May 23rd, 2015
Sophia is officially two months old. Nobody knows how it happened. Their eyes blinked and she was a month older.
Heather lifted her face from the pillow and saw the luminous rays peeking through the window shades so she knew it was morning. Her iPhone was resting on top of the nightstand so she disconnected it from the charger and lifted it to glance at the time. 6:46 am the clock read and Heather sat up stretching her arms above her head while being mindful that the love of her life is still sound asleep next to her. She folded back the crisp white sheets of their duvet and matching sheets before putting her iPhone in the side pocket of her pajamas. She walked around the bed to Naya's side where their daughter was lying in her bassinet but Heather was stunned to see Sophia wide awake with red eyes. It appeared as she has been silently weeping as big tears were falling down the side of her cheeks. Heather was convinced her heart split into a million pieces at that very moment.
"Honey, what's wrong, little love? Tell momma about it baby girl so I can help you." Heather said quietly while lifting the infant and holding her so she could bury her face in her neck because it's what brings her the most comfort.
"You're okay my angel. Momma's got you, baby. Did you have a bad dream, love? Or aren't you feeling very well? Heather didn't know which one it was since her child was too young to tell her what was wrong so she felt her head but she didn't seem any warmer than usual. Heather just decided to hold her for a while since it looked like she had just had a scary dream or was startled awake.
Heather decided to get out of the bedroom before she woke up her wife. Heather stepped out into the hallway and went to the nursery to sit in the rocking chair hoping that would lull her daughter back to sleep.
"You're in momma's arms baby girl. Close your eyes and rest honey. Momma won't let you go." Heather whispered soothingly until she started singing Songbird to her daughter.
I love you, I love you, I love you, like never before...
Sophia's pitiful whispers quieted down until they eventually went silent and Heather maneuvered her head slightly to be able to see if she had fallen back asleep which she had.
They are only sitting there for about five minutes with Heather talking to Sophia softly to busy her mind into falling asleep. Heather lifts her head from humming and combing through her daughter's hair when she hears the door creak open softly. Heather immediately smiles seeing her love standing in the doorway. Naya smiles at Heather who returns it right away.
"Hey, baby. What are you two doing in here? I almost had a heart attack when I didn't see the baby until I turned and you weren't there either so then I figured you were with her somewhere. I still didn't like waking up without my girls though..." Naya pouts with her lip out exactly like Sophia had done that one day. That pout was going to be the death of Heather. One look like that from her girls and she would be a puddle on the floor.
"I'm sorry, beautiful. I woke up and walked around to your side of the bed and she was wide awake but her eyes were red and tears were rolling down her eyes but she wasn't crying out loud. It was so sad." Heather said which broke Naya's heart too so she walked over and sat on the ottoman in front of the rocker and placed her palm on her daughter's forehead and then her neck trying to feel around a fever.
"I already checked for a fever and she didn't appear warm to me so I chalked it up to a bad dream or she just got startled by something. Poor thing." Heather pouted now with her lip showing. "Do you maybe want to try nursing her, beautiful? We can see if filling her little tummy will cheer her up." Heather asks her wife who nods and stands up from where she was sitting on the footstool. Heather gets on her feet and allows Naya to take her place in the rocker. Since it was morning and she didn't wear a bra to sleep she was able to just lift her shirt and nurse her daughter. Naya gently grabs the two-month-old from her momma and takes her in her arms and settles her sideways against her chest directing her to latch on. Sophia latches before disconnecting almost immediately and whimpering once again. Both Naya and Heather looked at each other completely heartbroken.
"Maybe she isn't feeling very good. When I got her out of her bassinet she just seemed sad but I didn't sense any fever or anything." Heather frowns as she takes her fingers and runs them through her daughter's hair while kneeling and stroking her legs with her other hand over her sleeper.
"Mami hates to see you so sad, mi amor (my love). What can me and momma do for you sweetheart?" Naya asks Sophia who gives them the lip pout once again.
"Oh honey, don't break momma's heart! I can't see you sad my little love." Heather was nearly crying herself. She had way too much love for this little human to sit and watch her suffer. Naya looked completely broken too. They were both trying to figure out what to do.
"Do you think we should take her in and get her checked? You have to be at work in a couple of hours." Naya asked her wife.
"Whatever you are most comfortable with my love. We can go beforehand or go on my usual ninety-minute break in the afternoon. I'm totally fine with whatever you decide." Heather assured and kissed the top of Sophia's head before kissing Naya on the lips.
"What do you think Soph? Well, maybe let's allow her rest and just get some extra cuddles this morning and if she still not acting like her happy self later we can go see Dr. Laine. Hopefully, she can fit us in." Naya replies while continuing to rock her daughter back and forth. Her tiny little form still whimpering and trembling.
"God she is breaking my heart right now," Heather says as she wipes a tear from her face. Naya looks up and nods solemnly back at her wife.
"Here Mija, go see your momma, she's super sad you're not having a good morning. Momma will give you some snuggles baby girl." Naya says while passing over the infant to her wife who instantly lifts her so she can rest on her shoulder. It takes Sophia all of two seconds before she's rocking her tiny head back and forth before she shuffled over to press against her neck. For whatever reason ever since she was born she had done this with Heather and it seemed to always happen when she needed comforting. Naya's heart could have exploded right then and there. To see that bond and how much Sophia responds to her momma made Naya let out a couple of tears of her own.
"Oh, now you are going to start crying and breaking my heart too. Both of my girls crying, I can't handle that, love. Heather frowns while motioning for Naya to follow her and they head back to the master bedroom where Heather gestures for Naya to get back in bed. Naya looks at her but concedes and gets back under the covers before Heather walks around with Sophia in her arms and slips back into bed while Naya holds the sheets up for her. Sophia shifts slightly but goes right back to sleep with her face against her mother's neck.
"She loves you so damn much. It almost makes my heart hurt with how much it warms my heart to see you with her. It's almost as if my heart can't handle it. You have no idea what it does to me to see Sophia safe in your arms. It's an unexplainable feeling." Naya tearfully says.
"Come here, beautiful." Heather wraps her other arm around her wife and brings her as close as possible to her and Sophia. "I love this little girl with everything I am, just as I love you. My love for you knows no bounds. Every time I see you look at our daughter, or nurse our daughter, every loving gesture you do for her makes me fall in love with you all over again. You two are my heart outside my body. My absolute everything. Never, ever forget that it's you and her above everything else." Heather confessed while Naya nodded wiping the tears that were now flowing from her brown eyes and leaned further into Heather to feel that closeness she desperately needed.
It was just after 9:00 am and the girls had just put Sophia in her car seat and were getting on their shoes. Heather had a call time of 9:45 am but she wanted to get there a little earlier to make sure her girls were okay before she just left them. Sophia didn't seem to have a fever at all she was just very clingy and attached to both of her moms this morning.
"You think she'll be okay, love? Please promise me if she needs me you'll come to get me or call me immediately." Heather said nervously as she caressed her daughter's cheek with the back of her hand. The girls didn't even bother to change her out of her cozy sleeper. If she wasn't feeling well they wanted her to be as comfortable as possible.
"You know I'll always promise you that. If Sophia needs her momma I will come to get you. You seem to help her when she's sad or not feeling good, although aside from gas and a couple of tummy aches from eating too much at once, she hasn't been sick. I'm hoping she isn't this time. I still think we should go to the doctor on your break and make sure it is not something we can't see or feel from a fever. That would reassure me or at least point us in the right direction." Naya says while looking at her wife whos lifting the car seat in the crook of her arm.
"That makes me feel better that you will bring her to me if you think she needs me. Thank you, love. I agree, on my lunch, we will go over to the clinic since it's pretty close anyway. I'd much rather be safe than sorry, and if it is something that we catch it early." Heather nods in agreement as her wife gets up off the bench in the entry after putting her sneakers on. Naya opted for a matching Adidas workout outfit with black leggings with three white stripes down the side and a black tee shirt with Adidas and the logo in white print with a small section of her shirt tucked into her leggings. This was her favorite thing to grab, especially being a new mami. Plus after the morning they had, she wasn't in the mood to dress any fancier.
Heather and Naya are walking towards their trailer, Sophia wanted to be held as soon as the car was put in park and she began whimpering so Naya had grabbed her and was holding her. Sophia was fisting her shirt tightly with her face against her chest as she laid horizontally across Naya as she was being carried. Sophia wasn't hungry so Naya knew that wasn't what she wanted.
"She may not be hungry love, but babies can smell their moms. She smells your milk and knows it's you so she's cuddling for comfort." Heather smiles and assures Naya while wrapping her arm behind her back and kissing the top of her head. "You are such a good mami, Naya. You leave me in awe of you" Heather says making Naya look up and smile shyly but she also wanted to tear up at the same time because she will never get used to those deep sentimental things that Heather always tells her. It makes her feel so loved and appreciated.
"Thank you, baby. You as well. You are the best momma she could have. You and Sophia are everything together." Naya says with a smile and she holds her baby girl tight to her chest. As they get closer to the trailers they see their friends on the benches with their various coffee cups and pastries.
"Hey!" Lea said as she looked at the girls who were slowly approaching. The others waved or turned around welcoming the trio.
"Hey ladies! Are you guys okay? No offense but you look a little beat. Is everything alright?" Chris asked the girls genuinely seeming concerned as he kept glancing down at the infant in Naya's arms.
"Well, this little one may not be feeling well. Heather found her awake this morning in the bassinet with red eyes and tears down her face but she didn't make a sound. At first, we thought she had a bad dream but she's particularly clingy to us this morning and won't eat. If she's not doing better by Heather's lunch were taking her in." Naya explained earning sighs and frowns from the crew at the table.
Sophia starts whimpering almost like she's hurting and it makes everyone frown and Naya even has a couple of tears in her eyes.
"This is heartbreaking. Will she go to any of us?" Diana asked while holding out her hands. Naya is already hesitating and Heather can tell she doesn't want to let her go but Naya reluctantly hands the baby over gently and the second she doesn't smell one of her mother's she panics and wails in a high-pitch shriek that makes Naya take her right back.
"Yeah, that's what it's been like when we put her down." Naya hastily says as the mom in her just wants to protect her child from feeling any pain.
Naya was holding her tight but her wails continued. Naya was in tears as she felt so helpless. Everyone looks at her with sympathy at the heartache they both must be feeling.
"Here my love, let me try." Heather holds her hands out after wiping a tear and Naya nods defeatedly and kisses her daughter's head and holds her out for her momma. "Come here my little love, what's going on beautiful? Tell momma what to do and I'll do it for you." Heather mumbles as she holds her daughter over her shoulder and asks Naya for the blanket in her diaper bag which Naya immediately hands over to her. Heather wraps it around their daughter and snuggles her close, Sophia instinctively finding the crook of her neck and burying her face in her mother to feel the closeness that she so desperately needs right now. Sophia's hysterical cries stop and she's only barely whimpering as it appears she may be trying to fall asleep. Naya looks on completely in love and completely shattered at the same time. Seeing Heather comfort their daughter just intensifies the love she has for her immensely.
"Momma's right here beautiful. Go to sleep my gorgeous girl. I've got you. Mami will be with you the whole time and if you need me she knows exactly where I am. Rest your eyes, my pretty girl. Shhhh..." Heather whispers to her daughter until she feels her breathing even out and knows she's asleep. "Good girl, honey. Mommies will help you, okay? We will go see the doctor during momma's lunch and see what the bug is that's bothering you and see if Dr. Laine can make it fly away so it is not hurting you anymore." Heather continues and most of the friends have a hand to their heart and are in tears or on the verge of melting down. Naya was a mess at this point, between seeing her daughter sad and possibly hurting to watching Heather take care of and reassure their tiny baby. She couldn't ask for anything more in a wife than everything she gets from Heather.
"Come here, my love." Heather holds out an arm for Naya to walk into and rests her head on Heather's chest as she holds Sophia in the other arm. "I know honey. I know. This is awful but we as her mothers will make sure she is ok. You think I would let anything happen to either of my girls?" Heather asks tilting Naya's head up who tearfully shakes her head. "Good. Should I get you two settled and I'll hurry up and get my stuff done so we can leave earlier for the doctor. I'm hoping she will get a little rest." Heather said while kissing her daughter's head softly before kissing Naya.
"Girls, let us know if you need anything please," Amber says as she gets up off the table softly places a kiss on Sophia's head. She gives both the girls a look that makes them promise to get her if they need her and both girls nod appreciatively. Heather is especially grateful that she has her core group of friends she can count on. It means everything to her to have that peace of mind.
"Thank you, Amber. The fact that I know you all are there for us means everything. We love you guys" Heather says lovingly making the group blow kisses, cover their hearts, and make other gestures letting the girls know they're not alone.
The girls are in their trailer getting settled. Naya took a little cooler filled with bags of breastmilk to reload the fridge. They always made sure to keep a handful of bags available just in case. They haven't introduced a bottle since Sophia is exclusively breastfeeding, but as new mothers, they have to have a backup plan for their backup plan.
Sophia is currently sound asleep on Heather's shoulder and she's already sad about having to let her go just praying that she won't get sad when momma lets her go. That would destroy Heather.
"Where would you like me to put her, my love?" Heather asks her wife as she continues to hold her sleeping daughter tightly making Naya smile adoringly.
"Why don't you attempt to lay her on the couch, that's where I'll be and see if she will lay beside me, if not I'll hold her," Naya replies while smiling at her wide who nods as she places a tiny kiss on her daughters head and Naya can tell how much it's breaking Heather to let her go, especially while she wants her moms and isn't feeling good.
Heather scrunches her eyebrows and squeezes her eyes as she ever so gently takes the baby and lays her beside the couch next to Naya. Both girls let out a relieved sigh when she doesn't stir and stay asleep as Heather slowly moves away.
"God it's tearing my heart apart to leave her when she's not feeling good. Please come get me if you or Soph need me. Please." Heather pleads making her wife stand and wrap her arms around her neck.
"I promise. I know how much you comfort her, there's no way I would deny her that if she needs you." Naya promised as she placed a kiss on her wife's cheek.
Heather picks up her bag in the corner looks back at her sleeping daughter once more with a tear running down her cheek. She quickly wipes it away before Naya comes over and hugs her.
"If she needs you we will come to see you, baby. We love you so much." Naya says while giving her a tight hug. After about five minutes and many reassurances including an extra kiss for Sophia, Heather finally managed to leave the trailer.
About thirty minutes later, Sophia must sense that her momma wasn't holding her anymore and startles Naya who's sitting right next to her by letting out a sad loud wail. Naya snaps her head to the side and immediately picks up her baby girl to console her. She can calm her baby down significantly but she's still whimpering and fisting her mami's shirt.
Naya sings and hums to her baby girl in hopes that she will be able to settle. After a good ten minutes of heartbreaking whimpering, she is finally able to get her settled again.
About an hour later she hears a soft knock at the door and as gently as possible tries to call out to see who it is.
"Who is it?" Naya says hoping she didn't wake up her baby.
"Chris and Amber hun," Amber says softly making Naya smile. she didn't realize how much she needed to see some friendly faces.
"You guys know the code. Come in." Naya says as softly as possible. She hears the lock and the door swing open gently and sees the two walk inside with sympathetic smiles making Naya send over the biggest smile she can manage at the moment, which, unfortunately, wasn't a very big one.
"How are you girls doing?" Chris asks quietly while leaning over to catch a glimpse of the sleeping baby in Naya's arms.
"Ugh, it's been rough. She woke about a half-hour after Heather left when she realized her momma wasn't here holding her anymore. I barely got my wife out the door, it shattered her to leave. I made her a promise to bring Sophia to the shed if she needed Heather." Naya said as she leaned her head back completely on the couch until she was looking up at the ceiling. Both Chris and Amber felt horrible for their friend.
About two hours later, Sophia was going in and out of sleep. She would sleep for fifteen minutes at a time before she would sob out and it would take her a good thirty minutes to get settled once again. Chris and Amber helped any way they possibly could but Sophia was super clingy to her mami.
"Would you like us to try hun? Maybe she will just wear herself out enough to where she won't even realize who was holding her anymore, but at least it would give you a little break. I can't imagine your arms are feeling great right now." Amber said encouragingly.
"We can try. Don't be offended if she screams bloody murder though..." Naya says before delicately handing her daughter over to Amber. She seems to be okay until she starts burying her face in Amber's neck realizing it's not Heather and lets out a gut-wrenching sob. Amber gets tears in her eyes immediately, not because she was offended, but because the sound of Sophia sobbing was so unbelievably heartbreaking. She hated seeing her goddaughter in pain or unhappy. She motions for Chris to try and he gently takes his goddaughter from Amber and tries his best to comfort her but she just lets out choking wails.
"Okay, I need Heather," Naya said tearfully and repeatedly. "She needs her momma. Walk over there with me?" Naya pleads and the two immediately nod while Chris still holds onto a crying Sophia while Naya shakes out and stretches her arms which are likely numb and asleep from holding a baby nearly all morning. Amber wraps an arm around Naya as they close the door to the trailer and walk out.
"She will be ok hun. She likely has an ear infection or a stomach bug, which the doctor will make it fly away as Heather said." Amber laughed causing Naya to blush and shake her read remembering what she had told their daughter this morning.
"She loves Sophia so damn much..." Naya breathed out as she thinks about the two loves of her life as she glances over at Chris who's holding a sobbing Sophia. Naya resists the instinctual urge to grab her and hold her right but they're nearly at the tin shed.
"Here hun ill get the door," Amber says as she slowly opens the large metal door to the shed as quietly as possible. The last thing Sophia needs is to be scared to death with a loud booming echo and the slamming of a solid metal door. They step inside and look over to the other side of the shed to see Harry, Zach, and Heather going over the steps with the dancers. The sound of a loud echoing wail fills the room and Chris, Amber, and Naya cringe at how miserable it sounds. Heather's head instantly snaps over to the sad sound and sees her daughter sobbing in her friend's arms. The dancer's all gesture for her to go quickly and Heather instantly bolts across the studio.
"Naya, Soph honey! Are you guys ok?" Heather asks In a deep concerning voice as she realizes she didn't come alone. Naya just shakes her head and falls into Heather's arms. The reality of her child being sad or hurting was taking its toll on her mami's heart. Heather wastes no time in comforting her first love.
"Oh, beautiful, talk to me. What happened?" Heather asks gently and Naya recaps the last three hours or so and how restless and unsettled Sophia has been. Heather looks over at her daughter after placing a sweet and long kiss on her wife's lips. Sophia was sobbing and now coughing from being so upset. Heather can't take that sound anymore so she walks over hastily and holds out her arms to take her daughter from Chris. Sophia sobs until she wiggles her face back and forth until her head turns and finds the crook of Heather's neck, soon inhaling the familiar calming scent of her mother.
"I've got you, baby girl. Momma has you now. I'm right here my beautiful Sophia. Shhhh." Heather says making the other three look on and just realizing how much quieter Sophia was since being in her momma's arms.
"She sure knows her momma" Chris smiles at his blonde friend. All Heather can do is give him a small smile in return and press a kiss to her daughter's head who has fallen asleep.
"Good girl, sweetheart. Lay on momma." Heather says while taking the quilt from Amber and surrounding her daughter with all the security she could so she felt safe. Harry runs over after about three minutes.
"Hey, how's she doing? Poor girl, that sound was making uncle Harry so sad sweet girl!" Harry said as he gently put a hand on her back.
"She's been so upset all morning," Naya said as she wiped a falling tear from her cheek. She was a mixture of exhausted, worried, overwhelmed, and helpless. "I finally just had to get Heather which seemed to help our baby girl." Naya manages a small smile as she looks at her wife and baby girl. Heather glances at her side and holds her other arm out for her wife.
"Come here my love, you're exhausted. Why don't you go back to the RV and take a nap, I'll keep Sophia with me until her appointment which is in a little over an hour. You need a break. Harry is here to help demonstrate the dance moves while I observe. Have Amber and Chris walk you back my love. You deserve a break." Heather assures Naya. Naya looks incredibly nervous and conflicted about leaving her child when she's sick but also is very comforted knowing she couldn't be any safer than she is with Heather.
"I see your wheels turning, my love. Believe me, I know how hard it is but we have some time before her appointment." Heather says making Naya look over confused. Heather looks at her wife while snuggling her daughter and Naya close and kissing both of their heads. "I made her an appointment during my lunch break to guarantee we can get in," Heather explained as she strokes her wife's back while she leans against her. Naya looks up and smiles at her wife entirely exhausted, but completely in love.
"I hate to leave her..." Naya says with a frown
"I know you do, my love, but you need a break and she's okay right now. If that changes we will come back to the trailer and leave right away. To help her, you have to get some adequate rest yourself, beautiful. I've got our little love. She'll be safe, I promise." Heather assured her overly tired wife. Naya hugged her and kissed her cheek.
"I love you so fucking much, Heather. Thank you. Look at our baby girl...she knew it was you the minute you picked her up." Naya said smiling at the tiny baby in Heather's arms. Heather kisses her wife's head over her dark hair before turning and placing a kiss on her daughter's forehead.
"Amber and Chris, please make sure she gets settled okay," Heather asks her two friends who happily nod in response before Heather turns back to her wife and tucks a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Just rest, my love. If you are still asleep in an hour we will walk over and wake you before we need to leave. If you happen to wake up before an hour, you can come back over here. Go lay down, beautiful. I love you so much. Thank you for being so strong for our family this morning." Heather says making Naya melt. Who gets to hear these things from their spouse constantly? God, she just felt so loved and lucky.
Naya places a long kiss on Heather's lips before caressing her daughter's black hair delicately and mouthing an, I love you to her wife before Amber and Chris open the metal door of the shed leading her outside.
Surprisingly, Sophia was doing well in the tin shed. She was still asleep in Heather's arms with her quilt tucked in around her to keep her feeling snug and secure. It had been about thirty-five minutes since Naya had left to take a nap before they took their daughter to the doctor. Harry was going over the movements with the dancers. Everyone was making a big effort to keep their voices down and just focus and dance. Any small sounds didn't seem to bother Sophia since she felt secure again with one of her mothers. Heather was so glad that Naya had agreed to get a little sleep even though she could tell it was killing her to leave their daughter. Naya was so strong and the backbone of their family. Heather doesn't know what she would ever do without her beautiful wife.
"Momma's got you, sweet girl. I love you so much." Heather whispered to her sleeping baby girl. She couldn't believe how much she adored this tiny human. This little person encompasses the love that she and Naya share. This little girl is part of both of them. The thought of this was so much to wrap her head around.
Heather had no idea it had been another twenty minutes because she was in supermom mode while holding her infant daughter and teaching and overviewing the choreography changes for her dancers that she didn't even hear the metal door open and close.
"Baby..." Naya said quietly with a smile as Heather looked over from where she was observing the routine while hugging her daughter with both arms and kissing her head repeatedly. Naya can't help the blush that appears on her face and the smile that breaks out over how insanely adorable this moment was. Heather was doing all the things she needed to do and it appeared as if their daughter was completely unfazed and just happy to be held.
"Hi, my love!" Heather whispered happily while looking at the clock in the corner. "Wow, it's been a little over an hour? How did that even happen?" Heather said completely shocked at how quickly time flew by. Naya smiled and peeked around her shoulder at their baby girl completely content as she was pressed up against her momma's neck.
"Did she sleep this entire time?" Naya asked with a smile causing Heather to nod.
"She's been out this entire time. I think she finally just wore herself out from crying so much. My sweet girl...and you, my love. How are you feeling?" Heather asked making Naya look up and peck her lips.
"I'm tired still but much better than I was before. Thank you for that baby. The only reason I was even able to do that is I knew she would be with you." Naya said with a grateful smile.
"You know I'm always here for both of my beautiful girls. Alright, let's get out of here and get this little one to her appointment. Did you bring her diaper bag and our purses with you by any chance? Otherwise, we can stop by the RV quick since the keys are in my bag." Heather said while moving her hand to cup the baby's head to keep it steady as they walked.
"I did. They're by the door." Naya says while gesturing over the large metal door she entered from.
"Perfect. Alright, little miss, let's make sure you're ok. Mami and momma will both be with you, my love. Honey, I may have you sit in the backseat with her this time so she doesn't get too upset about not having either of us back there with her." Heather says and Naya smiles because she simply has the greatest wife in the world.
"I was thinking the same thing. Sounds good." Naya nods
"Good afternoon, ladies! I hear someone is not feeling very good today..." Dr. Laine said with a sympathetic tone making both of the girls nod in response. Naya was now holding their daughter as they were explaining everything that happened this morning and throughout the day. Dr. Laine was nodding along and making notes as they were speaking.
"We just wish we knew what to do for her..." Naya finished close to tears as Heather rubbed her beck soothingly.
"Having sick kiddos is the worst, my kids are much older but there is nothing more helpless than feeling like you can't do anything. I will check her out but It does sound similar to a lot of cases I've been treating lately of the viral flu. Her symptoms align with many of the other kids her age who have ended up leaving here with that diagnosis. The good thing is if that's what she does have, parents have been letting us know that it's generally a 24-48 hour deal." Dr. Laine says earning hesitant nods from both of the moms. She could tell they were still deeply concerned but she wanted to make sure they know it wasn't serious or life-threatening as long as it was taken care of and they gave the baby the proper medicine.
"Let's check her out and we will confirm if that's the case before I go far in-depth and then we will go over a plan to make her all better again. How does that sound?" Dr. Laine asked the mother who gave her a small nod and smile.
"Just so you know she may scream as she has with anyone aside from Heather or myself who tried to hold her," Naya explained earning an understanding nod from the doctor.
Just as expected the second Naya let her daughter go the tears started up and made both of the girls want to instantly reach back out for her. Dr. Laine was efficient but thorough in her examination which helped the girls feel more at ease that she was checking everything out. After the exam, Dr. Laine hands the baby over to Heather who's already waiting with her quilt draped over her shoulder.
As soon as the doctor hands the baby over to Heather, even she has to smile at how quickly Sophia cuddles into Heather's neck and seemingly calms down instantly. Naya shakes her head because she knows how incredibly whipped they both are over their baby girl and they are both pretty sure she knows that too.
The girls arrived home about forty-five minutes later with a conclusion that she had a touch of the flu and that is particularly why she's been so clingy and attached to both of her mothers. As much as the girls were loving the extra snuggles, they were completely heartbroken that it was because she wasn't feeling good.
It was only 2:00 pm when the girls were heading back to their cozy bed with their baby girl and Heather laid the infant in the center of the bed. Both of the girls shuffled in on either side of their daughter and rested their heads on their hands to look down at their baby girl. Although she wasn't behind held both moms were right next to each other holding each of her hands so she felt safe and secure. When Sophia began to whimper, the girls laid down and brought their faces next to their daughter's so their noses were touching her cheek which instantly settled her and allowed her to flicker her little eyes closed.
"I love her so much Naya. There is nothing I wouldn't do for her." Heather confessed while running her hands through her daughter's hair softly to relax her.
"I know what you mean. She's everything. You have no idea how grateful I am to have this life with you." Naya replied while reaching over the baby to place a kiss on her wife's lips who met her halfway. This was a crazy and overwhelming day for the new moms but they were so glad that they got the medication they needed for her and she was going to be okay. Motherhood was a rollercoaster but because all three of them were together and going to be alright, they were happy.
