Chapter 9
The following morning after my shower I dressed and tied my waist length brown hair up in a ponytail to keep it out of my way and went down to grab something to eat before my first ever mission. I was both excited and nervous.
I joined the rest of the team at the dining table but Loki was nowhere to be seen.
"So, what are we doing today?" I asked between bites of my toast
"We've received intel that there is a base outside of town belonging to a group called Hydra" Nat started off.
"We want you to fly over and tell us what you see and we will go from there" Cap followed up.
After we were all fed and watered we were getting ready to go and Loki came into the lounge.
"Morning, Loki" I said as I was zipping up my jacket
"Good Morning, Lady Liz. Please be careful out there today" he greeted me.
"Dont worry about me, i'm only flying over to do some recon for the team" I smiled as I made my way to the door to the quin jet.
"Fear not, brother, we will take care of Lady Liz" Thor boomed and put his hand on Lokis shoulder as he walked past.
I'd never been in the Avengers quin jet until today. It was a lot bigger inside than I would have thought it would have been from looking at it from the outside.
The main body was a big open space that had a table in the middle of it. There were 2 seats in the cockpit for the pilot and copilot and there were benches on either side of the main body. I took a seat on the right hand side of the jet and buckled myself in.
"Alright, kid, you're just flying over. Do what we say, when we say it and we won't have any problems" Stark said as we were nearing the Hydra base.
I nodded my understanding and got up to shift into the form of a sparrow.
The jet came to a stop and the door opened.
"Good luck, Liz," Clint said with a wave and a smile.
I dove out of the plane and swept over to the building I had to survey.
It just looked like a normal storage building from the outside. I swooped in closer and landed on a window ledge at the top of the building and looked in.
It was empty. I cocked my head in confusion and flew over to a broken window to get inside.
I landed on the stone floor and looked around. Nothing but empty shelves and a few desks dotted around.
Well this is a bit of a bum mission for my first one, I thought to myself and shook my head, taking flight to report back to the team.
I landed back in the jet and shifted to human form.
"So, what did you see?" Cap asked
"Nothing. The place looks abandoned" i replied with a sigh shaking my head
"Lets move in, team" Cap said and we all made our way over to the building.
"You're right, it's empty," Cap said once we were there.
"What did you expect after I already told you that?" I joked
"Over here, there's a draft" Nat called from the north wall and we all went to look.
I placed my hands on the walls and felt the breeze too. "Maybe a hidden door?" But as the words left my mouth something in the wall shifted under my hands and i fell forwards into the hidden passage "Owch"
"Oh no" Clint said as a blaring alarm sounded all around us.
"Kid, get back!" Tony yelled over the coms and I jumped to my feet to retreat back into the warehouse as I heard numerous footsteps running towards me. Then all hell broke loose.
About ten soldiers came running at us all with guns and they were shooting first and asking questions later. I ran to the exit as the rest of the team engaged in combat. I was supposed to get back to the jet but I couldn't just run away from my friends.
I summoned some daggers and joined the fight.
We were winning and there were only a couple left but then there was a gunshot and time seemed to slow down.
"Liz!"
"Get her out of here!"
"Are you alright?!"
I didn't know who was shouting what, all I knew was that I was falling backwards and my right shoulder felt like it was on fire.
I crashed to the floor and my vision started to blur and go dark around the edges.
"Don't worry kid, you'll be okay" I heard Tony's muffled voice and I was being lifted up by someone and then I blacked out.
