"Draco Malfoy," Professor McGonagall called, her voice echoing in the silent Great Hall.
The blonde strode confidently to the wooden stool and took a seat. The Hat barely touched his head when it called out, 'SLYTHERIN!' To cheers from the Slytherin table, the blonde rose and took his place.
"Harry Potter," she called.
Harry heard the whispers that spread across the Hall, but kept his gaze focussed upon the stool. He was relieved when the rim of the Hat covered his eyes.
'WELL, WELL, HOW VERY INTERESTING.' Harry remained mute. 'WE'VE DONE THIS BEFORE. YOU DID WELL ENOUGH WITH YOUR CHOICE,' he admitted grudgingly. 'BUT I AGREE WITH MYSELF, HARDWORKING AND A FINE MIND. YOU'D DO WELL IN SLYTHERIN. NO PROTESTS? OKAY. SLYTHERIN!'
Draco led the cheers at the Slytherin table. Harry locked gazes with him and smiled. As he approached the table, the blonde patted the space beside him.

"Fred! George!" he called as he dashed after them, the sounds of breakfast in the Great Hall trailing after them.
They stopped for him. "Yes?" they asked curiously.
He ducked his head shyly. "We can still be friends, can't we?"
Their expressions softened. "Of course we can." They grinned. "And don't worry if you end up on your House team. We focus on protecting our team, rather than taking out our opposition."
"Good to know."
"You know about Quidditch, don't you?"
"It's a sport played on brooms, right?"
"It's so much more than that!"
He ducked his head. "Any chance you could give me a tour as you explain?"
"Sure," they replied, grinning. "Now…"

First year Slytherin and Gryffindor students watched as Neville rose into the air – most unaware of the danger as Madame Hooch ordered him to return to the ground. Harry shot into the air and streaked over to the lion, using a steady grip on the other boy's broom to ease them both back to the ground.
Neville slipped off the broom on shaky legs. "You had a near miss there Longbottom," Madame Hooch stated as she approached the pair. "Nice flying there Potter," she complimented. "Ten points to Slytherin. Now, get back in line."
"Yes Professor," he replied dutifully as he returned to his place, his broom against his shoulder. He slipped back into his place next to Draco. The blonde smiled at him. "What?" he asked softly.
"Nothing."

"You're Hermione right?" Harry asked.
"You know my name?" she breathed, surprised.
"Why wouldn't I know the smartest girl in our year?" he retorted.
She frowned. "Not everyone thinks it's a good thing," she murmured.
"You know he's just jealous right?" She startled. "You're new to this world, and you're so much better at everything than he is, who's lived in it all his life. I bet he's wishing he'd paid more attention to his Mum before he came to school."
"She taught him?" He nodded. "How do you know that?"
"I'm friends with Fred and George," he spoke with a warm smile. "Actually, we're going to be in the library after our last class, if you want to join us?"
"Who else will be there?" she asked shyly.
"Me, Draco, Blaise, Pansy and the twins. Pansy will be glad to have another girl there," he reassured.
"I'll be there," she spoke with a shy smile.

"What about the Philosopher's Stone?" Draco asked softly, turned toward Harry, inwardly smug at having the brunet on his bed.
Harry stretched his arms above his head. "Don't worry about it," he murmured. "I doubt having me in his House will distract Professor Snape so much that he doesn't keep an eye on Quirrell, at least until after Christmas."
"Why then?"
"Because then they add more protections after then, and he can't get past the last one," he stated with a negligent shrug. The blonde's eyebrows rose. "Not selfless enough."
"You were never tempted by it?" He shook his head. "Wealth and immortality," he spoke disbelievingly.
"I already had a vault filled with enough money to last me a lifetime, and all my family was dead, so why would I want to live forever?"
"Not all your family," the blonde protested.
"I didn't know that at the time," he pointed out.
"So what other changes are we going to make?"
The brunet blinked. "Should we?"
"Well, we know what'll happen if we don't, so why not do?" Harry snorted. "What?"
"You sounded like you reverted."
"I need the practise, and so do you," he retorted.
"Fine," he huffed. "So what're we going to do?"
