Chapter Three: Breaking Point

It's the end of the following week. They haven't spoken a word to each other since he revealed that he stepped outside their marriage.

They no longer eat together, they barely even look in each other's direction, and Hinata has started using a company car to get to work and back as she refuses to ask her husband to take her anywhere.

One evening as Hinata arrives home, upon opening the door she runs into Sasuke who was fixing his coat about to walk out. The two glares met and it was intense, but soon both look away from each other unable to see anything familiar in their eyes. Hinata was crushing inside as she was fully aware that he might be leaving to be with that woman again, she bows her head and starts walking past him.

"You know, you can just tell me... and I'll stop seeing her." He says with a low and calm voice while turning his head slightly towards her.

"I'll never see her again if you admit it right now."

Hinata scowls at him "I already told you, I was never having an affair, it was one stupid kiss that I didn't even return." Her eyes were starting to get foggy and her breathing erratic. "God.." She mutters trying to catch her breath. "Why are you doing this to me, to us?"

He scoffs and heads through the door slamming it, leaving her with her thoughts. He wasn't actually going to see Sakura that evening he was meeting up with the boys to drink, but he still wanted her to think he was meeting another woman hoping that she would break from her own guilt.

Hinata briskly walks away while wiping her now brimming eyes but she's angry that he's punishing her for something she didn't mean to happen. She slams the door to her bedroom in retaliation with a loud scream but he was already driving away.

Soon after, she gets into the shower and scrubs herself coarsely 'Why would I admit to doing something I never did?'

Her anger slightly diminishes when she considers just admitting to it even if it was false, just so he would stop cheating. Then she realizes that she would just be pegged as an even bigger liar and a cheater because it would mean that she indeed tried to hide an affair but broke due to her own guilty conscience, she couldn't win either way.

The tears were now too powerful to keep in because of this realization, she stops scrubbing, holds her head in her hands, and sobs uncontrollably as the water splashed on her hair. She gently whispered again "Why are you doing this to me."

She feels so defeated, her friends were both still gone and even though they tried to call her as much as they could it wasn't enough to ease her sadness. At times she would just watch her phone ring and stop constantly, using it as a lullaby as she falls into her tear filled sleep.

The days turned into another week with the couple ignoring each other's presence in the house which use to radiate warmth but now just felt cold. They could feel the divorce looming over them, though neither wanted to file the petition, both were nervously expecting the other would.

The evening came and with it another tense encounter. Hinata enters the house and catches him about to make his way out. When he left her the previous week she didn't see him again until three days later.

He was about to pass her with his eyes fixed on the door, and her heart sank with despair at the thought of him leaving again for days, so without thinking she grabs his sleeve and he stops. He looks at her, there were no tears but he could see a timid woman trying her best to smile but failing miserably.

"Sasu" She says faintly "C-can you pl-please stay home tonight." She mutters he could barely hear her.

"Will you admit that you've been cheating if I do?" He replies harshly while turning his head back to the door.

She just stood there tightening her grip on his sleeve "…Please Sasu… Please don't leave me tonight." she responds with her eyes now teary.

With that answer he knew she wasn't going to confess to anything, he grabs her hand and curtly flings it off his sleeve then stomps out the door slamming it behind him.

A few more days pass by.

They both wake up feeling less than content in their separate rooms.

Hinata wailed silently most nights. Her heart still shattering, she couldn't stop her tears no matter how hard she tried, they just kept coming back night after night soaking her pillows.

Whenever he bothered to go home, instead of staying in a hotel or with Sakura he was always wide awake thinking. His wife's reaction was still confusing to him. He expected her to be angry with him and let her guilt take over to try and displace the pain back to him, which would prove that she did actually cheat. Extreme sadness was not what he was anticipating that his cheating wife would experience from his revelation. He rubs his face in his hands as he lays on the bed.

'Was she being truthful? Did she really not cheat?'

'Was it really just a misunderstanding, am I overreacting?' He turns over in the bed and sighs loudly into the pillow then lets out a deflated "Fuck".

Considering the possibility of her honesty and loyalty to him made him want to peel his skin away from shame. He takes up his phone as it buzzes and checks his messages then all those thoughts quickly vacated his mind. Everyone still believes that she was indeed having an affair based on the photo and his friends made sure he continues to remember.

"Hey man plenty of fish in the sea, drinks later?" Suigetsu texts

"Stay strong man she deserves nothing from you" an irate Jugo texts

Seeing the messages makes his mind shift away from thoughts of forgiveness and shame.

'Why the fuck would kiba kiss her randomly if there was nothing going on between them?' he asks himself inwardly while sighing. He was once again convinced that she had an affair with Kiba at some point in their marriage.

His friends' constant nudging, the jeering comments online plus Sakura's endless lecturing about Hinata's disloyalty clouded his mind and resulted in him always going against his better judgment to work things out with her. Deep down he does want to openly forgive his wife, but his reputation would suffer drastically. He would be seen as weak compared to the other cut-throat businessmen and women in the field, and he couldn't have that, not with the kind of partners he has to deal with.

Soon he notices the missed calls from Sakura and thinks about how he didn't really want to see her again tonight, he had already been with her two times this week. He only needed her that one night, but now he was in too deep, she's just so useful for his urges since he wasn't getting any from Hinata. He is still deeply in love with her even though he feels burning hatred for her at the moment. He starts to put the phone down when it begins to ring, it was her, he answers just before it stops ringing

"Hello," he says lazily.

"Hey you, you didn't call me when you got home yesterday I hope I didn't wear you out too much," Sakura says teasingly.

He scoffs "Uh no I'm fine I was just busy." He actually didn't care much about updating her though.

"Well I hope you won't be busy all day, I would love to see you later if that's ok," She says smilingly

"I'll see if I can find some time, I'll let you know if I'm on my way." Sasuke hangs up feeling a tug at his heart, he ignores it and gets ready for the day. He didn't go home that night.

Another week came and went and Hinata started to get used to coming home to an empty house but was pleasantly surprised this evening as Sasuke's car was parked fully in the garage as if he wasn't planning on going out.

She walks inside and sees him laid back on the couch, he was fast asleep.

As she gets closer to him she could smell alcohol in fact, he smelt like a distillery, she saw the source in front of him almost completely empty.

'Was he thinking of me?' she thought

She ponders to hold him as he sleeps in hopes that if he feels her embrace maybe it would compel him to stop cheating on her. She sits close beside him and softly swaddles him with her arm, resting her head on his shoulder. She felt so at ease at last as if she could fall asleep right there.

Unexpectedly she hears him whisper "Sakura, I'm tired let me rest first."

She whispers back with her voice breaking, "...Sasu, I-It's Hina" with tears racing down her face as a result of the sentence he uttered.

Sasuke hears her, looks over at her, and flings her arm off of him violently then shoves her away from him making her back hit the side of the couch.

"Get the fuck away from me," he says, it was quiet yet harsh. He gets up grabs his keys, and bolts through the front door slamming it behind him.

Hinata couldn't believe what had just happened as she sat there in complete shock with tears still surging from her eyes, she holds both her hands over her mouth tightly, and lets out a muffled shriek.

This was it she knew right then, that there was nothing more she could do. Sasuke was no longer the man she planned on spending the rest of her life with.

A week afterward

Hinata wakes from yet another tear-filled sleep, from Sasuke slamming the front door as he exited.

She squeezes her pillow wishing to go back to her dreams since her reality was now a nightmare. Her marriage was in complete shambles, her husband continues to treat her coldly and she doesn't know how to fix it. The thought made her want to cry but alas no tears would spring forth, she was now deprived of the one thing that lessens her distress as she was too dehydrated.

She gets up from bed almost collapsing backward as her head spins. She knew she wouldn't be able to keep up her cheerful façade today for her colleagues and patients, truthfully she started to loathe the thought of passing the spot that made her life hell.

She clears her throat and calls her assistant

"Good morning Mrs. Uchiha,"

"Anko, I'm not feeling too well so please reschedule my appointments for today and tomorrow ok." She says it kindly but her voice was hoarse.

"No problem I'll get right on it, see you when your next in" Anko replies

Hinata says thank you and ended the call.

She sits back on her bed checking her social media hoping that the news has now died down, but unfortunately a few people were still sharing their opinions on the matter. The tears that had earlier neglected her returned in full effect as she read some of the new comments teasing and mocking her about her infidelity, labeling her as the slut wife. It was only one or two new comments since the last two weeks but it was enough to tear into her fractured ego.

Suddenly her phone starts ringing in her hand, it was her father. Hinata doesn't answer, she wasn't up for another earful from him this morning. The last time she spoke with him he adamantly instructed her to return home and stop all this foolishness. He never approved of Sasuke, especially disliking his business practices, and preferred for her to marry someone morally rounded in the field to align with the family brand. Her rumored infidelity proved that the marriage was in fact flawed.

Hinata waits for the phone to stop ringing ignoring her father's call.

She then continues to scan through the other articles for the week, but then another nasty comment pops up on her page. She heedlessly begins deleting all her social media accounts one by one. She was tired of seeing the horrible things people had to say about her. Hinata tosses her phone on the bed and goes to refresh her body with a shower.

While bathing she recollects Sasuke's words that were still engraved in her mind 'Yes, and I enjoyed it even more knowing you were here crying for me.'

Thinking back on his hurtful expressions made her blood start to boil but the sadness quickly overpowers it. Even if she truly did want to divorce Sasuke he would make certain that she gets little to nothing out of it, she despised living under her father's thumb and would have no choice but to confirm that his decisions were better for her, she was trapped.

"Sasu, why don't you need me anymore?!" she cries, the returning silence rang out to her like a deafening alarm, he wasn't even there to hear her call.

Hinata squats down in the shower and sobs while the water poured from above washing away the tears from her face.

She was ready to crawl back into her asylum, wanting to forever hide away from the world when she hears a loud bang on the front door which makes her jump.

Then there was another bang, soon the banging became relentless.

Sasuke is a heartbroken Uchiha who loved deeply and now wanted revenge on the person he trusted with all his heart, so I'm glad you all picked up the vibe I was trying to convey last chapter. His motives will be revealed soon. There will be growth though don't you fret.

A/N: I'm sorry this chapter makes Hinata look weak it's needed to highlight the current state of their marriage and to better convey another plot point that will come up. Don't worry though, next chapter she'll perk up and I'll try my best to get it ready before I'm swamped at work next week.
