Callie, I have an ultrasound today at 4 if you can make it,"Arizona said, putting the milk back in the fridge.
"Ok, wait you want me to come," Callie asked?
"Yeah," Arizona said.
"Normally Teddy comes with you," Callie said.
"I know but youre also the mom and, I just want you to come," Arizona explained.
"Ok, thanks," Callie said, smiling.
For the past few ultrasounds Arizona asked Teddy to do it with her. Callie understood Teddy is Arizonas best friends, Callie was the mom too, but Arizona wasn't comfortable with her yet and Callie didn't want to push. But she definitely happy when she asked her to attend the ultrasound.
"Hello, how have you been," Dr. Frenson asked, prepping the gel.
"I'm good, no more morning sickness so that's a plus but, major back pain,"Arizona said laying on the table.
"Well that's good, this gel maybe a bit warm," Dr. Frenson told her before she applied it.
"We got gel warmers," Arizona told Callie.
"Well you have two healthy babies in their," Dr. Frenson said looking at the monitor.
"Babies," Callie asked looking at Arizona?
"Yep, babies," Dr. Frenson said turning the monitor for Callie to see.
Callie was piss, no doubt, how do you kept twins from the other parents. But in this moment none of the angry could even match the level of pure bliss she felt.
"Babies," Arizona said looking back at Callie.
"They have strong hearts too," Dr. Frenson commented.
"They're strong," Callie teared up.
"Would you like to know the gender," Dr. Frenson asked?
"Yes" "No" Callie and Arizona said at the same time.
"We'll wait," Arizona said, looking at Callie.
"Well alright then make sure you're taking your vitamins and eating healthy," The doctor said handing the women a towel to wipe of the gel.
"You know I am," Arizona said wiping off the gel.
Callie followed Arizona back to her office. Not wanting to make a scenes, she waited till the door shut to ask her question.
"How long have you known," Callie asked?
"How long have I known what," Arizona asked back, sitting in her office chair?
"Twins, and you didn't think to tell me," Callie said pacing around the room.
"Well, I didn't know how," Arizona said.
"These are my babies too," Callie said.
"Well I am a twin so I expected it and I thought you would've figured it out I'm twice as big as I used to be," Arizona said.
"I don't care I'm the other mother I should know things like this, let me in," Callie yelled.
"I'm scared," Arizona cried.
"Why," Callie asked?
"I don't want to suffocate you again. I'm scared you'll hate me again won't even want to be my friend. And I need you in this babies life. I need you, you to coparent with me,"Arizona admits tears running down her face.
"I didn't mean that you suffocated me . I meant our problems. We never talked, we never spoke about them. And they just festered in the air. It was like living with a ticking time bomb. And it went both ways. I never expressed my feelings either. And we had a lot of stuff. And it was getting to heavy mentally. I couldn't continue to carry all of my baggage and yours. When I said I felt suffocated I never meant you . You've never suffocated me, actually you're more like a breath of fresh air trust me," Callie tried to explain.
"But you can't keep stuff like this from me," Callie added.
"How am I supposed to tell you when I'm scarred you'll run at any moment," Arizona said.
"Just because you did it does mean I would," Callie commented.
"See their it is," Arizona said.
"I'm sorry but we need to sort out our problems. I think it would be beneficial if we went to therapy. We don't have to go together. And we need to learn how to communicate. And I, personally, need to stop holding grudges," Callie mumbled the last part.
"Yeah I guess that would help. We kinda failed therapy the last time," Arizona said.
Two weeks later Arizona found herself in the office of Dr. Desmond. The women had a 5 star review on Yelp so she thought she would give this a try.
"Hello Arizona," The women said, with a low warmer voice.
"Hello," Arizona answer, with a quick smile.
"So, I know you wrote down why you scheduled an appointment but I'd like to hear from you why you did," Dr. Desmond asked?
"Do you want the long version or the simplified version," Arizona asked?
"The simplified version will do," The doctor replied.
"So I came her right after my brother went back to the army. I wasn't looking for love just an escape from my reality. But I kissed an orthopedic surgeon in a dirty bar bathroom. And we went on several date . But, about a year into dating I got word that I received a grant. Not just any grant the Carter-Madison Grant. When I applied I didn't expect that's id fall in love with some. But I did so Callie she asked to come with. Even thought she didn't want to and she was miserable. And so I left without her. But I missed her so, a few weeks later I come back. Only to find out that she slept with her best friend and got pregnant. I never wanted kids but knowing that the love of my life was pregnant made me so happy. Because, I knew anything that she made would be great. So anyway fast forward be get into a crash everyone is ok eventually. Then we get married yaydayada. All of our real problems start at the plane crash. I asked her to promised to not cut off my leg. She agreed, even though in the back of my mind I knew it would have to happen. And she couldn't do ot so she had someone else do it. But I didn't know that so I blamed her, for years I blamed her. After the crash I wasn't myself . I was a shell, all the Arizona got scooped out. And this women came along right after I start feeling like myself again. She flirted with me. She made me feel sexy, something I hadn't felt in years. She made me feel wanted, like I wasn't just the crippled doctor. But the fun sexy doctor I used to be. I never meant to hurt Callie but in the process of finding myself again I did. And after that we were never the same. We eventually split but before that we decide to try for a child again. And it worked now I'm pregnant," Arizona ended, her story.
"That was the short version," Dr. Desmond asked?
"I didn't even get into the shooting. Danger follows me where ever I go,"Arizona said.
"I see that," Dr. Desmond said trying to lighten the mood.
"Yeah," Arizona said.
"Have you every told Callie ," Dr. Desmond said.
"She was their for most of it," Arizona said.
"I mean the last part on how the women made you feel," She asked?
"No," Arizona said confused.
"I think you should I think it would be good," Dr. Desmond told her.
"Maybe, I don't know communication was our downfall," Arizona said.
"Well communicate, tell her how you feel. You two have to coparent if you can't tell her how you feel. How will you be able ten years down the road, when she wants your kid to get their ears pierced and you don't," Dr. Desmond asked?
"You're right. You know you're pretty good at this," Arizona said.
"I should it my job. But I seems to me our session is over,"Dr. Desmond said, looking at the clock above her door.
"Well it was a pleasure meeting you," Arizona said standing up.
"You got up quick for a pregnant women," Dr. Desmond commented.
"I'm a doctor I got to move quickly," Arizona said, before leaving the office.
The session was quick. But it was meant to be short,
It was supposed be just a get to know you type of thing. But she told the women her whole love story. She felt like she was doing the walk of shame leaving the office. She let the women see her vulnerable and she didn't even know her.
They sat on the couch after long day of work. Some soap-opera playing in the background. The words of Dr. Desmond played in her mind. Arizona had her foot over Callie's lap. She doesn't know how but the women convinced her to give a foot massage. Something about her giving her one for all the foot rub she gave her when she was pregnant.
"I went to therapy today," Arizona said pausing the show.
"Well that's good, my sessions is tomorrow with a Dr. Humes," Callie said, still rubbing Arizonas foot.
"Well we talk about some stuff and she said that I should tell you something," Arizona said.
"Ok, go for it," Callie said, putting the cap back on the lotion bottle.
"Well when I cheated on you it wasn't because I didn't love you. I've loved since I meet you. It was because Lauren made me feel wanted. From the second she saw me she flirted. Even when I told her I had one leg she still flirted, said she knew because she internet stalked me. Point is she made me feel like the old me, like the me before you, the me before the plane crash. She made me feel like Arizona again. She made me feel like the girl who did crazy things, like kiss girls in dirty bar bathrooms. I love you but, you made me feel different. You looked at me like I was fragile and broken. I know I wasn't myself, I was a monster. I think about the way I was back then and I don't even see myself. I was just a shell of my former self. But when Lauren flirted with me she made me feel sexy. Like I was the hot girl in college again, with girls filing in and out my dorm every night. The girl with a book long list of one night stands. I was basically the girl version of Mark back then. But point is she just made me feel like i wasn't the ugly crippled women," Arizona said, ending her speech.
"I'm sorry I made you feel like that. I'm glad you found yourself. I just wish you did it differently," Callie said, putting a sock on Arizonas foot.
"Me too," Arizona told her.
"Thanks for tell me that," Callie commented.
"My therapist said it would be good for us," Arizona said.
"Well it gave me better insight on why it happened," Callie said, not sure what to say.
"My therapist also said that I need to communicate better. So from now on when every you do something I don't like or you piss me of or anything, I'll let you know," Arizona said.
"Because if we want to successfully coparent, we have to communicate," Arizona said.
"I think we successfully co parent, Sofia isn't a mess," Callie said.
"We were married for half her life, she's still wish on a lucky star that we will get back together. She thinks that why I'm living here," Arizona said.
"Well did you tell her,"Callie asked?
"Yeah and It crushed her heart," Arizona said.
"Aww, I bet that sucked," Callie said getting up off the couch, as it was getting late.
"It did, I cried afterwards," Arizona admitted, grabbing her crutches.
"You calling it a night," Callie asked?
"Yep," Arizona said walking to the guest room.
"Alright I'll be right behind you," Callie called out.
Arizona had went through her whole night routine. And she was just about ready to go to sleep when she felt a kick. Callie told her she wanted to be apart of this. But she didn't know how much. She didn't know if she should wake the women up are she should let her sleep she could always show her tomorrow. With out think she got up and walked into to Callie's room. Mindlessly standing over her bed, it was way to late to back out now.
"Arizona," Callie said waking up.
"Callie," Arizona said back awkwardly.
"Why are you standing over my bed," Callie asked turning on the lamp on the her nightstand.
"One of the babies kicked," Arizona said, not know how Callie would respond to her waking her up for this.
"Really," Callie said sitting up in the bed.
"Yeah," Arizona said smiling rubbing under her stomach.
"Can I feel," Callie asked?
Arizona nodded yes pulling up her shirt.
"Come on babies kick," Callie said.
"I think they're ignoring you,"Arizona joked.
"You sure you just didn't have gas," Callie asked?
"I wasn't gas, I know the difference," Arizona said.
"Well I give up," Callie said, taking her hands off of Arizonas stomach.
"Move over," Arizona said, waving her hands for to move.
"What, why," Callie asked?
"Just do it," Arizona said, laying her cane against the wall.
"Okay," Callie said scutching over.
"Put your hand on my belly now," Arizona said, laying on her side.
"Why," Callie asked?
"You're very inquisitive today," Arizona said grabbing Callie's arm and placing it on her stomach.
"I think one of them doesn't like it when I lay on my side, because I haven't felt a kick since I got up so I thought to lay down again," Arizona explained, as she felt the bay begin to kick.
"I felt it," Callie said.
"I was right," Arizona said, tears falling off onto Callie's pillow.
"I feel it,"'Callie cried.
"Yeah," Arizona cried flipping over to face Callie.
"Yeah," Callie said crying.
"Arizona,"Callie said, as Arizona reached out to wipe Callie's tears.
"Yeah," Arizona answered.
"Thanks for waking me up and including me in moments like this," Callie said.
"You're welcome," Arizona said flipping back over.
There was a long pause before Callie spoke.
"Have you thought of names," Callie asked, hand still on stomach?
No answer so she decided to peak over the blondes shoulder, much to her delight the blonde was sound asleep. She didn't have the heart to wake her and tell her to leave so she decided to deal with the consequences in the morning.
