Chapter 15

"And how do you suggest we do that," Captain Gordon enquired?

"Let me scan the phone see if I can obtain its IP address," Terri answered.

"What good will that do," Gordon retaliated.

"I can then log into the phone find the program that would execute the FIRE command and any subcommands that will cause it to execute then hopefully disable them," she replied pulling out her tablet from her bag.

"Where should we be while you're doing that?"

"Biloxi should be far enough away."

"Your saying…

"I'm say you probably can't get far enough away fast enough."

"Guess we'll just stay here then."

With that said everyone stood back letting Terri do her thing, she is the resident computer expert here. Forty-five nervous minutes later she said, "okay, that should do it." She then extracted the connection to the speaker. You could then hear the collective sighs from the six women and five bomb squad members as they realized they were not blown to smithereens.

"So, what now," Captain Gordon asked now that she had her voice back.

"We get this device to Texas and the super collider there," Rick announced.

"Let me call them, make sure it is available," Vittoria said stepping away from the group to make her call.

"Jordan I'd like for you to go with her," Rick said; "have a team met you at Love Field."

"Sure thing, Rick," she replied, "I'll call and get the 650 fueled and ready."

As Jordan went to get Vittoria and the device Rick turned to Captain Gordon thanked her for her teams response and help in this matter.

"What do you want us to do, Rick," Kate asked.

"We're going back to the hotel; I'll explain on the way. Let's go."

"You need a lift," Captain Gordon enquired, "seeing as your ride just left."

"I guess so," Rick answered as he watched the SUV racing away with lights flashing.

The Hilton-Mclean Hotel

"Okay Rick we're here now what do you need us to do," Emily stated, "you said on the way here beside Grandma Culper there is at least one other player we need to find."

"Correct and since this all started in Europe and in particular the UK at CERN we need to start looking there from the top down. Terri, you and Emily get started on that. Ilsa, you contact I-FOR (Implementation Force) see if they have anything on the Culper Ring then get a list of the women raped and abused during the war. Kate, start checking with the National Archives and the NY Public Library for anyone doing a search for the Ring as well."

"What are you thinking, Rick," Kate asked in return.

"I'm thinking Grandma Culper is an American citizen or was at the very least educated here. You have to dig pretty deep into American Revolutionary War history to find anything remotely about General Washington's spies."

"On it Babe," she said softly so only he could hear it. He gave her one of his knowing smiles in return.

Rick glanced at his watch saw it was almost ten o'clock, covered his mouth as he let out a yawn before announcing, "it's late ladies what do say we call it a night, get a fresh start in the morning.?

"Hold on I think I got something," Ilsa cried out.

"What is it," Emily responded.

"Patricia McKenna. She was one of the first to come forward with accusations the VRS (Army of Republika Srpska) used rape as a 'weapon of war'. She got the ICTY (International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia) to charge General Drago Knaraco, Colonels Radamir Kovac and Milo Krnojelac of these same crimes, all were found guilty Knaraco getting 30 years in prison, Kovac twenty years, Krnojelac eighteen years. All were killed within a year of their imprisonment"

"Listen to this," Emily said. "June 1996 Dragan Zelenovic was convicted of seven counts of rape and torture by the ICTY under the 'crimes against humanity' law and seven counts of rape and torture under the 'customs and laws of war. Lead accuser and witness Patricia McKenna.

"That's not all," Kate declared, "I just found this. 1997, a group of Bosniak and Croat women and even a few men led by Ms. McKenna sued Radavon Karadzic in an American court for 'genocidal rape'. He was found liable for damages and the plaintiffs were awarded compensation of 745 million dollars."

"Just got this from I-FOR," Ilsa stated. "They have known about the organization known as 'The Culper Ring' since 2004 but all attempts to infiltrate it have come up empty. I'm sending them her name see what they can dig up."

"You all are going to love this," Terri added. "Ms. McKenna obtained U.S. Citizenship in 1998, attended Colombia University graduated in 2003 with a degree in American History focusing on the Revolutionary War and guess what she wrote her thesis on…"

"The Culper Ring," everyone responded in one voice.

"Good work ladies. Terri, have you come up with anything on CERN personnel?" Rick then enquired following his complement.

"Only that Director Kohler's wife and daughter died in a car explosion in 1994, everybody else I have checked has come up clean," she answered.

"Let's dig a little deeper into Kohler and especially that car explosion tomorrow. For now let's go get some sleep."

0400 Hours, Suite 801, Hilton-McLean Hotel

Rick woke startled. Something was wrong and that something was a missing Kate. He took a quick scan of the room, not here, there wasn't a light coming from the bathroom so he doubted she was in there but crawled out the bed going to check it anyway. Nope not there. He went out into the living room saw a light on at the desk. Going over to it he saw a piece of hotel stationary lying there with writing so he picked it up. Babe, couldn't sleep down in the conference room, Kate. He did a soft chuckle; this was so like her needed to get the answers and he was willing to bet she wasn't alone. Slipping on a pair of sweatpants, a long sleeved t-shirt and his flip-flops he exited the suite.

Entering the conference room he saw that his earlier observation was correct, she wasn't alone.

AN: I-FOR was originally a NATO-led multinational peace enforcement force in Bosnia and Herzegovina under a one year mandate specified in the Dayton Accords code named Operation Joint Endeavor. I liked the idea of it but changed its mission into one similar to Interpol, a criminal and terrorist investigated organization.
