The Informer
Fifth chapter

What was the point on giving up your heart if the pain stayed? She had tried to overcome it, the loses and the damages the War had bring upon them all. She had almost become mad due to the pain being too much to bare. Kate was still here though, she survived. The pain was still there, she had learnt how to live with it. When she had met with the Strawhats, all the suffering had started to be more painful and difficult to hide away. Kate had reached her breaking point by losing some else. She didn't know the little girl well, only meeting her hours ago. She had pledge to protect her the moment she had figured out who Tama was and hoped to see her becoming someone strong and proud. In over six hours Kate had found a light and had seen it was trying to keep herself together, thinking about the others that needed her help but, she had been put down once more, being blamed for everything that she had lost.

In split seconds the woman had seen everything she had ever loved been taken away from her, again, reliving the traumatic events in her life. She didn't know how she managed not to cut the navigator's throat. She found it funny that it hadn't even bothered her that much, hearing being portrated as the bad guy. She had already heard the whole speeches the redhead had done. The thoughts weren't new for her, but hearing it out loud was still difficult. Kate was a proud person, she knew what were her flaws and kept her head high no matter what. She had learnt not to show that you were hurt or people would take you down without thinking twice. She was someone you could count on if she trusted you enough. Kate wasn't giving her trust that easily, to anyone. She was proud and knew what she stood for. At a time she would not let people speaki ill of her, even if she was in the wrong. Today, Kate hadn't. She was so done with everything. She had nothing or no one, she was alone and she had nothing to fight for. She wanted to be left in peace and drink until passing out cold.

When she had left the group she had walked for a good hour before to stop at a restaurant in a town rather far from the mountain. She entered, took a table and ordered sake. The waitress had been shocked to being asked for the bottles only, no glass. Four hours was the time it took for Kate to fall asleep on the table. It took one hour for the waitress to worry and two more for Kate to wake up before closure. She walked a little in the street, sat down near a river and fell asleep again. Kate begin Kate, she had not pay for three more bottles she took from the bar, she had been taught well afterall. Kate was drunk but not out of her mind. While dozing off she was whispering lyrics, as if she was singing herself to sleep. The next day around noon, Kate woke up.

The world was spinning, the light too bright and the noise too loud. She had crawled to the river as best as she could before to put some water on her face, she drunk some too, trying to stop the aching in her body. She sat down her feet in the water, making the cold relax her and tried to reach for a bottle behind her. When she finally succeed after laying and stretching as far as she could, she couldn't open the bottle, to weak and tired to do so. She was started to get frustrated and picked out a rock, smashing the top of the bottle. She carefully threw the piece of glass away from her and started drinking. Of course she cut herself on the lips, so she turn the bottle where it was less sharped and continued drinking. After ten swallow she put the bottle down and looked around, trying to figure where she was and what had happened. She stayed without moving for twenty minutes, remembering the day before. She looked at the river, the trees, the skies, drinking a bit from time to time. It only after forty minutes that she realized that something was wrong, really wrong. She had stood up after three tries, letting her bottle fall down on the ground, spilling the rest of her sake and started walking to the bar she was last night.

Her legs were weak, Kate was having trouble caring herself up. In fact, her whole body was shaking and her vision blurred a few time before she decided to sat in the shadow of a shop. She took heavy breath, sweating. She put her shaking hands on her forehead and cursed herself for being that stupid. She lay her head on the wall, letting her arms fell on her legs. She had closed her eyes and thought about what to do. She knew that she had to ask for some special tea but she hadn't memorized the name of it. The people around would not helped her, they were as sick as her for the most part or poorer and mustn't have any medicine. She wasn't in a state to walk to the next town and to look for the lady that had helped Tama, it was too far and she was too weak. With the amount of water she had drunk from the poison river, Kate estimated her death in fourteen hours, ten before she lose her strengths completely, seven before she passed out, four before she started hallucinating and one before the fever kicked harder. Her only chance was to find a doctor but who was she kidding, the chance she had to found one was so little and the only two she knew weren't around and would probably not helped her. So, after a while Kate decided that she would finally die from poison and she was okay with that.

Kate had thought about her death to many time these past years and had decided to welcome it like an old friends when the time will come. She would fight to stay alive during battle but, if she saw no point or had no escaped plan, she would faith be it. She had thought about ending her life too, taking control of it. Something strange had crossed her mind had that time. It had been three month after the War and Kate didn't thought about living anymore. She had nothing else to do. Yet, even thought she wasn't a believer, she thought that if it was to be an after life, she wouldn't want to be welcome by the people in the other side after ending her own life when their had been taken away from them. It would be selfish of her, she had to respect them by living as much as faith wanted her to. Kate decided that two years more was well enough but Faith was a bitch. Two hours later, Kate who hadn't moved of her spot cursed to herself when she heard steps approaching her, rapidly followed by some screaming and some people running. She hadn't recognized the voices but the chaos around her was familiar. She felt someone slowly tapping her cheeks, checking her pulse and taking her temperature. She opened her eyes as cold hands met with her warm forehead.

"The hallucination arrived sooner" She giggled with herself. The three men around her and the bear didn't understand a word she had said. The surgeon had kneel before to woman, trying to figure what had happened to her. He noticed that she was looking over his shoulder, a small smile on her face before to vanish into unconsciousness again. He quickly turned his head but nothing was there. He sight when he looked back at her.

"Bepo, carry her." He ordered. She groaned a little being moved before to open her eyes again, looking more awake than before. She looked almost scared as if she had just woken up from an nightmare.

"La…Law?" Kate looked around her eyes fading away from time to time before to focus again on the surgeon. "No…you…you can't…I'm supposed to die." She complained trying to leave Bepo's arms, barly able to move correctly by herself. The bear struggled to keep her still as she start to punch hhim and let her. Her feet touched the ground first but her strength didn't kept her standing for long. She thought she was going to meet with the ground but the surgeon met her before, holding her forearms in his hands, trying to maintain her balanced. She focus on his hands for a few seconds without moving before to look up as if she had heard a sound. Her head turned everywhere, searching for something. Her breath was hard and loud, she was sweating and she could barely keep her eyes open.

"Kate…what happened to you?" He asked her as she kept looking around before to stop, her eyes focused on something right behind him. He turned ready to see someone right over his shoulder but, nothing. He looked at her, he couldn't believe how she could still be up seeing her state.

"Tell me!" He said a little bit angry, shaking her to make her react. She jumped a little before to finally look at him in the eyes. She blinked a few time, as if she was only remarking his presence.

"Law…?" She asked, making a step back to not fall. He hold her arms tighter, making her stay still. She looked at him before to turn her head to his crew. "You are here too guys…" She said a small smile on her face. She laughed a bit before to focus once again on something behind the surgeon who was becoming more worried about her state.

"Kate focus on me!" The surgeon forced her look at him, making her lose her smile a bit. "What did you do? What happened?" She opened her mouth to respond before to shut it, shaking her head, whispering inaudible things to herslef. He asked her again, a little bit more softly.

"If…If I tell you you're going to…save me and…"She tried to explain, butting on some words or murmured some, her eyes going from the surgeon to the thing she was focusing behind him. " Let me die." She stopped talking right after that. The surgeon had looked at his crew wondering if he had correctly heard the woman. When he looked at her again she was shaking her head while whispering something not understandable. She closed her eyes, still shaking her head before to put her hands on Law shoulders. She took a step forward, taking balance on him to walk. He watched her walked beside him, stopping right at his left, looking at the empty path they were in.

"I'm sorry…" She said, tears in her eyes. "I am so sorry…" She ducked her head a little, still crying. The surgeon who thought she was about to collapsed on herself quickly put his arms around her, keeping her up. After a few seconds he saw her smile through her tears. She looked up once more, still looking at something that wasn't there. She wiped her tears before to nod slowly, chuckling a bit. The surgeon was about to say something when she fell into him, he caught her better, seeing her as she started to faint again. "I've missed you." She said before to faint for good. He looked at her for a moment before to order to the bear to carry her more carefully this time. He watched as his man walked away with the woman, he followed, looking on more time behind him. There were nothing to look at or to see. A man had been standing in the way, a soft smile on his face as he watched the men leaving, carefully making sure that Kate was still breathing. He waited until he couldn't see any of them before to fade away.

The only things she could hear were voices quietly talking a few meters from her. Kate had tried to move but her body refused to cooperate with her and her eyes refused to open. She started to panic. She didn't knew what happened to her. One moment she was sitting in a dark path ready to die and now she couldn't move a muscle. She thought about being dead but it didn't seemed right. Death wouldn't look like that. She tried one last time to open her eyes but the instant she opened them a white light blinded her, making her close them again.

"Take it easy. I gave you some strong medicine." She recognized the voice. His monotone and judging voice she hated so much. She took a minutes but she finally succeed to move a little. She sat up slowly, helping herself thanks to her hands. Her left arms was killing her. She opened her eyes once more, adjusting to the light and saw him sat next to her, fixing some bandages.

"What…what the hell did you do to me?" her voice was sore. She grabbed her left arms, trying to make the pain go away by massaging it. She cracked her neck in the same time before to look around. The red hair samurai was sitting with the cook and the sniper behind the surgeon, quietly looking at her, judging. "Where am I?" He tried to check on her without saying a word. Kaye pushed his hands off her the minute he touched her. "What did you do?" She blamed him. He didn't respond and kept working, touching her again. He didn't say a word for five minutes before to be annoy by her questioning him over and over.

"i saved your life," He told her, ignoring her tone and gesture. He grabbed her left arm in his hands, trying to find from where the pain was coming from. "Again." He added as she bit her lips and closed her eyes as the pain got stronger when he touch on of her nerves. The syrgeon was looking at her as if she was a child. She hated it. He looked so angry and so done with her as if he was a father disappointed in his daughter choices. None of them talked for a moments, her to focus on hating him and him, focus on releaving the pain in her arm.

"You found me I presume?" She asked as the pain went slowly away.

"Bepo found you." She nodded slowly and said nothing more. She closed her eyes, trying to focus on what happened. Only faded imagines came back to her and nothing more. She must have been out of her mind with the fever she had, that would explain why she couldn't remember much. Her arm finally free from his hands, she moved it a bit, feeling the pain got more bareable.

"Thank you." The surgeon checked her fever and the cut on her lips before to stand.

"Do nothing and rest." He ordered her knowing that she won't do it. "Do you remember what happened?" She shook her head before to look down. She knew that something happened but she could remember what. "I supposed the hallucination might have been strong."

"Did I do something?" He looked down at her for a moment before to say no. "How long was I out?"

"A day." He said before join the others, letting her rest. Kate took her time to think before to fall asleep for a few minutes. When she woke up again, she decided to join the others. She hadn't even sat down than the cook had already put a bowl of soup into her hands, making sure she was gaining strenght. She slowly smiled at him as a thanks and started eating. She spend the next hour eating and listening to what happened to the others while she was out. Apparently, the cook went into a fight and it might have been a big deal. The rest was just information here and there. She learnt that they were plaining on getting Luffy out of prison. They hadn't killed him after all.

"Should I go and look for the swordsman?" Kate asked once her food and tea finished, feeling much better.

"Don't bother with that moss head." Responded the cook.

"For the time being you have nothing to do expect wait. The others are dealing with it." Said the surgeon a little harsh.

"And Luffy? Who's getting him out?" Asked Kate. "Should I go helped them?" The cook and the sniper looked at each other, surprised to hear her asked that.

"No." Responded the surgeon firmly, his eyes hide by his hat, arms crossed. "People are dealing with it. You have nothing to do but stay still."

"But I…"

"If you think I'll let you wonder off by yourself after what you did yesterday your wrong. For now on you will go anywhere alone." The surgeon almost shouted to the young woman. The snipper had tensed immediately, swallowing loudly.

"Who do you think you are ordering me around. I thought I made myself clear the other day." The looked he gave her would have made anyone understand that the next sentence or movement made would ended up badly. Trafalger D. Water Law was done playing around with the woman, and he was also done letting her do as she pleased. The situation had became to serious to let her wonder around and risk her life, their life. No matter how much he wanted to chop her and open her up to play with her inside, she was needed and they could not allow to lose someone like her a few days before the battle. But Kate, no matter the shape she was in, would not listen to anyone. And especially not him. Kate hadn't made a step that the surgeon appeared before her, grabbing her left arm, making her nerves ache once again, forcing her to sat back down.

"Sit. I'm tired to save your life." She took of his hands from her arm quickly, staying on her two feet.

"Then don't. I never ask you too." She yelled at him when he stopped her again from walking away. It was easy to forget with the way the surgeon was fighting but, he was really tall and strongly built. It would be easy for him to have the strong hand on Kate, who was a average size woman.

"That is precisely the problem Kate." He noticed how she was looking around, trying to find a way out. Between the cook at her right corner and the surgeon, blocking her the way out, she had nowhere to go. "You have a death wish and it's not the time to fulfill it." The tone he imployed was harsh and bitter. The cook and the sniper glanced at each other. They both had trouble imagining the woman trying to end her life. She appeared as a strong and independent woman who would do everything to survive. It was true that Kate had been saved by the surgeon more than twice since they had met her, and one more time before that. Maybe he was right after all.

"I don't have a death wish!" Kate yelled at him once more, trying to push him away. The three men around could do nothing but look at the scene. The surgeon and the woman had often argue around other people but the tension had never been that heavy.
"You ask me to let you die yesterday but I suppose you don't remember that, right?" He asked her as she stood still, taken aback by his word, not able to remember what happened. "Or were you that far out of your mind than seeing your dead boyfriend hallucination made you want to join him?" Everyone noticed her arms falling at her side, not trying to move the surgeon off her way. Kate stayed silent, trying to remember desprately. She looked up at him, her eyes unfocus, trying to understand what he had just say but no memories of hers wanted to came back to prove that he was right. He lower his head, cursing a bit before to look at her again.

"What did I say?" She asked, her voice breaking at the last word. She had heard him correctly the first time but, she couldn't understand. In fact, everyone in the room had perfectly hear the surgeon. The sniper had even opened his mouth in disbelief. That moment prove to the cook that the navigator had been right. They didn't know anything about her or her motivation.

"You kept looking in the void. Talking to yourself or someone that wasn't there. It wasn't hard to figure out who you saw." He explained carefully watching her afraid to see her breakdown or worst. No matter how he hated her right now, he knew that it was a sensible subject for her. He knew too much to not care, that was the problem.

"…How…you said that nothing happened." Crossing her arms on her chest, the anger took the lead on her emotion. The tension had rise the second she had spoken, blaming him. The three men still sat down looked at each other and silently agreed that it was their cue to leave the room. Not that they didn't want to know what happened but they didn't want to be caught in the fight that would probably happened between Kate and the surgeon. They slowly walked out of the room without disturbing them the slightest. Once the door a shut behind them they immediately stood next to the window, knowing that they would be able to hear everything from there.

"You were out of your mind." The surgeon explained. "I can't let you go out alone."

"What happened Law?" She asked once again, her temper not improving. He had noticed the shaking of her hands, trying to keep herself from breaking down, keeing control of her emotion. He took a few step back, putting space between them. Seeing that he was avoiding the question Kate asked again, a little bit louder. She took a step toward him, almost yelling this time. He looked her way before to look up at the ceiling, letting a sight escape his lips. "What happened? Answer me!" She yelled at him, picking up the bowl she had eaten in to throw it at him. She let out a sob out before to catch herself from letting another one out. He understodd how the anger wasn't the reason of her reaction. In fact, the emotion he took from anger wasn't that at all. Kate was scared.

"You kept murmuring things to yourself." He started hoping that his explaination would calm her down. "You must have been talking to him. From what we heard, you apologized and said that you've missed him." He explained, his voice becoming more quiet. Kate were passing on herself by now, trying to remember desperately. She had saw him and she could not remember a thing. "Kate, it wasn't him." The surgeon added, making a step toward her carefully, acknowledging her state of despair. "Your brain tricked you." He clarified.

"How do you know?" She yelled at him panicked, her breath becoming louder and irregular as she stopped walking. Her hands were playing her hair before were now around her neck, ferneticly massaging the skin from her hair line to her collar bone, stopping fron time to time in the middle of her chest. Her skin was starting to become redish and her breathing got suddenly walked to her, gently grabbing her hands into his. He did it hesitant at first but, she immeditely looked at him, trying to recover to a normal breathing. He helped her for a moment, breathing slowly with her. Each breath were hard for Kate, making her tremble more. At some point, the surgeon noticed her eyes watering as her breathing got better. She was losing it. So, he did something that even surprised him. He took her in his arms and hugged her. She froze at the gesture. He wasn't sure what to do. Was he supposed to let go of her or was she the one who was to move away? He could fell her shaking into his arms so, he figured that he had to stay a bit more, letting her the time she needed to calm herself down.

"Kate?" He asked softly, trying to have her attention. "You were smiling." The woman look up at him, some tears had fallen on her cheeks. "Even though you were apologizing, you were smiling. You smiled." He saw her eyes filling with water once more, knowing that it was the breaking point for her after the last 48 hours. "I don't know what he said to you but, it must have been something good or you wouldn't have smiled. Stop torturing yourself. Even if you were delirious and can't remembered." Kate couldn't hold back her tears anymore. "It's alright." He awkwardly said to her as she cried into his arms. He stayed without moving for a few minutes before to let her move away from him. She passed her hands on her face, weeping some tears away before to take a deep breath, recomposing herself as if nothing had ever happened.

"You really think it was him?" She asked after a moment, her voice breaking a bit.

"Unless you had another lover." He said, hoping to make her smile a bit. She didn't but he saw a slight movement on her lips. "You should rest for the day." He said before to walk to the door, letting her a time for herself.

"Law," She called before he walked out. "I don't have a death wish. I just know when I have to fight or not." He nodded slowly before to walk out. Once out, he took a deep breath, hating to have witness her breaking. Him who had secretly wish to never see the woman again in his life after saving her after the war. Not only he hadn't been able to chase the memories of those two weeks out of his mind but he had now more to add to her medical files.

Something was happening. Something wasn't right. Something didn't felt right. Was it just the previous events the day before that was messing with her mind? Was she just upset about the whole thing? Was it that she had been vulnerable around people that could use it against her? Kate didn't know what was real or not but one thing was clear, if the navigator of the Strawhats looked at her side way one more time another problem would be added to the list. Since they had been join by others people a few hours ago the tension had built up again. The red hair had been about to make a comment on Kate being here, but, thanks to the sniper the situation had been avoid. Kate wasn't in a mood to let the greedy girl have it her way. She had been listening to the event that took place while she was out and she couldn't see a good outcome for them. The news of the rebels being arrested hadn't bring so much hope either. The things that blew up was when the surgeon crew had been arrested. The old lady that had been introduce as a ninja, Kate hadn't bother to learn her name since she didn't seemed as a power assets of their team, as started to critic the crew loyalty toward the team. But what had really set the surgeon off had been when she had suggested to kill them, implying that they had/would talked and that they needed to die in order to maintain the secret of the operation. Kate had been surprise to not see the lady being cut into piece when she had said this, not that the surgeon hadn't thought of that but he had more urgent things to deal with.

"Wait! You can't go rescue them!" Said the navigator. The surgeon angrily explained that nothing matter except his crew well being. Kate understood him. She would do anything for her crew if she had one. A crew was like a family and you would do anything for family, even to jeopardize a plan to overthrown a shogun in a foreign country that had to happen soon. Kate understood him and knew that if he put his mind to it nothing would stop him. So, from her sitting place against the wall a little bit back from the others, Kate spoke for the first time since they arrived.

"I agree." She simply said, still her head up to the celling. She ducked her head to face the other who had been a little surprised to hear her talk. She had looked at the surgeon, ready to leave and to save his only family.

"This is not the time you…" Started to argue the navigator, pissed.

"Don't ever dare to insult me, not when I agree with you." Kate responded without letting her finish. She stood up, passed the navigator and the ninja before to stand up in front of the surgeon. " You can't go and save them like that. You will put everything at risk and you are needed." She said to him, seeing that he would go anyway. She sight before to say: "I'll go." She heard the other people freaking out but she didn't even looked back. "Or at least, let me come with you." He looked at her, visibly still in rage after the ninja words but she noticed him nodded a bit before to turn his back. He walked away without a last word. Kate rolled her eyes as his dramatic exit before to turn to the cook. "We keep in touch."

"Try to stay hidden." He replied.

"I try my best to keep him as unnoticed as possible." She said before to walk after him. Of course, he hadn't waited for her.

Kate had never caught up with the surgeon. Not that she wasn't able to find him but something more important came up and she had to stop herself. One of the samurai had called in an hurry, reporting on the last ally they gain and some other problematic news. The man about to be executed was one of their ally and one of the most important one. She hadn't even had the time to run to the others to explain who the man was when she bumped into them, already aware and going to stop it. At the instant, something had bugged Kate when she had seen the red hair samurai looking at the screen transmitting the execution. She had not known what it was so she moved on, walking to the city too. When she had arrived the man was already dead and a fight was happening between the Strawhats and the shogun's men. From what she learnt the swordsman had attack the shogun and almost killed him. She had ran into a lady too, she was afraid and out of breath, always looking behind her. Kate told her to stay near her while the swordsman was staring at a blue haired samurai.

"Who is he?" She asked before to be attacked by some ninjas. Kate had pushed the lady behind her and took out her knives. At her surprised the swordsman arrived of nowhere and took the lady in his arms before to run away, not even noticing Kate. She saw the samurai looking at them as well before to put back his sword away, locking eyes with Kate. Something wasn't right, she knew it. Why a man like him, working for the shogun, was letting someone who tried to kill his boss getting away when he could easily take him and run after them. Kate had moved a bit, her knives still out, putting herself between the man and the road. He looked at her amused before to look around him, he bowed slightly to her before to go. Kate watched him without moving before to put back her knives once she was sure anyone would attack her.

She arrived at the town a little bit after the other, not being chase after letting her the time to do some digging on the man, asking around some questions. She saw the navigator talking to the surgeon crew. She was almost glad to see the bear and the two other strange men alright as the all crew. She didn't caught their conversation but she noticed how worried they all were. She waited for the navigator to leave before to step closer. The bear was almost tearing up, blaming themselves and praising their captain when they took notice of her.

"Glad to see that you hadn't snitch." She said to them before to lock eyes with the bear. She didn't pay attention to the reply of the crew, she knew that they didn't like her much so why bother. She stood in front of the bear who was trying to avoid her glaring at him.

"We, Heart Pirate, are the most loyal pirate at sea." The bear said confidentt. Kate nodded at him, knowing what kind of crew they were before to look around a bit, noticing the strange sensation of discomfort and fear around them.

"Where is your captain?" She simply asked. She was sure that it was the same question the navigator had asked a minute ago but she wanted to hear the respond from them.

"He had something to see in town." Responded on guy on the crew.

"I asked your first mate." Kate immediately replied, bitter. They all looked at her dark eyes getting softer when she looked at the bear again. "Where is he?" Bepo started to sweat and turn his head away from her repeating what his crewmate had said. "Bepo, where is Law?" She asked quietly but harsh. The bear looked at the rest of the crew, biting his lips.

"He told you already, leave him alone you witch!"

"Bepo." She said again hard. "What happened to Law?" It took a few second to the bear before to break.

"He gave himself for us! What a brave captain he is!" The bear cried a bit.

"What happened ?" Kate asked Satchi, putting a hand on the bear shoulders, comforting him a bit by petting him.

"He came to rescue us. He would have but…"

"Hawkins, he tricked the captain." Cut one man seeing that his mate didn't want to say it. Kate remembered crossing his path earlier. She had been focus on helping Tama at the time but she had caught how his power works. "We told the captain to fight him anyway." Kate nodded at them before to look at the bear.

"What do you want to do?" She asked him.

"The live of our captain his more important that some plan. We save the captain!" He yelled quickly following by the other.

"You know that he gave himself in because he wanted to, right?" She saw some of the crew nodding at her. "Okay, let's go." She said to them.

"Wait…what?!"

"You're coming?!"

"Why?!"

Kate had turn to look at them with a smirk on her face, enjoying this moment a little too much. The truth was that Kate didn't want to rescue the surgeon because she had a det for him saving her life again, but because the thought of him probably chained up with sea stone and beating up was giving her some joy. Joy that had disappeared the moment she had lay eyes on him casually talking with Hawking, threaten by his sword. She had even started to pout when none of them had noticed her presence in the room. They kept talking about the alliance that had put Kid in jail and the other under the control of Kaido. She had even started to write some information down when something caught her attention.

"You are wrong." The both men had been taken back by the feminine voice interrupting them. The surgeon had even create a room in case he had to fight. But, when he noticed Kate rolling her eyes at him after his reaction he sight, relaxing a little.

"What are you doing here?" He simply asked her as she stayed near the cell door.

"Well, you're crew think highly of you so I decided to help them. Infiltration aren't their strong suit, especially with a bear." He sighted once more. "And, to be fair, I just wanted to see you chained up to a wall and bleeding." Hawking, who was still in bad shape and bleeding, looked at the strange exchange before him, wondering what was happening.

"A new ally I imagine?" He asked the surgeon, hiding his pain.

"More or less."

"More or less." Kate repeated. "I am the only reason this alliance can work!"

"You think a little to much of yourself." Smirked the surgeon.

"Oh really? So tell me, who is the fucking traitor in our rank? Or who is being a good dog for the shogun while waiting to strike him? Or even more, tell me who fucking helped you overthrowing that bastard of pink flamingo and saved your life. Because if you think that I'm not that important tell me what the fuck I'm doing here, risking my life for stupid idiots like you. I should chained you up myself and go ask Kaido for a job." She picked up something on the ground and throw it at him. "I swear to you Law, if you ever say something like that again I kill you."

"Who is it?"

"The redhead." She said in a sight, laying on the wall behind her.

"That is why she tried to attack you back at…"He hadn't finish his sentence that he had to avoid another piece of metal thrown at him. "Stop doing that!"

"Stop being a dumbass then." She immediately responded. "Nami hates me because she doesn't trust me and think that I want their death but, that's not her."

"That can not be good. Did you inform the other? If you did he might…"

"Seriously…are you going to ask me that?" She said grabbing another piece of metal ready to throw it at the surgeon.

"Don't." He said to her, threatening her too. They looked at each other for a moment, daring one another.

"And I thought that my alliance was bad." Chimed Hawking putting the wrath of the two on himself. He may had been able to avoid the piece of metal but not the attack from Law. After a few minutes the surgeon turn to Kate once more, continuing their conversation.

"Do you know why?"

"Is it really important to know why? He is, end of the story."

"And the other one?"
"He will be an asset for sure. But I can tell you who, the rats had ears." She said, looking at the blond man in bad shape. They stopped talking for a while, the surgeon visibly thinking about the new informations she had just gave him and her, looking at the man bleeding almost to death. She knew that he had to kill him, he knew to much and he was annoying. She wondered if the surgeon was planning to do it himself or to let the man die through his wounds.

"You…You are the informer, right?" The blond asked.

"No." she responded.

"No, you are. You are the one who sold countries to pirates."

"I didn't sold countries. No one is that powerful." She rectified not taking her eyes off him. She knew that she was known in the sea for her work. People were often looking for her when they had an attack planed. She was often found by pirates, asking for a help. She often took down the offers if she had nothing to gain or know that they can't pay, but they oftencame back with a better offer. Money wasn't the payment that she was looking for, it was more protection or traveling arrangement and loyalty. Rare were the people who tried to kill her, especially since she was always selling proper information that always benefit the client one way or another. If she liked the person enough she even offered a plan or give away another info as a bonus.

She had started in her teens, selling plans to overthrown people, not countries. And yes, she might have had a rough past and dealt with the wrong people to beginning with but she had ended it a long time ago. People coming to her with a plan like that now were often taken down and they never bothered her again if she refused. Sometimes, just for fun, she had played on both team to see what will happened. She had made enemies but it was no one to be afraid of.

"But you did. And you sold people too, right? That is why you said that you should ask Kaido for a job. Someone like you always had a plan if things turn out wrong. You must have think this through. You know that if your alliance went down you would be safe." He said, a faint smile on his face. Kate had never liked Hawking, he thought to much of himself. His remark proved her that even at Death's door he still thought that he was in control of the situation in a way.

"What is your point. Anyone sain would have a back up plan. He must have a back up plan too." She looked at the surgeon who was carefully listen to them. He didn't respond but they all knew that he had a plan too. People like them always did, no matter what. They were the type off people who had run and hide for a long time, they always knew that they needed several plans in order to survive. Especially while working with the Strawhat Pirate.

"I wonder...What kind of information do you have that could interest Kaido." Not expecting an answer he watched her walking to them, not taking her eyes off him, a smirk on her face. She kneeled before him, her eyes wondering on his injured body before to quickly put her hand into the wound on his stomach. He tensed immediately, holding back a scream. She twisted her hand a little before to take it out off him, letting the blood ran on her fingers.

"I get why you played with him a little." She said to the surgeon who still hadn't move from his sit. She heard the blond man coughed, trying to laugh. A laugh that had only for mission to piss her off.

"I know….You…You are going to…sell them all out…" He said painfully. "Him…the strawhats…the samurais…"

"And why would I do that?" She asked him. "Why would you think that it's my masterplan?"

"Because…you don't stay around people too long…never…only if you plan to do something about them…" Kate could feel the surgeon eyes on her, wondering if it was true. "You sold people before. Why would you keep them safe?" She moved her hand, showing the surgeon not to interupe, things he was about to do. Her bloody hands moving toward him quickly, almost to his mouth, proventing him to make a sound.

"Why wouldn't I?" She asked the blond, who was enjoying the situation a little bit to much for the state he was in.

"They are more valuable to you sold out to Kaido than alive in an alliance. They brought you problems after problems and you didn't even get paid. You know that you are going to died because of them, no matter what. So you decided to sell them out before they get you kill." He said, blood coming out of his mouth more and more as he spoke. She didn't respond immediately, probably thinking about how to reply to him after he exposed her. That what he thought. But, she slowly approach of him, getting close of his head to look him in the eyes, almost touching him. He felt the knife slowly touching his stomach, ready to rip him open at any second.

"You think that you have figure everything out don't you?" She asked him. "Knowing that you are going to die in the ignorance of the truth comfort me a little." She said with a smile.

"Don't kill him." Said the surgeon as she was about to end it. "We still need him." She stayed still, eyeing the blond and the surgeon back to back before to stand up.

"You are lucky blondie." She said, cleaning the blood on her knife.

"What….what is your…why?"

"You were right when you said that I have, indeed, something for Kaido." She stated, knowing that the surgeon needed to be reassure on her intension. "I thought about selling them out. And I don't plan to do it. I trust them more than I would ever trust someone like Kaido. Yonko can't be trust, most of them anyway."

"What is it then?" Hawking asked totally lost and taken aback.

"I am good at my job because people doesn't know what kind of information I have. When they came to see me, they don't know if I have what they are lookng for. So, even if I could tell you, I won't blondie but trust me, even Kaido would not refuse my help."

Much later, in a submarine, making its way to the meeting point, the surgeon had asked if she had told the truth. Not that he doubted her words, Kate was an honest person but, he couldn't help but be a bit worried about his crew, not trusting the woman completely.

"I don't lie Law."
