When I call on you
Black and white turns to grey colors
In your mind you walk on water
You defy all that seems logical, it's beautiful
Never let me go
The Grey, Dynazty

"Is there anything I need to know before we go in there?" I asked, as we pulled up in front of the valet.

Dick shrugged. "Not really, no. I mostly just smile and make polite small talk. Eventually, they tend to leave me alone."

He got out, walking around the car to me. Taking his hand and climbing out, I looked up at the mansion in awe. It was beautiful, and I was still surprised I had a chance to go inside. I was distracted by it, barely noticing as Dick handed the keys over to the valet.

"Are you ready?" He asked, offering me his arm.

I nodded, placing my hand in the crook of his elbow. We walked up the stairs, into the entrance hall. There were so many people, some of them I recognised from work, but others I'd never even seen before. This was all so new to me, and I clung to Dick's arm, hoping I didn't make a fool of myself.

He must have noticed, because he suddenly leaned in and pressed a kiss to my cheek. I blushed, looking over at him.

"I'll show you around later, if you want." He said quietly, as he led me through the crowd into the ballroom.

"Oh! I would love that." I replied, looking around at the beautiful paintings. "Did you live here after you were adopted? It's so beautiful."

He took two glasses of champagne from a nearby server, then handed one to me. "I did. I guess it is beautiful, I honestly never thought about it much."

I awkwardly followed him around, comforted by his hand on mine. He seemed so calm and collected, sweet talking his way through the crowd of people.

"How do you do it?" I asked, as we stepped away from another couple. "You seem so at ease amongst all these people."

"Experience." He laughed. "Bruce expected me to attend all of his parties and social events. I learned very quickly how to behave."

I was going to ask more, but then I saw Lucius approaching us. He gave me a broad smile.

"It's good to see you both." He commented, stopping in front of us. "I hope you're enjoying your holiday."

"I am, yeah." I nodded, a little hesitantly. "It's nice to have a little free time. Between college and work, I don't always have a lot."

"If you need some paid time off to get through your class work, please let me know."

"Thank you. I appreciate it."

He nodded, then moved on to talk to someone else. I looked at Dick, who seemed deep in thought.

"What's on your mind?" I asked, turning to face him.

"I need to go talk to Bruce for a second. Meet me in the study?"

I nodded. "Sure, but where would I find it?"

He subtly pointed at a door near the back of the room. "Out there, second door on your right."

I let go of his hand, turning to leave, only for him to suddenly pull me back and kiss me. People were probably watching, but I couldn't seem to care.

"I'll be there in a minute." He whispered, releasing me.

I worked through the crowd, knowing that I couldn't hide the blush that was spreading across my cheeks. I was very thankful to get out of there, because I really didn't like all the attention.

Stepping into the study, I was speechless when I saw the giant bookshelves that lined the walls. It was beautiful, and overwhelming. I looked around, reading some of the spines of the books. I didn't realise how long I'd been engrossed in the books until I heard a voice behind me.

"I thought we could start here." Dick walked over to me. "This was my favourite room when I was younger."

I turned to face him. "You must have spent a lot of time reading in here."

"Days, even weeks." He reached out, brushing a strand of my hair behind my ear. "When I wasn't trying to run."

As I felt the warmth of his skin against mine, I blushed again. "I can definitely see you as a rebellious teen. You don't seem like the type to sit around quietly, following orders."

"What are you talking about?" He gave me an innocent look. "I'm very well behaved."

"Of course you are." I laughed, wrapping my arms around his neck. "That's why we're currently in the party, politely conversing with the rich. Oh… wait…"

He chuckled, pressing a kiss to my forehead. "Good point. Come, I'll show you more."

Taking my hand, he gently pulled me out into the hall. We walked along the corridor to a door the lead out the back of the house. I was suddenly thankful for my tights, but I clung to him a little harder for warmth.

"We're nearly there. It's warm inside, I promise." He gestured to what looked like a greenhouse.

He opened the glass door, stepping inside. I followed, gasping quietly as warm air swept over me. The mixed scents of flowers hit my nose, and I looked around, finding myself surrounded by them.

"Oh… It's beautiful." I breathed, walking along the rows and rows of plants. "Did you do all this?"

"I didn't adjust very well, and I kept running off and getting into fights." He paused, gently brushing a little dust off a leaf. "Bruce took me to see a therapist who told me that I just needed to find an outlet, something to focus on. He wanted me to try lots of different things to find what worked, but I found myself drawn to the garden. So he had this built for me."

I walked over to him, pulling him close for a hug. "Thank you for showing this to me."

"There's more I can show you." He kissed me softly. "Or do you want to stay here a while longer?"

"I feel like I should tell you something about my past." I played with the charm on my necklace. "You've told me a lot, and I don't want you thinking I'm holding something massive back."

He shook his head. "I don't think that. But if you want, tell me about Melbourne."

I stepped back, gently touching one of the flowers. "It's a loud place. There's always music and excitement. I loved it there."

"You could go back."

"No." I bit my lip, avoiding his gaze. "There's nothing for me there anymore. Besides, if I left now, poor Lucius would be completely lost."

"And you really never saw snow there?" He asked, touching my arm.

I shook my head. "Never. It doesn't get below around 10 degrees… oh." I paused at the confused look on his face, and did some rough maths in my head. "Around 50."

The confusion changed to surprise. "So it really doesn't get very cold there at all."

"No, not at all compared to here." I placed my hand over his. "But it gets so hot during summer. The weather here is nicer, and I love the snow."

There was a moment of comfortable silence, and I gave him a small smile.

"Come on, there was more you wanted to show me." I pulled him towards the door.

He lead me back inside, and up the stairs to another room. I opened the door this time, finding a bedroom. It was plainer than I expected it to be, and I turned to him in surprise.

"What, no posters of women?" I laughed, looking around. "Or sports stars? Or were you more of a nerdy gamer kid?"

"I was both." He walked over to me, gently taking my hand. "I'd play hockey after school, then game after my homework was done. What about you?"

"I was very focused on learning, because I was certain I wanted to be a scientist. So I mostly just went home and studied." I traced the back of his hand with my fingers. "My parents basically had an intervention and told me I needed to find some hobbies. So I started archery, and learnt how to bake."

He pulled me closer, pressing a soft kiss to my cheek. "Are we finished talking? Or would you rather go back to the party?"

"I suppose I can stop." I breathed, slowly sliding my arms around his neck.

"Good." He reached up, pulling the clip out of my updo.

As my hair fell onto my shoulders, he took hold of my face and kissed me. His fingers tangled in my curls, pressing them against my skin. My heart was pounding in my chest, and I pulled him even closer.

I moved my hands to his tie, starting to loosen it. Before I could get very far, my phone began to ring.

"Should you answer that?" He breathed, reluctantly pulling back.

I sighed, nodding as I pulled it out of my bag. The number was unfamiliar, but that wasn't uncommon, especially with my job.

"I'll be outside when you're done."

As he left the room, I sat down on the bed and answered the call. The voice that came down the line was more of a surprise than I ever could have imagined. It was almost a little too familiar, and I wasn't sure I wanted to talk.

"Did you really come to Gotham and not even tell me? I'm a little insulted, Fay."

I bit my lip, hesitating for a moment. "I didn't even know you were in the city, Mo. It's not like we've spoken in over a year. What do you want?"

"I… I just want to see you." He paused, and I heard a door shut. "There's a lot I want to say."

"I don't know what else there is to say that you haven't already said, but I'm free on Saturday. We can meet somewhere." I stood up again, running my fingers through my hair. "I need to go now, I'm busy."

Before he could reply, I hung up. There was no way I wanted to think about him right then, because I was in the middle of something really good here.

Opening the door, I laughed when Dick suddenly swept into the room, pulling me into his arms.

"Was the call important?" He asked, taking my hand and beginning a slow waltz.

"Nothing that can't wait another day or two." I kissed him, clinging to his shirt. "And definitely nothing that's more important than this."
