The Truth Behind His Snowy Whites

For years, Tooth had heard about Jack Frost, the mischievous teen of winter who supposedly had teeth that were as white as freshly fallen snow. For years, she had wanted to take a look at them. Toothiana loved teeth, which made perfect sense since she was the Tooth Fairy, and teeth was her area of expertise. Jack had never lost a tooth, which meant that the only way Tooth would have been able to catch a glimpse of his snow-white teeth would be to actually meet him in person.

Unfortunately, the busy duties of the Guardian of Memories and the Tooth Fairy were not easy to squeeze out of. And Tooth didn't mind. She loved her job and she loved helping the kids, even though she usually stayed in the Tooth Palace and helped with the teeth organizing instead of collecting teeth herself.

Then, after bringing Jack Frost to the Globe Room after discovering that he was to become a Guardian, Tooth couldn't restrain herself. Jack's teeth were beautiful! They even sparkled! She had never seen such perfect teeth in her entire life, and she couldn't help but swoon at their perfectly perfect beauty. Of course, this gave her a very odd first impression on Jack, but after defeating Pitch, Jack didn't mind Tooth taking an occasional glance inside of his mouth just to gaze at his pearly whites. The whole thing was rather amusing to the winter spirit, but he did sometimes wish that Tooth would leave his teeth alone sometimes. If he was asleep, he would sometimes wake up to Tooth poking and prodding in his mouth. If he ate too many sweet things, Tooth would suddenly appear with a toothbrush and toothpaste in hand. Jack had no idea how she managed to get her hands on a toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste so fast. Were they hidden behind her back? Or could she summon them at will? Jack did not know, but he complied whenever Tooth told him to brush well after eating something sugary. Jack was beginning to see Tooth as a mother, and he didn't want to disobey her.

Even though she had seen Jack's teeth multiple times since he had become a Guardian, Tooth couldn't help but grin, squeal, or brighten at the sight of them. They were the whitest, most beautiful teeth she had ever seen in her entire immortal life. Ever! And this soon led to the question while she was returning from her nightly rounds: how did Jack keep them so very white?

Tooth decided to find out. But whenever she prompted the question, Jack would simply shrug and say that it's his secret, and he wasn't going to reveal anything. The Tooth Fairy also noticed that Jack seemed somewhat…nervous whenever she brought up the topic on how he kept his teeth so white. Jack could eat hundreds of sugar stocked Christmas cookies and come back the next day with his teeth as fresh and white as a cloud. Tooth's curiosity soon got the best of her. She needed to know how Jack kept his teeth so white.

On the day of the daily Guardian meeting, Tooth was the first to arrive. North was busy in the Workshop, so Tooth took her chance and fluttered all the way to Jack's bedroom. The winter spirit had been staying in Santoff Claussen as spring drew near, but he still spent time at his lake in his tree sometimes. Tooth cracked the door open and looked around the blue room. Jack wasn't in bed, nor was he seated at his desk. The room was empty, so Tooth entered it.

The first thing that Toothiana noticed was how messy Jack's room was. She frowned at the sight of cookie crumbs scattered on the floor, and the Guardian of Fun's desk was littered with paper and books. Jack did read, but the sight of his desk made it look like he had been reading five books at the same time. Jack's covers were thrown off his bed, and his sheets were dangling from the sides, and the window was left open, giving Tooth a clear view of the snowy weather outside.

It was obvious that Jack needed to tidy up, and Tooth did this as she hovered around Jack's room. She folded up a couple of blankets and opened Jack's drawer when something shiny caught her amethyst eyes. Tooth placed the blankets aside and pulled out the silver box and opened it, and she nearly dropped it when she saw what was inside. Pure shock ran through her, and she clenched the silver box in her hand.

Jack was going to wish that he had stayed at his lake.

The other Guardians arrived soon after the Northern Lights had appeared in the sky. North greeted everyone joyfully, and he, Bunnymund, and Sandy waited for Tooth and Jack to arrive. North had not seen the Tooth Fairy enter, so they all assumed that she hadn't arrived yet.

Ten minutes later, Jack Frost flew in, laughing mirthfully as he brought with him a trail of snowflakes. He directed the wind to blow some snow at Bunny, which made him grumble, but he didn't start an argument. Jack landed nimbly on his feet with grace that no other being could muster, and he flashed his lopsided, impish grin to each of the other Guardians that were standing in the room.

"Hey, guys!" Jack said cheerfully. "How are things going for all of you?"

"Things are going great!" North said with a smile. "Toys are being produced quite quickly!"

"I'm ahead in painting my eggs," Bunny announced proudly. "I might even have extra leftovers for this year's Easter."

Sandy nodded with a grin and produced the image of a peacefully sleeping child. "Children are sleeping soundly, and none of them have had any nightmares."

Jack's smile widened. "That's great! And 'Roo, if you really do have chocolate leftovers, can I have them?"

Bunny crossed his arms and smirked. "We'll see."

"Tooth might not let you eat so much chocolate, moy mal'chik," North chuckled.

Jack shrugged. "I'll hide them," he said simply.

Sandy looked around and put up the image of Tooth and a question mark. Usually, the Tooth Fairy was the third or second to arrive. The Guardians looked around.

"Huh, I do not know, Sandy," said North. "Maybe she is late."

"Wow, Sheila's late for the first time in ages," Bunny said in surprise.

"Maybe she's at the Tooth Palace," said Jack. "I could go and—"

"JACKSON OVERLAND FROST!" came a sudden, shrill feminine voice that only belonged to none other than Queen Toothiana herself. Jack felt himself freeze completely at the tone of her voice, and even the other older Guardians felt intimidated by her shout.

"Uh oh, what happened?" asked Bunny. He turned to Jack. 'What did ya do, Frostbite?"

"I don't know," Jack said in a bemused whisper.

Tooth flew into the Globe Room. Upon seeing Jack, her frown deepened, and her glare was sharper than daggers. Jack shivered.

"He's dead," muttered Bunny.

North walked up to Tooth. "Toothy! It iz good to see you. Vhat is the matter?"

"The matter? The MATTER?!" exclaimed Tooth. She dashed up to Jack and held out a silvery box in front of Jack. "Does THIS look familiar to you?"

Jack paled and he stepped back. "I…er…Tooth…I can explain…" he stuttered.

Sandy, North, and Bunny were confused. "What is that, Shelia?" asked Bunny.

Tooth turned around and held the box up high, then, she shook whatever was inside out into her palm. Bunny, North, and Sandy leaned in and gasped.

In her pink, small hand was a pile of teeth whitening strips.

The Guardians all turned to Jack, who's cheeks were dusted with a reddish-purple blush.

"I swear, I can explain all of this!" Jack exclaimed, although what was seen seemed to sum up the unexplained.

"All this time, you used teeth whitening strips?!" Tooth shouted as she fluttered up to Jack, who very much looked like a child being scolded by his mother at this point. "How could you, Jack?!"

Bunny shook his head. "Crikey, Frostbite…this is…insane."

"I have to say, I am pretty surprised," said North. Sandy nodded in agreement, a surprised face appearing over his head.

All of these comments went ignored by Tooth, who was advancing on the winter spirit. "You have a lot of explaining to do. Starting with where you got these!"

Jack laughed nervously. "Uhh….I just remembered I have some places that need some snow. Like, really need snow. I'll see you guys later. BYE!"

Jack flew off on the Wind, but Tooth followed him, screeching, "GET BACK HERE, JACKSON! WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THIS RIGHT NOW!"

The two soon flew out of earshot, leaving a very bemused Bunnymund, North, and Sandy.

Bunny blinked. Then he blinked again. He opened his mouth to say something, then he closed it.

Sandy produced the image of the Guardians chasing after Tooth and Jack. "Should we…?"

North shook his head. "Nyet, my friend. This is something that Jack got into on his own. So, ve vill let him deal vith it."

Bunny and Sandy nodded in agreement.
