Chapter 3

Later in the afternoon there was a small knock on my door and I assumed it was Thor wanting to talk about what happened earlier.

"Thor, go away please, not now" I shouted through but trying to be nice about it, not feeling like i'd be able to face him just yet.

"It's Nat. I've bought you a sandwich" She called softly from the other side of the door softly.

"Oh, come in, it's open" I called back, choking back tears at her kindness.

She came in, closed the door behind her and walked over to sit next to me.

"You doing okay?" She asked

"Not really. I guess Thor told you about what happened earlier?" I asked as I took the plate from her and took a bite out of the chicken and salad sandwich.

"Yeh, we heard the shouting from up here and he told us what happened when he came back down. Why didn't you tell us about it?"

"By the time I came and joined you guys I thought I had gone through the motions of it all but then having him right there in front of me, it just set me off and opened the wounds" I sighed in reply

"You're not the only one who isn't exactly happy about the arrangements. Loki is on house arrest until we can be sure he won't cause any trouble" she trailed off. "Well, dinner will be ready later at about 6ish if you're feeling up for it. I'll leave you to it" and with that she left me alone and no one bothered me for the rest of the day.

Come dinner time I was still feeling vulnerable so I went down to dinner in my cat form. I could move a lot quicker like that if I was in need of a quick escape.

"Hey, kid, glad you're joining us!" Tony smiled as I hazardously walked into the room looking around for where Loki was so I could avoid him at all costs. I silently thanked that he didn't bring up my past, not that I'd have been able to answer him in cat form.

I jumped up on my chair at the table but remained in cat form.

"You staying like that, Liz?" Cap asked from across from me as he was putting down the plate of steaks he had just cooked up for us.

I nodded in reply.

When it was apparent I wasn't going to be joining them in human form, Cap took a steak and cut it up into pieces and put the plate in front of me so that I could eat it easily. Cap was like the mom of the group and always made sure we were looked after. I meowed my thanks to him when he set the plate down.

Everyone ate in silence that evening and I could feel the tension in the air. It was so thick you could have cut through it with a knife. Nat wasn't kidding earlier when she said the others weren't happy about Loki being back on Earth, let alone in our home.

Once I finished with my plate I vanished it, cleaned, back into the cupboards in the kitchen and hopped off my chair and trotted into the living room to curl up on the sofa.

Putting my own feelings aside, I still wanted to spend some time with the team so I didn't go back up to my room just yet. I waited for the others to join me in the living room and curled up on Caps lap while they all put something on the TV and he was scratching me between the ears. He hit just the spot and a tiny purr came from my chest which he chuckled at and we spent the rest of our evening letting the tension die down. They even found out a ball and played with me with it.
