(A/N: Before you begin, I forgot to mention that if I were to do a blooper reel, tell me which parts of the story are worthy of being bloopers, either in reviews or PM. Now, I based this chapter off a CSI episode involving some cops in a relay. Anyways, enjoy it)
In Darkley's, the Ninja, wearing athletic gear, were preparing themselves in participating in a relay alongside police officers from Ninjago City, Ignacia Village, Darkley's, Stiix and other villages. The police officers who opposed to have the Ninja in the relay were Stiix's due to them being partly responsible for almost destroying the city during the battle against the Preeminent. They were invited to participate by Dareth and Commissioner Navis, something that Dragon approved since they need to be back into training following the Oni attack. They each had to have a Vengestone bracelet on so they wouldn't cheat, even though they promised not to use them, but they agreed so they would take precautions. The relay would take place from Darkley's to Ninjago City with a member at each checkpoint to pass the baton on to the next checkpoint after several miles.
1 Week Earlier
Lloyd looks at a letter the mailman had just given him, after walking up the many steps to reach the monastery, as the other Ninja look over his shoulder while Dragon, Misako, Tania and Faith were nearby. "A police relay?" Kai asked as Dragon came up to them took the letter. "Are they joking?"
"No, it's even signed by the Commissioner himself." Lloyd replied as Gewuji took it.
"We should do it." She said.
"You just want to be close to Mantis." Geoff replied, teasing her a little.
"Hey, I have a boyfriend. Besides, we should do the relay. It will be fun, too."
"What is a relay?" Faith asked.
"It's where you run from one spot to another while racing against other teams." Zane, in his Titanium form, replied. "Some of these are either for those in need or just want to have some fun."
"Do you know how far it is from Darkley's to Ninjago City?" Jay asked.
"Over 300 miles. That is if there is no sandstorm in the Badlands or Sea of Sand."
"This is the first time they actually invited us to attend anything police related." Nya said as she looked at the letter.
"It could help get us back into shape after what happened against the Oni." Blake replied.
"I'm not sure we should do this." Cole said.
"Why not?" Maggie asked. "This could probably also help with the weight you regained."
"Hey, I'm back to enjoying it! And we still-"
"Don't use me as an excuse." Dragon cuts him off. "Besides, remember what I taught you about opportunities?"
"'Don't put off until tomorrow what can be done today.'" Gewuji replied, wrapping her arms around Lloyd.
"Very well." Cole said. "I'm in. Lloyd?"
"I guess so." Lloyd replied before looking at a smiling Gewuji. "I suppose the others are as well." They all nod at each other.
"Then it is decided." Dragon said. "You all shall participate the relay together."
Present
In Darkley's, the Ninja were still getting ready along with the other officers. Nearby, a camera crew were preparing themselves as a middle aged man with black hair in a grey suit, white shirt, brown tie and black dress shoes was getting ready. "And we're on, Delbert." The cameraman said to the man as he was putting some glasses on.
"This is Delbert Paul-Odeon, reporting live from Darkley's where Ninjago Police Relay is starting from, all the way to Ninjago City." The man said, pointing down the road. "There is also a surprise in store for everyone. Our favourite heroes, the Ninja, are also participating, invited by Ninjago City Commissioner Navis himself. Now, let's cross over to Ninjago City, where Delbert is right now."
In Ninjago City, a middle aged man with strawberry blonde hair, wearing a white shirt with the sleeves tucked up, black suit pants and black dress shoes, was facing the camera crew while holding one hand to a headset. "Uh, Delbert Elders here, um, this here the finishing line, just outside of Master Chen's Noodle, just 200 miles from your current position." He said as he came up to Skylor. "And Miss Skylor Chen has kindly given out the reward for the winning police team when the last officer of the team reaches the finishing line first. Uh, Miss Chen, what is the reward?" He holds out the headset microphone to her.
"Well, Delbert, the winning team gets free meals from Master Chen's Noodle House for a whole year." She said. "That also extends to relatives of the winning team."
"Thank you, Miss Chen." He moves away from her. "Now, are the racers ready, Delbert?"
Back at Darkley's, the racers were still getting ready. "Not ready yet, Delbert." Delbert PO said. "Uh, let's hear what will being going on down the road and your opinion, Delbert."
In the middle of the road, a middle aged man with messy brown hair, left eyebrow several inches above from the other and thicker, wearing a black suit, white shirt, dark blue tie and black dress shoes, was facing the camera. "Well...well, Delbert." The man said in a fast pace. "This is the Badlands, where this will serve as the final mark of the tremendously long race, that is extraordinarily long...extraordinarily long. Once the first 5 legs of the race are done... this will be the 6th to 10th leg of the race which give us a tremendous, really, tremendous, tremendous, tremendous view of the sights around us until the racers arrive." He starts hyperventilating before a splash of water hits him and he calms down. "Oh, I needed that."
Back at Darkley's, Delbert PO turned to the racers. "Well, thank you, Delbert." He felt awkward about his colleague's hyperventilating. "It looks like the racers are almost ready. So, let's interview a few of them." He heads over to Mantis, who had slightly longer hair, as he was on one knee to stretch his other leg while Faith watches him and holds a water bottle.
Close by, Misako came up to Lloyd. "Do your best." She said.
"I will, mom." Lloyd replied as he lifted on leg behind him to stretch his knee.
Close by, Ray and Maya were with Nya. "Just remember, this isn't a race." Maya said.
"Consider it fun." Ray said.
"Of course." Nya replied, a little annoyed. "You should tell that to Kai." They turn to see Kai with Skylor before they kiss and he heads over to them.
"I still don't agree with this."
"Dad, she fought on our side." Kai said.
"I know, but still-"
"Ray, please, Skylor seems like a great woman." Maya said.
"Her father may be a traitor, be she is not him." Kai said. "It's the same with Clouse's kids." They look over to Geoff and Gewuji as Tania was talking to them. Geoff was doing squats while Gewuji was twisting her waist around by moving side to side. "We treated Geoff badly after we saw him wearing the Anacondrai Cultist yukata, but we later found out it was to protect his sister, who was a kabuki."
"Now, don't be afraid if you don't make it in time." Tania said.
"Mom, I may be blind, but I know where to go." Geoff replied as he stopped doing squats.
"Besides, it is only several miles and then we stop at a checkpoint for the next person." Gewuji said.
"I know." Tania replied. "But you're my kids, and my responsibility."
They turn back to each other as Maya sees Jay with Ed and Edna. "You should check up on your husband." She said and Nya chuckled before walking over to Jay.
"Now, did you eat your vegetables right?" Edna asked Jay, touching his cheeks.
"Yes, mom, I had them all week for this relay." Jay replied while moving her hands away as Nya came up to him.
"Quit worrying, Edna." Nya said as she placed her hands on her husband's shoulders. "We have all been eating our vegetables."
"Oh, I always worry, Nya dear." Edna replied before turning to Ed. "Ed, are you worried?"
"A little, sugarplum." He said.
Close by, Zane, in his Titanium form, and P.I.X.A.L. were near a table, looking at the route the officers and Ninja must take. "I hope you do well." P.I.X.A.L. said. "After all, we are compatible."
"We are compatible." Zane, turning from his Titanium form, into his cloaked form, replied, smiling.
By some trucks nearby that would take the officers and Ninja to each leg of the relay, Lou and Cole were leaning by a black one. "Do your best, Cole." Lou said.
"Great advice, pop." Cole replied. He had done his hair up in a man bun for the relay, much to the other Ninja's amusement.
"I am serious. Me and the boys have a song written in case you guys do win. We call it 'Victory for the Ninja'."
"We'll make sure."
Close by, Blake was with Cyrus and Cirrus as he was looking at his robotic arm. Cirrus' baby bump was showing a little. "You know, Blake, if I didn't have this disability all my life, I probably would've ran." Cyrus said.
"Dad, there's gonna be a relay involving cripples as well in the next fall, you can join me then." Blake replied.
"I know, I'm just a little worried."
"You cloned me for a lot of things that you couldn't do yourself. So, technically, you're doing them."
"I know, but you took charge of your own destiny, I'm always proud of that."
"Thanks."
"Hey, Blake, just do well." Cirrus said.
"I shall, hon." Blake and Cirrus quickly kiss before Blake took off his glasses, hands them to his father, and walks off.
Blake passes by Maggie and Dr. Hall, where he briefly waved at them while walking. "So, you're one of the volunteer medics in case anything goes wrong?" Maggie asked.
"Yeah, but I doubt anything will happen." Dr. Hall replied.
"Ninja, gather around for a meeting." Dragon said as he came up next to Lloyd before they all came up to him. "Just remember, this isn't a race, this is not just a day of training, just enjoy yourselves. Don't worry if you don't make it. As iron sharpens iron..."
"Teammate sharpens teammate." Lloyd replied.
"And friend sharpens friend." Geoff said.
"I still don't get why we have to wear these stupid things anyway." Cole said, complaining about his attire.
"It is compulsory to wear clothing like activewear for sports." Zane replied. "It would also be an insult not accepting these from the Ninjago City Police Department."
"At least they got the size right."
"Not to mention these shoes." Kai said, looking at his shoes. They were white with markings of his primary colour all over them. "Who came up with the stupid design anyway."
"Hey, the Pyke Company said that we have wear them to sponsor their new shoe type." Geoff replied. "Besides, the Ninja Runners ain't bad. Some of the officers are wearing some too."
"Can we get rid of them afterwards?" Cole asked.
"After the relay, we can give them to the Grant-A-Wish foundation."
"Not me, I'm keeping mine." Jay said and soon chuckled as he looked at his. "They look cool."
"Attention all officers... and Ninja, the relay will start in a few minutes." Commissioner Navis said, while standing on a prison van with a bullhorn and Simon and Tommy next to him, both were wearing athletic gear. "All personnel that were assigned the first checkpoint, make your way to the hotel, other racers, please head to your assigned van for your leg of the relay."
"Well, that's our cue." Lloyd said. "Everyone ready for this?"
"Ninjago!" They all huddle and raise their arms in the sky.
"Well, the relay is about to begin and they're under Assistant Commissioner Proctor's orders." Delbert PO said, pointing to Cornelius, who was at the edge of a balcony.
Several minutes later, at the start which was at a hotel just outside of Darkley's, there was an officer from each department as well as Cole, who was elected to go first, mostly due to badmouthing the shoe company. "I still can not believe we have to do this." He said to himself as he came up to the starting line. "Well, there is no turning back now."
"On your marks!" Cornelius said before raising a starter pistol into the air as the racers get ready to run. "Get set!" He soon fired it and the officers and Cole start running down the road, starting the relay.
"And they're off!" Delbert PO said as the racers take off. "And Jamanakai's Officer Lionel Johnson is in the lead, Black Ninja Cole Smith is in second and Ninjago Police Corporal Sean Torset in third place."
