SmackDown: 4/1/2001
SmackDown was live at Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas. As the show began, Stone Cold Steve Austin was shown waiting in the parking area.
The first SmackDown match of the new year was Chris Benoit vs Chris Jericho! Prior to the match, Jericho promised to make the first SmackDown match of the year a memorable one. Y2J said if it wasn't for Old Lady Benoit forgetting to take her birth control pills, Benoit wouldn't be here! Benoit then interrupted Y2J and told him to follow his own advice, and to shut the hell up! Benoit said that every one of their matches was the same - Jericho came out and talked, and then the Wolverine came out and kicked Y2J's ass! He then challenged Jericho to prove him wrong.
The match between two of the World Wrestling Federation's young studs was a textbook in high-paced scientific wrestling. Jericho was able to turn Benoit into the Walls of Jericho, but Perry Saturn - Benoit's partner in the Radicalz - came down to interfere, giving Y2J the win via disqualification. As Saturn and Malenko attacked Jericho after the match, the Hardy Boyz came down to save Y2J!
Backstage, a limo pulled into the parking lot. Out of the limo walked William Regal, who looked around for a moment, and then told Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley (who he was talking to on a cell phone) that Stone Cold was nowhere to be found. But as soon as he hung up the phone, the Rattlesnake attacked Regal, knocking him onto the hood of the limo! Austin then got into the driver's seat, and - with Regal still on the hood - rammed the car into a storage area, sending the European Champion flying! Stone Cold then drilled the car into the heap again, before getting out of the car and attacking the goodwill ambassador with a pipe! Federation officials finally pulled the Rattlesnake off Regal, as the European Champion lay on the ground a bloody mess! Regal had to be stretchered out of the arena.
World Wrestling Federation Tag Team Champions Edge & Christian headed to ringside to provide commentary for the match between the Dudley Boyz and Bull Buchanan and the Goodfather of the Right to Censor, as the winners of the match would meet the champions at the Royal Rumble. Edge & Christian said that that would have no problem facing the Dudleyz, since they had already beaten them 37,742 1/2 times! Moments later, D-Von Dudley threw something at Christian, and Christian screamed, "What are you doing, you dork?" Edge then referred to the Dudley Boyz as the "Deliverance Boyz."
During the match, Michael Cole asked Edge how he felt after being put through a table on RAW is WAR by Bulletproof, and Edge asked Cole how he felt about going to the hairdresser, looking at a picture of the Backstreet Boys, and saying, "Yeah, that's what I want!" Christian laughed and added, "Vidal, can you please reekasize me? I'm not feeling 14-year-old girlish enough!"
During the match, the Dudleyz went for 3-D on the Goodfather, but Edge & Christian pulled him out of the ring. As the Right to Censor argued with Edge & Christian outside the ring, the Dudleyz hit 3-D on Bull inside the ring and won the match!
It will be Edge & Christian against the Dudley Boyz and Bulletproof in a triple threat match for the Tag Team Championship at the Royal Rumble!
In the parking area, Stone Cold was once again pacing when he was approached by Lt. Commissioner Debra. She begged Austin not to do the same thing to Stephanie that he had just done to Regal, saying that if he did, he would lose his job and his career, and he would probably go to jail. She begged him to think about his actions.
Kevin Kelly then interviewed The Rock about requesting a non-title match with Kurt Angle on SmackDown, after the Olympian cost the People's Champion a shot at the Federation Championship on RAW. The Rock said there was more than one way to get a shot at the Federation Championship - and promised to win the Royal Rumble match, earning a shot at the Federation Title at WrestleMania. The Great One then said that for one night only, he wasn't concerned with the title, or with winning or losing - he was only concerned with making Angle suffer.
As Angle made his way to the ring for that match, he said if there was one thing he couldn't stand, it was a crybaby like The Rock. He said that he was just scouting his potential opponents on RAW, and that it was Rock who touched him first. He told Rock to stop being a whiner like everyone in San Antonio. He said the people of San Antonio always said "remember the Alamo" - but they always forgot to shower, to hold a job, and to use a toothbrush! Angle then told Rock to "just bring it." Indeed, the World Wrestling Federation Champion suffered at the hands of the People's Champion - the two men even went through the commentators' table! Eventually, Rock attacked the referee, ending the bout, but the brutality didn't end, as the Great One took it to Angle with a steel chair!
Stephanie got out of the other side of the car and - as the Rattlesnake stalked her - she ran frantically into the building! With a look of terror on her face, Stephanie ran from Austin, eventually winding up on the entranceway! As she fearfully ran to ringside, the sound of broken glass filled the arena, and Stone Cold walked to ringside to confront her face to face. The Rattlesnake then threw a petrified Stephanie into the ring. He said he had warned her Monday night that he wouldn't play her games. He promised that she would learn to listen to Stone Cold.
Suddenly, "No Chance in Hell" blared in the arena, and Vince McMahon came to his daughter's aid! Vince told Austin that he was not to harm a hair on Stephanie's head - because Vince could give him what he wanted. Vince said he could rewrite the record book, giving Austin the win via disqualification - putting Stone Cold in the Triple Threat Match for the No. 1 contenders spot! He said he would do that for the Rattlesnake, as long as Austin promised not to hurt Stephanie. Vince promised Austin that if he didn't accept the offer, then he would put Austin through hell.
Stone Cold accepted Mr. McMahon's offer to compete in the Triple Threat Match, and he promised not to harm daddy's little girl. But Vince hadn't said anything about harming daddy - and the Rattlesnake gave Mr. McMahon a Stone Cold Stunner! The Rattlesnake glared at Stephanie before leaving the ring.
Moments later, Stephanie checked on her father, whose neck was in a lot of pain. Mr. McMahon told his daughter that he had decided to name a special troubleshooting referee for the Triple Threat Match, and that the referee's last name was McMahon. Stephanie was worried that it would be her, but Vince said that it would instead be him!
After the match, Billy got a hold of Ivory and was about to piledrive the Women's Champion, but Steven Richards saved her. Billy then punched out Steven!
In the locker room area, Mr. McMahon asked his daughter to get him some pain killers for his neck, and also to cut the sleeves off his referee shirt. When Stephanie returned to the locker room, she found some woman rubbing down her father's neck! The woman asked Mr. McMahon how his holidays were - and he said he had a feeling that they were the same as hers! Stephanie told the woman to get the hell out of the locker room. The woman did leave - but not before thanking Mr. McMahon for a favor.
The Bladewolf was shown in his locker room, pacing back and fourth with Trish watching him on the chair, her legs crossed. Bladewolf's pacing stopped when Kevin Kelly entered the room.
"Bladewolf, I'd like to hear your thoughts on your match tonight, as well as Vince McMahon replacing William Regal with Stone Cold Steve Austin in the match." Kevin said.
"First off, I don't give two shits about Vince McMahon." Bladewolf said with a glare, the crowd cheering at his swear. "I don't give a damn about Stone Cold Steve Austin, I don't give a damn about the Undertaker, I don't give a damn about Kane. All I care about is winning tonight and going on to face Kurt Angle next week on RAW, beating him and becoming WWF Champion for a fourth time after I had to vacate the title because of a damn injury. My plan is to win the WWF Championship and remain Intercontinental Champion, and walk into WrestleMania as WWF Champion and Intercontinental Champion, and if that doesn't work... then I have the Royal Rumble to look forward to."
"A-And what do you think about Vince McMahon being the guest referee?" Kevin asked nervously.
Trish took the microphone and spoke instead. "Then Vince McMahon had better stay out of my boyfriend's path... or else he will burn in hell."
"Fall and Pray." Bladewolf said with a smirk and Kevin soon left the locker room.
The time of the Main Event had come. The Bladewolf vs the Undertaker vs Kane vs Stone Cold Steve Austin with the winner going to face Kurt Angle next week on RAW for the World Wrestling Federation Championship.
Mr. McMahon stood at ringside as the troubleshooting referee, with Earl Hebner serving as the official inside in the ring.
The pyro exploded and Kane's theme hits and out comes the Big Red Monster.
"The following is a fatal 4-Way #1 Contender's match scheduled for one-fall!" Tony Chimel announced. "Making his way t the ring, weighing in at 326 lbs... KANE!"
"Will kane become the man to meet Kurt Angle on RAW next week for the WWF Championship?" Cole asked as kane enters the ring, raises his arms and throws them down to make fire explode from the turnbuckles before his theme dies down.
The Undertaker's theme hits next and out comes the American badass.
"And his opponent, from Houston, Texas, weighing 330 lbs... THE UNDERTAKER!" Tony Chimel announced.
"Well king, Undertaker is in the Royal Rumble match alongside Kane and the Bladewolf, unless either of these men are the World champion come the Rumble." Cole said.
The Undertaker enters the ring and Kane is staring at him with a glare, the two brothers having had their issues the previous year and it seems those issues had not dwindled easily. The Undertaker's theme soon died down.
OOOOOOWHOOOOOO!
Dead Silent plays to a pop from the fans as smoke fills the stage, the lights dimming to a familiar sinister blood red and dark blue. Trish is standing on the stage in a dark robe, dressed in a black top that gave a great view of her cleavage, wore a black leather skirt that stopped mid-thigh, giving a great view of her long legs and wore a black cowgirl hat, before the Bladewolf walks out, the Intercontinental Championship around his waist, and stands in front of her, facing the ring with a dark glare on his face.
Trish takes the robe off, then walks around him, running a hand seductively across his shoulders as she walks forward to the ring while singing.
"He is time... famine, war... pestilence you cannot endure..." Trish gets in the ring and seductively rubs her body against the ropes as she continues while getting more frantic by the second. "the end is here... the end is here! Fall and Pray! Fall and Pray! Fall and PRAY!"
The lights flash blood red repeatedly as Trish falls to her knees and moves out the way as Bladewolf appears in the ring, unleashing a primal yell as he stands under the flashing red lights while the songs repeats the 'fall and pray' part.
Bladewolf beats his chest in sync with the drum part of the theme and the song slowly ends as Trish slides between Bladewolf's legs and poses on her knees in front of him while her back is pressed against his knees.
The lights go to normal and Trish gets to her feet as Bladewolf takes off his coat followed by his short-sleeved shirt to reveal his ring gear underneath. Bladewolf takes off the Intercontinental Championship, handing it to Trish, who gets out the ring to stand at ringside.
Bladewolf stares his brothers down as he flips his hair back.
"The Bladewolf's entrance just seems to many anyone unable to speak, that's the terrifying presence he commands." Cole said.
"Like a cold chill in the air." Jerry nodded.
"And Bladewolf is looking at his brothers." Cole noted. "We heard Bladewolf's thoughts on the match and Mr. McMahon being the guest referee here. He didn't care, all he wants is to win and go beat Kurt Angle for his 4th WWF Championship, and if that doesn't work, he says he will take the Royal Rumble as his next option."
Stone Cold's theme hits to a loud pop from the fans and out comes the Texas Rattlesnake, but in the ring... KANE ATTACKS BLADEWOLF!
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
"Oh wait a minute! Kane and the Bladewolf are wasting little time here!" Cole exclaimed as the brothers slug it out while Undertaker watches. "Kane and Bladewolf slugging it out with each other, while their older brother watches them."
Bladewolf elbows Kane in the mask, causing kane to stumble into an uppercut from the Undertaker, causing kane to turn around into a clothesline from Bladewolf.
"And Bladewolf and Undertaker, working together there." Cole noted.
"What if all three of them team up on Austin? It's happened before!" Jerry said, remembering the 1998 Breakdown event.
Austin slides into the ring and attacks Undertaker, Bladewolf and Kane, hitting them with right hands.
"The rules of this match are as follows: The only way to win is by pinfall or submission. Whoever wins tonight will become #1 Contender and face Kurt Angle this monday on RAW." Cole said.
Undertaker knocks Austin back with a right hand into bladewolf who uppercuts Austin, making him stumble into Kane who gives him an uppercut as well. Bladewolf brings forearm down on Austin's back, sending the Rattlesnake down onto his knees, allowing undertaker to bring an elbow down on Austin's back. Bladewolf and Kane pick Austin up, and they irish whip him off the ropes and floor the Rattlesnake with a double clothesline.
"Look at this, the double team by Bladewolf and Kane." Cole said. "Austin is in big trouble if the brothers team up to take him out of the equation as they are doing right now." Kane then booted Undertaker in the stomach, knocked Bladewolf down with an uppercut. "Oh well, never mind."
Bladewolf gets to his feet as Undertaker fights off Kane, knocking their brother back before Undertaker goes for an irish whip only for Kane to reverse it and deliver a big boot to the face of Undertaker. kane turned only to be floored with a big boot by Bladewolf.
"Kane with a big boot to undertaker but Bladewolf delivers the same to Kane." Cole said. "Undertaker got into this match defeating Rikishi, Kane defeated the Rock thanks to Kurt Angle, and Bladewolf got into this match by defeating Chris Benoit."
Bladewolf grabs Undertaker and sends his older brother over the top rope and down to the floor, then grabs Kane and tosses him out the ring before he turns and looks to see Austin standing now s the crowd cheered loudly.
"Look at this, King." Cole said as Bladewolf and Austin circled each other. "The old rivals meet again, first time since 1999."
"this is gonna be a fight." Jerry nodded.
"Both men want to be WWF Champion again and will let nothing stand in their way." Cole said.
Bladewolf and Austin quickly began to slug it out in an exchange of fists with each other until Bladewolf knees Austin in the stomach, brings a forearm down across Austin's back and attempts a German Suplex but Austin fights back with elbows to the ide of Bladewolf's head until the Demon Wolf releases him. Austin Irish whips Bladewolf into the ropes, and takes him down with a Lou Thez Prez!
Austin goes to rebound off the ropes but is dragged out the ring by undertaker, who had been busy battling Kane outside the ring. Undertaker rams Austin's head off the steel steps and goes to do more punishment but Kane attacks his brother from behind. In the ring, Bladewolf sits up and looks to see what is happening, so he rolls out the ring and walks over just as Undertaker sends kane into the steel ring post then floors Kane with a clothesline.
Undertaker turns around into a big boot from Bladewolf, who then grabs Austin and rams his head off the ring apron, then off the barricade but Austin was quick to recover and tackle Bladewolf into the barricade corner, the two just throwing fists at each other.
"Bladewolf and Austin are just beating the hell out of each other!" Cole said as the two longtime rivals kept it up, trading punches back and fourth with each other.
Austin sends Bladewolf back into the ring and slides in after him, Irish whips him off the ropes and takes him down with the Lou Thez Prez for the second time.
"Lou Thez Prez!" Cole exclaimed.
Austin rebounds off the ropes and brings the elbow down on Bladewolf's chest and goes for the cover.
"One!"
"Two!"
"Th-!"
Bladewolf kicks out at two.
Austin gets to his feet, pulls Bladewolf to his and goes for the irish whip but Bladewolf reverses it, only to fake it and pull Austin into a hard clothesline. Bladewolf then turns around... INTOA FLYING CLOTHESLINE BY KANE FROM THE TOP TURNBUCKLE!
"Flying clothesline by Kane!" Cole exclaimed.
Kane kicks Austin out the ring and focuses on his younger brother as Undertaker is getting to his feet outside the ring. Kane elbows Bladewolf in the head, knocking the Intercontinental Champion. Bladewolf leans on the ropes as Kane keeps up the assault, causing Bladewolf to cover up before he shoves his brother back, then boots Kane in the face when he rushes at him, sending Kane to a knee. Bladeowlf then lifts Kane up onto his shoulders, only for Undertaker to come in and boot Bladewolf in the face, causing him to drop Kane, and Undertaker tosses Bladewolf out of the ring.
Undertaker raises his right arm, signalling the Last Ride, as he grabs kane and starts setting up for the Last Ride.
"I think Undertaker wants to send Kane on his last ride!" Jerry said just as Austin rushes to clothesline Undertaker, who ducks it... AND AUSTIN HITS EARL HEBNER! "No!"
"Austin misses the clothesline and hits Earl Hebner!" Cole said just as Kane... LOW BLOWS UNDERTAKER! "And Kane with a low blow to the Undertaker!"
Kane throws Undertaker out of the ring as Bladewolf slides in and... NAILS KANE WITH THE SPEAR!
"And a Spear from Bladewolf on Kane!" Cole exclaimed as Bladewolf gets to a knee and glares down at Kane before shoving him out of the ring.
Bladewolf turns around into a boot to the gut from Austin... WHO HITS THE STONE COLD STUNNER!
"Stunner to Bladewolf!" Cole said as Austin goes for the cover. "The referee's been knocked out of the ring!"
Referee Tim White runs down to make the count but Vince pulls him out the ring and orders him to check on Earl Hebner, which gets Austin mad as he sees it as vince trying to prevent him from getting the WWF title shot. Vince slides into the ring and makes the count.
"One!"
"Two!"
"Thr-!"
Bladewolf kicks out at two.
Austin corners Vince in the corner, allowing Undertaker to come up from behind and clobber Austin. Undertaker works over Austin in the corner as Bladewolf and Kane are still down from being hit with finishers. Austin and Undertaker keep fighting as Bladewolf and Kane make it to their feet Austin irish whips Undertaker and goes for a right but Undertaker ducks it and Austin turns... INTO A GOOZLE! Undertaker lifts Austin up... AND PLANTS HIM WITH A CHOKESLAM!
"Chokeslam!" Cole said.
"Oh yeah!" Jerry shouted.
Bladewolf and Kane stumble and turn around... ONLY TO BE GRABBED BY THE THROATS BY UNDERTAKER!
"Now Undertaker's got his two little brothers!" Cole said.
Undertaker lifts them up... AND PLANTS THEM WITHA DOUBLE CHOKESLAM!
"Undertaker lays out his brothers with a double chokeslam!" Cole exclaimed.
"His own brothers!" Jerry added.
Undertaker then grabs Austin, but Rikishi is seen walking down to the ring.
"What the hell is Rikishi doing out here?" Cole wondered.
Rikishi slides into the ring and kicks Undertaker in the chest just as Undertaker was setting up Austin for the Last Ride. Undertaker starts fighting with Rikishi before grabbing him by the throat, lifts him up... AND PLANTS HIM WITHA CHOKESLAM! Undertaker then turns around... INTO THE STONE COLD STUNNER! AUSTIN HOOKS THE LEG!
"One!"
"Two!"
"Three!" Vince counts it
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
Austin's theme plays as Vince leaves the ring while Austin gives him a suspicious glare.
"Stone Cold gets Kurt Angle for the title, Monday, live on RAW!" Cole exclaimed.
"What a great referee!" Jerry said, sucking up to Vince.
And that's it for this chapter everyone. I hope you enjoyed it.
