"Look, you just need to some more rest. Sometimes, injuries to the head cause loss of memory, called post-traumatic amnesia. But for you, it seems to be the opposite. You are probably just seeing…things." Lauren had the medical opinion on Bo's claim. "Have you ever heard of confabulation? It's a memory disorder in which the patient produces false memories, or made-up stories to fill in any gaps in memory." The physician in Lauren concluded. She was certain that was the simple and only rational explanation to this nonsense.
"We've already performed a CT scan the day you were admitted here, but I'll send you for MRI tests if your memory condition doesn't improve. However, if you have confabulation, we might have to address it with psychotherapy or cognitive rehabilitation. But don't panic yet, it can also resolve on its own with time." The doctor reassured.
"No, no Lauren, you don't get it! I saw it…I saw the shoes…or parts of the shoes…" Suddenly, Bo wasn't so sure anymore of what she had seen or thought she'd seen. "I…I saw it…"
"Bo, these things happen, not often, but they happen." Lauren walked to Bo's bedside, "Don't worry too much, we are gonna take good care of you here. We'll get you the treatments you need for your condition and you'll get back to your normal state faster than you think".
Bo was about to go on a lengthy quibble about her said condition but restrained herself when Kenzi walked in.
"Oh, hey Lauren! I'm sure you just made Bo a very happy patient by your special presence" the young woman teased as she winked at Bo. She was quite proud of herself for saying that out loud and secretly congratulated herself for making both of them blush – she thought it was funny to see. She settled in the armchair and dropped a grocery bag full of snacks on Bo's bed. "So, what were you guys talkin' about?"
The two other women exchanged a discomfiting look, which Kenzi snatched in spite of being busy focusing on choosing which goodie from the bag she wanted to start with.
"Oh…did you…sort out your relationship…issues?" Kenzi asked hesitantly before taking a huge bite from her Mars chocolate bar.
"Uhmmm, I was just telling Bo…she doesn't need to worry about her visions…or her false memories" the doctor said before she slid her hands in her white coat. She tried to dismiss Kenzi's attempt at getting into personal matters. "This condition will only be temporary. Things will get back to normal, there are no reason to be too concerned."
"You're having visions? You didn't tell me that!" With furrowed brows, Kenzi scolded her friend as she questioned her.
Bo didn't answer but obviously felt guilty for hiding such things from her best friend.
Kenzi decided she would deal with that later. She turned back to Lauren, "Then…can she go home now?"
"Not exactly, as I was telling her, there are some more tests she will need to go through before I clear her out. It's just…just to make sure we are not missing anything important and do our best to prevent any possible complication in the near future." Lauren's gaze went back to Bo and she said, "If all goes well, you can leave in two or three days." She kept her eyes on Bo for a moment longer than she had wanted. As soon as she realized it, she quickly mustered her act together and said, "Well, I'll leave you two now…I…I need to go back to…my other patients."
The doctor looked at both women, nodded to salute them and took her leave.
"Bo! What the hell! Why did you not say anything about your vision?"
"I didn't want you to worry."
"You couldn't honestly have thought it was a smart move, could you? Hiding anything from me? Me?" The younger woman took a deep breath in and finally asked, "What was your vision?"
"I felt…saw someone pushing me…over and…down that cliff…"
Kenzi put her left hand up and toward her friend, her palm wide opened facing Bo to stop her from saying anything further, "OH MY GOD!" she cried out. Then became speechless after those three words for a moment. She finally put her hand down, "Seriously?" she asked when she came back to her senses. "I…I can't believe it! How come you never said anything to me about it?" She abruptly jumped off her chair, "So…someone tried to kill you? Is that what you're saying?"
"Yes…well, I'm not so sure anymore. Lauren is convinced that what I saw…or thought I saw was a false memory because of my head injuries."
"And what exactly did you see…or thought you saw?"
"Well, as I said, I can't be so sure anymore now. But I kind of remember feeling a pressure on my back, as if someone was pushing me, which made me slip to the edge and off. And as I was about to fall, I had this reflex to spin my body around in the hope of catching and holding onto something and…save myself from the fall. Of course that was an unsuccessful attempt. But…when my body slightly turned, that was when I saw a human-like shape…or shadow. And I remember seeing something that looked like…dark…red footwear." The expression on Bo's face showed uncertainty. "That's all I can remember…sort of…"
"So…you felt someone had pushed you in the back. You think you might have seen that someone. And you say he or she was wearing red shoes. Is that right?"
"Yeah, pretty much." Bo looked as confused and perplexed as Kenzi.
"If what you say is true, who would do that to you? And why?" Kenzi wondered out loud, her brows furrowed like never before.
"I…I really don't know Kenz!"
"Someone definitely wanted to harm you, or…kill you Bo!" Kenzi exclaimed loudly. Then, she came up with a hypothesis. "Could it have something to do with what you…what you'd been doing the past few months?"

Lauren had been a little worried. That, she couldn't lie to herself. Her anger toward Bo had turned into pity not long ago, precisely the moment she saw the woman all wounded and swollen in the hospital bed, the day after she had been wheeled into the ER on a stretcher. But now she felt some kind of sympathy for Bo instead and was really hoping she'll be okay in the long term. And, that her pseudomemory will go away soon.
Yes, she had to admit the whole idea of someone purposely pushing Bo off of that cliff had her concerned and troubled, but she had to convince Bo it was a distorted recollection of the incident. Lauren believed so because it wouldn't make sense anyone would want to harm or kill Bo. Of course, unless it was a gratuitous, random act committed by a crazy and perfect stranger.
However, was there any possibility she had been pushed? Had she been at the wrong place, at the wrong time?
Lauren shook off the whole idea. It was a memory issue she concluded. Again.
She grabbed the medical file containing the discharge summaries and proceeded to scan it quickly. Bo had finally got her hospital discharge twenty-four hours ago and Lauren wanted to see her patient before she left and make sure Bo understood the plan laid out for her in order to continue to have a successful recovery at home. Of course, as the days passed, there were barely any sign that suggested the woman fell over a cliff. Bo's physical recovery just never ceased to impress Lauren. However, a plan was still necessary to reduce any chance of re-admittance to the hospital.
But that wasn't the only reason. The truth was that Lauren wanted to see Bo one last time before Bo was released from Lauren's familiar, professional but also personal, environment. Before she went back to the wild and unpredictable world outside. Before Bo returned to her normal life.
Lauren had grown a small attachment to that woman again, needless to say, to her brother's girlfriend. She had hard time admitting it, but she simply couldn't deny it happened.
She shook off her sentiment about the situation again and closed the file.

"I can't find my phone" Bo mumbled as she stuffed the few pieces of clothing in a small travel bad her grandfather had brought her a few days ago, along with some of her personal toiletries and a new phone. Annoyed that she couldn't find some of her things, she turned around and asked "Kenzi, did you see my ph – ",
She was caught by surprise to see him in the room. "Dyson? Why are you here?"
"Well, Rainer was still stuck in his meeting, so he called and begged me to come on his behalf and to take you to your place, knowing that you are leaving the hospital today."
"I…I don't need you to take me home…" She contested. Anybody but you, she thought to herself.
"She's right! She doesn't need you 'cause I'm the one taking her home." Kenzi walked in and glanced hard at the tall man, almost as she had wanted to intimidate him.
"Yes, Kenzi is here and I have everything I need so…there is really no reason for you to stay here for that."
"Look, I don't mean to impose anything, I just want to be able to tell my brother you got home okay. So fine, your friend can drive you home and I'll just follow you with my car, watch you walk through the door of your apartment and go tell Rainer I made sure the whole transit from the hospital to your place went as uneventful as it possibly could."
Bo was tired from the accident and from staying and laying in in bed this room for way too long by her standard. But at this moment, she felt impatient and was slightly annoyed by this man's presence, "Are you always this…delicately unpleasant?"

It was near the middle of the forenoon and the corridors were not so quiet anymore. Lauren entered the elevator and smiled blindly at the two other passengers who had entered just before her. Automatically she reached for the panel before noticing the fifth floor button had already been pushed. She glanced at her watch, thinking and hoping Kenzi hadn't convinced Bo to sneak out of the hospital already. Something she felt the two women would naturally do.
The elevator doors opened when they hit the third floor and she moved to her left to let an older man exit the car. She waited patiently for the doors to close again and stared down at her feet. She remembered she needed to buy a new pair of shoes for work. The ones she was wearing were getting all worn out. Although, she kept reminding herself the same thing almost every week.
It was then that, at the corner of her eyes she saw dark red, or rather maroon boots. Work boots style. A sudden curiosity took over her. She raised her eyes high enough to catch a glimpse of the man standing next to her. Dark hair, scruffy face, and a black ball cap with visor covering his eyes. Small details that drew even more of her attention onto him – beside the maroon work boots.
When the elevator doors finally opened on the fifth floor, she gave a hesitant smile to the mysterious man and invited him to go first. But the man barely acknowledged her presence and stepped out precipitously. Once in the corridor, he turned his gaze to his left, then to his right and, after a second of hesitation, decided to continue that way. He passed by each room looking at the number, written in bold white text on dark blue panel located at eyes level next to each door. Then, at the sixth room on his left, he stopped. He slowly approached the door. It was shut, so he peeked inside the room through the door window.
Lauren had been walking behind him as she was going the same direction. But there he was, in the hallway and peeking into Bo's room. Her pace had slowed when she realized it. She came to a full stop and silently observed him nosing into Bo's room. She wondered for a moment. She was about to call for him and ask if he was looking for somebody or for a room or simply if she could help him in any way. But just at that moment, as if he had felt someone behind him and possibly saw him doing what he had just done, he lowered his head, quickly looked away and started to walk toward the end of the hallway.
Lauren followed him until he pushed the doors to the staircase opened and disappeared. What just happened? she wondered. Who was this man? Why was he peeking into Bo's room? Then, she remembered the boots the stranger was wearing and it made her thought of what Bo had said.
Lauren walked back toward Bo's room. This time, it was her who peeked inside. She saw Bo, who was still busy getting her stuff ready and in a hurry, but she also saw that Kenzi and Dyson were there. The room was crowded. She turned back and looked in direction where the man had disappeared and slowly started to feel troubled. Again.
What if Bo had not made that up? If she had not imagined it?
Could somebody truly had wanted to harm her?
