there are a few things I want to address before we get to the story. First, this is a work in progress, so things may change as the story goes on. second, I am going to crosspost this on ArchiveOfOurOwn, so I get more feedback. I will probably do that with my other stories as well. Third, I really want to finish this, so I will be only focusing on this when I'm not working or sleeping. I won't say that there will be more frequent chapters. Finally, I plan on drawing some of the characters after I finish this. I won't draw all of them because some, like Flowey, are exactly the same in appearance with their classic counterparts. The only difference being a different color. I will draw them if I feel like there is a big enough difference between their Agetale self and their classic self.
"Say Chara," instructed Chara as they waited for Flowey to lure their mother back here.
"Cara," said Riley. Chara shook their head and repeated their name. "Char- Chara"
"That's me," said Chara while they pointed at themselves. "Now say Riley."
"Wiley," said the child, messing up on the r.
"No, Riley," said Chara, emphasizing the r.
"Rrrrriley," said Riley, emphasizing the r like Chara.
"Say Riley," said Chara as they thought, 'I feel like I've become Riley's mother. I'm not sure how to feel about that.'
"Riley," said an excited Riley as she giggled.
"That's you," said Chara as they poked Riley's belly. Riley giggled and tried to bat away the spirit's arm. "I wonder what's taking Flowey so long to get Mom."
"Mom," said Riley as she stared at Chara.
"Did you just call me Mom?" asked Chara, hoping Riley was just repeating their words
"Chara Mom," cheered Riley.
"I'm not your mom," said Chara as they remembered what they were just thinking about. Riley's eyes began to tear up. "I can't be your mom." Chara gently pulled a tearful Riley onto their lap. "I'm a curse. I only hurt those around me. I've tried to help Monsterkind, but all I did was take away what little hope they had left." Chara felt the black substance that made up their form begin to act up. "I've turned my kind brother into a soulless genocidal flower, my dad now has the bodies of six dead children on his hands, and my mom had isolated herself here in these ruins, unable to admit that it isn't all Asgore's fault."
"Hello?" a familiar voice called out.
"There's Mom," said Chara as they lifted Riley off their lap. "Go with her. She will take care of you." Chara ran off, trying their best to ignore Riley's cries of their name.
