That was the year, Jack had no clue about the date though, or even the day. All he knew was that he stood in front of where all the major events of everything would happen for god knows how long.
Fairy Tail.
'Ahhh yes the home of the homeless. Actually I don't have a home, or a coin to my name… or a birth certificate… for legal purposes I am a ghost!' Jack thought as he placed a hand on the oak door, ready to begin the next chapter of his life.
"Aww man I'm definitely going to need somewhere to stay if I wanna be a mage, and coin… haaaa being an adult is hard" He grumbled aloud before opening the doors to the guild.
Jack wasn't disappointed when he saw the guild, it was like an old pub, had that smell and aura too.
"Why is it so cold all of a sudden?"
"Brrr chilly!"
"I think the cold is nice"
"Its summer? I'm confused!"
"I'll do the warm up dance!"
"Hey ummm weird question, but does anyone have a place I can stay at until I get some cash to buy my own house?" Jack asks with his childish voice, which seems pretty cute and innocent. Everyone sitting in the bar noticed the newcomer and stopped talking to have a look at them.
Nobody responds. 'I mean who wants to be the old man that takes a kid home, nobody.'
"Are you the reason why it is so cold?" a childish voice asks Jack.
He nods. "Uhhh yeah, I have a condition… I think?"
A kid with blonde hair around Jack's age walked over to him from the bar. "Magical?"
Jack deadpanned. "No, I just have a cold"
"Oh" the kid replied, looking disappointed.
'Crap did I make him sad?'
"Its magical… I was just playing with ya" he says, watching the kid's face light up.
The blonde nodded as a raven-haired individual walked up behind him. "So you have cold magic or something right?" the blonde asked, intrigued as to what Jack's magic was.
Before he could answer the man put a hand on the blonde's shoulder. "Laxus, this is no time to be socializing, we must train, leave this weakling be"
Jack took offence to that, he was six, he was allowed to be weak. "How am I weak?"
The raven-haired man looked at me, Jack assumed he was Ivan Dreyar, Laxus' dad and son of Makarov. He seemed like the biggest dickhead to the snow haired boy.
"Because you are a child, like you said, you need a house to stay at. That includes food, water and money to pay bills. You are reliant, so you are weak" he spits out with passion. Anyone could tell that he really believed in what he was saying.
Jack frowned for a split second, letting what he preached sink in. Then laughed. "Oh man! You are funny!"
Everyone could tell that Ivan was pissed off. That a six year old had just laughed in his face about his ideals.
Jack looked Ivan dead in the eyes, as serious as stone. "You know what's good about being weak? You have a good excuse to team up with people, make bonds, have fun… if being strong means forfeiting that then I don't want any part of it!"
Shocked by how Jack countered his argument, how similar it was to his father's ideology, Ivan snarled at the child. He gripped Laxus even tighter around the shoulder. 'Today is the day my child gets stronger… I won't let that brat's mouth ruin it for me.
Ivan started to walk away, dragging Laxus along with him.
Jack watches as Ivan forces his son to come with him. He waved to the blonde boy with a smile on his face. "See ya later Laxus!"
"See ya!" Laxus waves back as he exits the guild.
Turning to face the guild hall, Jack smiles, he though he just made a friend, even if it where to be a minor antagonist turned protagonist in the future.
"So is this a wizard guild or just a pub? I wasn't joking about being homeless you know!" Jack asked causing a small old man to smile from his position at the bar.
"What is your name my boy?" the old man asked, who Jack immediately recognized as Makarov Dreyar.
He walked up to the older man, the veteran members watching as their first potential recruit in ages walked in their building for his first time. "Jack Frost… and you are?"
Makarov smiled as he extended his hand. "Makarov Dreyar, Guild Master of Fairy Tail!"
Jack shook his hand. "So do I get to join?"
Makarov allowed himself to chuckle at the kid's bluntness. "Why of course my boy… where do you want your guild mark and what colour do you want it to be?"
Jack thought long and hard about this decision, it was probably the most important thing in his life right now. "Give me black on my left rib!"
Makarov was shocked at the coincidence. His grandson has said the exact same words regarding his future mark placement. Yet he allowed the joy to flow through him, a new age of Fairy Tail was starting, with Laxus and Jack to pave the path for the rest of the future members of the guild. Though Laxus would have to wait until he was seven to join the guild, Dreyar family rules.
"My boy of course we can do that" Makarov said as the bartender fished around for the guild stamp.
The bartender looked up at Makarov, then down behind the bar. "Uhhh boss… we're out of black?"
Jack nodded, understanding his predicament. "Give me Ice Blue then, on my left pectoral"
The bartender nodded. "You got it kid… now take off your shirt"
"Pedo alert!" Jack joked as he took off his shirt, steam resonating off his person due to the sheer difference in temperature between his body and the room. The former being much, much colder.
Makarov grabbed the stamp and pressed it onto the middle of Jack's left peck. Holding it there for a couple seconds he removed it, showing the icy blue tattoo in the middle of his almost white skin.
"Officially you are a member of the guild… taking your age into account any mission that involves violence must be run through me, and if I approve it you will have to have a veteran mage accompany you" Makarov explained to Jack as he put his shirt back on.
"What do you mean I can't take normal quests without supervision from a veteran guild member?" Jack complained as a magical pressure dawned on them. The room was no longer cold, but lively with electricity.
A child's scream could be heard from miles away, prompting Jack to run towards the source. Kid body or not, he wasn't standing around while a kid was in pain, big or small. He used his ice magic to blast open the door and create a path in which he could skate on, increasing his speed and mobility.
Makarov followed suit, only on his feet and at a much faster pace than the six-year-old. Eclipsing his efforts in a manner of seconds.
It took Jack around half a minute to travel to the source of the screams, a small, secluded park where the Ethernano was going haywire. Storm clouds formed above as thunder clapped far away from human eyes.
"Ivan! What have you done to him?" Makarov yelled as he too started to leak Ethernano.
Ivan was laughing manically. "I have made him stronger! Stronger than you will ever be Makarov!"
From this distance, Jack could tell that the guild master was shedding tears. "For years I have forgiven you for your tests of strength and pursuit of power… but this is too far. You harm MY grandson by putting a Lightning Dragon Lacrima in him while he is still developing his fundamental magic reserves! You risked HIS life for YOUR stupid ideals! You are no longer my son nor a member of fairy tail! Leave and never return!"
This put a dent in Ivan's ego. His one shield had shattered. "WHAT?"
Enraged he shifted into a combative stance, but was ambushed by a wave of ice, separating him from Makarov.
"Impressive brat! But a wall this thin and short won't hold me!" Ivan cackled as Jack morphed into the ice wall, appearing in front of the now ex-guild member in what seemed to be an instant.
"Ice Make: Lance!" Jack screamed without using his hands to mould the ice. In seconds a massive ice spike chased after Ivan, who narrowly dodged the attack.
Jack inhaled as Ivan braced for another attack, assuming the exhale would release a destructive force. Yet when the snow haired boy exhaled, only millions of tiny snowflakes exited his mouth, harmlessly flowing into the area.
"You call that an attack brat? I'll show you a real attack!" Ivan mocked as he once again found himself in an offensive stance as the snowflakes began to invade the space directly in front and around Ivan.
"Makarov, is he stable?" Jack asked as Ivan fired what the ice mage assumed to be a paper doll at him.
"He will be soon!" the wizard saint yelled back across the ice wall as the shikigami pierced the chest of Jack.
Jack started to cough as the snowflakes started to settle on Ivan. "You bastard… you don't hold back on kids do you?"
"I never hold back against anyone… only the weak do!" he yelled before barraging Jack with Shikigami, putting holes in him wherever there was open space.
Jack fell onto his knee, coughing out ice. He looked up to see that Ivan was covered in a decent amount of snow, and a pile of it was forming behind him. He smiled before he crumbled into a pile of ice, shocking Ivan.
"H-How?" he asked, genuinely shocked by Jack's elemental body.
"Its simple… you are weak" Jack said from behind Ivan as he used the snow pile behind the man to reform into his normal body. Ivan turned around quickly only to find that the snowflakes on his clothes rapidly expanded into ice blocks, all connecting with each other to freeze him in place.
He watched with bated breath as Ivan froze in place with a grin. Somehow, he spoke through the ice. "I'm glad I left Laxus with a strong rival to help him master his abilities… remember this Ice boy, you only faced me at 10% of my true power"
Ivan then vanished, leaving the ice prison empty.
"Shit… he got away" Jack said with a sigh as he held out his right hand. "Return"
All the ice in the area warped into the palm of his hand, letting him see Makarov holding an unconscious Laxus who was still sparking with magical energy.
The guild master turned his head and looked at Jack. "You must not tell Laxus that his father did this to him. I will tell him about the lacrima that was implanted into him"
Jack nodded, there was a good reason for this, although it would lead to Laxus' character becoming an antagonist later on when Lucy would eventually join the guild. 'Maybe I can make a difference, shape him to be a better person… or just never let him become an asshole to begin with'
"It's a promise old man" Jack said as he started to walk back to the guild, thinking how Ivan was only at 10% of his power.
"Oh, and one thing… Ivan was at one third of his true power. He used a thought projection to stall enough time for him to escape... you did well to hold him off" Makarov explained as he picked up his grandson, tear lines fresh on his face.
Jack smiled as he continued his walk, no more words needed to be said. A small bond between a present guild master and the guild's future was formed, one that both knew would grow exponentially throughout the years.

Days had passed since Jack's encounter with Ivan, Laxus hadn't been seen since and Makarov was in a bad mood. Only Jack knew of what occurred. The members of Fairy Tail gossiped, they knew Ivan was expelled from the guild, Makarov announced it to everyone.
Macao Cornbolt walked over to him, Jack assumed to get information about what had happened.
"Hey Jack" he greeted as he walked over to the snow haired kid, an innocent smile on his face.
"Hey Macao" Jack greeted back, not looking forward to the conversation he was about to have.
Scratching the back of his head awkwardly, he gathered the courage to ask Jack a question. "I was wondering if you want to come with me and Wakaba for a job… you know, to get your feet wet"
Pleasantly surprised by this questioned, Jack showed little hesitation and was about to say yes. But something else stopped him from saying yes, as if it wasn't the right time. "Boys, thanks for the offer… but I want to take my first job with Laxus, I want you to help me with the more challenging jobs after I do some small jobs with my friend!"
Macao smiled and ruffled Jacks mess of snowy hair. "I'll hold you to that kid… but can you satisfy an old man's curiosity? Why wait for Laxus?"
Jack thought about it for a second, saying he wanted to do it with his friend was basic, and if there was one thing Jack Frost though himself not to be it was basic. "His dad just got expelled yeah? Considering that Makarov isn't telling anyone why he expelled Ivan, he'll more than likely distrust the man for a while. Its looking like he's going to need a friend to help him accept the decision"
Hearing all of that coming out a six-year-old kid's mouth made Macao's own open up like a fly trap. He regained his composure after a second and smiled. "You're a real gem kid"
From the other side of the bar Makarov was listening in, the slightest smile crept up on him. He was glad that Laxus had a friend looking out for him. His day had just been made a tiny bit better.
The doors to the guild swung open, the wood banging against the wall as an angry Laxus, half his face covered in bandages. "Why did you kick him out old man?"
Makarov held back his tears, his would was still fresh. But he did what needed to be done, he would do it again if it meant protecting Laxus, even if he hated him for it. "Ivan was dangerous to the guild, he went against everything we valued, so in light of that I excommunicated him"
God Makarov hated that rehearsed line. How he wanted to tell the truth, but that would only further shatter the boy now, he would tell him later when the wounds had healed. Was it a dumb decision? Yes, but he couldn't bear the thought of losing the last member of his blood family.
"I hate you old man!" he yelled before storming off, faster than he was before.
"I'll go talk to him" Jack said seconds after the electric blonde raced out of the building in a rage.
Jack walked outside of the building and began his search for Laxus.

Scowering every inch of Magnolia, Jack ended up in front of Kardia Cathedral, the last place he had to search for Laxus in.
He pushed open the surprisingly light doors and found the building almost empty. There Laxus sat, at the edge of the steps near the altar.
Jack smiled as he walked over to the electric blonde. "I finally found you!"
Laxus looked up, teary eyed and missing his head wrapping. A lightning bolt cut, that would later form into a scar now donned the right hand side of his face. He was furious. "Are you here because he sent you?"
Jack shook his head as he stopped a metre in front of Laxus. "I came here on my own"
Laxus looked down after Jack spoke, somewhat ashamed after yelling at an innocent. "I know why the old man kicked out my dad… he put a dragon lacrima into me. All he would talk about was making me strong, surpassing him and the shadow that the old man cast upon the entire family… that everything he ever achieved was discredited because he was the son of Makarov. I don't know how he feels, but I'm sure I will later on… this wouldn't have happened if I didn't have a weak body"
"Shut up" Jack ordered as he looked down at Laxus. "You're a six year old kid, you're allowed to be weak."
"You don't understand what its like to have a father who doesn't want you!" Laxus yelled, spit flying everywhere.
Jack smiled sadly as he took a seat next to Laxus. "You're right I don't… I don't even have a father, mother or brother… but that doesn't mean that I can't get one, right?"
Laxus looked up to Jack, who was flashing him a cheesy grin full of hope and optimism. "We can be family, right? Isn't that what Fairy Tail is?"
Jack could see the snot hanging from Laxus' nostrils as he sobbed a bit. "I'm not a member of fairy tail yet"
It was easy for Jack to find a solution. "How about we be family then? Brothers? No matter what we have each other's backs?"
Laxus sniffled, sucking all the snot up into his nose while wiping his tears away. "How do we do this?"
Jack created a knife of ice in his hand. "Are you sure you want to do this? There is no going back Laxus"
The blonde paused for a second before nodding. "I want a brother"
Jack handed him the knife and made another in his left hand. "You have to cut your right hand, deep enough that it will leave a scar, proof that we are brothers… and its going to hurt"
"I'm not afraid of some scars" Laxus said with a grin.
