"They used to call the devil the father of lies. But for someone whose sin is meant to be pride, you'd think that lying would leave something of a sour taste. So my theory is that when the devil wants to get something out of you, he doesn't lie at all. He tells you the exact, literal truth. And he lets you find your own way to hell."

The next three months passed in a whirlwind of activity. Klaus never found the missing daggers. But Freya and Bonnie had done a powerful spell to neutralize any that remained. They had used the pregnant wolves' blood to make moonlight rings for some of the Crescents. After the birth of the child, the rings still held and they were considered a success. Marcel was busy keeping the balance of power, but hoped to be able to move back to Mystic Falls, leaving Josh to run daily operations.
It bothered Elijah no end that his memory was wiped and he constantly tried to recall what had happened to no avail. He had reached out to his Strix contacts and was sure they had nothing to do with the stolen daggers. Even Mikael had met with Elijah and said he knew nothing about them.
Kol called weekly from New Orleans, he was enjoying helping Josh and Marcel with the new vampires. He didn't say but Freya suspected he might have been dating someone. Davina was still with Kaleb and was doing well in school, still getting into trouble, but doing better.
Freya's healing (and anti-healing) salves had taken off at Keelin's clinic. They had gotten the greenhouse running and were finally making a profit. The charges again Rachael for the illicit pictures she had sent Connor's friend were dropped and the matter was over. But all the children were under strict orders to be careful with technology. The Originals also spoke to the kids about photographs. As none of the vampires would ever age, they didn't want any evidence uploaded online that could later come back and harm them.
Klaus was desperate to get Kol back. He had ordered him a silver 2010 Porsche Panamera. Elijah cringed at the $89, 800 price tag, but knew that Klaus was hurting badly. The guilt was eating him up. It was taking it toll and he had caught him snapping a little at his sons and once even at Penny. Klaus always apologized afterwards and tried to make it up to him, but with a baby on the way, tensions were increasing. Cami was often tired and ill. At the same time, she was trying hard to be a real mother to the children and being there for all of them emotionally, no small order.
In addition to the Porsche, Klaus had offered to break ground on Marcel and Rebekah's dream house. One part of this was Klaus wanting them back, but he also wanted to make up for the years he had daggered Rebekah and kept them apart. All the plans and specifications were theirs, but Klaus was undertaking the construction and overseeing of the project. It was on the family property, but far enough away to feel like it was a separate estate. As per Klaus, there would be a linking underground passage. Marcel was in a tough spot as Aiden, Tommy, and Hayley were still leaving at the Compound in New Orleans. It would be hard to be back and forth and leave them unattended. Elijah had asked Vanessa if she wanted a house of her own and she was horrified at the thought. The boys had only grown closer to their aunts and uncles and cousins. She could not remove them from that.
Caroline and Tyler had decided to move in on the fourth floor when the babies came. There would be room for a night nurse and day nanny so they could continue their education. Caroline seemed to be on the point of bursting. Keelin said that with werewolf pregnancies, that an accelerated growth rate was normal.
Klaus sat down behind his desk and stared at the wall. Things with their money was good.
Investments and businesses were improving under Elijah's able hand. But Klaus felt bereft. He had lost his brother again...
"Niklaus? May I come in?" Elijah asked as he tapped on the door frame of the open study door.
"Of course," Klaus said absentmindedly.
Elijah sat down and cleared his throat. "This has gone on long enough. I want you to call Kol and make a deal. It's what you do best. Tell him that you will never dagger or subdue him again, whatever it take. Swallow your pride and do what needs to be done."
"But what if...he flips his switch and we lose control over him. Remember the hospital in Spain? I just don't know if I can make that promise," Klaus admitted.
"If it comes down to that, I'll do it myself. But it won't. He's different now. He admitted that most of that mischief was to get our attention. He has it now. Come on, give him a call," Elijah prompted. "Does he know that the daggers were destroyed?"
"I assumed Freya told him. Then again, she can barely have a conversation without some rugrat needing a sippy cup refilled or the older ones 'redirected', as they say now. Bless her, she is more patient than I could ever be," Klaus mused.
"Nonsense. I've seen you with Penny. I would have smacked that behind of hers about twenty times while you worked to get her settled down and calm," Elijah confessed.
Klaus grinned, "It's alright. I know it doesn't always work with her, but she is making some strides. She and Liv only got into one major feud last week. Three this week, but small steps, right?"
"Right," Elijah agreed. "But Brother, it breaks my heart to see you yelling at your boys and arguing with them. What happened to 'delayed obedience is disobedience?' I hear you nagging at them and lecturing them when before you would have just acted. What is going on?"
Klaus looked at Elijah directly, "I'm afraid if I am too strict with them...they will leave me, too. Oh Elijah, I've made a mess of things."
Klaus went to get a bottle of liquor out of his desk drawer. Elijah said, "Niklaus, stand up please."
Klaus was alarmed by Elijah's tone. Was he going to thrash him right here over his own desk for being a terrible father? Klaus put the bottle back and stood uncertainly.
Elijah went over and embraced Klaus, "You are going to be alright, little brother. Come on, call Kol. Let's talk this out."
"I can't" Klaus whined.
Elijah grabbed Klaus and carefully bent him over his own desk. "Fine, you are asking for this! Don't move." Klaus put his elbows on the table and felt ridiculous with his dress pants stretched tight over his rear, but he was too numb inside to care. He tilted his head and heard little. Cami was out with Freya shopping for baby items. Vanessa must have been with the little ones looking after them. Had Elijah planned to wallop Klaus the moment his wife left the house if he was stubborn about calling Kol. Klaus' face grew stormy, but still he didn't move. Elijah returned a moment later with a wooden paint stick that was 21" long and 1- 1/16 wide.
Klaus groaned, "Oh bloody hell, the paint stick again?"
"Those five gallon paint cans don't stir themselves. You are the one who sent me to hardware store to pick up your items. These darlings were almost free, about $1. Not a bad price to repair our beloved family," Elijah quipped.
"You think paddling me is going to help? Whack away, Elijah. Your arm will tire before my resolve is broken. If I thought it would work, I would call Kol. He hates me," Klaus said heavy with emotion.
"He does not," Elijah intoned. "Take down your pants."
Thwap. Thwap.
Elijah swatted Klaus' slacks hard twice when he made no effort to move.
Then, twice more, harder.
Thwap. Thwap.
"Oh, give me a moment!" Klaus exclaimed. Thwap. Thwap.
"Owwww," Klaus spat out. "Fine." Klaus stood and undid his pants and pulled them down to his knees. He was wearing blue briefs that were snug across his seat.
Whap! Whap! Whap. Elijah paddled him across the fullest part of his rear and then to Klaus' horror, three more times across his bare thighs. Whap. whap. whap.
"Elijah! That's flippin' hurts!" Klaus gulped.
"Ah, did I failed to mention, I soaked this paint paddle in vervain and wolfsbane? A hybrid enforcer," Elijah smirked.
Smack. Smack. Smack.
Klaus grunted, "I've called Kol before. He was cold to me."
Whap. Whap.
"When you bought him the car? He was cold to you then?" Elijah pressed.
Whack! Whack! Elijah was smacking Klaus two or three times and then pausing to question him and let the sting sink in.
"I...I didn't tell him yet," Klaus shouted
"What?" Elijah asked. "You are more stubborn than I thought. I suppose you thought I was joking when I warned you that if you kept up this foolishness, I was going to discipline you."
"No, Brother, I just didn't care. I can't face Kol," Klaus said, his voice cracking.
"Your damn pride has no place here. I guess you will call him with a fiery, hot bottom. Underpants down," Elijah said tapping Klaus' briefs with the flat end of the stick. Tap. Tap.
Elijah yanked down Klaus' briefs quickly and smacked his bottom with his hand twice. Spank. Spank.
Klaus felt the air circulate over her bared, extended buttocks and shivered.
Klaus just started to cry and buried his hands in his head. "Just do it already."
Elijah paddled Klaus hard and said, "As you wish." Crack! Crack!
Klaus started to get up as soon as he felt the flaming lick from the treated paint paddle, but Elijah was only beginning.
"You are getting spanked until I break through you stubborn foolishness. Now, will you call Kol? Or do you want more spankings?" Elijah asked.
Whack! Whack! Whack!
Klaus' behind was now stripped with several pink lines. It stung, but he would not give Elijah the satisfaction.
Whack! Whack! Whack!
"Answer me or I'm going to use the salve and you will be squirming at dinner tonight," Elijah warned.
Whack! Whack! Whack!
Whack! Whack! Whack!
"Okay!" Klaus wailed. "You win!"
Whack! Whack! Whack!
"What? Do I get a prize? What are you agreeing to, Niklaus?" Elijah dig deeper.
Whack! Whack! Whack!
"I will call Kol, right now, and make a deal with him. I was just afraid he would say he was never coming back," Klaus wept. "We need our baby brother back. I need him, Elijah."
Whack! Whack! Whack!
"We all do. And my brother, your boys need him, too. And mine. And Kai...and the girls. He was good to them all. Even Sadie has not been the same," Elijah smiled. "Three more."
Whack! Whack! Whack!
Elijah put the paint paddle on the desk and then dialed his phone before Klaus could get up.
"Kol, it's Elijah. Niklaus has something to say to you," Elijah said before giving the phone to the still bare bottomed and bent over Klaus. The sharp sting in his behind encouraged him that it was indeed time to make a deal and bring Kol home.
New Orleans
Later that Day
"Davina, I said no and that is final," Rebekah said again. She was impatient as Rebekah was hungry and Marcel was already late for family night out. Aiden was off somewhere with Josh. Davina was having problems with Kaleb and being especially bratty lately.
"But Mom all the other kids are going! It is almost the end of the school year," Davina whined.
"Honey, that is the night of the dinner dance for the foundation. You know how hard your dad and Hayley have worked on it," Rebekah said. "You need to be there to support them."
"Hayley this, Hayley that, did it ever occur to you that she sucks up all of Dad's extra time with this stupid foundation. I'm sick of orphans and hearing about their problems," Davina admitted.
"Davina, the foundation is doing important work and helping a lot of kids. Now one more word out of you and you are going to your room for the night,-" Rebekah warned.
"Don't bother threatening me. I'm already going to my room to cast a spell!" Davina shot back.
"Young lady, you didn't let me finish. You will go up there, finish your homework, including that essay on the pros and cons of gun control, clean your room, and not go out with the rest of the family tonight," Rebekah finished.
"Mom, you are being rude!" Davina yelled.
"Yes, I've heard that before. Now are you willing to attend the dinner dance and forget about this party?" Rebekah inquired. "For your dad at least?"
Davina stamped her foot and balled her fists up and tightly replied, "I guess I don't have a choice."
"Davina, it will mean a lot to them," Rebekah said more gently. "Josh is coming."
Davina shrugged, "He's now Kol's best friend these days."
"Hey, they have been busy with the new crew, but that doesn't mean they don't care about you. You still have me," Rebekah said.
Davina nodded, "I know. Can I wear your blue sweater tonight?"
"Yes, of course. It's in the dry cleaning bag," Rebekah shared. She stood and went over and put an arm around Davina. "Go on, you can get it now."
Davina's mood brightened and she skipped up the stairs to Rebekah and Marcel's bedroom. She saw Tommy in his room on his bed, looking at something.
"Hey, what's that?" Davina asked.
"Nothing. Get out!" Tommy shot back.
"Don't be a dick!" Davina chided. She used her magic to carry the paper to her and snatched it.
Tommy ran over, "Give it back, Davina!"
"Ohhhh, someone is in trouble! An F in your reading class and you are not doing your homework...What? You are disruptive, too. Shit, you're dead. You got paddled again didn't you?"
"That's none of your damn business." Tommy snatched back the note, "Not if they don't find out, big mouth. Aiden doesn't need to know either."
Davina smiled wryly, "Well, I could be convinced to stay silent, if you help me play sick on the night of the dinner dance...then I can go to that party."
"How am I going to help you?" Tommy asked in suspicion. Tommy had been feeling restless these last few weeks. Marcel had been busy. Aiden and Josh had been going out a lot with Kol on the town. Hayley was with Jackson when not with Marcel. Rebekah was trying to hold it all together, but busy with the household and reasoning with Davina.
"I have a plan brewing. You act sick and then I pretend like I caught it from you. But you get better, I don't so I have to stay home alone. Maybe me with a couple of spells," Davina went on.
"Rebekah would never leave you home alone if you were sick," Tommy added.
"I know. You would have to convince her, that you weren't so sick to need help, but sick enough to be contagious. Deal? And I won't tell about that awful note you got. Didn't they say if you got in trouble again, you wouldn't just get grounded again?" Davina smirked. "Paddled at school, spanked at home."
Tommy's handsome face colored, "Shut up. I'll help you, but if you get my ass in more trouble..."
Rebekah cleared her throat, "Davina, you know how you warded these doors for silence? Well, we had someone undo that. You really should have checked your spell better. And Tommy, you can handle over the note. Davina, fake sickness? Witches don't really get sick, do they? You must thing we are really daft. You can head to your room now. Dad is going to want to put his two cents in.'
Tommy handed Rebekah the note from his teacher and she frowned. "Get out your textbook now. I want to see your work."
Tommy paled, "Sorry, I left it at school..."
Rebekah snapped, "Go take a shower and change for bed. No dinner out for the two of you. You can't behave, then no perks. You can eat here at home and then we'll discuss your behavior."
"Yes, ma'am," Tommy said softly.
Rebekah had come up to see if Davina found the sweater. It was an icy blue and made out of angora. But right now, Rebekah's mind was on the kids. Davina had become jealous of how close Marcel and Hayley had gotten working on the foundation. Rebekah continued to her room and went to check to see if Kol was home yet.
"Kol?" Rebekah called.
"Aye, I'm here. Problems with the wee ones?" Kol said as he sauntered up to his sister.
"Always. I'm sorry but I told them no dinner out tonight," Rebekah added.
"That's fine. Um, Nik called. He made me a deal. No more daggering-ever. He bought me a Porsche and he wants me, us really, to come home," Kol said.
"But what about Josh and the baby vamps? Your lady friend?" Rebekah went on.
"Bex, I have no lady friend. And Josh is good. Sister, I am going back to Mystic Falls. Klaus wants you to come, too. He said your house will be ready soon," Kol shared.
"But the kids? They have school...," Rebekah said. "And Marcel is so busy with the foundation."
"Aye, but school is almost out for the year. Marcel will be back and forth no matter what. Come on, consider it," Kol said. "I don't want to go without you."
"I can't leave Tommy here. I know Hayley and Aiden have romances and more at stake here. Let me talk to Marcel," Rebekah whispered. Maybe it could work. Tommy was getting into a bad crowd at school and seemed off. She missed her family in Mystic Falls.

Cami felt the child in her belly stir. She had been having dreams. It was a boy. She kept a rosary in her pocket and fingered the beads as she walked. It was sometimes the only things that calmed. her Freya glanced at her, "You okay? Let's sit down."
Cami nodded, "I'm tired all the damn time. If it wasn't for your tea, I'd be bedridden."
"You are growing a powerful child inside you. She is part witch from Ester's side, and then part wolf and vampire. She will have great power," Freya grinned.
"Freya, I feel like it's a boy. I've been having dreams. Almost like my late Uncle Kieran is trying to tell me something. Sorry, that sounds crazy," Cami laughed.
Freya grabbed Cami's hand. "No, it's not. Not at all."
"And Liv and Lukas have been looking at me oddly. Do you think they are tapping into their gifts more?" Cami wondered.
"Possibly. It's hard to tell because we've all been so busy. I'l check in with them tonight," Freya promised. "Lukas is mad at me because I wouldn't let him stay home from school. He didn't do his social studies project. Keelin kept asking him about it and he lied."
"Freya, have you talked to Klaus lately? Do he seem stressed to you?"
"Yeah, is he sleeping well?" Freya wondered.
"No, I think my dreams and restlessness are waking him up. Hey, let's head back. I'm tired. We can get the rest of the stuff later," Cami said.
"Yeah, I hate to leave Vanessa babysitting all day. Rosie has been trying to skip her naps and then she is fierce. I always gave her a swat yesterday. She would not stay in bed," Freya confessed. "Keelin gave her a threat and that finally worked. Our baby."
"You guys are so good with them. If I can be half as good as a mom as you two are, I'll be grateful," Cami remarked.
"You're sweet. But you look like you need your bed. Let's go. And Cami, Elijah was going to have a talk with Niklaus. He's gonna be fine. Those two have their own weird way of dealing with stuff," Freya grinned.
"True. Hey, feel here. He's moving!" Cami said moving Freya's hand on her now extended belly.
"He?" Freya asked in delight.
"I know it's a boy. Somehow I just know," Cami determined.

"What happened to the daggers? You said they were still spelled?" The figure asked in a hush.
"They were. Then, someone delinked them. They are worthless to us now," The other figure replied.
"That baby cannot be born. We are running out of time."
"The prophesy is vague. Maybe it is wrong?"
"You wish. We need another weapon, another spell," the cloaked figure hissed.
"I will think of something. If not magic, we can use less esoteric means."
"No! That would be...murder! Our kind cannot be involved in that," the figure growled lowering his saffron colored robe.
"One death verses millions or billions of deaths. Think on that."
"It would be a great sin."
"Yes, but it is the lesser evil."
"There is no such thing, only evil."
