered down the slope, killing lances glinting in the moonlight. It is noted that if it weren't for Naganohara Yoimiya's brave actions during the battle, losses may have been even more severe.

Arrows blotted out the Sun as the 2nd Division rained hell on Watatsumi forces. The Watatsumi Army was holding a narrow passageway at the north end of Yashiori Island. With the Sea of Inazuma to the north and a sheer cliff face to the south, the 2nd Division has no choice but to hammer against the Watatsumi Army. Wave after wave of ashigaru were sent, arquebusiers fired volley after volley, and sorceries bloomed overhead. The Watatsumians responded with locking their shields and holding their ground time and time again, counter-sorceries arcing above them.

19th of the 5th Cycle

The 3rd Division crossed the Musoujin Gorge to the south, travelling northwards to support the 2nd Division. The Watatsumi Army sent most of their troops back to Fujitou to avoid encirclement, leaving 2,000 men behind as a rear guard, and as sacrificial lambs. Fighting back to back, the 2,000 fought to that last man against the two Shogunate armies.

17th of the 5th Cycle

Watatsumi Island was devoid of natural resources, thus Jakotsu Mine on Yashiori Island was crucial to their war effort. The 1st Division needed to deprive them of it. When they arrived however, the mining town was long abandoned, and the Watatsumi Army had turned the Mine into an underground fortress. Every cave was laden with hidden traps, every mineshaft fortified to the teeth. It would take weeks, even months to clear out the Mine.

After failed attempts at negotiations, Kujou Sara ordered the 1st Division to collapse the Mine's entrances with explosives. See, most Jakotsu Mine lay below sea level, so General Kujou ordered her men to dig drainages leading into the Mine from the Sea.

The first day passed, then the second, then the screaming started on the third day. Soldiers could hear Watatsumians banging against the rock, begging and crying to be let out. Once water started pouring out of the collapsed tunnels, the drainages were filled back in, and the 1st Division packed up and left.

23rd of the 5th Cycle

The 2nd and 3rd Divisions started assaulting Fujitou Castle. Kamuijina Cannons roared and sorceries exploded, but the walls of Fujitou held firm. Fortified with reinforcement magic and runes, Fujitou Castle would not succumb so easily. The Shogunate Army settled in for a siege.

24th of the 5th Cycle

The 1st Division easily broke through Watatsumi lines and stormed Setsuzoku Port. As they reached the harbour, they could see Sangonomiya ships trying to flee; they had caught the Watatsumi Fleet at harbour. The 1st Division couldn't pursue, as they did not have ships of their own, but they didn't need to. Out of the morning mist emerged the 1st Armada, striking at the surprised Watatsumians as they tried to flee back to Watatsumi Island.

Strange devices were found in the cargo of some of the Watatsumi vessels. They looked like Visions, but clearly weren't. After interrogation, some soldiers confessed that they had received them from the Fatui, and acted as artificial Visions. Several officers convinced General Kujou to report this information to Tenshukaku only after the war had ended, as they could not afford a diplomatic battle right now. She agreed.
