Randy smiled at her sadly and approached the witness stand. "Tricia, can you tell us what happened the night you were attacked?"
"I had left the gym after working out with my trainer and ex-boyfriend, Alex Riley. I walked into my apartment and someone grabbed me from behind."
"And what happened then?"
"He put his hand over my mouth and dragged me to the bedroom. He threw me on the bed and tied me to it with zip ties. I begged him not to do anything. But he put a piece of duct tape over my mouth. He ripped off my clothes and he bit my breast. I started crying and he hit me hard across the face." She said trying to keep her emotions in check.
"What happened next?" Randy asked. He hated that he had to make her relive it but the jury had to know what Wade had done.
"He said he was going to be gentle with me but he had changed his mind. He moved my legs apart and forced himself inside me." She felt a tear slid down her cheek. She wiped it with her hand. "He then turned me so the zip ties cut into my wrists and I was on my hands and knees facing away from him. He pushed himself inside me again. He was rough as he thrusted into me. He then started beating me across the back with his belt. He finished with me and then he hit me one more time before he said 'Tell your brother I said hi.' Then he left." She wiped more tears as they had started to fall.
Quinn put her hand on Chris's leg to keep it from bouncing up and down. He looked over at her and she grabbed his hand. She leaned over. "Let's step outside." He nodded and they walked out.
Tricia saw Chris and Quinn leave and sighed. "Tricia, before your attack, had you ever met Wade Barrett?" Randy asked.
"No. I knew who he was because I saw the story in the papers but I had never met him."
"Nothing further your honor. But I reserve the right to recall this witness at a later time."
"So noted." The judge said. "Mr. Cole, your witness."
"Ms. Irvine, it is your contention that you and Mr. Barrett had never met?"
"Yes. Before he raped me, I had never met Mr. Barrett."
"But you both go to the same gym. How could you not have met him?"
"It's a big gym and I don't know everyone."
"Ms. Irvine, I find it coincidental that you and Mr. Barrett go to the same gym but you say you've never met."
"Like I said, it's a big gym and I don't know everyone who goes there."
"Ms. Irvine, isn't it true that you in fact do know Mr. Barrett? That on the night of your "supposed" attack, you saw Mr. Barrett in the gym. You liked him. And you're the one who invited him back to your place for sex."
"No. I never saw him in the gym. I never met him and I certainly didn't invite him to have sex with me."
"Have you ever had rough sex before?"
"No, I haven't." She replied.
"You're never been restrained or used handcuffs or any sex toys?"
"I didn't say that."
"But you just said you had never had rough sex. Were you lying?"
"Objection. Your honor, relevance?"
"Your honor, I'm trying to establish that Ms. Irvine likes rough sex."
"Overruled but make your point Mr. Cole."
"Ms. Irvine, do you like S&M sex?"
"I'm not above being restrained or experimenting with different sexual things but I do not like rough sex where someone hits you or beats you. Forces themselves inside against your will." She sobbed. "He raped me, tortured and beat me. I was afraid he was going to kill me. And no matter what anyone is into sexually, nobody deserves to have the things he did to me done to them. Nobody."
"No further questions." He said walked back to the table.
The judge looked at Tricia. "You may step down." She nodded and slowly walked back to her seat. "I'm calling a fifteen minute recess." He pound the gavel.
Tricia sat down and tried to calm down. "You were great. You told the truth and that's what's important." Jon said as they sat there.
"Thanks." She sighed. "I guess Chris couldn't take things and left."
"He did seem pretty upset."
Quinn and Chris walked out of the courtroom and punched the wall. "Chris."
"Did you hear everything that freak did to her?" He said pacing. "I mean I knew what he did but to hear Tricia say it and to hear what she was thinking during it. It's just hard because it's my fault. He did this because she just happened to be my sister."
"This is not your fault. It's not like you asked him to do it or gave him permission to."
"I know that." He snapped. "Sorry. I just wish he had come after me personally instead of going after her."
"He figured the best way to get to you was to go after the person you loved the most."
"And he was right. Tricia means more to me than anything. I hate that she's going through this." He looked up as Jon and Tricia walked over. "Did the rest of the testimony go okay?"
"Yeah." Jon replied. "Quinn, can I talk to you?"
"Sure." She said walking over to the side.
Tricia turned to Chris. "I'm sorry you had to hear everything. I really am."
"I'm sorry you had to go through that because of me."
"It's not really your fault. Wade is a psycho."
"It is my fault. He went after the one thing I care about more than anything." Tricia sighed.
"Chris, this wasn't your fault. You had no idea he was going to do this. I don't want you to blame yourself. Hopefully he will get what's coming to him when the trial is done."
"I hope so." Chris replied. "I really hope so."
Quinn looked at Jon as they stood off to the side. "So, how was everything after we left?"
"Wade's lawyer really went after her. He tried everything to place doubt that it was rape. He tried to convince everyone it was consensual."
"How'd she hold up?"
"Like a champ. She told them that no matter what anyone was into sexually, nobody deserved what she went through."
"Do you think the jury believe her?"
"I do. I think this time Wade will pay for what he did." He looked over at Tricia and Chris. "Chris, still blaming himself?"
"Yes and I don't think it will change anytime soon." She sighed. "You didn't know Tricia before this. She's sweet and kind. Always a friend to anyone. She never does anything wrong to anyone. She's just this sweet girl. And now, Chris's worried that will change in her."
"I don't think it will. She's still more concerned with others than she is herself." He replied. "She's worried about Chris. About him blaming himself for this. She really is a one of kind." He looked over at her and Chris just as one of her ex boyfriends walked up.
"Tricia." Dwayne said to her.
"Hey." She replied. "Thank you for being here."
"I'll let you guys talk." Chris said walking over to Quinn and Jon.
"I wouldn't be anywhere else." Dwayne replied after Chris had left. "Plus I do have to testify."
"Because they want to prove I'm a sex craze person." She sighed.
"But that's not true and I intend to tell them that. Tricia, I probably know you better than most. And no one is going to believe that you wanted to be with him."
"I hope so." She replied. "I really wish I had gone out with you that night. Then this might not have happened."
"Don't blame yourself for this. And don't live with the what ifs. We're going to make the son of a bitch pay for what he did to you."
"Thanks." She smiled a little bit.
"Anytime." He said. "Maybe we have lunch or dinner soon? If you feel up to it?"
"Sure. I guess that would be okay."
"Great. Well, I'm going to head back in. See you soon."
She nodded and walked over to where Quinn, Chris and Jon were standing.
"Word is you did great in there." Quinn said.
"I just told the truth."
"Well I'm sure it made the impression it should have."
"I hope so."
"Let's head back in." Chris said to her. She nodded and followed. She hoped everyone was right about her testimony. That it made the impression it should have. And Wade would go to prison.
