A/N: Yes, 6 chapters in a few days. I spoil you all. I couldn't not give you their first interaction. Thank you for being patient while I laid the groundwork for their meeting. \

Fun fact about The Race…It was done. Then I went back and read it and thought it was trash so I deleted the last 5 chapters and started them over. I am going to dedicate next week to wrapping that one up. I can't leave it hanging.

Chapter 6

Seattle

Waking up to a gentle knock on the door Tim looked up to see Callie in his doorway. She stood frozen looking at the blonde who was currently asleep next to her brother. Tim stayed perfectly still. He didn't want to wake his sister and force the two to face each other in his hospital room. Call him selfish, but he didn't want to witness it. Arizona was fast asleep on his chest and he couldn't move.

"She okay?" Callie whispered. She knew that like her, only the sound of a pager could wake her up. That along with sex and donuts, but she didn't allow herself to go there.

Tim just nodded.

"Alright. Surgery is tomorrow at 2pm." She whispered. She quickly updated his chart and left the room with a small wave.

The sound of the door to the room closing is what finally startled Arizona out of her slumber.

"What did I miss?" She sat up quickly.

"Just Dr. Torres." Tim said with a smirk.

"Wait..she was here? When? She saw me?" Arizona quickly started to fix her hair and right her clothing.

"Might want to wipe the drool off your face too…." Tim couldn't help but joke with his sister. He missed teasing her.

"Shut up." Arizona stood up and realized she was still in the same clothes that she wore on the plane earlier that day. Glancing at her watch she noted that it was already past 5. Slightly grateful for the fact that she had missed Callie. She knew she wanted Callie back. But the idea of just bumping into her in the hospital didn't sit right with her. She needed to seek her out. First, she wanted to see her parents to let them know she would be booking them a hotel down the block. Then, she would go there to shower and change. After that, it was time to go see Callie. She felt that it was best to go to her and initiate the conversation. Knowing it could get ugly, she didn't want it happening in the hospital.

"Callie, sweetie. I didn't get a chance to give you a proper hello earlier. How are you?" Barbara wrapped Callie in a hug. She had missed the brunette deeply.

Callie smiled as Daniel hugged her and said hello as well.

"I am doing pretty good. I am actually going to head home. Tim's surgery is at 2 tomorrow. He and Arizona seem to have made up. She is sleeping in there. He seems good. How are you?" Callie was rambling. She was terrified that Arizona was going to walk out of that room before she could get away. She knew she had to see her, but she wasn't ready yet.

"Oh, you saw Arizona?" Daniel asked, with a bit of hope in his voice.

"Well, I saw her. But she was asleep so not really." Callie smiled. The blonde was cuddled up against her brother and looked at peace. Callie noticed how her skin had been tan, presumably from the African sun. Her hair was still the most beautiful blonde. She was still perfect. Which made it harder to see her. She didn't want her to be a mess, but it would have made her feel like she wasn't alone in being stressed about seeing her.

"Oh. Okay. Well, I need to thank you. Arizona explained how you were helping Timothy's hand. She called you an artist. Based on the explanation, I would have to agree." Daniel didn't pass out compliments frequently, but what Callie was doing for his son was huge.

"Well, I am good at what I do. I haven't heard it referred to as being an artist before. But thank you. Listen, I have to get home and rest before Tim's surgery. I would love to catch up in the next few days though. It is really good to see you two." She hugged both the Robbins and headed off to daycare to grab Sofia.

"Mama!" Sofia sprinted towards her mother.

"Hey Sof. I missed you." Callie wrapped her arms around her daughter. Soaking into the feeling of peace that spread through her at having her little girl in her arms.

"Go home?" Sofia asked, Callie knew she was wondering if Callie was coming home with her.

"You bet. Let's go." Callie signed her out of daycare and the two walked across the street back to their apartment.

After dinner, bath, and an extra story Sofia was finally fast asleep. Callie sat down to go over the surgical plan for Tim when she heard a knock on the door. Assuming it was Mark, she yelled for him to come in.

When the door didn't open, she assumed it was the wrong apartment and just went back to her glass of wine. A minute later another knock pulled her out of her focus. She got up and headed towards the door.

"You have a key to my apartment, Mark. For christ sake we share a –". She stopped her sentence when she saw who was on the other side. The blue eyes that owned her heart.

"Arizona." She whispered.

"Um. H-hi." Arizona froze. She hadn't seen Callie in 3 years. 3 long years. The woman in front of her looked stronger. More mature if that was possible to present in someone's looks. Her brunette hair was up in a messy bun. She was wearing yoga pants and a Seattle Grace hoodie. She was still the most beautiful woman Arizona had ever laid eyes on.

"Hi." Callie replied. Arizona had changed from the clothes that she was laying in earlier. She was now wearing a Hopkins hoodie, the one Callie loved to steal, and a pair of jeans. Her hair was up in a messy ponytail but Callie could tell that it was longer than it had ever been. She was gorgeous.

"Sorry to just show up here. Teddy said this is where you lived still. I wanted to come see you." Arizona was fumbling with something in her hands. She was clearly nervous.

Callie looked back and saw the toybox and children's toys littered across her living room. Along with the little shoes and coat by the door. She didn't feel like explaining that right now. She stepped into the hallway and pulled the apartment door closed a bit.

"What can I do for you?" Seeing Arizona and hearing her voice took her back to the airport. The feelings of devastation felt like they just happened yesterday.

"Oh, um." Arizona was taken back that Callie didn't at least invite her in. "I just wanted to say thank you, for Tim and everything you are doing for him." She didn't expect the coldness from the brunette. She knew she deserved it but it still took her by surprise.

"Of course. He is my patient. I am going to do everything I can for him."

"Well. I appreciate it. I also wanted to thank you for calling me and sending the jet." Arizona fumbled over her words.

"That was my dad. But you're welcome."

They stood in awkward silence for a few moments.

"Is that all?" Callie asked, ready to get back inside and away from the hurt eyes in front of her.

"Uh, yeah." Arizona turned to walk away. Callie turned to go back inside.

"Actually no..no it's not. Are we just going to act like doctor and patient family? Because we both know that isn't all we are." Arizona took a step back towards Callie.

"Actually, it is. You are my patient's family. That is all you are. You made that decision when you got on that airplane without me 3 years ago, Arizona."

"Calliope -." Arizona went to continue but was cut off by Callie putting her hand up.

"You don't get to call me that." Callie coldly replied.

"Sorry. Callie. I left because you didn't want to go!" Arizona was a confident woman. But no one could make her as nervous as Callie. "I am so, deeply sorry that I hurt you. I will spend every day saying that to you if that is what you need me to do." Tears started to pool in Arizona's eyes.

"You could have written, called, anything Arizona. But you just left. You left me and never looked back. You left like I was nothing. Like what we had was nothing." Callie's voice was trembling.

"I almost came back. Callie, so many times. But I – they needed me there."

"I needed you!" Callie yelled. "You were everything to me, Arizona. Everything. I was willing to go to Africa for you! You left me without thinking. I don't need your apology. It's too late. I needed you to not leave me like I was nothing. You had your chance to apologize. You could have reached out any time in the last 3 years but you didn't. The only reason you are here is because of your brother. I will give him the best care I can. That was never a question. But as for you and I there is nothing else to say. I am not the same person I was 3 years ago. I have people in my life that won't hurt me the way you did. People who need me. I have to go. I have a surgery tomorrow. Take care of yourself Arizona. I will update you as Tim's doctor. But that's it." Callie turned around and slammed her apartment door in Arizona's face.

Arizona let the tears flow. She didn't deserve Callie's forgiveness. She knew that. But what just happened wasn't what she had expected when she came here. To the place she and Callie lived together. She lit the cigarette she had been fumbling with and started towards the elevator. As soon as Tim was recovered, she was leaving. Pressing the down button, she waited for the elevator to arrive.

When the doors opened she was met with the face of one person she didn't miss when she was away.

"Great." She mumbled.

"Blondie? What the hell? What are you doing here?" He asked, kind of excited to see Arizona.

"Family emergency." Was all she responded.

"Everything okay?" He asked genuinely concerned.

"Yup." She brought her cigarette to her lips and walked into the elevator.

"Were you just at Torre's apartment?" He needed to know if he had to go comfort his friend. Based on the looks of Arizona if there was a conversation it didn't go well.

"Yeah. Don't worry. She's all yours. Just like you've always wanted." Arizona bitterly replied.

"Woah. Woah. You don't get to get shitty with me. You left her remember? If not, let me paint a picture for you. You left her crying in an airport where she called me to come pick her up. Then, she lived on my couch for a month while she tried to buy out the subletters on the apartment. Yeah, I picked up the pieces. But Callie and I have been and always will be just friends. I don't understand why you think there is anything more there." Mark didn't know if Arizona knew about Sofia, so he kept that to himself. "I love her. I do. I love her like family because that is what she is. So, don't put your crap on me, Arizona." He walked out of the elevator and headed to Callie's. If she needed him, he would be there. Just like he always was.

Arizona made her way back to the hotel she would be staying at for the foreseeable future. She opened the minibar and grabbed the first bottle she could find. Downing it she grabbed another. The drinks were going down smoother than they should be. She grabbed the rest of the bottles and threw herself on to the soft bed in the center of the room. She had royally screwed up. She didn't expect Callie to run back into her arms, but she had hoped the brunette would at least be happy to see her. As the effects of the alcohol took over her body, she rolled over and cried herself to sleep for what felt like the hundredth time in the last three years.

Meanwhile Mark was met with a similar picture as he consoled the brunette. They laid in Callie's bed as Callie cried about Arizona. It was like he was in a time machine from 3 years ago.

"She has the nerve to just knock on my door and then act surprised when I don't wrap her in my arms and act like she never left. What the hell, Mark?" Callie wanted so badly to open another bottle of wine. But she had a 2-year-old sleeping in the room next door and a big surgery the next day.

"Yeah, she didn't seem to happy when I saw her."

Callie clearly hadn't been listening when Mark walked in because she shot up out of bed. "Wait you guys talked. What did she say?!" Callie asked like a teenager waiting for gossip.

"I told her she doesn't get to be mad at me because she left you. She said that you were all mine, just like I always wanted. I kind of laid into her and told her we were just friends. You know, minus our kid that we made together." He laughed. He didn't notice the horrified look on Callie's face.

"You told her about Sofia?!" Callie got up and started pacing and whispering to herself in Spanish.

"No….but why do you say it like our daughter is some dirty secret?" Mark stood up defensively.

"Mark, stop. You know I don't feel that way. I just – I don't know how I want Arizona to find out about her. It looks like she left and I jumped in to bed with you and made a baby. A baby I do not regret in the least."

"Also, a baby you named after her…." He added. "You know you are still in love with her. So, what are you going to do?"

"I don't know Mark. I am just so mad at her. She comes back and knocks on my door like nothing happened?"

"Well would you rather her run into you at the hospital…? He made a good point. She was grateful they got the meeting out of the way in private. Knowing Arizona, that was intentional.

"All I'm saying is this. You love her. She loves you. She isn't in Africa anymore." He kissed Callie's head and tucked her into bed.

A/N: This is Calzona end game. Just have to be patient.
