CHAPTER FOUR

Cat sighed, sitting next to Beck. "I'm scared, Becky..."

"I know, Cat. You say it every 5 minutes," Beck said.

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be. I'm scared, too. I promise I'll get us out of here."

"How?"

"They'll be dumb one day. they'll leave something open or unlocked."

"How long have we been here?"

"A week or so."

"It feels like years. I'm not even scared to use that nasty bathroom anymore," Cat said, sending a glare to the bathroom in the corner.

"It's not so bad since we cleaned it."

"Water doesn't clean. We need an actual cleaner or disinfectant."

"Tough luck."

"Why are you always talking when we come in here?" the smaller man asked, causing them both to flinch. They didn't even hear the door open.

"There's nothing else to do," Cat said. "What are we supposed to do, play games?"

"Don't be a smart ass," he said, handing them both a sandwich in a Ziplock bag and a water bottle. "Eat. Shut up or I'll kill you."

"Thank you," she whispered.

The mad left and Cat sighed. "I'm starting to think they only like bologna," she said, opening her bag.

"At least they feed us," Beck said.

"I guess. It's getting old, though. Don't they know peanut butter and jelly is cheaper... and tastier?" she said, taking a bit and scrunching her nose. "Miracle Whip... the devil's mayonnaise."

"It's not that bad," Beck laughed.

"Mayonnaise shouldn't be sweet."

"Neither should popcorn, but you eat bibble."

"I'm not allowed to anymore," she muttered.

"When we get out of here, I'll buy you a huge bag."

"You keep Jade and Tori away from it... do you think they think about us?"

"I'm sure everyone is worried."

"What if they aren't?"

"They are."

"Do you think they're looking for us?"

"They probably are. The police, too."

"Are we gonna get in trouble?"

"No. The police will help us."

"How do you know? How can you be sure?"

"Because there's no way our families haven't contacted them with us being gone for so long."

"U hope so... I don't wanna be here anymore."

"I know. Neither do I."

"If you would stop biting Sinjin's head off, he'd stop crying when you look at him," Tori said as she, Trina and Jade walked into the Vega house.

"If he'd stop bothering me, I'd stop making him cry," Jade said as Trina made her way upstairs.

"How was school, girls?" David asked.

"Good," Tori said as she and Jade sat their backpacks on the couch. "You doing more case work?"

"Yeah."

"Have you found anything else out?" Jade asked.

"We found their wallets around the same area their phones were found."

"Why would they scatter their things?"

"To send us on a wild goose chase. Whoever took them wants it to take a while to find them. Or not find them at all."

"But you will, right?" Tori asked. "You'll find them?"

"One way or another."

"Have you found their backpacks?" Jade asked.

"Not yet."

"They always kept their wallets in their backpacks. They never took them out."

"It's likely their captors went through their wallets to get rid of things. they didn't have money or cards in their wallets. they took Back's ID but left is social security card. Cat's ID was in a hidden zipper of her wallet, so it's likely they didn't even see hers."

"She did that on purpose. In case someone stole it."

"We're hoping to find their backpacks in the same area but haven't had any luck yet."

"How long can it take to find them?"

"Could take months. Could take years. Hopefully we find them soon, but we're looking 24/7."

"Jesus... When do you sleep?"

"When the next shift takes over."

"What are you doing?" Robbie asked as he and Andre sat on April's bed.

"Going through Catey's e-mail," April said.

"Why?"

"To see if there's anything alarming. Hints."

"Is that wise? Shouldn't the police be doing that?" Andre asked.

"Well, they aren't. and they wouldn't know what to look for. I know her code words."

"Do you know where she went?" Robbie asked.

"If I knew where she was, the police wouldn't be fucking looking for her," April snapped. "If I knew where she was, I wouldn't be so scared, I wouldn't be crying myself to sleep wondering if my little sister was dead or alive! You have no idea what goes on through my head. I have these terrible thoughts about what could have happened and none of them end in her being alive! I keep having dreams of getting the call that she was found, but they always end in seeing her laying on a slab in a morgue! You have no clue what I'm going through!" April sobbed.

Andre wrapped his arms around her in a hug. "She'll be fine. They both will."

"You don't know that!"

"We have to stay positive, A. We have to believe that she's okay."

"Statistics say she's dead... I try to stay happy, but it's so hard pretending that everything is fine... It's not fine - my little sister is missing and possibly dead," she sobbed.

"I didn't mean to upset you, I'm just worried about her," Robbie said.

"No one is as worried as I am. I've been with her since birth. She's my best friend, my soul mate. I can feel that something is wrong, Robbie. I don't know what it is, but it's not good."

"How do you know?"

"It's the twin thing."
