AN/ Here is a new chapter and I was helped by Jax. I hope you will enjoy it. Let me know.
«Calliope?»
Not able to help herself, Callie let a sob escape her. She tried not to but her emotions were too strong, Arizona was really here lying in a bed in front of her, totally broken and vulnerable, her tears began to fall and she had no way of stopping them.
«Calliope, is that really you?» Arizona asked again.
«Yes, yes it's me.» Callie replied, wiping away her tears. «I'm here Arizona. I got you.»
«But... How...» Arizona mumbled, clearly shocked to see the face of her ex-girlfriend. «You can't be here...»
«Arizona sweetie, tell us what happened to you.» Miranda approached her. «I know, I know you're maybe not ready to, but we are here to help you. We know someone has hurt you, and you didn't deserve it.»
«Where am I? Why are you both here?» Arizona panicked, her bp increasing suddenly.
«Arizona you need to calm down ok. I will explain everything...» Miranda continued.
«Calliope, you have to go... Please go... Go away...» Arizona almost yelled. «You can't be here. Just leave...»
«I'm not going anywhere Arizona. I'm...»
«Maybe you should give her some space Callie.» Amelia said.
«No!» Callie retorted. «No, I'm not leaving...»
«Come on Callie... You need to go, just for the time being.» Amelia insisted, taking her arm. «We'll come back, but I think Arizona needs to talk with someone more … neutral.»
Callie looked at Bailey who simply nodded at her. Arizona was turning her face, trying not to look at her ex-lover while silently crying. There was something going on and Callie really wanted to take her in her arms and reassured her that everything would be okay.
But for now, Amelia was leading her outside the room, and she was devastated.
«It's okay now, she's gone.» Bailey said, grabbing the blonde's hand. «You need anything?»
Arizona looked at her friend and didn't say a word. Bailey was here, in front of her and she was confused.
«I... I was hit by a car...» Arizona remembered. «I was running, I was ….»
Tears rolled down bruised cheeks, and it broke Bailey's heart.
«Take your time. I'm here to help, to listen... Whatever you need. But I need to know if we should call the police first.»
«They can't do anything...» Arizona said. «They can't...»
«Do you want us to call them anyway?» Miranda insisted. «I don' t want to push you. You are in control of everything ok. We just want to be prepared if... If this person tries to get in here to try and see you...»
«Call them.» Arizona said, coldly.
«Ok.» Miranda texted Owen to let him take care of it. «That person shouldn't be allowed to be around Matthew, should they?»
«She... She promised she wouldn't hurt him, but she did...» Arizona tightened her grip on Bailey's hand. «She promised...»
«He's okay now, he's with Alex Karev, Remember him? He's a peds surgeon like you now.» Miranda smiled.
«And I check on him regularly, he's going to be okay now. He's a sweet boy.»
«I... You have to tell Callie he's not mine. He's Tim's.» Arizona said. «I didn't have a kid. Tim died and his girlfriend was pregnant. She... She... She died in childbirth. Pre-eclampsia...»
«I'm sorry for your loss Arizona.» Miranda sadly said.
«And she didn't have any close relatives, and I was the only family able to look out for him. So, I'm his legal guardian.» Arizona said, a proud smile lightening her bruised face.
«The woman who hurt Matthew, is she the one I saw with you a few months back?» Miranda asked cautiously.
Arizona frowned before remembering that episode.
«Yeah...» she admitted.
«And have you known her for a long time?»
«A little more than four years I guess...» Arizona said. «I'm sorry, sometimes I have a hard time remembering things.»
«It's okay Arizona, you don't have to apologize for anything here. You are safe.» Miranda reassured her. «How long have you been back in Seattle?»
«A little less than a year? I guess. I don't know exactly. I wasn't even sure we were really in Seattle. Until I met you at the mall.» Arizona explained. «Everything is so confusing. We got back here because I had to sign official papers for Matthew and because Jamie had been fired from her team. She had an old friend here who offered her a new job.»
«This woman, Jamie, is she the one who... hurt you?» Miranda asked quietly.
«Yeah...» Arizona replied, her lips shaking. «I'm sorry...»
«It's okay sweetie. You must be exhausted. I'm going to let you rest.» Bailey smiled.
«Will you stay here until I sleep?» Arizona asked shyly.
«Of course...»
...
Callie was walking without any real purpose. She was frustrated to say the least. She wanted to be there for Arizona, but apparently the blonde wasn't ready to see her.
She knew her ex-girlfriend must have been through hell, and she needed to be patient, but after years of waiting for her, it was really hard to stay away.
Waiting was something Callie hated in general, and it was worse when it came to her personal life.
«Hey Callie.» Meredith called her as she passed a room where the general surgeon was coming out of with her daughter.
«Hey Mer... Hi Zola. How are you big girl?» Callie smiled as the little girl offered her a genuine smile. «Is she okay? Why are you in a room with her?»
«She's okay, don't worry. And you're on the peds ward if you hadn't noticed.» Meredith told her friends. «We came to play with Matthew.»
«Oh... You mean...»
«You should get in there Callie, he's so cute!» Meredith said. «And he loves to having company.»
«I don't know Mer...It just feels so weird...» Callie shrugged.
«It's a kid Callie, you love kids. And you don't know his story, so don't rush to conclusions.» Meredith stated. «Just go and meet him. And now we are going home because Derek is waiting for us...»
Looking at the mother and daughter leaving, hand in hand, Callie smiled and thought about Sofia who was in the hospital day care.
She was about to go there to spend some time with her, when she heard Matthew crying.
« Nana! » the little boy called between sobs. « Nana! »
She entered the room and found him crying. Her heart melted when she saw the tears in his big blue eyes. He was a portrait of a Robbins' child , with piercing eyes and dimples.
His hair was curlier and his skin more tanned, but otherwise, she knew he was Tim's or Arizona's immediately.
Seeing the newcomer in his room, the toddler stopped sobbing. He looked at Callie intensely and offered her the most beautiful smile.
« Hey... » Callie approached him and looked back at him with a smile. « What's the matter baby boy? »
...
Arizona was still awake, resisting her body's need for sleep.
« You can sleep Arizona; nothing is going to happen to you here. » Bailey reassured her.
« Can I ask you a question? » the blonde hesitated. She had been holding this simple fact in for so long, she didn't really know if it was safe to divulge what she believed.
« Sure, anything. » Bailey smiled.
« Why... Why was Callie here? » Arizona asked with concern.
« Because she cares for you Arizona, everybody is thrilled to have you back, you know? » Miranda replied.
« But Callie didn't want to have anything to do with me. You know that... » Arizona said.
« Just because you are not together anymore, doesn't mean she doesn't care about you. She has been by your side since you got here. I have had to force her to go home to get some rest. » Miranda explained.
« But why? » Arizona repeated.
« Arizona, what's the problem? » Miranda worried. « I know you were devastated when your relationship ended, but as I told you, she cares a lot about you. »
« That's not true. She doesn't give a crap. » Arizona snapped.
« Why are you saying that? »
« Because she's the reason this happened to me! »
