A/N: Thank you for the love on this story. Ideas just keep jumping in my head so that is why this one is getting a bit more love than The Race.
Seriously, you guys are the best.
You get the answer to were Tim has been here. I am changing the name of the organization that the Army was fighting against. I don't want to name any actual terrorist organizations in this story. So don't be confused.
FYI this is a M story. For language and you all know I can't have Calzona without some smut (that is in the future). This chapter drops a few F bombs.
Chapter 4
Somewhere on the way to Seattle
"How are you doing sweetie?" Barbara Robbins was so excited to see her daughter. It had been three years and there had only been a few Skype sessions over that time. The hug she received when she boarded the private jet was enough to make a mother melt. They caught up a bit, but since then her daughter has been intently studying the scans and papers in front of her.
"Hmmm?" Arizona half heartedly responded to her mother. She had missed her and was so glad to see her. But, Tim's scans were not making a lot of sense to her and she was deep in thought.
"Bug. Your mother is talking to you." Daniel Robbins missed his daughter. Their connection was fierce, but no one would disrespect his wife.
"Sorry." Arizona closed the files and gave her parents her undivided attention.
"I asked how you were doing." Barbara grabbed her daughter's hand, missing the connection.
"Um. I don't really know to be honest. One second I am in Africa, the next we are going to see Timmy. Who we buried. It is a lot." Arizona relished the calming touch of her mother.
"I know honey. But, he is alive. It is a miracle." Tears began to swell in her eyes. "Both of my babies, in the same place. I…I just can't believe it." Finally the tears fell. Before they knew it they were all crying. The whole situation was just a lot. Deciding to veer from the heavy topic, Barbara in typical mother fashion, had to ask.
"Soooo. Callie called you."
"Yes mother." Arizona didn't want to do this right now. She was more interested in Tim.
"How was that?"
"Well. It was the first time I heard from her after leaving her in the airport 3 years ago. She calls to tell me my brother rose from the dead, and then throws a private jet our way. How is that suppose to feel? I feel even shittier now for what I did to her three years ago. She saved Tim's hand for christ sake." Arizona was yelling and pacing. She threw the updated scan on the table like her parents knew what to do with it.
"What do you mean saved his hand?" Daniel chimed in.
Arizona picked up the scan and started pointing to the pieces of metal that stretched through parts of Tim's hand. "Do you see these lines? Well, Callie sat and meticulously reconstructed these fingers around this metal. His hand was shattered. She is literally rebuilding it piece by piece. She couldn't finish because his body was weak, but I can tell she is going to go back in. Callie doesn't leave anything unfinished….she's miraculous. An artist." Arizona said in awe.
Barbara and Daniel Robbins watched as Arizona spoke about her ex girlfriend. They knew that Arizona still loved the brunette. They still loved her. They couldn't imagine the turmoil going through their daughter's emotions at the moment. Barbara grabbed the folders and placed them down.
"Come sweetie, you must be exhausted. Lay down. We will be there soon." Arizona obeyed her mother and laid her head in her lap. She fell asleep as her mother played with her hair just the way she liked.
Seattle, Washington
"Mama. Dada doesn't do good voices." Sofia whined. Her mother had been at the hospital for the last 2 days and she missed her.
"I'm sorry, Sof. I will be there when you wake up in the morning!" The Latina said through the phone.
" Pomise?"
"Promise. I love you."
"Wub you too!" Callie smiled as her daughter blew her a kiss, which she eagerly returned. Mark had Facetimed Callie as he and Sofia headed out for the morning. Sofia was going to daycare and Mark was coming into work.
There was no custody agreement in place for Sofia. Callie and Mark were still best friends. If Callie had to guess, she had Sofia 80% of the time. She just preferred the little girl sleeping at her place. Mark was an excellent father, but that is just how things were.
Seeing her pager beep, her heart dropped. Arizona and her family were here. Holy shit.
Walking into Tim's room she was met with that damn dimple smile. "Alright superstar. Your family is here. You ready?" She smiled at him.
"Uhh. As ready as I will ever be." He scratched the back of his head. Something Arizona always did when she was nervous. She had no idea why he was nervous, but it wasn't her problem.
"Well. I am going to head out. I will be back to update your family about your hand a little later, okay?"
"You don't want to see her?" If Callie had learned anything in the last 48 hours, it was Tim asked what was on his mind no matter what.
"Honestly, I don't know."
"She hurt you." It wasn't a question.
"Yeah…yeah she did." Callie grabbed her lab coat and headed out the door. She had pushed a few non emergency surgeries and she needed to break some bones. It was going to be a long day.

Walking into Seattle Grace felt weird, but it also felt like coming home. Richard Webber was waiting for the Robbins family when they arrived.
"Dr. Robbins. So good to see you. I don't really know what to say here, not I am so sorry, or congratulations…? Nothing feels right. Just know, your brother has received the absolute best care. Dr. Torres hasn't left his side since he came in 2 days ago." Richard was introduce to Barbara and Daniel and took to the elevators located out of sight. The 4 of them loaded into the elevator and Dr. Webber pressed the #12.
"Dr. Webber. Isn't the ortho wing on the 4th floor?" Ariozona had been gone a while, but she spend a lot of time on that floor when she worked here.
"Yes it is. But, your brother is on the VIP floor." He smiled his warm smile at Arizona. He had always really enjoyed the woman and was hoping he could convince her to come back to Seattle.
"That isn't necessary sir. But, thank you."
"Once you settle a bit, would you mind stopping by my office? I wanted to talk to you. Catch up a bit." He held the door open as the family stepped out.
"Of course sir."
"Alright, he is in room 1204. I will let you go from here. Like I said, Dr. Robbins whenever you have time." He shook the Robbin's hands and headed back down.
"You guys ready?" Daniel asked.
"I have never been so ready for anything in my life, Daniel." Barbara was basically dragging the two of them towards the room.

Hearing a knock on the door Timothy Robbins took a deep breath. He hadn't seen is family in 5 long years and it was his own fault. They thought he was dead. This was going to get interesting. Hearing the door slide open he heard the gasps come from the three people that had just walked in.
"My..my baby boy." His mother was sobbing. She approached him with caution since he was casted and covered in cuts and bruises.
"Hi Mom." He smiled as she wrapped him in a hug. At that point he couldn't keep the tears in anymore. He had missed his family so much and his mother's hugs felt like coming home.
"Timothy. Son. I- It is so good to see you soldier." Daniel Robbins was openly crying, which never happened. He felt his Dad wrap him in a hug and his body began to shake as more tears streamed down his face.
"Hi Pop. Gosh, you look good." He smiled as his father ruffled his hair.
Then his eyes locked with the only eyes he had ever seen that were as blue as his. "What do you say Phoenix?" He ushered her over with his non elevated hand. She cautiously approached him. Like she didn't believe he was real.
"I didn't believe it." She whispered.
"Believe it, sis." She hugged him tightly. It hurt, but he didn't care. This was his best friend. His partner in crime. He had missed her most.
"Timmy…how? What? We buried you." Arizona sobbed.
"I will explain everything later. Can we just be together for a while? I missed you all SO much." He couldn't help the tears streaming down his face. This felt like a dream. There was a time where he truly thought he would never see his family again. But here they were.
"Of course, hunny. Of course." Barbara ushered his sister and father to sit down.
"So…Africa?" He asked with a cheeky smile.
"Yeah. Africa." She smiled back.
"Worth leaving that smoke show for?" He winked at her, letting her know he was teasing.
"We are not doing this right now. But, it was amazing. Wait. What did she say?!" Arizona had forgot about the fact that Callie was her brother's doctor.
"She refused to say much. Said it wasn't her story to tell. I will say, she hasn't left this hospital in 2 days. She was telling me about her latest research. That woman is not only hot, she is a genius. Shes been really good to me, Arizona. I think she might actually make it so I can operate again." His tone was serious. This was the first time he was seeing Arizona in 5 years. But, he needed to make sure she knew how good Callie had been to her.
"Yeah. She's a phenomenal surgeon. You are lucky you ended up here." Arizona smiled with pride thinking about Callie.
The Robbins family spent the next 4 hours catching up with each other. Tim still wouldn't talk about what had happened the last 5 years. He just listened to his mother and father tell him about their travels, time spent in Seattle with Arizona, and how they were looking to permanently settle down somewhere. Arizona talked about Hopkins, but kept it PG for her parents. She talked about her time in Seattle. The shooting, meeting Callie. Then she told him all about winning The Carter Madison Grant and going to Africa.
Tim was in awe of how his sister's career had exploded. He knew she poured herself into her work when she was trying to escape something. He had to assume his "death" and leaving Callie had a lot do with he basically marrying her work.
"It is just SO good to hear everything you accomplished, Arizona. I am really proud of you." He winked at his sister. She was amazing.
"Has psych come up here yet?" Arizona quickly pivoted to doctor mode.
"No…why would psych be up here?" Tim asked, clearly confused.
"Um…you have been gone for 5 years Tim. We buried you. Clearly something happened over there. Why has psych not been up here?!" Arizona went to page them but realized she didn't have a cell phone or a pager. "How could Callie not call psych? Or Hunt!"
"Calm down Arizona. I don't need psych." Tim was trying to pacify his sister. He knew he had to tell his family everything.
"Timothy. You were a POW for the last 5 years." Daniel chimed in.
"No I wasn't….." Tim responded.
Silence…
"Excuse me…?" Barbara was the first to speak.
"If you were not being held against your will, can you please explain to me where the hell you have been. Not only that, but why the hell do I have a flag from your funeral in my study?" Daniel stood up.
"It's complicated." Tim shrunk down into his hospital bed.
"Well make it uncomplicated Timmy." Arizona sat down next to her brother. She knew his scans didn't make sense.
"Your scans don't show injuries consistent with being a POW, but I didn't want to assume…."
"Our base was attacked. I would say over 90% of our unit was killed. I assume that is why you got some sort of remains sent to you. But me and about 10 other guys got out. We ran. We ran and ran until we couldn't run anymore. Finally, we found an abandoned village to stop and rest. We stayed there for a day or so. We knew we had to keep moving. We hopped from village to village for what felt like days. Going through the garbage and drinking out of water left for animals. It looked bad. About 5 days after the attack, we found this underground passage. It looked like it was out of a movie. There was a whole village of women and children underground. When we first happened upon them, they were terrified. Thankfully one of the people who survived spoke their language. They explained how their husbands were part of a rebel group that was actively fighting against the same enemy as we were. Their children were all injured in one way or another. Everyone who was part of this village had fled from other parts of the country. We set to work helping the kids. It is amazing the amount of supplies this rebel group had found. They had food, water, guns, medical supplies. They would go through and basically loot abandoned villages. They had so much intel on The Group. So much. They were making true headway in bringing them down. They had to be a solid 3 years of work and research ahead of the U.S. and everyone we had ever worked with. It was amazing. Their doctors had been taken and killed so they were starting to lose ground. Dad…I wish you could have seen these people. Such determination. Their whole lives had been blown up and yet they were fighting back. It was EVERYTHING you taught me to do. The only thing was, in order to maintain the secrecy of their location and their existence there was to be NO contact via mail, phone, etc. I couldn't reach out."
"Are you fucking kidding me Tim! We thought you were DEAD. Do you understand. D-E-A-D. FOR FIVE YEARS? You were what? Playing soldiers underground?!" Arizona was livid. She hadn't screamed like that in a loooong time.
"Arizona Robbins. Sit down and let him finish. Now." Her father left no room for negotiation.
"We fought. We fought every day. These people, they became like family. I was the only doctor there. I basically didn't leave this place the whole time. About a month ago, they had finally found the headquarters of The Group. It was 10 years of work in the making. They needed us to get the location to the Army, because there was no way that they could overtake this place alone. So me and the other 10 men who survived the explosion left the compound and made it to the embassy. When we approached they didn't initially believe who we were. However, after fingerprinting us they found out we were indeed who we claimed to be. We took a small group back to the compound and from there we worked with the Army to bring them down."
"The news said The Group's leader and all the higher ups were killed in a raid….." Daniel whispered.
"Yeah they were." Tim smiled proudly.
"So why were you a stowaway…?" Barbara asked.
"Well…they wanted us to stay over there and work undercover for a while. I initially agreed. Only if I could contact you guys. They said okay, but I couldn't officially return until all the paperwork was complete. That was going to be about 6 months from now. I didn't want to wait that long. The other guys in the unit didn't either. They allowed us all to be in the cargo spot of the plane. When the other guys said hell no, I said yes. That was NOT a good plane ride." Tim tried to add some humor to the situation.
"They called 911 when they saw me. My leg was broken in the bombing a few years back, which is why Calli – I mean, Dr. Torres had to rebreak it. I set it myself but it didn't heal properly. I got some frostbite. It is cold as hell in the bottom of a plane, just so you know. Then a heavy piece of equipment crushed my hand. Some cuts and such, but I am okay." He took a deep breath, waiting for his family to explode. He voluntarily was MIA for 5 years.
"So…you mean to tell me, you, some rebels, and 10 soldiers brought down one of the most advanced terrorist organizations out there?" Barbara was the first to speak.
"That is kind of oversimplifying it, but yes…."
"That's my boy! I would have made the same choices, son. I am proud of you, soldier." Daniel Robbins was beaming with pride. His son was a hell of a man and soldier.
"You guys are joking right…..we sat at his funeral. His fucking funeral. You're PROUD Dad? Seriously?" Arizona got up and stormed out of the room. This had to be a joke. Her brother voluntarily left and didn't come back for 5 years.
She stormed down the hall and into the closest on call room she could find. Slamming the door and sinking down she put her head in her hands and cried.
