RAW is WAR: 23/4/2001
RAW is WAR was live at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. Six days away from Backlash, where fans will see two of the Brothers of Destruction vs Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H in a Winner Takes All match for the WWF Championship, the WWF Intercontinental Championship and the WWF Tag Team Championships. RAW then opened with a recap of everything, followed by it's intro video and theme and the fireworks going off to welcome everybody to the show.
OOOOOOWHOOOOOO!
The pyro exploded and then Rollin played to a loud pop before the Undertaker, Kane and the Bladewolf walked out together, the Undertaker and Bladewolf with the World Tag Team Championships in hand. But due to the old Freebird rule, all three were recognised as Tag Team Champions. The Brothers of Destruction enter the ring and Undertaker's theme soon dies down and he grabs a microphone while handing his WWF Tag Team title to Kane who holds it for him and Bladewolf puts his on his shoulder.
"You know, throughout all the years my brothers and I..." Undertaker trailed off as the crowd popped for them and he waits for it to die down before continuing. "My brothers and I... we've never really been known for our sense of humour. It's hasn't exactly been a decade of laughs, it's been a decade of destruction. But I do have to admit, triple H, a couple of weeks ago, he said..." he paused as the crowd booed and he waited for it to die down before continuing. "Triple H said something a couple of weeks ago, and I'll be damned if I didn't think it was the funniest thing I ever heard. So, Mr. TV producer man, if you'll roll that footage, I want everybody to take a look at it right now."
The Titantron then showed SmackDown from two weeks ago, Triple H, Austin and Stephanie were in the ring, as Triple H called him and Austin the two most dominant men in the World Wrestling Federation today, in the past and in the future. When the footage ended, Undertaker had a smirk on his face as Bladewolf seemed amused at what triple H said.
"Kane, Bladewolf..." Undertaker looked at his brothers. "You two want to see that again?" They nodded. "I thought so. Roll that one more time."
The footage played again.
Undertaker shakes his head. "Now I told you that was funny." He looks at his brothers. "What do you two think? Was that funny?"
"Oh yeah, I'm laughing on the inside." Kane said sarcastically.
"it makes me want to laugh to death." Bladewolf added with a roll of his eyes but he had a small smirk on his face.
Undertaker nodded. "I thought you two might say that. Now, my brothers and I would've been quite happy having a match, two of us against Triple H and Austin just to see who the most dominant team is. But as luck would have it, the stakes... they just rose a little bit. Because now, in less that one week at Backlash, every title in the World Wrestling federation is on the line. The Tag titles, the Intercontinental title and the WWF title are all up for grabs. And I'll tell you what, what amuses me more than anything else, is the thought of Triple H and Austin losing their titles. So boys it breaks down like this, the match has been set. At Backlash, we;re gonna decide who gets what title. So tonight... why don't we have a match to see who the most dominant team is? So let's get it on and let's get it on now!"
The Brothers of Destruction face the stage as they wait for Austin and Triple H to answer their challenge, but after several seconds, they don't appear and suddenly Edge and Christian's theme hits to boos from the crowd as the former WWF Tag Team Champions come out.
"Woah, woah, woah!" Edge said. "Hold the phone there a second pal! the most dominating force in the WWF? That's a lot of big talk from a trio of guys who've had the titles for a total of five days. Math time, fellas, you three have been the Tag Team Champions four times altogether. We have been the Tag Team Champions seven times. Oh yeah, so technically, that makes us seven times better than you."
Christian takes the microphone. "You know, I think the thin air in this town is starting to affect your brain just like it does to the rest of these people in Denver. You wanna come out here and show footage? How about you show the real reason you beat us in the first place, by threatening and setting fire to Commissioner regals' office. I mean, we didn't have time to prepare, we didn't have time to study tapes, or anything like that! you wanna hear something funny? You three claiming to be the most dominant anything, that's funny! Now I know that you three don't have it in you to put those WWF Tag Team titles on the line tonight, but if it's a fight you want... we'll fight you right now!"
Christian drops the microphone as he and Edge ready for a fight.
Bladewolf takes the microphone from Undertaker. "The only thing stopping you is the space between us and the fear of getting your ass kicked."
Edge and Christian share a look before they start walking towards the ring, looking for a fight as the Brothers of Destruction look ready for a fight as well. Edge and Christian jump onto the ring apron but Undertaker and Bladewolf drag them into the ring, with Undertaker attacking Edge, Kane and Bladewolf attacking Christian in the corner.
As the Brothers of Destruction stomp away on Edge and Christian, Triple H and Stone Cold Steve Austin slide into the ring from behind and attack the Brothers of Destruction. Triple H hammers away on Bladewolf before focusing on Kane as Austin attacks the Undertaker They get steel chair and start beating down the Brothers of Destruction with the chairs until they feel like stopping and they stand over the fallen brothers as Austin's theme plays...
Mr. McMahon and Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley gloated in their private room while viewing footage of the Game's and Austin's assault on the Brothers of Destruction - until they saw Mick Foley arrive to WWF New York. Stephanie told her father not to worry, because Foley would do anything for free food. But Mr. McMahon surmised that Foley was up to something.
Accompanied by his half-brothers D-Von and Bubba Ray Dudley - who joined J.R. and Paul Heyman at the announce table - Spike Dudley took on Hardcore Champion Rhyno. Before the match, the Dudleys acknowledged their six-man tag match at Backlash against the X-Factor.
To their surprise, Justin Credible, Albert and X-Pac watched the match from the entrance ramp! The courageous Spike took the fight right to his bigger opponent, and nearly knocked out Rhyno with a trash can lid as he went for the gore! However, X-Factor made their way to ringside and began to brawl with the Dudley Boyz. In the ring, Spike hit the Dudley Dogg on Rhyno and nearly had the match won, only to have Albert pull him off his opponent. Moments later, Rhyno finished Spike with the gore to retain his title. After the match, the Dudleys hit Justin Credible with 3-D, and X-Factor had to run for cover!
In the Right to Censor's locker room before RAW went on the air, Steven Richards told the Goodfather and Bull Buchanan that they were unstoppable, but expressed anger regarding their losing streak and how people are making a mockery out of their cause. So tonight, he pleaded to Goodfather and Bull to fight to win, and for survival! A fired-up Goodfather and Bull then took on Kaientai - who both sported John Elway jerseys! Taka told the group that they lost their way and that there's nothing more pathetic that saying the same thing over and over again, and by the power of Elway, the Right to Censor's good is no match for their EVIL! Richards' pep talk did no good. Taka dropkicked the back of Funaki, whose momentum allowed him to cover Bull and continue the Right the Censor's losing streak!
At WWF New York, Foley enjoyed the service he received in his private suite, and said to put everything on Mr. McMahon's bill.
While Mr. McMahon watched in disgust, the Big Show him and asked if he really meant what he told him on SmackDown!, that he was the biggest disappointment in the business. The Federation chairman said he meant it when he made the Last Man Standing match at Backlash pitting the Show against Shane McMahon. Show warned Mr. McMahon what he's capable of doing to Shane, and then he showed footage of Test congratulating Jeff Hardy for giving Stephanie a Twist of Fate on SmackDown a couple of weeks ago. The Show then suggested that he squeeze Test's neck for payback, and Mr. McMahon thought it was a great idea.
In Commissioner Regal's office, Kurt Angle discussed his tag team submission match pitting he and Regal against Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit. Regal said the match was to simply teach Jericho and Benoit a lesson.
Michael Cole reported that the Undertaker, the Bladewolf and Kane were shaken up after the attack on them earlier in the night, and because Kane had re-injured his elbow, the Brothers of Destruction were done for the night. However, they also promised they would be ready for Backlash on Sunday! As Cole concluded his report, Austin and Triple H confronted him to make sure that he said the Brothers of Destruction were, in fact, finished for the evening, and that they would see about that.
To the tune of 's "No Chance in Hell" entrance theme, Austin and Triple H entered the ring. The Game refreshed everyone's memory by recapping the events of earlier in the evening, when he and Austin took out the Brothers of Destruction, and reaffirmed he and Austin's claim as the two most dominant men in the Federation. Triple H then said that the Tag Team Championship belonged to he and Austin, as did the very ring that Taker loves to call his backyard, and at Backlash, The Brothers of Destruction's asses also belonged to them. Austin then said that the people didn't have to like it, but everything that Triple H said was true, and what happened to the Brothers of Destruction could happen to anyone in the arena. The Rattlesnake then challenged the Brothers of Destruction to fight - if they had anything left in them! When Austin began to question the brothers' guts, a different brother combination came out to accept the challenge - the Hardy Boyz! Matt said that if they wanted to call anyone out, they're ready and waiting, and they'll never know the word "quit!" Jeff added that if there's a fight they're looking for, the Hardy Boyz are still alive!
As the Hardys look to make their way to the ring, pyro explodes and out comes the Brothers of Destruction who make their way down the ramp with the Hardy Boyz and go to attack Austin and Triple H who retreated through the crowd.
Mick Foley's theme hits and he is shown in WWF New York. "You know, JR, the past hour or so, I've been really enjoying some of the great delicacies right here at the WWF New York! And I'm also enjoying one hell of a show right there in Denver, Colorado! But I've got something in this magic bag that will make that show in Denver just a little bit better, it's not by new book which will be available on May 8th, ah here it is! It's one of those crazy contracts that I signed along with Linda McMahon when I was still the WWF Commissioner. And this contract states that I am able to, as Commissioner, make a main event for any RAW of my choosing. And what the hell, I mean, as long as I got a microphone in my hand, as long as millions of people are seeing and hearing me, I'm going to choose this RAW to make my main event! And based on what just took place, I'm going to give ourselves a great little 8-man tag team match! Because right there in that ring, it'll be my old friends Edge and Christian along with Triple H and Stone Cold Steve Austin taking on Matt and Jeff, the Hardy Boyz, and two of the Brothers of Destruction! It's gonna be a great day! thanks a lot!"
Foley's theme plays through the arena as the Brothers of Destruction exchange looks before looking at the Hardy Boyz. RAW goes to commercial break.
Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho fought Commissioner William Regal and Kurt Angle in a unique tag team submission match. Before the match, Y2J talked about his Duchess of Queensbury match with Regal at Backlash. He had no idea what type of match it was, but did know that Regal knew plenty about Duchesses and Queens. Jericho then showed a picture of the English Queen with Regal's face on it! The match was no laughing matter, as each competitor tried every submission hold in the book to win the match. Ultimately, Benoit prevailed by getting the Commish to tap out to the Crossface!
The Big Show took on Test in an attempt to please Mr. McMahon.
Hungry to prove his worth and his commitment to remain in the Federation, Show used his immense power to neutralize Test and toss him around like a rag doll! As the Show went to chokeslam Test, Shane McMahon hit the Show from behind with a chair to cause the disqualification. For good measure, Test hit the Show with a big boot to send him flying over the top rope!
In the back, an irate Mr. McMahon was looking for Shane before running into Trish, who he had not seen since WrestleMania. Mr. McMahon said that since Trish has recently stood on the side of good, he demanded that she compete one-on-one with Ivory. If she lost, Trish would become the newest member of the Right to Censor! The Federation chairman then took off in a huff to continue looking for Shane.
Michael Cole interviewed the unlikely six-man tag team of Raven, Steve Blackman and Grand Master Sexay before their match against the Radicalz. Raven and the Grand Master each gave their take on the match in their respective lingo. Their partner, however, had no idea what they were talking about! The match itself eventually was one-on-one between Raven and Eddie Guerrero, and Latino Heat rolled up Raven for the win!
Frustrations amongst the Right to Censor members nearly boiled over once again in their locker room, until Ivory reassured them by telling them that with a little faith, anything was possible, and she would prove it by defeating Trish Stratus and adding her to the Right to Censor group.
The former Federation Women's Champion dominated the inexperienced Trish in the early going, but Trish showed a tremendous amount of heart and skill, and nearly pinned Ivory on one occasion! Ivory went to the top to finish Trish off with a missile dropkick, but missed! Trish then bulldogged Ivory to this time pin her in a stunning upset!
Backstage, Steve Austin and Triple H warned Edge & Christian to act like seven-time tag team champions.
Triple H, Austin, and Edge & Christian battled the Hardys, the Undertaker and Kane in RAW's main event. While the participants in the main event at Backlash brawled outside the ring, the Hardys electrified the fans with a couple of Poetries in Motion to Edge & Christian. Once back in the ring, Taker and Kane showed little effects from the attack earlier in the evening to do a number on Austin and Triple H, until the Game attacked Kane's injured left arm to leave the Big Red Machine open to vicious punishment. Later, the fight took to the outside once again, and Kane battled back to nail Triple H with a clothesline and tag Matt Hardy. Triple H, though, caught Matt in a neckbreaker and had the match won until Taker broke up the count. The Dead Man then executed a chokeslam on the Game, but was double-teamed by Edge & Christian. Out of nowhere, Austin hit the Stunner on Matt to allow Triple H to cover him for the win!
With the Undertaker staring them down, Austin, Triple H and Stephanie left ringside holding their titles high above their heads as RAW went off the air!
And that's it for this chapter. Yeah, Bladewolf didn't get in on the 8-man tag team match, he gave that to Kane. But he will team with Undertaker to face Austin and Triple H at Backlash.
