SmackDown: 22/3/2001

SmackDown was live at the Providence Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island. The started with a WWF Hardcore title match between Chris Jericho and Raven. Raven kicks Jericho. Jericho with right hands. Raven tosses a can lid over his head. Raven smashes Jericho over the head with a can lid. Jericho hiptosses Raven on a can. Raven with a knee to the gut. Raven grabs another can. Jericho jumps the turnbuckle and dropkicks Raven. Raven falls into the shopping cart. Jericho wheels the shopping cart and Raven goes over the barracade. Into the crowd. The two battle to the backstage area where a set of pipes fall on Jericho. Jericho throws Raven into a door. Jericho slides Raven across a table of coffee. Jericho mops Raven's face. The two make there way into Regal's office. Raven smashes a bust. Jericho pulls off a picture of the Queen Mother and frames Raven. Jericho shoves Raven's face into some crumpets. Regal enters the office and throws water into Jericho's eyes. Regal smashes Jericho with a vase of roses. Regal goes to check on Raven. Raven smashes Regal over the head with the tray of crumpets. Raven covers Regal and gets the victory.

Raven runs out of the office with the hardcore title.

We're shown a recap of Austin giving Kurt Angle a stunner on RAW two weeks ago when Kurt had the ankle lock on Debra.

We're shown a recap of the closing moments the preceeding hardcore match.

Regal is shown in his office looking over the picture of the Queen Mother. Coach comes in and asks Regal if he's ok. Regal says he'll be fine, but Raven will be in a triple threat match at Wrestlemania against Kane and the Big Show.

We're shown a video package of the Shane/Vince saga over the past two weeks.

Triple H and Stephanie are shown in the back watching. Triple H says he did quite a number. Stephanie says he really did. She tells him to make Kane and Undertaker pay tonight because Kane had her over the balcony and was gonna throw her. Triple H says that reminds him that he's got a little business to take care of. Stephanie tells him to be careful.

We're shown The Bladewolf hitting the Fury of the Wolf on SmackDown last week.

Triple H and the Big Show are shown discussing something in the back.

Next match was Grandmaster Sexay, K-Kwik, and Steve Blackman vs. X-Factor. Blackman goes right after Credible with right hands. Blackman with a leg sweep. Blackman misses an elbow. Blackm with a spin kick. Blackman knocks down X-Pac and kicks Albert who no sells. Tag to K. K with a flying headsicissors. Tag to Grandmaster. Tag to X-Pac. Grandmaster and K dance a bit. X-Pac with a kick to the stomach. Grandmaster with an insiguerri. Grandmaster slams X-Pac's head into Credible. Grandmaster knocks down Albert. X-Pac tags Albert. Grandmaster goes up to the middle rope and does a snake. X-Pac runs over. Grandmaster kicks him down. Albert bicycle kicks Grandmaster knocking him to the outside. K tries to come in. Albert picks Grandmaster up by the throat and drops him on his ass. Tag to Credible. Credible with right hands. Credible tags X-Pac. The two attempt a double clothesline. Grandmaster hits a double cothesline. Tag to K. K unloads on Credible and X-Pac. Albert lifts K into the air. Blackman leg sweeps him. Cover. 2 count. Albert pulls Blackman to the outside. X-Pac hits the X-Factor on K. Credible covers. Ref is occupied on the outside. Gramdmaster hits the hip hop drop on Credible. Cover on Credible. X-Pac breaks it up. K with some acrobatics ducking a spin kick from X-Pac. Double superkick by Credible and X-Pac. X-Pac covers and gets the victory.

Undertaker is shown walking into the arena. Triple H ambushes him from behind and throws him into a steel box on the wall. Triple H says it's nice to see him and leaves. Taker is just a bit frustrated and sits for a while.

We're shown a recap of the preceeding ambush.

Triple H is shown talking to some security guy. Taker comes in. Triple H keeps backing into his locker room. Taker comes into the locker room and cops come to arrest him. Stephanie says to get him. The cops handcuff him. Stephanie says he violated the law. Taker says he'll violate her. Taker asks what it's like to be married to a guy who doesn't have a set. Stephanie says she doesn't know if she wants to press charges and tells the cops to hold him. The cops sit him down on a couch in their dressing room.

William Regal is in his office. Coach walks in and asks what will happen in the main event tonight. Regal says it will have to be a handicap match. Kane vs. Big Show and Triple H.

JR is talking to Austin and thanks him for doing this interview tonight. He tells him to just talk about WrestleMania. Austin says JR doesn't have to worry about him, but what about the champ. JR says he doesn't know, but hopes he can control himself. Austin says fine and goes to get some water.

The Bladewolf and Austin are shown in a locker room with JR sitting between them. Bladewolf had his baseball bat leaning against his chair while he had his Intercontinental Championship on his left shoulder. Austin hd his arms crossed with the WWF Championship on Austin's lap.

"Gentlemen, we're here to talk about WrestleMania." JR said as both men stare each other down. "We're here to talk about the Winner Takes All match for the WWF title and the Intercontinental title. Bladewolf, I want to ask about your thoughts about this match. it's the most highly anticipated Main Event in WrestleMania, the biggest WrestleMania match since the likes of Hogan vs Andre, Hogan vs Warrior."

"My thoughts?" Bladewolf scoffed and shook his head. "Save that question for the last day before WrestleMania. What I'm thinking right now... is what i'm gonna do to Austin in front of his home, in front of all those people, and how much I'm going to enjoy the pain I'm gonna put him through now that our match is No holds Barred."

"You're gonna enjoy it?" Austin chuckles.

"I'm gonna enjoy it." Bladewolf said darkly as he stares Austin down. "I'll hand it to you, Steve, you've had a great journey coming back from being run over by a car in 1999, and you accomplished what you wanted in becoming WWF Champion again. However, that journey is gonna come to a crashing end when I defeat you at WrestleMania."

"Gentlemen, may I ask about the more personal issue between you two?" JR asked. "It seems to resolve around Vince McMahon switching your managers around to manage the other. Trish Stratus, your girlfriend Bladewolf, with Stone Cold. And Debra, your wife Steve, with the Bladewolf."

"I never asked or wanted Debra to be my manager." Bladewolf said. "That was all Vince's fault. But the fact is that it doesn't matter to me what happens to her cause she's not my wife, she's your wife, Austin."

"And I didn't ask for Trish to be my manager and I ain't responsible for what happens to her either, she's your responsibility." Austin retorted.

"So you're alright with her getting struck by a steel chair, huh?" Bladewolf scoffs before he shakes his head. "We're getting worked up here. Let's just go ahead and take Debra and Trish out of the factor." He snaps his fingers. "There. Nonfactor. The fact is Austin, you got the WWF title and I want it. That's my main reason in all of this. You have what I want, enough said about that."

"What with this animosity between you two?" JR asked Austin. "I mean, do you personally hate this man?"

"Personally? What I think about the Bladewolf?" Austin asked before shaking his head. "I could care less about him. But professionally, I can admit he is a great wrestler I've stepped into the ring with. I'd say he's even on his way to becoming the greatest of all time."

JR looked at Bladewolf. "And what do you think of Stone Cold as a human being, Bladewolf?"

"You don't want to know what I think of his personally, believe me." Bladewolf said. "But in a professional manner, I can say he is a formidable opponent that has given me great fights over the last few years I've been here. You see, JR, this whole thing didn't start at the Rumble, it didn't start because of Vince switching our managers... it started one one certain night. WrestleMania 14 in 1998, I defeated Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold to win my first WWF Championship. I lost it a few weeks later to this man and I have never forgotten that night. We've earned each other's respect professionally, we bring out the best in each other every time we step into that ring to fight each other. But the WWF title means so much more to me than my respect for Austin."

"It means much to me as well!" Austin retorted. "I had to come back and win it back and I did just that after a year or so off. That's how much this title means to me! You do NOT want to know the lengths I will go to to keep this title."

"Go to any lengths, Austin, I will take that title from you on April 1st, in front of the whole world at WrestleMania." Bladewolf said. "The odds have been against me many times and I've overcome them and won. These titles are like fish bait and we're two fish swimming for it but fighting to outdo the other and get the bait. The fact of the matter is this, at WrestleMania, April 1st, it's the Bladewolf vs Austin, winner takes all, two of the greatest in wrestling history, No Holds Barred. If I have to dig deep down inside my soul and bring out the demon wolf that I have kept locked away for so long, to face you at WrestleMania. Then so be it. Your time has passed, old man. At WrestleMania, it'll be my time."

"I need to beat you, Bladewolf." Austin said. "I need it more than anything that you can imagine. There can only be one undisputed World Wrestling Federation Champion and that will be, Bladewolf, Stone Cold Steve Austin. With all due respect."

The two stare each other down, the intensity building as the interview ends there...
