Hello dear readers, this chapter will differ from previous in a lot of ways, so brace yourselves for a cold and severe Mother Rissia.
Also I'm really curious about your reaction on my version of Nick. Leave your comments, that's really means a lot for me.
P.S. Music List:
Seether-Fake it
Five Finger Death Punch-Trouble
And I think it would be perfect to listen for some classic russian rock music to understand my Nick better. For example:
Enjoy.
7000 km away, somewhere near Saint-Petersburg, Russia
He felt invincible. No, he knew he was invincible. He was the smartest and the slickest mammal in the world, so sly that nobody could ever get to him. And he had reasons.
He had just escaped the jaws of inevitable death, he was sure. But, for now it was too early to celebrate, he still had too much troubles. And one of these troubles was standing right in front of him, refusing to buy the «natural birch» that he was offered.
«Ты мне лапшу на уши не вешай, урод, я эту хрень покупать не буду за такое бабло.» (Don't try to trick me, asshole, I won't buy this shit, it's too expensive) said the hedgehog in the builder's uniform, suspiciously looking at the red fox in front of him.
Nicholas needed money so much right now. He just traveled through half of the country, only with a few thousands roubles in his pocket. No relatives, no contacts, no faith…He was on his own. But at least he was alive. And to keep this status, he had no other choice but to get a few green papers from this hedgehog right here. And for that, he must use all of his charm and hustling skills. Fortunately, he had a lot of it.
(Listen here, «boss») he said, leaning down, looking eye in the eye, muzzle to muzzle at his trouble. (Let me tell you a story, you will listen, and then you will answer, if it is familiar to you: One alcoholic working on the construction site did literally nothing spending on the drinks all of the budget, selling everything that was possible to sell. And oopsie number one-superiors demand a complete facility…oopsie number two - you fucked up all of the materials and oopsie number threesie-you will be fired if you will not end till the deadline, and now you are convulsively searching for the cheapest variant to save your own money…is that familiar?)
Nick straightened up, and continued, not bothering to hear the answer. Because he knew the answer. «В таком случае у тебя два варианта: Продолжить свои тщетные поиски в надежде найти что то столь же выгодное,обламываясь, и прощаясь с работой…» (Anyway, you had two options: Try to find more profitable offer, that you won't find, and say «Bye-bye» to your work) he placed both paws on front of him, like in the «Matrix» movie, and now he shaked his other paw, «offering» another way. «Или ты просто покупаешь всё у меня-все довольны, все в плюсе» (Or you just buy it from me, and both of us are satisfied)
Hedgehog just gulped, terrified, and after another look at the green glassy and emotionless eyes, took out his wallet and started counting money. Nick took the cash, now smirking wide. It was much simplier than he expected, and he knew that today he will sleep under the roof. What will come tomorrow…he would see.
As for now, he just walked down the street pointlessly. Of course he still had a lot to do, for example find a place to sleep through the night…but he wasn't in a mood right now, and he still had a lot of time, so why should he bother?
He just wandered here and there around the city watching the cites, visited an eatery somewhere at the center only to keep wander in attempt to find quiet and cozy place. And while his body was on autopilot, his mind was somewhere out of this planet. He tried to remember good old times, but feeling of unavoidable danger ripped his soul, and memories of last few month flooded his mind.
Nickolai Dikarev was a perfect example of a «Sly lying untrustworthy fox». And he was literally perfect. If there was something that he remembered from his childhood, that was one simple lesson: «Take money for things that you do perfect».And he did. There was nothing that said about legality of this actions.
«Коля, это ты? Заходи, что ты как не родной» (Nick, is that you? Come in, don't be afraid) said a thin voice through the door, and Nick quickly sneaked in, climbing on the chair in front of a large polar bear…and his boss in the chair in the paw of the said bear. «Коленька…ты мне сослужил хорошую службу. Без тебя я бы возможно даже не сидел где я сижу…но есть у меня к тебе последняя просьба. Обещаю, отпущу тебя, и больше мы с тобой не пересечёмся, а матери твоей я помогу, не останусь в долгу.» (Nicky…you did a pretty good job of helping me. Without you I would have so much troubles…but I have one more case. I promise that you will be absolutely free and you will never see me again, and of course I will help your mother, don't worry about it) said a small arctic shrew, tapping on the ash-pot with his cigarette, making everybody in the room shiver from the sudden feeling of threat. Even blind and deaf could tell that the small mammals were very upset with something
«Ладно, давай к делу…как обычно, у тебя лишь одна задача-узнать у нужных людей нужную информацию, в данном случае-о редкой запрещённой ткани,нужной мне…по личным причинам» (Anyway, let's get to business…there's nothing new for you, just be in right place at the right time. And this time will be about a very rare prohibited fabrics…that I need for personal reasons). The Polar Bear handed a small file with a few pictures of mammals and dossier for them. «Здесь всё что тебе нужно знать про них. На подготовку у тебя весь этот день…» (There's all that you need to know about them. You got today for preparation…)
(Sorry, but)
(I know, it's too little time…but I trust you. If you weren't ready I won't trust you a thing that's so important to me. But for now, Nicholas, I have another things to do. I got my mother's funeral tomorrow. Good luck. You will need it.)
«Мои соболезнования» (My condolences). Shrew just simply nodded, and now tense Nick left the room. He still needed to prepair for his last mission on the edge of the law. Of course, he was balancing on the blade for his whole life, but when you work on Ex-General that now is a mob boss…this is another level. And he didn't like this risk at all. He just wanted to help his mom get a normal work and get out of this mess as soon as possible. And this was a perfect opportunity.
For an English speaking readers, that's an example of how I would write a direct speech. You can offer tour own variants, but for now you would see both russian and english language. Anyway, see you soon.
