SmackDown: 5/10/2000
SmackDown was live at the Baltimore Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. The show opened with six-person tag team action, as Jacqueline and Lo Down took on Lita and the Hardy Boyz. The Women's Champion and Tag Team Champions whipped the Baltimore crowd into a frenzy with their high-flying moves. It seemed that they would pick up the win after Lita hit Jackie with a moonsault, but D'Lo snuck into the ring and nailed Lita with a Sky Hi, allowing Jackie to score the pin.
Saying he wanted a birds-eye view of the title which represented his homeland, William Regal came to ringside to provide commentary for the European Championship match between champion Al Snow and X-Pac. Regal was appalled that Snow came to ringside representing Transylvania, complete with a Dracula costume, a framed picture of Eddie Munster, and a box of Count Chocula cereal! "Willy" was so enraged that he tried interjecting himself into the match once the action spilled outside the ring. But Regal's interference actually helped Snow to retain his title, because once the referee went to break up the melee outside the ring, Billy Gunn ran to the ring and gave X-Pac a fame-asser! X-Pac was then easy pickings for a pinfall!
Eagerly awaiting Stone Cold Steve Austin's arrival at the arena, Commissioner Mick Foley opened the door of an arriving limousine expecting it to be the Rattlesnake. Foley then walked away in disappointment when it instead turned out to be Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley.
In six-man tag team action, the Right to Censor (Val Venis, Bull Buchanan and the Goodfather) took on Eddie Guerrero and the Acolytes. Eddie was accompanied to the ring by Chyna, while the Right to Censor was led by Steven Richards. The match ended when Eddie Guerrero attempted a flying bodypress, only to have the Goodfather reverse it for the pin. After the match, Chyna kicked Steven's butt.
Triple H seemed surprised to see his wife arrive at the arena, since he had told her to stay back at the hotel. He told Stephanie that she was trouble at ringside, and that she had cost him the No. 1 contender match on RAW. Stephanie fired back, saying that it was Benoit, not her, who cost him the match and the title shot at No Mercy. The Game then said he wanted to separate his business and personal lives, and said that while he still loved Stephanie, she was not to come to ringside during his matches anymore. He called his wife a liability. A teary-eyed Stephanie walked out of the locker room.
Next up, Raven and Tazz took on the Dudley Boyz. Prior to the match, Raven ripped on the Baltimore Ravens, saying that they were a third-rate sports team hanging onto his coattails. The ring bell soon came into play, as Tazz brought it into the ring to use as a foreign object. But the referee didn't see the action until Buh Buh Ray used the bell, giving Raven and Tazz a disqualification win. After the match, however, the Dudleys got even, putting Raven through a table!
Stephanie was about to leave the Baltimore Arena, but she stopped just as she was getting into her limo. It seemed like she didn't want to leave.
Knowing that Stone Cold Steve Austin had arrived at the arena just minutes earlier, Commissioner Mick Foley headed to the ring surrounded by several police officers. The commish called out the Rattlesnake and said that he had been enjoying his commissioner job, until Austin had come back to make his life a living hell. Austin said that Foley's hell was nothing compared to the 10 months of hell he had gone through while convalescing from his injury. Foley said that he had to make an unpopular decision, specifically to suspend Austin indefinitely until his attacker was found. Stone Cold gave Foley a chance to reconsider, but when the commish refused, Austin stunned him!
In six-man action, Too Cool and Rikishi faced off with Kurt Angle, Edge & Christian. Prior to the match, Kurt talked about the roll he has been on lately - specifically, his pinfall wins over The Rock and Triple H. He compared his streak to that of Baltimore's own Cal Ripken, but said that unlike Ripken's streak, his streak actually meant something! During the match, Scotty 2 Hotty nailed the Worm, and Rikishi hit the Stink Face on Angle. But when Grand Master Sexay went for the Hip Hop Drop, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley ran to the ring and pushed him off the top rope! Sexay was then easy prey for the Olympic Slam and a pin by Angle!
Stephanie then returned to the McMahon/Helmsley locker room to find her husband irate at her helping Kurt Angle. Stephanie confronted the Game, saying that she was a McMahon, that she was born into the business, and she knew just as much about the business as he did, if not more. That's why she helped Kurt, she said – to show him so. Triple H then said that she could have been hurt, and Stephanie said that the only thing hurting her was him. She then walked out.
Next up was the Bladewolf vs Steve Blackman for the WWF Hardcore Championship.
OOOOOOWHOOOOOO!
Dead Silent plays to a pop from the fans as smoke fills the stage, the lights dimming to a familiar sinister blood red and dark blue. Trish is standing on the stage in a dark robe, dressed in a black leather dress that stopped at her thighs, giving a great view of her legs as well as her cleavage, and wore a black cowgirl hat, before the Bladewolf walks out, the Intercontinental Championship around his waist, and stands in front of her, facing the ring with a dark glare on his face.
Trish takes the robe off, then walks around him, running a hand seductively across his shoulders as she walks forward to the ring while singing.
"He is time... famine, war... pestilence you cannot endure..." Trish gets in the ring and seductively rubs her body against the ropes as she continues while getting more frantic by the second. "the end is here... the end is here! Fall and Pray! Fall and Pray! Fall and PRAY!"
The lights flash blood red repeatedly as Trish falls to her knees and moves out the way as Bladewolf appears in the ring, unleashing a primal yell as he stands under the flashing red lights while the songs repeats the 'fall and pray' part.
Bladewolf beats his chest in sync with the drum part of the theme and the song slowly ends as Trish slides between Bladewolf's legs and poses on her knees in front of him while her back is pressed against his knees.
The lights go to normal and Trish gets to her feet as Bladewolf takes off his coat followed by his short-sleeved shirt to reveal his ring gear underneath.
"This is going to be one heck of a fight, king." Coe said as Bladewolf takes off the Intercontinental Championship and hands it to Trish who goes to stand outside the ring just as Steve Blackman's theme hits. "Blackman vs Bladewolf for the WWF Hardcore Championship."
Blackman makes his way out, Hardcore Championship around his waist. Bladewolf stood as still as a statue as he watched the Lethal Weapon come down to the ring.
"This will be the first time Steve Blackman and the Bladewolf have been in a match, King." Cole said. "And considering how dangerous these two men are when they get their hands on weapons... I got a feeling this will get bloody soon."
"I agree with you, Cole." Jerry nodded, though he was captivated by Trish's presence. "It's gonna be a brutal fight!"
Blackman enters the ring and hands his title to the referee as his theme dies down. Blackman and Bladewolf stare each other down as the referee holds the title up, showing it's on the line, then hands it to someone at ringside before calling for the bell.
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
"And here we go." Cole said as Bladewolf and Blackman circled each other before they locke dup. "Starting it off here with a collar and elbow tie up."
They broke the hold soon enough and backed off from each other before Bladewolf struck first with a kick to Blackman's stomach, followed by a right to the forehead, then another. Bladewolf keeps up his assault until he gets Blackman in the corner and unleashes a onslaught of hard lefts and rights.
"And Bladewolf with Blackman in the corner here." Cole said before wincing as Bladewolf lands a big right to Blackman's jaw. "What a right hand!"
"Say what you will, Michael. Backman is a great wrestler." Jerry said and Cole nodded in agreement. "He culd potentially be the one to knock Bladewolf off his pedestal, and maybe convince Trish she shouldn't be with a guy like him, maybe she should be with a guy like me!"
"Oh will you stop?" Cole rolled his eyes as Jerry laughed.
Bladewolf bakcs up as Blackman tries to recover from bladewolf's assault. the Intercontinental Champion rushes for a turnbuckle clothesline, but Blackman ducks out of the way and dropkicks Bladewolf back into the corner before rebounding off the ropes and then takes Bladewolf down with a clothesline. Blackman rebounds off the ropes and hits a running elbow drop to the chest of the Bladewolf before hooking the leg but Bladewolf kicks out at two.
"Bladewolf kicked out there." Cole said as Blackman locks in a headlock. "And Blackman with a headlock. think Bladewolf is relieved Stone Cold isn't gunning for him after interrogating him a few weeks back on what happened at last year's Survivor Series?"
"I gotta say maybe." Jerry shrugged. "Bladewolf doesn't strike me as the type, as black hearted as he might be, to take someone out with a vehicle. like he said, he'd do it with his bare fists like a man."
Bladewolf fights to his feet and drives his elbow into Blackman's gut several times until Blackman let's him go, allowing Bladewolf to uppercut the Hardcore Champion, then floor him with a powerful clothesline that made Blackman flip and land on his front. Bladewolf flips his hair back before he grabs Blackman around the waist and hits a German Suplex across the ring.
"German Supelex across the ring!" Cole exclaimed. "And this is where Bladewolf gets dangerous. When he gains control of the match."
Bladewolf walks over to Blackman and brings down an elbow on his back. Bladewolf grabs Blackman by the hair and pulls him to his feet but Blackman lands a spinning heel kick, knocking the Demon Wolf off balance a bit, but it allows Blackman to attempt another only for Bladewolf to duck it, but Blackman nails him with his other leg, dropping the Intercontinental Champion on his back.
"Nice heel kick there by Blackman." Cole complimented.
Blackman stomps on Bladewolf a few times before bringing an elbow down on Bladewolf's chest. Blackman then jumps into the air and brings his elbow down on Bladewolf's chest again and hooks the leg.
"One!"
"Two-!" Bladewolf kicks out at two.
"Kick out again." Cole said.
"It takes a lot more than that to keep the Bladewolf down." Jerry said.
Blackman grabs Bladewolf and rams his head into the top turnbuckle before he starts nailing a series of lefts and rights, forcing Bladewolf to cover up so Blackman stops and backs off. Bladewolf lowers his arms only for Blackman to run and dropkick him in the chest, knocking Bladewolf back into the corner hard hard to make him bounce off the turnbuckles and fall onto his front.
"Wow!" Jerry was impressed.
"Nice dropkick." Cole nodded.
Blackman grabs Bladewolf, who then suddenly picks him up and drives him into the corner, driving his shoulde repeatedly into Blackman's stomach before pulling him close and hits a belly-to-belly suplex. Bladewolf leans on the ropes for a few seconds before saying something to Trish, causing her to look underneatht he ring.
"Trish... i think is looking for a weapon." Cole said.
"Oh no." Jerry said, knowing it's bad when Baldewolf gets his hands on a weapon.
Trish then pulls out a steel chair and hands it to Bladewolf.
"Trish with a steel chair that she has now given to Bladewolf!" Cole said as Bladewolf eyes Blackman. "And Steve Blackman may be in trouble here!"
Blackman makes it to his feet and turns around... INTO A CHAIR SHOT TO THE SKULL!
"What a chair shot! Right off the skull!" Cole exclaimed.
Blackman rolls onto his hands and knees... WHEN BLADEWOLF SMACKS THE CHAIR OFF HIS BACK!
"And right off the back!" Cole shouted.
Blackman rolls onto his back, arching it in response to the pain. Bladewolf lifts the chair... AND BRINGS IT DOWN! Bladewolf repeatedly attacks Blackman with the chair, striking anywhere he can hit on the body. Bladewolf eventually stops and backs off as Blackman struggles to make it to his feet. When he does, Blackman turns around... INTOA CHAIR SHOT OFF THE SKULL! BLACKMAN HAS BEEN BUSTED OPEN! STEVE BLACKMAN IS BLEEDING!
"Oh God!" Cole said at the sight of the blood coming down the cut on Blackman's forehead. "Steve Blackman has been cut open!"
"Eugh." Jerry made a disgusted sound. "I told you! Don't let Bladewolf hold a weapon or use it on you!"
Bladewolf drops the chair before he grabs Blackman and lifts him onto his shoulders, going for the Fury of the Wolf-! BLACKMAN REVERSES IT INTOA DDT RIGHT ON THE CHAIR!
"What a counter!" Cole exclaimed. "Bladewolf was going for the Fury pf the Wolf but Blackman reversed it into a DDT right onto the chair!"
Blackman pushes Bladewolf onto his back and hooks the leg. "One!"
"Two!"
"Thre-!"
Bbladewolf kicks out!
"Bladewolf kicks out again!" Cole shouted.
"Wow!" Jerry said.
Blackman gets to his feet and grabs the steel chair, waiting as Bladewof makes it to his feet and turns him around... AND SMACKS THE CHAIR RIGHT OFF HIS SKULL! Bladewolf doesn't fall down so Blackman drops the chair, kicks Bladewolf in the stomach... AND NAILS ANOTHER DDT ON THE CHAIR!
"What a DDT!" Cole exclaimed as Blackman hooks the legs. "Now the cover!"
"One!"
"Two!"
"Three! Ring the bell!" The referee called.
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
Blackman's theme plays as Blackman rolls off Bladewolf. "Here is your winner and STILL World Wrestling Federation Hardcore Champion... STEVE BLACKMAN!" Tony Chimel announced as the referee hands Blackman the Hardcore Championship while Trish checks on Bladewolf. The couple roll out the ring as Blackman celebrates his victory...
I wasn't having Bladewolf win EVERY match he's in.
