Three Days Later: The Preliminaries Arena

All the genin came into the massive room and stood in front of the Third Hokage who had their Jonin senseis and the other two proctors of Anko and Ibiki flanking him.

Hurizen Sarutobi "I would like to welcome you all here today and to congratulate you on getting this far. For those of you not from here, I would like to most gratuitously welcome you to the village hidden in the leaves.

Now, as there is twice the number of desired chunin applicants, we will be holding some preliminary rounds." The third Hokage then pointed over to the wall "This sign with eighteen slots here will use a computer to randomly match each fighter and their opponents."

"If you win your match in the preliminary round then you will all go to the final round and end of the chunin exams. Unlike these preliminary rounds, in the final one, there will be a large crowd and you will be judged on your skills instead of winning your match."

Hurizen Sarutobi "I once again welcome those not from here to the village hidden in leaves. Good luck everyone."

With that, the massive display board randomly decided the matches.

Naruto Uzumaki vs Temari

Misumi Tsurugi vs Rock Lee

Kiba Inuzuka vs Tenten

Shino Aburame vs Kankurō

Neji Hyuuga vs Sasuke Uchiha

Yoroi vs Chōji Akimichi

Shikamaru Nara vs Kin Tsuchi

Ino Yamanaka vs Hinata Hyuuga

Dosu Kinuta vs Zaku Abumi

Hikari Hyuuga vs Gaara of the Sand

The sound and sand ninja stared at the matches. That wasn't supposed to be the match orders! How could this happen? They had implanted a spy to create a desirable order of matches that weren't truly random!

Elsewhere Anko was cleaning the blood and guts of a spy off her kunai. "Better luck next time idiot! Thanks for the information though!"

Anko then turned to the pile of sinew and guts and made some hand signs "Fire Style: Deathpyre Jutsu!" Anko's jutsu then quietly turned the bloody remains into a tiny pile of ashes.

The Arena

Hayate Gekkō "Hello everyone, I am Hayate Gekkō, the proctor of this event *cough*. I will step in if a victory is clear to prevent unnecessary deaths. A victory is won by submission, unconsciousness, debilitating injuries preventing father fighting, or death." *cough cough* "Now, the matches have been chosen. Can Naruto Uzumaki and Temari please come down to the arena to begin the first match?"

Naruto "Whohoo! I'm going first!"

Hikari "Good luck Naruto! Remember she has a giant fan, so she's most likely also a wind user too."

Naruto: "She is? That doesn't matter because I'm going to beat her anyway!"

Naruto and Temari then jumped down into the arena.

Hayate Gekkō "Begin!"

Temari drew her fan and Naruto made the sign for shadow clones.

Naruto "Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu!" Several thousand Narutos then appeared.

Temari "Impressive, but it doesn't matter how many clones you can make. My wind will find the real one! Wind Style: Hurricane!"

A massive gust of wind flew towards the Naruto clones but each of them just wove some hand signs "Wind Style: Vacuum Barrier!"

Thanks to the unique barrier jutsu created by Naruto working with Hikari for ideas, Temari's wind just gently blew over Naruto instead of going through him.

Naruto "Is that all you got?!" Each Naruto then started rapidly palm punching the air. "Wind Style: Gale Palm Onslaught!"

Temari is rapidly assaulted by random blasts of powerful wind chakra coming from all directions. She tries to resist it and protect herself, but she can't and gets thrown around like a rag doll.

A few seconds later she falls to the floor in a heap, only to dissipate into a gust of wind.

Naruto "A clone made from wind?"

Temari then appeared behind him "Your technique has blown away all your shadow clones as well.

Naruto finds himself being smacked in the face with Temari's fan coated in wind chakra but he disappears in a giant explosion.

Temari is knocked into the stone wall by the force of the explosion, causing a spider web of cracks in the wall behind her. She instantly blacks out from the force of the impact.

Naruto then jumps off from his hiding place on the ceiling where he was hiding using a transformation similar to how Temari was. "Yeah! Exploding shadow clones are awesome; Believe It!"

Hayate Gekkō "Winner by Knockout! Naruto Uzumaki!"

The Stands

Tenen "How could you defend against a move like that? All that wind coming from every direction?"

Hikari "As Temari just showed, hide outside of its range on the ceiling and use a clone as a decoy, use some kind of chakra armor, or use a rotational technique. Although I suppose any kind of ninjutsu that covers the user in chakra would be sufficient if it was strong enough..."

Tenen "I meant with my weapons and stuff?"

Hikari "A well-rounded ninja is the best kind of ninja. That way, we can be the readiest for whatever the situation may call for. I suggest finding out your elemental affinity and training in it. Oh and stuff like genjutsu and poison brewing as well! ...Then again that could just be personal bias speaking."

Tenten "And how would I do that?"

Hikari took some chakra paper out of one of her seals and handed it to Tenten "Pour some chakra into this."

Tenten took it and did so. It tore in half.

Hikari "Well it looks like you have an affinity for wind as well. Practicing wind ninjutsu would give your fighting style far more range, versatility, and allow for the sharpening and extending the range of your weapons."

Tenten "I'll get working on that! So do you know what your elemental affinity is?"

Hikari "Yep, I've been declared a prodigy comparable to Tobirama Senju in my primary affinity of water and I am just getting started on my lightning secondary affinity." She then held up her hand and ran some lightning chakra through it to cover her hand in sparks "This is as much as I can do so far. It's not even at a lethal voltage yet."

Sasuke "I'd say you're making good progress, Hikari."

Hikari smiled "Thanks Sasuke!"

Ino 'How dare Sasuke compliment another girl! She's just some stupid idiot who isn't even as hot as me!'

Hayate Gekkō "Would Rock Lee and Misumi Tsurugi please come down to the arena for the next match?" *cough cough*

Rock Lee ran up to Gai and hugged him "Gai Sensei, it is my turn to show the springtime flames of youth!"

Gai "Lee!"

Rock Lee "Gai Sensei!'

Gai "Lee!"

Rock Lee "Guy Sensei!"

Gai "Lee!"

Rock Lee "Gai Sensei!'

Gai "Lee!"

Rock Lee "Guy Sensei!"

With that everyone could see a highly disturbing genjutsu of the two men hugging on a beach with a wave splashing up against a nearby rock. Those with Dojutsu such as Sasuke, Hikari, Neji, and Hinata immediately flared theirs to see through this disturbing sight while everyone else quickly made the hand sign to release the genjutsu.

Hikari turned to her cousin, Neji. She was happy that he was no longer so full of hatred and obsessed with fate. She actually liked talking to him now. "If you don't mind me asking Neji, what the hell was that?!"

Neji sighed and seemed to greatly sink into himself. "While Lee can't use genjutsu, Gai can. He calls it…" he hesitates but manages to force it out of his mouth with a grimace "The glorious expression of sunshine and youthful flames of happiness, springtime, and life genjutsu…"

Hikari and everyone else shivered from their sheer disgust.

Hikari turned to her assigned johnin sensei "Kakashi Sensei, how exactly could you deal with this for years on end with him as your rival?! That genjutsu makes that shitty sign transformation from earlier look like it was made by a Kage!"

Kakashi eye-smiled "Oh that? Well, I've trained myself to become immune to it over the years."

Gai "Alright Lee! Show them your flames of youth!"

Rock Lee nodded enthusiastically "Yes Gai Sensei!"

Naruto then walked up to everyone "Those two are so weird…"

Hikari gave Naruto a flat glare. "Couldn't have said it better myself, Naruto."

The Arena

Misumi Tsurugi and Rock Lee stood ready.

Hayate Gekkō "Begin!"

Rock Lee started by kicking Misumi Tsurugi but was surprised when his kick did almost nothing but weirdly giggle his flesh.

Misumi Tsurugi waited for him to hit again. When he did he started wrapping himself around his entire body by constricting him with his soft physique modification. "I got you now!" Rock Lee tried to get out but he didn't have the strength or leverage to do so.

Gai "Common Lee! Let the flames of youth set you free from that trap!"

Rock Lee "Are you sure Gai Sensei?!"

Gai gave a thumbs up and smiled. "I sure am Lee!"

Rock Lee "Yes Gai Sensei!" Rock Lee then dropped his weights on his body which gave him the strength to throw Misumi off of him and high into the air.

Misumi Tsurugi wove some hand signs while in the air "Water Style Water Dragon Jutsu!" Drawing some water from his mouth, Misumi made a dragon with yellow eyes shoot itself at Rock Lee.

Rock Lee however was much faster and dodged the dragon's water bullet attacks many times before jumping up and slamming his body into Misumi. Before Misumi Tsurugi could even pull off a substitution, he was easily battered through the wall itself and out into the forest of death where he flew clean through several dozen trees.

Hayate Gekkō "Winner! Rock Lee! Now can somebody go find where he landed?" *cough cough*

The Stands

Ino was gaping 'How the hell is that weirdo so strong?!'

Ino wasn't the only one however, all the other genin besides Hikari, Neji, and Tenten were starting with wide eyes.

Shikamaru "He's so strong… what a drag…"

Hikari deactivated her Byakugan "It's honestly quite impressive that he managed to do that without chakra enhancing his muscles."

Chōji "Chakra enhancing his muscles?"

Hikari nodded "Yeah, It's something that requires a massive amount of chakra control to apply effectively. It's the thing that gives Tsunade Senju her infamous strength. I also figured out how to do it on my own but I mostly use it to enhance the blows of my chakra conductive sword and increase my speed. For example, if my blade wasn't a custom-made sword made from high-grade chakra steel, then it would shatter from the weight behind my blows."

Tenten was interested and turned to her, especially after she mentioned replicating one of the abilities of Tsunade. In addition to that, she knew that chakra steel was extremely strong and even more expensive. "Can I see it?"

Hikari nodded and drew it from its storage seal. She then passed it in its sheath to her.

Tenten looked it over. Its handle was a simple wrapping one but she could tell it was excellent quality leather. She then took off the sheath and appraised the blade. She whistled in appreciation "This thing is a master-crafted piece of art, where did you get it?"

Hikari "Yu'raan's Steelworks."

Tenten froze "Yu'raan's Steelworks?! As in The Yu'raan's Steelworks?! The same family specializing in chakra steel that exclusively provided their services to the Senju Clan during the warring states period?!"

Hikari nodded "That's the one!"

Tenten looked at the blade in awe. "Do I even want to know how much this cost you?"

Hikari "One Million Ryo."

Everyone except Kakashi and Anko's eyes widened at that.

Kiba "Where the hell did you get so much money?!"

Hikari waved the question off. "Oh? I just found it in a hole somewhere."

Kakashi and Anko immediately knew from her wording that it came out of Orochimaru's fallback stash in his former hideout that she discovered and reappropriated for herself.

Hikari "That being said, they really live up to their reputation. I exclusively buy from them. It's a shame that I've been having to do it under a transformation jutsu. I'm under no Illusion that a long-time buyer bearing the Hyuuga name would be quite beneficial to them from a business standpoint."

Tenten was floored. "How can you afford to buy from them exclusively?!"

Hikari "To be honest, I don't use any metal weapons very often at all aside from my sword. I mostly use poisoned water-jutsu versions of them instead. However, if I need to draw them extremely quickly, their chakra conductive abilities allow me to quickly coat them in my poisoned water chakra to make a somewhat less powerful version without hand signs."

Tenten "Oh, that makes sense. I could never afford such a thing but you mostly use ninjutsu, taijutsu, kenjutsu, and genjutsu and thus could probably only go through a week's worth of my weapons supply in a few years or something."

Hayate Gekkō "Would Kiba Inuzuka and Tenten please come down for the next match?"

Tenten carefully and almost reverently resheathed the blade and handed it back to Hikari who resealed it back into its storage seal.

Tenten and Kiba then headed down to the arena.

The Arena

Kiba placed down Akamaru and got on all fours.

Tenten drew one of her storage scrolls.

Hayate Gekkō "Begin!"

Tenten activated the scroll and drew a katana and another scroll that she dropped to the ground at her feet. This was one of her anti-sensor scrolls, and they were really going to help here.

Kiba and Akamaru charged at her while she remained still but ready.

Kiba "Let's go Akamaru!"

Akamaru "Bark!"

When they got close, she jumped directly backward out of the way and activated the seal on the ground, releasing a cluster of stink bombs.

Being both blinded by the gas and unable to smell, Kiba and Akamaru were extremely disoriented and proved to be easy pickings to render unconscious with the pummel of her katana.

Hayate Gekkō "Winner, Tenten!"

The Stands

Ino "A stink bomb?! Really?! That's just so immature!"

Hikari "Come now Ino, you have to admit it's pretty ingenious. In fact, I think I need to have a talk with Tenten about her traps and seals…That being said, the fight was all and all pretty boring, but hey, she acted as a ninja should. Trickery is a powerful weapon, one that she used well to great effect against the hot-headed Kiba who charged in like an idiot."

Kakashi eye-smiled at her. "Well said Hikari."

Neji "A Lot of people forget that Tenten isn't just a master of weapons, but an expert at sealing and traps."

Hikari: "As I said, I'm going to have to get together and discuss that with her sometime. I'm still at a journeyman level at best."

Neji looked surprised "Really? And the Chakra Frequency Disruptor seal doesn't qualify you as a sealing expert?"

Hikari "Neji, you know as well as I do that I could only make that seal because I am...was a main branch Hyuuga and it's standard educational practice to teach each main family member on how to use the caged bird seal.

I just thought from the reverse to find a way to block this signal I was taught to project and to add the chakra harmlessly into your chakra system. The fact I was the first to think of this countermeasure, or at least apply it, is extremely depressing."

Neji "Hmm, I guess I can't refute that."

Hayate Gekkō "Would Shino Aburame and Kankurō please come down for the next match?"

Shino and Kankurō came down in a body flicker.

Hayate Gekkō "Begin!"

Shino started spewing his insects from his feet while Kankurō took out his puppet crow and sent it flying towards him.

Kankurō smirked 'You're mine!'

Shino however rushed forward to Kankurō. Kankurō then swept the puppet as close to himself as he could and impaled Shino in the heart, only for him to dissipate in a large cloud of bugs. These bugs started crawling towards him as well in small groups to avoid detection as much as possible.

Kankuro 'A clone technique? With insects? Where's the original?'

His answer came from directly above him at a rapid pace. Kankurō jumped backward to avoid being hit by a spear made of insects, the spear welding shino then turned into an insect clone and Kankurō landed right into the area some of Shino's insects crawled to when he wasn't looking.

Kankurō "You'll run out of the chakra to create these insect clones eventually!"

Shino "Will I?"

Kankurō looked down at his hands to see insects crawling over them. He could feel them sucking away his chakra. His puppet slammed to the ground with its strings cut and he was forced to be frozen in place. Kankurō 'What?!''

Shino "My Beatles on their own are not poisonous, but I dipped their mandibles in a paralytic poison. You have lost."

Shino then body flickered behind him to hit him on the back of his head and knock him out.

Hayate Gekkō "Winner, Shino Aburame!"

The Stands

Naruto "Common! That fight was short and boring!"

Hikari "A short and boring fight is oftentimes much better than a flashy ninjutsu duel. I mean sure I like them too but thinking tactically and outthinking your opponent will often yield efficient results."

Shikamaru yawned "What a drag...You sound like my father…"

Hayate Gekkō "Could Neji Hyuuga and Sasuke Uchiha please come down for the next match please?"

Sasuke looked excited "Finally!" He then body flickered down to the arena. Neji did the same.

Hayate Gekkō "Begin!"

Both Neji and Sasuke started weaving some hand signs

Neji "Water Style: Greater Water Bullet!" A giant orb of water came out of Neji's mouth and he slipped some poison in from a flask he held in his pocket.

Sasuke "Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!" A large flaming ball then came out of Sasuke's mouth and flew towards Neji.

As expected the two techniques met and turned into a mist. A poisoned mist.

Sasuke held his breath right before the two techniques met, a habit he created from sparring with Hikari.

Neji noted. "You should be paralyzed."

Sasuke smirked "Spiking your water jutsu with poison huh? You should know I frequently spar with the creator of that technique."

Neji immediately understood. "Of course, you would develop a countermeasure to use during spars with her."

Sasuke "It was Kakashi Sensei who did it actually. I am far more along in ninjutsu than you are, that was likely your best technique as of now was it not?"

Neji didn't respond but he got into the gentle fist opening stance.

Sasuke saw this and got ready too. He drew his sword and covered it in lightning chakra. The two ninjas then started clashing, with Neji blocking with the gentle fist and blowing away the blade's cloak of lightning, only for Sasuke to reapply it in the next strike.

Sasuke then quickly jumped back, sheathed his sword, and started performing some hand signs "Illusion Art: Sensory Disruption!"

Neji immediately felt all of his senses except his vision become out of whack. He felt extremely disoriented and extremely dizzy. He quickly fell to his knees.

The Stands

Hikari shook her head in mock disapproval. "Oh that little asshole, coping that technique with his Sharingan's eye of insight during a spar no doubt..."

Tenten looked at her team member then back to Hikari. "What exactly is that genjutsu, can't the Uchiha and Hyuuga see through such things?"

Hikari "We can see through visual genjutsus. I made this technique specifically to combat those with doujutsus. It creates extreme simultaneous feelings of dizziness, vertigo, nausea, and all-around non-visual disorientation all at the same time. Genjutsu is not limited to only Illusions after all, but manipulating any of the five senses."

Meanwhile back in the arena, Neji tried as hard as he could to make the genjutsu release sign but he couldn't and just fell over on his face and threw up.

Sasuke then quickly body flickered forward and knocked him out.

Hayate Gekkō "Winner Sasuke Uchiha!"

The Stands

Ino "Eww! That's so gross! It might have been Sasuke but that was so bad!"

Hikari looked at her in confusion. "What? It's just a bit of vomit? Compared to the smell of the dead and dying this is nothing."

Ino looked at her like she was a crazy and insane patient from an insane asylum while the jonin senseis in the room just nodded their heads in agreement.

Hayate Gekkō "Could Yoroi and Chōji Akimichi come down for the next match?"

Chōji "You know, I'm kinda having second thoughts about this…"

Asuma "If you participate then I will take you out to bbq."

Chōji's face lit up "Alright I'm going!" He then got up and went down to the arena alongside Yoroi.

The Arena

Hayate Gekkō "Begin!"

Chōji started off with his partial expansion jutsu and tried to hit him. Yoroi however just caught the fist and made it deflate as he stole Chōji's chakra. Chōji tried again and again but the result was the same and he kept losing more and more chakra.

The Stands

Ino "What's happening?!"

Hikari turned to her "That man Yoroi seems to have a natural ability similar to my chakra siphoning seals. It seems that he can absorb another person's chakra anywhere on his body through touch. In other words, it's a direct counter to a chakra enhanced strength based taijutsu style."

Shikamaru Nara "In other words, Chōji is almost certainly going to lose given his skills in an uncertain amount of time. What a drag…"

The Arena

Chōji saw this wasn't going anywhere so he tried a more powerful technique and started quicking rolling towards Yoroi. "Human Bullet!"

Yoroi saw this and quickly started backing up to the wall. He then moved out of the way at the last second. This caused Chōji to slam and get stuck into the wall. Yoroi then placed both hands on him and drained him of chakra until he rapidly deflated and fell into unconsciousness from chakra exhaustion.

Hayate Gekkō "Winner Yoroi!"

The Stands

Hikari "I think that was just a bad matchup, his abilities proved a direct counter to Chōji's"

Shikamaru "I agree. That kind of ability is such a drag..."

Hayate Gekkō "Could Shikamaru Nara and Kin Tsuchi come down for the next match?"

Shikamaru "As i just said, what a drag…"

Ino got up and pushed him "Just go you lazy ass!"

Shikamaru "Alright alright, I'm going, I'm going…"

The Arena

By the time Shikamaru got down Kin was stomping her foot in boredom.

Kin "Could you take any longer to get down here?!"

Shikamaru "What a drag, please calm down."

Hayate Gekkō "Begin!"

Kin started out by throwing senbon with bells on them towards Shikamaru. They flew past him and impacted the wall with a jingle.

Shikamaru "Really? What do you think I would not pay attention to the nonbell ones again?"

Kin smirked "I have you now!" She then flicked her strings to activate her sound genjutsu. She then threw some senbon into his arm to get closer to him.

Shikamaru ripped the senbon out of his arm and threw it back at Kin. She dodged them by jumping backward but quickly found herself frozen in place. "What?! But how?!"

Shikamaru "You made the mistake of not cutting the bell's strings. Thanks to them, my shadow possession jutsu has a direct line to your body."

Both Kin and Shikamaru then pulled a shuriken out of their pocket and aimed it.

Kin started to panic "Are you crazy?! If you throw that we'll both get hit!"

Shikamaru then threw it. Just before they both hit they leaned backward and dodged it.

Shikamaru leaned entirely backward while Kin slammed her head into the side of the wall.

Hayate Gekkō "Winner by Knockout, Skikumaru Nara!"

Shikamaru then rolled over and yawed before slowly walking back to the stands "What a drag…"

The Stands

Hikari "Well, there's a reason they say Shikamaru is a genius. The way he handled that fight was all but perfect in his tactical execution."

Tenten "I agree."

Shino "As do I"

Neji: "I do too. For the skills he has, that was nothing less than flawless."

Hayate Gekkō "Could Asuma Sarutobi please pick up Shikamaru Nara? He's taking too long to leave the arena. After that could Ino Yamanaka and Hinata Hyuuga come down for the next match?"

Asuma quickly picked up Shikamaru while Hinata and Ino then climbed down to the arena.

Ino 'This girl isn't into Sasuke and is thus not competition for him. I think I can go easy on her because of this.'

Hinata 'I-I'm sorry Ino, I hope I won't hurt you too much. The gentle fist can re-really hurt a lot s-sometimes.'

Hayate Gekkō "Begin!"

Hinata started by getting into the gentle fist opening stance as Ino drew her Kunai.

Both girls then started running towards each other and quickly started a kunai vs taijutsu battle. It was a battle that Hinata was actually showing to hold the upper hand in.

Ino then jumped backward and held her hands together 'Mind Transfer Jutsu!' Unfortunately for her, Hinata saw her holding up her hands and got out of its way just in time. Ino then slumped to the ground to Hinata's confusion.

Hayate Gekkō "Winner by Knockout: Hinata Hyuuga!"

The Stands

Naruto "Way to go Hinata! I knew you could do it!"

Hikari saw Hinata start blushing heavily and getting flustered when she heard him. 'Kami is Naruto dense. How he can't tell my distant cousin is hopelessly in love with him is beyond me. Well, it could be worse, she's a secret admirer instead of a fangirl; that I can tolerate.'

Hayate Gekkō "Could Dosu Kinuta and Zaku Abumi come down for the next match?"

Both Zaku and Dosu nodded and climbed down to the arena

The Arena

Hayate Gekkō "Begin!"

Zaku knew he had next to no chance to defeat Dosu, so he just went all out from the start.

Zaku "Decapitating Airwaves!" Two large blasts of air came out of his hands and rushed towards Dosu.

Dosu responded by blocking with his gauntlet and allowing it to activate his sound-based genjutsu. Zaku then quickly became paralyzed by the genjutsu. Dosu rushed forward and kicked him out with a hit to the back of the head.

Hayate Gekkō" Winner Dosu!"

The Stands.

Shikamaru Nara "Sound based Genjutsus are such a drag…"

Hayate Gekkō "Can Hikari Hyuuga and Gaara of the Sand please come forward?"

Temari whispered to her brother, both of whom were now awake, healed, and watching the matches. "It was nice knowing that girl."

Kankurō whispered back "Yep, she's dead."

Both Hikari and Gaara came forward in a body flicker.

Hayate Gekkō "Begin!"

Hikari immediately activated her Byakugan, chakra armor, unsealed and activated her toxic katana, and deactivated all her resistance seals. She had a hunch this was going to be the hardest fight of her life. She didn't know why but the sheer menace of this boy's chakra made her feel bad in all the wrong ways.

Garra responded by sending nemours fast-moving tendrils of sand at her that she easily managed to dodge with her extreme speed, only appearing as a black and white blur.

Hikari didn't want to bust out Vishnu yet as she wanted to test herself. So she wove the hand signs for another jutsu 'Water Style: Vortex Chakram!' She condensed the water in the air and turned it into a typhoon-like whirlpool on land that flew towards Garra.

Garra responded by releasing all the sand in his gourd to block it. When the jutsu dissipated, he retracted the sand back into his gourd. However, Hikari noticed some sand was wet and he left it on the ground... That gave her an idea.

Hikari then proceeded to weave the same hand signs again 'Water Style: Vortex Chakram!'

As she predicted, Garra once again drew out his sand to block the incoming typhoon of water. Hikari then proceeded to perform some more hand signs 'Water Style: Monsoon Rain!'

The water near the roof of the room immediately condensed and started a torrential downpour. As expected Garra went to block the Vortex Chakram with his sand, but that sand was rapidly falling to the ground at a faster and faster rate due to the sheer amount of water falling on it from her other jutsu. The water level in the room started rapidly rising in the fighting area to form a small lake, making Hikari jump in the air and land on top of the water's surface.

Seeing the problem he just made for himself, Gaara tried to retract back his sand but it was too late, all his sand, including his gourd itself, were turned into wet and muddy sand by the massive amounts of water raining over him that filled the entire arena with water throughout the jutsu.

Gaara was soon totally submerged and Hikari was quick to take advantage of this and wove some hand signs 'Water Style: Riptide Blades!'

Immediately Gaara was slammed around by dozens of blades made out of water but he managed to eventually swim to the surface covered in stone armor mostly unscathed.

Hikari looked at the armor made of stone surrounding Garra. 'Right… Sand is just highly ground up rocks…He can't use sand anymore, but he can use its base element.'

Gaara was furious. "I'll kill you! Mother screams for your blood! She shall receive it!"

The Stands

Kakashi and Anko smiled at the display of their student's power while everyone other than Naruto and Sasuke were shocked.

Kiba "Where the hell did all that water come from?! There's now an entire lake down there! How is she so fast?!"

Neji "Hikari has an ability last notably had by the second Hokage Tobirama Senju, she can draw water from the air to use in her ninjutsus."

Kiba "How does Hikari have so much speed and power?!"

Neji removed his headband to show two crossed lines covered by a spiral that was all contained within a hexagon. This hexagon then had two outwardly curving lines coming off the left and right of it.

"I also proudly bear the seal she created that made the Hyuuga revolution possible in the first place."

Tenten looked at her teammates' forehead "What is that over your clan's seal Neji?"

Neji "It is the chakra frequency disruptor seal, a seal Hikari made that blocks the frequency used to activate the caged bird seal."

Neji smiled before continuing. "Watching the faces of the main family trying and failing at activating it while we overthrew the elders was glorious! It was apparently even better than what witnesses watching the faces of the elders as Hikari permanently removed their ability to mold chakra in their hands said was."

Kiba "She can remove a person's ability to mold chakra?!"

Neji "What do you think happens when someone slices apart a portion of their chakra system? She used her Byakugan to see the chakra pathways in each of the elders' hands to be able to slice them apart with her chakra scalpels."

Tenten "That's amazing! So what level is she at?"

Neji "Low Kage level."

Kiba looked at Neji in disbelief. "That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!"

Kakashi decided to interject "Age doesn't really matter all that much sometimes. I was in ANBU at her age. To be perfectly honest, she's far stronger than I was at that age. Neji is completely correct. Hikari is at a low Kage level."

All the genin except Naruto and Sasuke stared at him.

The Arena

Gaara's face was one of pure fury. "Mother screams for your blood and death!" He quickly wove some hand signs "Earth Style: Rock Crush!"

Hikari immediately jumped into the air and out of the way, easily avoiding being crushed by two rectangular blocks of earth that made a huge splash while coming out of the lake and slammed into each other.

Gaara wove some more hand signs "Earth Style: Spears of Stone!" Fifteen massive pillars of rock suddenly flew out of the lake towards Hikari.

Hikari then got into a position that was familiar yet different to what Neji's teammates saw him do 'Your attack is in the realm of my divination. Slicing Fist, 128 poisoned blades!' Immediately she began rapidly shredding the incoming stone projectiles into naught but steaming green goop that slowly sunk to the bottom of the lake. It was a bit of an unintended bonus that the goop piles were slowly poisoning the lake.

As she had applied her siphoning seal onto both of her palms at one point, she also drained all the chakra out of the jutsu to add back to her chakra storage seals.

The Stands

Kiba just stared with his mouth open.

Neji "She calls that her Slicing Fist, 128 poisoned blades."

Kiba: "But why is it green? and steaming?"

Neji "Said poison is extremely acidic."

The Arena

Hikari decided it was time to do some offensive taijutsu and body flickered towards Gaara leaving a tall wake of water behind her in the process. Gaara of course had a wall of earth quickly intercept her attack.

Hikari wove some hand signs 'Multi Clone Jutsu!' With that fifteen illusionary clones of Hikari appeared around Gaara. They all struck as one but Gaara somehow knew which was the real one as the earth barrier protected from the attack from the real Hikari.

Hikari 'Alright, that's not going to work, this boy is clearly some type of sensor.' she then released her multi-clone jutsu and wove some hand signs 'Water Style: Invisibility Cloak!' 'Illusion Art: Sound Muffling!' Hikari had a thin film of water flow over her body and with a ripple, she disappeared from all the senses of everyone in the room.

The Stands

Kiba "Where is she? I can't smell her when I should. Smell isn't a factor for an invisibility genjutsu!"

Neji corrected him. "Invisibility Ninjutsu."

Kiba looked confused "Excuse me?"

Sasuke "It's an invisibility ninjutsu. It's also made in a way so that neither my Sharingan nor Neji's Byakugan can see her. At least in this state of the jutsu anyway."

The Arena

Hikari then proceeded to slowly come up behind Gaara. While she couldn't see chakra points or use her Byakugan without giving herself away to someone with keen eyesight or a sensor, she knew the general area of chakra points and the exact area of pressure points that overlapped with some chakra points.

Hikari wove some hand signs 'Water Style: Invisibility Cloak Extension!' Hikari's water cloak expanded slightly to make more space. Hikari then made the hand sign for a shadow clone 'Shadow Clone Jutsu!' Five Hikari's then popped into existence next to her.

These clones then wove two sets of hand signs 'Water Style: Invisibility Cloak!' 'Illusion Art: Sound Muffling!' Then the original Hikari wove another set of hand signs 'Water Style: Invisibility Cloak Receded!'

The six Hikari's then went around and positioned themselves directly over a pressure point. Then they rapidly struck as one and pushed a pulse of chakra from their fingertips 'Gentle fist: Six Point Incapacitation!'

Gaara was out before he could even be surprised. Hikari then released the invisibility cloak and muffling genjutsu before letting the shadow clones puff out of existence.

Hikari turned to the proctor who was currently up in the stands "I win."

Hayate Gekkō *Cough cough* "Winner Hikari Hyuuga by knockout!" 'I'm really glad this is the last preliminary match because it's going to take days to get all this water out…'

Everyone from the hidden sand were shocked beyond belief, Gaara had been forcibly rendered unconscious. Fear then gripped their hearts as they knew that with Gaara becoming entirely unconscious, the Ichibi would come out.

As for the hidden sound, they were very upset because the invasion was nowhere near ready to happen yet and Gaara was their biggest trump card next to lord Orochimaru himself!

Gaara's prone body ripped with oppressive chakra that quickly flowed out to take the form of a massive sand-colored dog-raccoon. Unfortunately, the emergence of the Ichibi immediately broke apart the tower arena into four large portions and various splitters that fell away in a massive cloud of dust and a massive splash of water. Everyone quickly jumped to a safe location.

Ichibi "YEAH BABY! I'M FINALLY BACK! WHO'S FINALLY BACK? I'M FINALLY BACK! NOW IT'S TIME FOR ALL YOU STUPID AND WEAK HUMANS TO DIE PAINFULLY FUN DEATHS!"

Hikari: "I'm fighting a tailed beast?! Are you kidding me?! Sasuke, Kakashi, Lord Third! You all know what we must do!"

Said people nodded and bit their thumbs before all going through the same hand signs and slamming them on the ground.

Hikari / Sasuke / Kakashi / Hiruzen Sarutobi "Summoning Jutsu!"

In four massive puffs of smoke, the massive forms of Sandro the snake boss, Hydria the cat boss, Kannodu the giant husky dog boss, and the monkey boss Enma appeared.

Hurizen Sarutobi "Everyone else needs to get as far away from this place as possible! Get the other genin to safety within the leaf village itself! Those are my orders!" As soon as he said that, the other jonin immediately grabbed the genin and left to get away from the destructive battle.

Sandro "Oh so that's why you've summoned me, you're fighting the semi-unleashed form of the Ichibi. You always summon me for battles worthy of my skills, Hikari!"

Hikari "Compliments later. How do we defeat it?"

Sandro "Direct and to the point then. Very well. We need to wake the medium, a.k.a Gaara. Since he isn't truly broken out, Gaara's head should be near the Ichibi's forehead, asleep. If we wake him, he is sent back into its seal fully."

Hikari "Is this area defended?"

Sandro "Other than being in an inconvenient place? It's located behind a powerful sand barrier disguised as the beast's normal forehead. Only being hit repeatedly by powerful jutsus, preferably lightning ones, could you hope to wear it down enough to awaken the medium by inflicting pain."

Kannodu "In that case, I will supply the lightning jutsu! Storm Style: Energy Storm!" A massive continuous stream of lightning bolts then started rapidly striking the Ichibi. This turned much of the beast into fulgurite before it broke out and the process repeated again and again, distracting it to a sufficient level of making it unable to attack anymore.

Ichibi "STUPID MORTALS! GIVE ME A CHANCE TO KILL YOU ALL!"

Hikari "Have you fought one of the previous Ichibi Jinchūrikis before?!"

Sandro "I have, so I know what I'm saying is true."

Hikari "We need to restrain him somehow! The dog boss…"

Kannodu "My name is Kannodu!"

Hikari "The dog boss Kannodu is busy making sure he can't attack anymore, but we need to restrain it to be able to attack its forehead!"

Enma nodded "Hurizen, get off me, I need to transform fully for this!"

The Third Hokage understood and jumped off "I understand!"

Enma then turned his entire body into a massive snake-den of extending staves. These staves then rushed towards the Ichibi and tightly constricted himself around him. He managed to slow him down greatly but couldn't do more than that.

Sandro "Excellent job, Enma! I couldn't have done it better myself!"

Ichibi "HOW DARE YOU PUNY MORTALS TRY TO RETRAIN ME TOO?!" The Ichibi immediately started forming red and blue chakra around his mouth. "YOU IDIOTS WILL ALL REGRET BEING BORN!"

Sandro immediately saw the technique the Ichibi was trying to pull and he couldn't have that. It seemed that while it couldn't use ninjutsu anymore it could still use this devastating attack.

The tailed beast bomb was not something he wanted to deal with, not now and not ever. "Venom Style: Acid Spike!" a spear of green acidic snake venom quickly rammed itself into the Ichibi mouth, distracting it. This had the desired effect of canceling the creation of the tailed beast bomb.

Hydria "I'll keep him busy alongside Kannodu and Enma! If it fires off a tailed beast bomb then we're going to have major problems! Inferno Style: Solar Devastation!" Massive waves of plasma-infused chakra flew towards the opposite side of the Ichibi Kannodu was attacking with a storm of lightning, turning much of it to glass, restraining it fully. It quickly reformed but not at a fast enough rate to move.

Ichibi "STUPID MORTALS, LET ME GO RIGHT NOW! I DEMAND IT! LET ME ATTACK YOU AND LET ME MOVE!"

Enma "Your lucky one of my skills include ninjutsu absorption Hydria, as without it I would be scorched to death! It stings like hell as it is with Kannodu's lightning storm!"

Hikari "I have an idea! What if I were to drain the chakra from the sand barrier to drop it?! I've recently created a water jutsu incorporating my siphoning seals placed on my body to drain chakra upon contact with it!"

Sandro "It wouldn't work, tailed beast chakra is extremely corrosive, only wood-style based chakra absorption allowed for safe conversion."

Hikari: "But what if I weren't going to convert it? What if I just siphoned it and let it out into the air with just the seals themselves!"

Sandro pondered that. "That might actually work… Get on it! Venom Style: Acid Stream!" a large stream of acidic snake venom started spewing from his mouth and over the front of the Ichibi.

Enma "Hey watch it! That really hurts Sandro!"

Hikari activated one of her chakra storage seals to replenish herself and then took out a few hundred chakra siphoning seals from its corresponding storage seal. From here she wove some hand seals 'Water Style: Water Kunai Storm!' With that, each of the siphoning seals was attached to each individual kunai and flew towards the forehead of the Ichibi. Thanks to it being constrained, it hit and each seal landed on the Ichibi's forehead and stuck there with a spider web of Kanji anchoring each of them there.

Hikari made a single hand sign and directed her chakra frequency at the seals on the Ichibi's forehead. 'Seal!'

Immediately the Ichibi thrashed in even farther rage as the siphoning seals sucked up the sand-colored chakra of the beast and sent it out in a myriad of geysers from the opposite end of the seals.

Sandro "Venom Style: Toxic Mist!" A green mist then flowed out of Sandro's mouth and floated over to the Ichibi. Once it got there it got in its eyes.

Ichibi "OW! OW! OW! GET THIS STUPID POISON OUT OF MY EYES YOU STUPID FUCKING SNAKE!"

The chakra siphoned off was slowly edging back towards the Ichibi, but it was, fortunately, being siphoned off faster than it was rejoining with the beast. Unfortunately, her seals were starting to quickly wear down from the effects of the highly corrosive tailed beast chakra flowing through them.

However twenty seconds later, about thirty seconds before Hikari calculated the seals were going to completely burn out, the sand shield fully dropped.

Hikari immediately pushed chakra into her leg muscles and sped towards Gaara's head. Once there she hit him and woke him up.

The Ichibi wailed in outrage. "NO! I JUST WOKE UP! YOU STUPID MORTALS! I HATE YOU AL-"

With that, the battle was over, the boss summons reverse summoned themselves back to their homes and Gaara started to fall to the ground towards a sharp fragment of the destroyed tower after the beast was fully resealead. Right before he was impaled through the head and died, however, he was saved by Hikari.

Gaara rasped "Why… Why did you save me from death?! You have proved your existence was greater than mine!"

Hikari "There are other ways to show other people you exist besides killing...I do not like killing unnecessarily, sometimes my hand is forced but I hate it all the same. I have a friend who is just like you Gaara. He too is a Jinchūriki but unlike you, he managed to form bonds with others. He wants to show everyone who thought he was a monster that he's not the being that he holds.

He wants to do this by becoming Hokage. This way he can protect everyone in the village, the opposite of what a demonic tailed beast would do…"

Gaara just stared at her "I think… I think I would like to meet this Naruto you speak of…"

Hikari smiled. "I would be happy to help you with that, Gaara."

Gaara actually started crying "You...you're the first one who's ever accepted me…"

Hikari "What about your siblings?"

Gaara "They do not accept me, they hate and fear me like everyone else but you do."

Hikari "Then why don't you try to turn that fear and hatred into love? To show them you actually care about them?"

Gaara "I...I might try that…"

It was then that the third Hokage stepped up to her with a proud smile on his face. "Hikari Hyuuga, the will of fire burns brightly inside of you. You have turned a deep hatred into the beginnings of love.

As for your actions in helping to swiftly defeat the Ichibi, I Hurizen Sarutobi, use the power invested in me as The Third Hokage to hereby field promote you to the rank of Jonin of the village hidden in the leaves."

Hikari "Thank you lord third! But… but what about the chunin exams?"

Hurizen Sarutobi "I'll deal with that issue later…" he then turned over to Sasuke. "Sasuke Uchiha, I offer you an opportunity. I am willing to field promote you to the rank of chunin for your actions in helping to defeat the Ichibi. That being said, if I were to do this then you would be skipping the final fights in the exams, something I know an Uchiha would almost certainly never turn down the chance to do. Because of this, I am willing to let you continue to act in the finals but get a guaranteed spot as a Chunin. What do you say?"

Sasuke looked at the third Hokage in gratitude "Thank you lord third, but it is as you said. I do not want to miss the finals and therefore I accept the guaranteed spot as a chunin."

Hurizen Sarutobi nodded "Very well then, let us return to the village. I suspect you will be cooperative Gaara?"

Gaara "Yes I will be. That being said, The Hidden Sand has allied with the Hidden Sound and its Kage Orochimaru. There is an invasion planned to occur next month right after the finals that is to be led by Orochimaru himself with the aim to destroy the leaf village."

The mood suddenly turned serious.

The Third Hokage looked at him sternly. "Will you cooperate with our integration?"

Gaara "I will, but I suggest you don't go into my mind with one of your Yamanakas. They would be turned insane as going into my mind would expose them to the presence of the Ichibi."

Hurizen Sarutobi sighed, so it was confirmed, his old pupil was here to attempt to destroy the leaf village…

Nearby off in the forest.

White Zetsu "Her strength continues to grow at an astonishing rate. She's even fully reformed the Hyuuga clan by force now."

Black Zetsu "Unimportant. The Hyuuga clan may have gotten significantly stronger, but they are still but infants compared to the things the proto-Hyuuga clan of Hamura's day could do with their chakra and Byakugans. Need I even mention the evolution of the Tenseigan that we made them slowly forget about over thousands of years?

It would take decades or even centuries to rediscover and regain what they were once capable of, while the Infinite Tsukuyomi will be cast before the end of the half-decade."

White Zetsu "That makes sense I suppose."

Black Zetsu "That being said, the redevelopment of the blood of Hamura is nothing but an irrelevant factor this late in the endgame. Remember that we are not here to observe her, but the Ichibi and Kyūbi Jinchūrikis in battle and plan accordingly. This way we will send the two Akatsuki members most suited to defeat and capture them once we begin collecting the tailed beasts."

White Zetsu "I know that. It was merely my perspective. So what do you think for the Ichibi's?"

Black Zetsu "Kisume would be well suited because of his sand's weakness to water and Sasori due to his durability. Although if we are to utilize his sand's weakness to water, then we must lure him away from the desert. If we are forced to fight in the desert then Deidara would be a possible stand-in."

White Zetsu "And the Kyūbi's?"

Black Zetsu "Wind is weak to lightning. We will use Kakazu. His teammate will be Itachi Uchiha as his Mangekyou Sharingan has the ability to the control tailed beast as Indra's last transmigrant, Madara Uchiha, proved."

White Zetsu "So who are the current transmigrants?"

Black Zetsu "Asura's transmigrant is yet unknown. Indra's transmigrant could possibly have been slain by Itachi or it could even be Itachi himself. If the former is the case, then it will be a descendant of Sasuke who becomes the next transmigrant after the yet unknown transmigrant of Asura dies."

White Zetsu "So it won't happen until after the infinite Tsukuyomi is cast. That is fortunate."

Black Zetsu "That's only if Sasuke or Itachi isn't one of Indra's transmigrants."

With that, they both phased away back into the tree.

Later That Day: The Hokage Office.

Hurizen Sarutobi smiled. "Hikari Hyuuga, for your aid and befriending Gaara, I would like to personally give you your flak jacket." He then went over to a bin and took it out alongside her certificate.

Hikari accepted it but she had a question, one that had waited far too long. "Lord Third? May I ask you an honest question? One of a… peculiar and interesting nature shall we say? Perhaps about the grapes from this year's harvest?"

ANBU-speak for a request for activating the privacy seals hidden in the room.

The Hokage did so and looked at Hikari expectantly.

Hikari looked at the Hokage angrily but had her voice remain calm. "When were you planning on telling Naruto about his true parentage?"

The third Hokage looked stunned.

Hikari "Don't give me that look, he's the spitting image of the fourth, has the last name Uzumaki like Minato Namikaze's wife Kushina Uzumaki, and is the Jinchūriki of the Kyūbi like her. A demon said to only be able to be sealed within one who possesses the extreme life force of the Uzumaki Clan."

The Third Hokage sighed. He was about to respond when Hikari then did something she would deny doing to her dying day, she ranted to and insulted the Third Hokage, the second god of shinobi.

"Almost every single decision you have ever made minus giving him a house has been the worst possible one! You've made Naruto's life a living hell by making it illegal upon death to speak of the Kyūbi and have yet not made it illegal to discriminate against him!

And it's not like your law did any good because the Kami damned lynch mobs got around this by calling him a demon instead of specifying which demon! I swear I'm not sure if your just incompetent or Danzō and his fucking Root just wanted to provoke him enough into releasing some Kyūbi chakra to take him away 'For his own and others safety.' They probably would have even succeeded eventually if Naruto wasn't such a kind person!

Oh and don't get me fucking started on Root, how the hell could you let that continue to exist, even unofficially! Their training methods alone should have gotten him executed! We are not the Kami damned bloody mist village!

You preach the will of fire but from where I'm standing, you have all but abandoned it!"

Hikari was breathing heavily and soon realized where she was. Her face flushed with horror and embarrassment as she realized what she just said and to who she said it.

The Third Hokage just sat back down at his desk and put his head in his hands. He then looked at her sadly. It was at that moment that the second god of shinobi showed his true age.

"You are entirely correct Hikari...I've tried my best in my life but it's never been enough... I knew my old age was influencing my decision-making back when I named Naruto's father as the fourth Hokage. Ever since the day he died and I took the hat back up again, I've tried my best, I really have...It's never been enough…Never enough..."

Hikari just stood motionless.

Hurizen Sarutobi "If anything, I must thank you for your bluntness. I know it was a heat of the moment slip but I've been surrounded by yes-men too long. I needed that reality check...So please relax, you're not in any trouble."

Hikari tried but her efforts were clearly visible.

Hurizen Sarutobi "I'm guessing you've gotten all this information from Orochimaru's old lair you've appropriated?"

Hikari nodded "Yes Lord Hokage."

Hurizen Sarutobi "Honestly, I was planning to tell him once he became a Jonin."

Hikari looked at him "Do you really think the hidden stone would risk a war? I know they hate the yellow flash but to be that petty?"

Hiruzen Sarutobi "Yes"

Hikari sighed "Ok fine. Why haven't you made him the clan heir apparent of the Uzumaki Clan?"

Hurizen Sarutobi "Mist and Stone…"

Hikari "The Hidden Mist in the troves of a massive civil war right now. They would not declare a foreign war while fighting a domestic one. As for stone, do you really think an Uzumaki with clearly diluted blood would be something they would declare war over?"

Hurizen Sarutobi "I thought that if attention went his way then his father's identity…"

Hikari "Forge him a half Yamanaka civilian father, one who died on the night of the Kyūbi attack. His father had a genetic mutation that made his hair a much more yellow shade of blonde. His 'Son' Naruto inherited this."

The Third Hokage looked at her and appeared to be considering it. "That might actually work…"

Hikari "...So, can we discuss Danzō now? You do realize he's just a new Orochimaru? Your sentimentality is once more being exploited by an immoral madman."

Hiruzen Sarutobi "...You're right...I have once more been blinded by sentimentality...I will do what I should have done years ago, as much as it pains me…" he then deactivated the privacy seals "Jonin Hikari Hyuuga, I once more congratulate you on becoming a Jonin at such a young age. Now I really must get back to work."

Hikari nodded "Goodbye Lord Third, thank you."

The Third Hokage watched her as she left in a body flicker.

'She may not want the position like Naruto, but she would one day make an outstanding Hokage. Oh well, Tsunade would make an excellent Hokage as well but she also doesn't want the position either. No use getting upset over spilled milk I suppose.'

Late At Night: Hikari's Lair

Hikari 'Yin release is the foundation of genjutsu and governs both the mind and the spirit. Yang release is the foundation for medical ninjutsu and governs the body.

Chakra is a combination of the physical and spiritual energies of the body. What if I were to combine yin-based chakra and yang-based chakra outside the body in a way similar to how chakra is formed inside it? A yin-yang release of sorts?'

'….I'll have to study that.'

Elsewhere: Danzō's Main Root Base.

Danzō was walking down the hallway when he came upon the two dead bodies of his allies Homura and Koharu. Standing above them was the Third Hokage holding a katana cloaked in wind-enhanced fire chakra.

Danzō regarded him "So it has come to this? You've actually grown some backbone and have come to kill me?"

Hurizen Sarutobi looked at him sadly but filled with determination. "I'm doing what I should have done long ago."

Danzō took off his arm covering and threw it on the ground, just to show his white arm with ten Sharingan implanted within.

The Third Hokage was disgusted "To use his genetic material to create this abomination?! You have fallen this far?!" 'Hikari was right...He's just a new Orochimaru…How could I have been so blind? Both back then and right now?'

Danzō "Everything I have ever done is all for that sake-"

Hiruzen Sarutobi "-Of the hidden leaf village." He finished for him "That may be what you've deluded yourself into thinking, but it's anything but the truth."

Danzō drew his sword as well and covered it with a sheath of wind-enhanced fire chakra of his own. "So.. shall we begin, my old friend?"

The Third Hokage nodded and two sets of black rings appeared around his eyes, showing he activated his sage mode "Yes, let us begin."
