A/N: So, Arizona and Callie are both doing some soul searching in the last few chapters. Mark was a very big point of contention in their relationship. It was a point that I don't think they ever fully addressed in Grey's because it was quickly swept under the rug once Sofia was born. I feel it was due to the traumatic birth of Sofia. Also, this is not canon. If you haven't already figured out….
The thing that I find most interesting about this fan base is that there are pretty clear lines drawn in the sand. Either you are "Team Arizona" or "Team Callie". I have always been a little partial to Arizona, just because I think Callie did fall in love with the idea of being in love at times. But post plane crash, I tend to lean more towards Team Callie. As a partner and a mother, she was and always has been SO loyal. Once she starts dating Penny I just get annoyed with her again. I also think that both of them handled things really poorly. Arizona, Africa, post plane crash, cheating. Callie, custody battle and boundaries with Mark, the whole Penny relationship was just cringe.
There was a review that kind of bothered me, honestly I usually don't care. I write you read or you don't. I like doing this and I have made some friends in this community. I think it is easy to criticize when you have never put time and effort into a story. Grey's, specifically Arizona at times had some biphobia. But you will never see that in this story. Nor will you see me giving Grey's/Arizona a pass. Callie is a strong, confident, bisexual, Latina woman. I will never take that away from that character. Also, for anyone who doesn't have children, the second they meet someone they like you no longer matter. Trust me, I have a 5-year-old that can befriend a stranger at a grocery store and they are immediately his favorite human.
There is going to be a bit of talking through the issues by all parties. At the end of the day, Sofia is the most important person to all 3 of these adults. They will figure it out. But I don't believe in snapping my fingers and making issues go away. That is why their relationship exploded in the show. They covered all their issues up with sex. While sex is great, so is communication. Just keep that in mind…. I am also unsure if I am going to have Mark with Lexie in this story. I love Slexie but I haven't decided yet 😊
Chapter 11
Callie woke up the next morning feeling a renewed sense of hope. She knew she wanted to talk to Arizona and she knew that eventually, she and Arizona would sit and have a good long overdue conversation. Callie heard her daughter's voice on the other end of the monitor and laughed at what she was hearing.
"Flower geeem and goooo" Sofia was singing the song from Rapunzel. It is the song that is sang when Rapunzel uses her hair to heal someone. "All betta Dr. Punzle!" Sofia clapped. Callie remembered that she promised Sofia they would go visit Arizona today to give her the picture. Walking into her daughter's room she smiled at the little girl. She was holding her doll and standing up waiting for Callie.
"Mami!" Sofia jumped up and down in her crib. Mark and Callie had been debating about switching Sofia to a bigger bed and Callie was content having Sof in her crib until she tried to climb out.
"Morning baby girl. How did you sleep?" Callie lifted her daughter out of her crib and carried her to the kitchen.
"Good dweams" Sofia smiled and rubbed her tired eyes. She watched as her mother fixed her breakfast and started dancing in her chair when her Mami turned the music on. They were having a dance party when her Daddy walked through the door.
"Dada!" Sofia yelled out when he entered. "Are you having a party and I wasn't invited?" Mark walked up and grabbed Sofia out of her chair and started dancing with her. "Yay Dada!" Sofia smiled at the attention she was getting from her parents.
"Alright, Sof. Breakfast." Callie put the oatmeal and fruit on her daughter's chair and laughed as the little girl pouted at having to stop dancing. "Me dance Mami." Sofia argued. "No, Sofia. Breakfast." Mark chimed in. Mark was really a great Dad and Callie was thankful how he stepped up when she told him she was pregnant. She gave him an out, offered him to be the fun uncle, and he immediately shot it down.
Callie enjoyed breakfast with her best friend and her daughter. She knew she had to talk to Mark about the realizations she had. Mark had matured greatly in the last 3 years. She attributed a lot to Sofia, but she also knew that he was ready to settle down. Was he still a man whore? Yes. But he has reigned it in a lot.
Finishing up breakfast the three finished getting ready for the day and headed towards the hospital for another day.

"I said NO." Arizona pushed the breakfast tray off out of her face. She was in a really bad mood. Everything was setting her off and she didn't know why.
"Arizona Robbins. You will eat something. The doctors said you had to eat!" Barbara pushed the breakfast back towards her daughter.
"I am a DOCTOR, mother. I am not eating this crap." She pushed the tray even further.
"Arizona." Daniel scolded.
Arizona just rolled her eyes and rolled over in bed. She wanted to get the hell out of this hospital.
"Zo. What's going on?" Tim whispered. She ignored her brother. She couldn't figure out why but she just wanted to be alone.
Suddenly Callie entered the room and that just irritated her more.
"How are we today?" Callie walked in smiling. She glanced around the room and could feel the tension. "Um okay?" She continued checking Tim's hand and his chart looking through his vitals from the night. "Everything looks good, Tim." Callie walked over and looked at Arizona.
"Are you in pain?" Callie asked her voice filled with concern.
"She's fine. She is just being a brat." Tim chimed in.
"Bite me." Arizona responded her voice cold. Callie was taken aback. She had never expected Arizona to speak to her family like that. Honestly, the last time Arizona had been this nasty was…
"Ahhhh I know what's wrong." Callie pulled out her phone and sent a text to April Kepner who was on her service today.
"Nothing is wrong." Arizona tried to stay calm. She didn't want to blow up on Callie, but she was close.
"Yes it is. You have a very strong response to the rest of the anesthesia leaving your system. The same thing happened when you had your appendix out, remember? You told me that you never wanted to talk to me again? But then the next day you told me that you missed me because I left you alone the whole day…." Callie laughed as Arizona's jaw hung open at the realization. Right when she was about to respond April knocked on the door and handed Callie what she had requested. "Thanks, Kepner." Callie put it on the tray in front of Arizona and put the straw in the cup. "Here. Banana milkshake. Strangely, the only thing that you wanted for a day or two after your surgery."
Arizona tried her best to suppress the smile that was threatening to take over her face. She remembered that now. Remembered how nasty she had been. It was pretty uncommon for people to have that reaction to anesthesia, but yeah she was a monster for a day after surgery. Also, now that she mentioned it a banana milkshake sounded absolutely delicious….Taking the offered drink she took a sip and the smile she suppressing came out, along with a satisfied moan at the tase.
Callie smiled in return at the full dimples that graced Arizona's face. But her smile quickly faded as she heard the satisfied moan come from the blonde. A blush crept up her chest and neck thinking about all the times she had heard that moan, caused that moan. She looked into the blonde's eyes and she could tell Arizona knew exactly what she was thinking. When she was met with a cocky smirk she raised her eyebrow the way she knew Arizona loved. The smirk was instantly gone and a blush creeped over the blonde's pale skin. Her eyes darkened and she bit her bottom lip. The two seemed to forget they were alone because they both jumped when Tim cleared his throat.
"So yeah. Arizona, you should be able to um head home today. Everything looks good and the chart says you were up and walking a bit last night. Did that feel okay?" Callie asked as she tried to calm her heart rate.
"Felt fantastic, Dr. Torres." Arizona responded in a husky voice. Callie's eyes shot up and locked with blue ones.
"A-alright then. Well I am v-very happy with how things went. Tim I will be back for evening rounds. Arizona, I had Dr. Sloan sign your discharge papers when I told him I would handle rounding on you. So here you go. You can head out in about an hour or so. Just have to finish the fluids in that bag" Callie walked up and handed the blonde her papers and she noticed how Arizona made sure their hands touched. The same electricity was there, just like it was from the first time Arizona touched her.
"Thank you, Dr. Torres." Arizona looked up at Callie with a genuine smile. "Oh and thank you for the milk shake…and reminding me that I am a monster after surgery." She laughed.
"Anytime. Usually, the milkshake took the edge off. Just try to be nice." Callie headed towards the door.
"Thank you, Callie." Daniel called out.
"Anytime." She smiled as she heard Tim snicker at his sister about the interaction. She needed to go somewhere to cool down.

"Wow." Was all Barbara Robbins could say as Callie left the room.
"Wow is right. Jeeze Zo. I would say get a room, but you used ours." Tim laughed.
"Oh stop it. She was being nice." Arizona took her milkshake and sunk down into her bed.
"Yeah…I haven't had anyone be that nice to me in 5 years." Tim snorted.
"Timothy Daniel!" Barbara chastised.
"5 years?!" Arizona looked over at her brother.
"What the hell do you think I was doing? I told you everything. Wasn't many ladies down there that weren't married." Tim sulked.
"Okay. Enough you two." Daniel Robbins stepped in. He was getting uncomfortable with the conversation.
"So you all are bailing on me now that Arizona is breaking out of here?" Tim asked, secretly hoping someone would stay with him.
"No, son. Your Mother is going to take Arizona to the hotel. I am going to stay with you." Daniel smiled at his son.
"Why don't I stay with Tim? You and Mom were talking about looking at places. You should call the realtor back." Arizona smiled thinking about the fact all of her family was going to be in the same city.
"Wait. You guys are buying a house here?" Tim was pleasantly surprised as well.
"If you think for one second we are going to be far from you two, you are sorely mistaken. I thought you were gone for 5 years. You and Arizona will be working at the same hospital. It is a no brainer that we move to Seattle." Barbara had been wanting to move out this way when Arizona settled in Seattle, but Daniel wasn't for it. But now that they had both their children, together, there was no argument.
"Wow. That is great. I guess I have to figure something out too." Tim hadn't really realized all the things he had to do. For the longest time he just went where he was told.
"I was thinking you and I could get a place together. Close to the hospital?" Arizona was hopeful her brother would agree.
"Oh wow. Yeah. That would be great!" Tim smiled. The idea of living with his sister was something that didn't even cross his mind.
"Great. I called around a few places yesterday. There is an opening in the building I use to live in across the street. I am not sure if that is the right move…" Arizona wasn't sure living in the same building as Callie was a good idea.
"Across from the hospital? Dude. Yes!" Tim was pumped.
Arizona smiled at her brother. She was looking forward to living together, just the two of them. They had a lot of time to make up for.

When Callie finished scrubbing out of her shoulder replacement she looked at the OR board. Realizing she didn't have any other surgeries scheduled, she headed to daycare to visit with Sofia. She felt like she hadn't had much time with her since Tim arrived and required so much planning and attention.
"Mami. Let's go!" Sofia ran and grabbed a paper and came back to her mother.
"Go where?" Callie asked.
"Dr. Punzle…." Sofia looked at her mother like she was nuts.
"Oh. Sof. She isn't feeling good today." Callie didn't really want to poke the bear anymore. Arizona's post-surgery mood swings were something else.
"You pomised." Sofia started to cry.
Now Callie knew when she had to put her foot down with her daughter. She was for sure the stricter parent. But she NEVER broke promises. Thinking back to yesterday, she realized she did indeed promise Sofia they would go. So, she signed Sofia out for lunch and headed up to the ortho floor. She was secretly hoping Arizona had already left. When they knocked on the door she heard the voice of the blonde telling them to come in.
When they walked in Arizona was in her street clothes with her leg elevated. The room was empty, which had Callie confused.
"Dr. Punzle!" Sofia ran over to Arizona and grabbed her hand. Arizona smiled at the little girl. "Hi Sofia! How is you head?" The little girl carefully climbed up into Arizona's lap like she had known her forever.
"All better. Mami kiss." Yeah. Mommy kisses do make things better. My Mommy use to kiss my boo boos to." Sofia looked at Arizona and noticed the bandage on her leg. "Your leg. Boo boo?" She asked carefully inspecting the bandage. "Yeah. I have a boo boo. But I am okay." Sofia climbed off of Arizona gently and walked up to her leg. Callie was about to step in but Sofia gently laid a kiss on the bandage. "Betta." Sofia said seemingly satisfied. "Wow! Thank you. I feel all better now." Arizona laughed. She heard Callie laugh from the other side of the room.
"Hey." Arizona smiled.
"Hey. Where is everyone?" Callie asked.
"Tim went down to x-ray and Mom and Dad went to meet with a realtor." Arizona shifted so she took a bit of pressure off her leg. Sofia being on her lap was added weight that she didn't anticipate.
"Here, let me take her." Callie approached them ready to grab Sofia.
"No, Mami. Me stay." She snuggled deeper into Arizona. Callie just raised her eyebrows at Arizona silently asking if she was okay. Arizona nodded that she was.
"Tim should be back soon if you came to check on him." Arizona felt oddly at ease with the two in the room with her.
"Actually, Sofia wanted to visit you. She made you a picture." Callie handed Arizona the drawing that Sofia had made for her.
"This is for me? Wow! Is that me?" She pointed to the blonde hair.
"Yes!" Sofia clapped that the woman recognized herself. "And is that you?" "Yes! That me and you." Sofia was completely entranced by the blonde.
"Wow. I think this might be the most beautiful picture I have ever seen. Did you write your name?"
"No. Mami." Sofia pointed to her mother.
"I thought I recognized the handwriting." Arizona winked at Callie. Her heart started beating harder when the full beautiful smile that belonged to the brunette was directed back at her.
Sofia got off of Arizona's lap and started looking around the room. She then noticed what was playing on the TV. "Jasmine! Mami, Jasmine!" Callie looked up and saw that Arizona was indeed watching Aladdin. Laughing out loud, Callie just shook her head. "Yeah, Sof. Arizona likes princesses too." It was at that point that Sofia's brain seemed to process that the woman she had grown so fond of had a name that wasn't Rapunzel. "Ar-arz" Sofia fumbled over the name. "You can call me Zo. Or, Dr. Punzle." Arizona winked at Sofia. "We watch Jasmine Mami? Peazzz?" Sofia stuck out her bottom lip. Callie rolled her eyes but Arizona started cracking up. "
"What's so funny?" Callie asked.
"She has your pout. Now you know why I told you I couldn't say no to you." Arizona wiped the tears that were streaming down her face from laughter.
"5 minutes, Sof." Callie huffed. Sofia climbed back up into Arizona's lap and laid her head against the blonde's chest. Arizona began to absentmindedly run her fingers through the little Latina's hair and watch the movie with her.
Callie took in the scene before her. This is what she had always wanted. A family with the woman sitting right there. Seeing her with Sofia made her heart melt. She pulled out her phone and snuck a photo of the moment. Callie watched as Sofia's eyelids fluttered. She looked at the clock and realized it was about time for Sofia's nap. Not wanting to break up the moment and cause a fussy Sofia, she decided to wait until the little girl fell asleep to bring her back to daycare.
Just as "A whole new world" finished, Sofia succumb to sleep and gripped the blonde's shirt for dear life.
"Sorry about that. She really wanted to come see you." Callie whispered.
Arizona looked down and smiled at the sleeping girl in her arms. "No worries. I don't blame her. I am awesome." Arizona joked. Callie rolled her eyes and the room fell silent. Not knowing when she was going to get Arizona alone again, Callie spoke up.
"Can we talk?" She whispered.
"We are talking, Calliope." Arizona smirked. She saw Callie's face fall a bit and added "but yeah, what do you want to talk about?"
"What you said in post-op." Callie moved closer to Arizona so they didn't have to whisper across the room.
"What are you talking about?" Arizona slightly panicked. She had a dream she spoke to Callie.
"You and I had a conversation after your surgery…." Callie knew she should have just left the room.
"So that wasn't a dream…." Arizona blushed a bit.
"No…but if you want to forget it, we can." Callie really didn't want that to happen.
"No, we can talk about it. I mean, it was all true so." Arizona started to play with Sofia's hair again noticing it brought her a sense of calmness.
"Ok. So, I want to apologize about the Mark situation. I thought back and you were right. I really did pacify him. I think the reason was because it was easier. I could smooth things over with you a lot easier than Mark. That isn't fair. It wasn't fair to you. For that, I apologize." Callie released a big breath. She didn't realize how good it felt to actually talk.
"I appreciate the apology. I understand he is your best friend. It just hurt sometimes. I apologize that I didn't speak up and expressly say it." Arizona felt like her feelings had finally been validated.
"Well, I should have inferred. You made comments. I would be mad too." Callie smiled.
"I know I have apologized a lot and I know we can't undo it. But….I am sorry for leaving you in the airport. That wasn't the right way to handle things. I should have brought it up to you when I started noticing it. Leaving you was probably the worst way to handle things. I can't imagine how it felt coming back here after that. I am truly sorry, Calliope." Arizona's eyes were shining with tears threatening to flow.
"It was a crappy break up." Callie laughed. "But you were right. I didn't want to go. I should have told you that. You are also right that if I went, I wouldn't have her. She is the best thing that has ever happened to me, Arizona." Callie reached out and stroked Sofia's cheek.
"She is pretty great, Cal. You and Mark did good." Arizona smiled a sincere smile.
"It would hurt me too. If the roles were reversed. If it makes you feel better, he is a great Dad to her."
"Actually, it does. But that doesn't surprise me. He is a good guy deep down." Arizona laughed.
"He really is. But that doesn't change the things I apologized for." Callie put her hand on Arizona's.
"Thank you." Arizona grabbed Callie's hand and squeezed.
"Would um. Would you maybe want to have lunch sometime?" Callie felt nervous all of a sudden.
"Yeah. I think that would be nice. It was really good talking to you. I missed you."
"I missed you too. I do want to hear about Africa…." Callie hadn't known she was going to say that.
"And I want to know about the artificial cartilage. What I read was amazing. You're amazing." Arizona smiled brightly at Callie. They both stared at each other and felt a wave of comfort wash over them. They were broken from their thoughts by the sound of the door opening.
"Hey!" Tim yelled.
"Shhhh!" Arizona chastised cradling the little girl in her arms.
Tim took in his surroundings and was shocked to see Arizona cradling Sofia and Callie sitting close to the two of them.
"Well, that took a turn quickly." He joked.
"Shut up, Timmy." Arizona looked over at him.
"Sof and I should head back down to daycare." Callie didn't want to impose.
"Do you have any more surgeries today?" Arizona asked, hoping Callie would stay a bit longer.
"No. Slow day today. I am actually off in about 30 minutes." She looked at her watch.
"Well, if she is anything like you we probably shouldn't move her." Arizona laughed. Callie just rolled her eyes at the blonde's comment.
"You know Arizona…if you wanted to ask Callie to stay, you should just ask." Tim piped in from his bed.
"Timothy Daniel." Arizona said to her brother. Shooting daggers at him with her eyes. Callie laughed at the sibling's banter. "You know…he's not wrong." Callie said teasing Arizona.
"Great. You two together, against me." Arizona groaned.
"Calliope, I would like you to stay. Please." Arizona smiled at her.
"Yes, Calliope. Please stay." Tim smiled.
"Don't call her that or she will break your other hand." Arizona warned.
"She is not wrong…." Callie laughed.
"Why can you call her that then?" Tim pouted.
"Because I am awesome."
"Seriously….?" Tim looked at Callie.
"Yup." Callie winked at Arizona. They all settled in and started chatting. It was the first time in a long time all of them felt like they were at home.
A/N: Fun fact, my sister is life the Arizona I described post anesthesia. Banana milkshake and all.
