CHAPTER 2
Off on the edge of the fair grounds, Weiss and Siniy sat under the shade of an oak tree. Unfortunately Weiss's allowance card had been declined at the corn dog stand and so Siniy paid for his own food… And bought Weiss a corn dog because that was the right thing to do for a girl who just found out her father cut her off from her only source of money. "JNPR's match will be starting soon." Siniy said, as Weiss brushed her hand over his. The disparity in size made her feel smaller than usual.
"And I've no doubt of the outcome of the match." Weiss said, before Siniy turned his palm over so that he could gently squeeze her hand.
"Are you saying we should not get up from our little hiding spot to go see our friends win?" Siniy asked with a smirk. Weiss knew what he was doing. He wanted her to be seen with him. Not as some prize, but because he wanted her to be open and comfortable about the fact they were dating.
"I'd…" Weiss started. "Well… It's not a lie." She thought. "I'd rather just sit here with you if that's alright. After my team fight I could use a minute to relax." She said, smiling a little, before Siniy, as gently as one could with such big hands, picked Weiss up from under her arms and sat her sideways on his lap. Flustering a bright Red, Weiss tried to hide her face as Siniy guided her to lie against his chest. Her head could't even touch his chin.
"Then go ahead and rest my Angel of the Morning." Siniy said in Cyrillic, as he wrapped his arms around her like a heavy blanket. Though Weiss could only understand the loving pet name Siniy had given her, she didn't need to know the rest. It was surreal. The last time Weiss could remember being held like this was when she was a child… Her grandfather Nicholas… Usually she would have shunned being touched by anybody, but with Siniy she felt safe… Wanted… That innate physical contact she'd rejected all her life felt… Warm. Looking up, Weiss gazed into Siniy's electric blue eyes for a second, and she had a thought…
Remove the bear ears, tone down how vibrant his eyes were, and nobody would doubt it if he claimed to be a Schnee with how white his hair appeared when graced by the sun rays peeking through the leaves of the forest… "We would make beautiful children… Children!?" Weiss thought, as she furiously blushed again. Looking down at her toes to avoid being seen so red in the face, Weiss only continued her train of thought. "But that would require…" Weiss didn't even finish the thought before she felt a swell of heat grow in her chest. Taking a deep breath she put an end to that line of thinking, and calmed herself. She had no doubt Siniy would probably be an extremely gentle and caring lover, but there was a time and a place, and a week into a relationship that wasn't ever supposed to be public was not the time, and the edge of the fairgrounds surrounded by people was not the place. "They would be beautiful though."
Team JNPR's fight thus far had been a hard one. May Zedong had the entire team pinned down and initially Jaune's idea was to scatter his team, forcing her to split her attention. This gave Nora enough time to charge up her semblance with the artificial lighting storm on the mountain side of the stage, and once Nora was good and empowered she lobbed a cluster of grenades at May, which destroyed the best sniping nest on the forested side of the stage, forcing the enemy Team BRNZ to regroup… This was where Jaune's studying paid off.
"FORM A WALL!" He shouted. Though there were only two, the shields of the team clustered together, as Nora and Ren formed up behind them. "FORWARD!" Jaune ordered, as he and Pyrrha stepped in rhythm, their teammates behind them hunched down and weapons ready, Pyrrha sticking her rifle out from behind her shield. "FIRE!" And with the order, Pyrrha, Nora and Ren made it rain dust. Bullets and bombs peppered Team BRNZ and with half of the team so low on aura a grenade and a few of Pyrrha's well placed rifle rounds took two of their opponents out of commission. May was able to take a single shot at Jaune which bounced off his shield, before a grenade flung her out of the ring. Nolan was the last man standing on his team. He attempted to close the gap between himself and Team JNPR… It was a very flawed attempt. Jaune broke formation, door kicked Nolan onto his ass, and clocked him in the face with the edge of his kite shield, knocking the cattle prod wielding teen out of the fight.
Triumphantly raising his sword to the sky, eyes closed, tearing up, Jaune could not have been more proud of his victory. It worked, though not an amazing display of tactical cunning, or a hyper specialized battle drill designed to pin an enemy down with unrelenting firepower to flank and sweep, the shield wall worked. Better than that, it worked well for his team composition and size, much like a squad of riot police, and there was talk of getting Nora a shield of her own to expand the size of the wall, and possibly some of those flashbangs Clayton liked to make. From his side, Pyrrha wrapped Jaune in a hug. She couldn't have been happier that their leader's excessive studying and hours of gym time and sparring practice paid off. The shield punch was something spontaneous Jaune had done one night on the rooftop, and apparently it stuck as a valid attack.
On the other side of the kingdom, inside a dockside bar, a single patron sat hunched over the counter. "Those kids weren't half bad." The bar's owner said, polishing a glass with a rag. The patron shrugged.
"They're cohesive, I'll give them that." He said, before the next fight played out. It took longer than expected. Team SSSN was a mess. "But that was a mess." The drunken man said, knocking back a shot.
"What, you didn't like that fight? Or any of the one's before it?" The bar owner asked. "What fight are you here for?" He asked. The drunk shrugged, before spotting a familiar airship passing by.
"Guess it'd be that one."
From their secluded spot on the edge of the fair grounds, both Weiss and Siniy saw the airship flying overhead, and Weiss bolted up out of Siniy's embrace. "What, what is it?" Siniy asked, as Weiss got to her feet.
"She's here!" Weiss said, attempting to help Siniy to his feet.
"Who?" Siniy asked.
"Winter!" Weiss said, before she took off towards the landing pads near the school's entrance.
Authors note. Awwwww, Weiss and Siniy being all cute and stuff.
