I woke up wondering where I was the next morning as I realized I was in an unfamiliar bedroom before I remembered that I was now living in Forks. And today was my first day at Forks High School. I got out of bed and went to the bathroom to brush my teeth, then I showered, throwing on a green short sleeved shirt over a blue long-sleeved shirt and jeans. A fashion disaster, Rachel would say, I thought sadly. I pushed her out of my head and made myself cereal for breakfast. Then I grabbed my backpack and truck keys and drove to Forks High School.

I was relieved to be dealing with normal person problems like going to a new school, I would take that any day over dealing with the anxiety over not knowing whether I would come home or not after a mission. When I pulled into the parking lot someone called out to me, "nice truck!" I said an awkward thank you and hurried into the building. I looked around the sea of students, hoping I could get to the main office to get my class schedule.

"You're Isabella, right?" A voice asked. I looked over to see a boy with dark hair walking beside me.

"Just Bella," I corrected.

"I'm Eric Yorkie. I'll be your eyes and ears for this place. Where are you trying to go?"

"The main office. I need to get my schedule and locker," I said.

He smiled. "Here, I'll show you where it is," Eric offered, leading me there. So far, not too bad of a start to the day.

When gym class came, things took a turn. We were playing volleyball, and I'm not exactly the most athletic person. I knocked the ball and it hit a guy in the back of the head.

"I'm sorry! I told them not to let me play," I said.

The boy turned around and smiled. "No worries. I'm Mike Newton. You're Chief Swan's daughter, right?"

In a town this small, everyone knew everything. We'd never be safe from the Yeerks here.

"Yeah. I moved here from Arizona," I replied.

"Wow, you're so pale, I never would've guessed," Jessica Stanley, a girl I'd met in math class commented, joining the conversation.

"Yeah, that's probably why they kicked me out," I joked, trying to find my inner Marco. But I wasn't funny like he is.

Jessica and Mike laughed awkwardly, Jessica commenting that I was funny, but I could tell neither of them liked my joke.

During lunch, I ate with Eric, Mike, and Jessica, and met their friends Angela and Tyler. Angela was a nice person and seemed genuine, reminding me of Cassie. Tyler, Eric, and Mike seemed to be trying to flirt with me, which threw me off. When I brought it up to Angela and Jessica, Jessica merely said, "Well, you are like their shiny new toy." I sensed jealousy behind her words.

I glanced around the cafeteria, feeling awkward from her comment. That's when I noticed a group of students walking in. "Who are they?"

"That's the Cullens kids. They're Doctor and Mrs. Cullen's foster kids," Angela said. "The tall buff one is Emmett, and he's dating Rosalie Hale, the blond girl. It's weird because they're all foster siblings. The little dark-haired girl, Alice- she's with Jasper Hale, the blonde guy who looks like he's always in pain."

I watched them. The Cullens were pale, with a kind of strange beauty that had my alarm bell ringing. Where had the Ellimist sent me where people like this existed? A bronze haired boy entering the cafeteria, with the same pale skin and inhuman beauty as the others, distracted me. "Who's he?"

"That's Edward Cullen," Angela said.

"He's totally gorgeous. But don't waste your time, apparently no one here is good enough for him," Jessica said in a tone of voice that made me think he'd probably rejected her in the past.

"Wasn't planning on it," I said, turning my head and glancing at the bronze haired boy. Both he and the rest of the Cullens met my gaze, and I turned away, feeling unsettled. Those teens were so beautiful they could be spokespeople to get others to join The Sharing.

After lunch, my next class was biology. And as fate would have it, Edward Cullen was in the same class I was in. He covered his nose and mouth when I sat down next to him, the only seat available. Awkwardly I sniffed my hair, wondering if he thought I smelled. I couldn't concentrate the rest of the class. Edward's eyes were on me the entire time, and if looks could kill I'd be dead. When the bell finally rang he jumped up and stormed out of the classroom. I didn't mean to follow him but when I entered the main office, he was there.

"I'm sorry, but I'm afraid you'll have to stay in biology," the front desk woman was saying.

"Fine. I guess I'll have to endure it," Edward said, sounding angry. He stormed past me. I paused for a moment and then turned, ready to go after him, ready to follow him out of the school and morph to harrier and follow him home when I remembered I wasn't wearing my morphing suit under my clothes. I'd have to confront him tomorrow, I decided. I had to know what the hell his problem was.
