Chapter 13

"Oh look at that, you're a completely different Shinigami than Rem aren't you? I already know your name it's Ryuk right?" She waves to him. "It's nice to meet you." He waves back to be nice.

"Yeah... Same here" Looking away I sigh glad he's actually behaving.

"Oh by the way Kira, do you know how to kill a Shinigami?"

Okay, the question is. Play stupid or just tell her? "No, I can't say I've heard that." I lean back against the wall taking off my hat and brushing my bangs out of my eyes I listen to her relaying what Rem told her. I have to start being nicer to this girl otherwise my other plan won't work.

"So let me get this straight. If a shinigami has feelings for a human and kills someone else in order to extend that human's life beyond that human's natural end then that Shinigami will die?"

"That's right." So she told me this story as another way for me to trust her. To try and become friends with me. I see.

Ryuk laughs. "Good luck with finding a Shinigami who will volunteer to do that."

"That's true, I can't see you ever doing that. By the way. Where did you end up sending all of those tapes from? The ones that went to the TV stations?" Misa looks happy I actually asked, it's good to keep the conversation going so she'll trust me.

"Let's see..." She brings her finger to her cheek as she looks right remembering all the places. Naming them off one by one "I took the bullet train every time so that way the police couldn't pinpoint my location."

"Alright, one more thing. Do you still have the videotapes and envelopes with your friend's fingerprints on them?"

"Uhuh"

"Well, you'll have to dispose of everything that was used to create those videotapes understand? But before you do, I need you to send three last videos. Make sure they are from places you haven't used yet. The first, I wish you to send the video you were already planning on sending in order to meet me. But instead of going, I want you to do something for me before sending the second. I'll send you what they should say through a text when I am ready for you to mail either of them. Can you do this?"

"There is no need to ask, just tell me what to do and I'll do it because I'd do anything for Kira."

"There is one more thing that is very important."

"What's that?"

"If you get arrested by the police or if you are ever brought in for questioning you can never mention anything about us being in contact or the death note." I walk over to my computer stand and gently lean my side against it crossing my arms. "As long as they don't get a hold of that notebook there is no proof that you did anything." I pause taking the time to let everything sink in for her. "Do you promise to say nothing?"

"I promise."

"L already suspects that I'm the Kira killing the criminals. So we have to limit our contact do you understand?" I decide to throw this in knowing Misa from the anime she'll try to meet up with me whenever she can.

"No way L is amazing, I mean... Everyone is saying that he's been getting nowhere with the investigation and that he is a complete idiot and stuff. But he already knows that much?"

"Anyway. Because of that, I've been able to meet L."

"So you and L are in contact with each other? Then that's even more amazing. This is getting so exciting!"

"Even though he suspects I'm Kira he figures he is safe as long as I don't know his real name, he came right out and told me who he was just to try and get to me. However, he is only focusing on me because he has no other suspects and he has no evidence."

"Great so all you have to do is take me to where L is and I can see his real name for you."

"I'm afraid it's not that simple. Listen, I'm not close to much of anyone so it's difficult for even him to get near me. If someone I just met were to suddenly pop up as my friend it would raise more suspicion. And at the same time, the police detect changes in Kira or the second Kira's behavior that person will be suspected of being the second Kira. And of course, that will put me under even greater suspicion. We can't allow them to make that connection which means we can't appear to even really know each other. Do you understand what I'm saying?"

"Well, I think I understand. So is that why we can't be seen in public because it'll look too suspicious?"

"Look we need to take the time now to come up with a good plan. A way that you can see L without him knowing you exist."

"Yeah." Good she's back on track. This is easier than I thought it would be. But I guess this shows how loyal she is to Kira.

"I can't eliminate L without you so I'll call or text you as much as possible."

"You will? This means we can be friends?"

"Yeah, I guess. But to make sure that our friendship isn't revealed I will need you to keep a distance from me. That way no one I know or even L for that matter knows about you."

"So we are going to be friends but not friends?"

"We'll be more or less like pen pals."

"But that's not friendship!"

What? "Look, both of us are risking our lives to change the world aren't we?"

"I know that but, I want you to see the world, Kira. You staying away from everyone is just too... Sad."

"Maybe it feels that way to you but you are here because you admire Kira you don't even know anything about me we just met. I've chosen to keep myself away from people. Maybe to me, this is how I like things."

"I understand. But do you believe in wanting to help and protect someone at first sight? There is something about you that makes me to want to be there for you and do what I can to make you happy."

So even after this short of time, she is under my -spell- so to speak. Could Light really love me because of the same reason? Taking a step back from her I try to push aside the pain that thought brought me. "No, not really."

"I admit that everything you said was true. I did want to meet Kira out of gratitude and respect. But from the moment I first saw you I was drawn in and I knew I just wanted to be there for you."

Ryuk chuckles. "Popular!"

"You can help and protect me by obeying me. I'm not saying all of this just for myself you know. I want you to be safe. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I allowed you to be executed because I didn't warn you. Besides a few minutes ago, didn't you tell me that if you become a burden to me I could easily kill you."

"But.."

"Are you forgetting I have both notebooks?"

"I would never allow that Kira Lake. If you do anything that results in this girl's death the first thing I'll do is write your name in my death note. I will kill you. I am sure you realize I can see her lifespan. If she happens to die before that time I'll know it was you that killed her."

"But if you were to use your death note to try and save her wouldn't that mean you'd die too?" I play along not wanting Misa to know what I am.

"That's right if you tried to save me then you would die too."

"Yes, you are correct but I'm quite willing to accept that outcome." Is Rem serious? This is crazy. As Ryuk says he can't see my lifespan. All he would end up doing is killing himself. Sighing I step away from them looking at my watch. It's almost midnight.

"Misa, you should go home. It's almost midnight and I'm sure you are really busy."

"First you didn't tell me what you wanted me to do instead of going to Aoyama." With my back to her, I smile. So she already had completely decided what she was going to do. Turning to her I act like I'm thinking.

"If I could text you somehow I would be able to tell you what to do. But I wouldn't put it past L to have tapped my phone."

"Well then." I see her dig into her purse as she pulls out her spare phone. "Take this. I have three of them because I use them for different things."

"Thank you this will work." I tell her taking the phone and put it into my pocket before showing her out of the house. "Remember what we talked about. I'll talk to you later."

"Okay, see you." She says before running off down the opposite way of Light's house. Yes, this is perfect and there is the possibility that I have my days messed up since in the anime it never specified how long between her last message and the one with the journal entry she could have just been at the café after delivering her next message. It would explain why she already knew about Aoyama and was so far from home. Walking back inside I lock the door behind me.

*Light*

In the early morning, I was woken up by my phone. Answering it at first I thought it would be Kira but it ended up being my dad.

"Hello?" I ask as I yawn.

"Light, there is another message from the second Kira. It was sent to Sakura TV and we intercepted it. I'm told it's a video and a journal this time anyway I figured I should tell you." On my way towards the hotel, I pause looking at Kira's place before I continue walking. If she was ready to tell me about why she needed Ryuk then she would have told me by now. Recalling what my dad told me I couldn't help but wonder. A journal? What is that idiot up to now? Why cant she just wait? And if Kira and her met up why did she send it anyway? What are they thinking!? Clenching my fists as I walk into the new hotel that was specified and up to the room, I close my eyes briefly before knocking. I just have to trust her right now. When the door is opened for me I walk into the room and around the room divider to my father.

"So he wanted the journal shown on TV?"

"Yes, this is it." My dad says as he hands me the journal entry.

"2006? These entries are from last year." I say looking at it.

"Please look at the entry he made for the 30th."

Confirmed our Shinigami at the Tokyo dome. This is probably supposed to mean she plans on doing this on May 30th. If this was aired on TV her intentions would be obvious to anyone who sees it. Besides, it doesn't have anything to do with Aoyama like Kira said. Gasping slightly I see the entry for Aoyama. On May 22nd my friend and I showed off our notebooks in Aoyama. If by notebooks she is referring to the death notes that is something that could only be understood by us. But then why did Kira only ask for a couple of pages? The police will be distracted by the May 30th entry while Kira takes care of Aoyama.

"What do you think, is it real?" With his words, I look to Ryuzaki. I have to be careful not to say too much. Better to wait and hear his opinion first that way I don't inadvertently put Kira and the second Kira at risk.

"At this point in time, all I can say for sure is he must be stupid."

"Yeah I agree, I mean it's completely obvious that he wants to meet Kira at the home game." Matsui points out for me.

"Doesn't he understand what would happen if we aired this message? It would create an immediate panic and the game would have to be canceled." My dad adds in.

"To be honest it's so stupid I'm not even sure how to deal with this whole situation anymore." Ryuzaki says as he chews on a piece of chocolate. Before walking to another armchair. "If we make the diary public then we'll be forced to make some publicized announcement canceling the game on the 30th." He crouches onto the chair. "But if we don't broadcast it we can be sure the second Kira won't do anything."

"Won't canceling the game make him angry? There's no telling what he'll do" Matsui asks as we all walk to the couches near the chair.

As Ryuzaki goes to speak again I set on a couch with my dad. "Frankly that is not a big concern, from what we've witnessed it's safe to say that the second Kira admires the real one. He gave his word to the Kira we invented that he'd refrain from killing aimlessly. I'm inclined to believe that. I say we'd make it public and then air an announcement canceling the game. At the same time announcing that on May 30th we are going to set up checkpoints on all roads leading to the Tokyo dome. And finally, we will send a response from our invented Kira saying something like I understand and I agree to meet you there."

"Ryuzaki you don't honestly expect him to go there if we set up checkpoints around the dome do you?"

"I don't think that Kira would even consider it but it's possible the other one might. It all depends how stupid he really is." L takes a drink of his tea before holding up the journal to look at it again. "However if he's not actually the idiot we think he is there could be another message hidden in this diary, one that's not so obvious. If there is a message here written in some sort of code that only the people who have this Shinigami power can understand then there'd be no way for me to decipher it. Still, it would only make sense for us to look into all the places mentioned in the journal. 22nd he's meeting a friend in Aoyama, 24th meeting another friend in Shibuya. We have to be prepared for the possibility that all of our efforts will be fruitless. Let's keep an eye out for people with notebooks in Aoyama and people in clothing stores in Shibuya." It's as I thought if this phony Kira slips up and gets apprehended at the very least we have to obtain her notebook. Wait, is that what Kira is planning? To get her notebook so I don't have to worry? It makes sense. "All we can do is place more surveillance cameras in Aoyama and Shibuya in hopes that we might capture something. We should also arrange to have undercover officers in both locations upon these dates."

"I should probably go to Aoyama and Shibuya. Since I blend in with the crowd there ya know." Wait, the day will come when you find you will have to go to Aoyama! This is it.

"I'll go too," I say standing

"But Light."

"I'll be alright, don't worry Aoyama and Shibuya are places I'd go anyway, not to mention out of all of us I'd probably look the most natural hanging out with Matsui there. Besides, the second Kira will be looking for Kira, not for the police." Looking at the time I sigh. It was already this late. Walking out of the hotel with Matsui as I hail a cab. "We'll talk more about our trips tomorrow"

"Sounds good Light see ya tomorrow, careful getting home." Closing the door as I get in and the cab takes off with me rambling off my address. Kira, what are you planning?

Walking inside my house after being dropped off. "I'm home." I say as I take off my shoes seeing mom come into the room drying off her hands on her apron.

"Hello dear, you're back quite late today."

"Yeah.." I'm supposed to keep the fact that I'm helping with the Kira investigation a secret. "It was because I was hanging out with my girlfriend."

"Your.."

I hear Sayu running this way squealing and ending up knocking something over. "Light you and Kira are finally legit now?!"

"It's not that surprising we are both 18 and in university now. Of course, we are openly dating." I go to walk up the stairs. "You should look for a boyfriend Sayu."

"Huh? A boyfriend? What's that supposed to mean?"

"Light aren't you going to have any dinner?"

"Actually I'm still full from her cooking for me." Walking into my room I lock the door behind me. "Ryuk I need to have a talk with you." I take off my red jacket as I walk further into my room.

"Uhh should've known."

"And I'd appreciate an answer if you could." I walk to my desk and set down turning on the lamp. "Did Kira meet with the second Kira?"

"Well, she did tell me not to say much of anything to you about it because she is planning on telling you herself when the time is right. But I guess it can't hurt to tell you that she did."

Turning in my chair I look at him. "Can you tell me anything about their meeting?"

Ryuk just laughs so I know it was good. "I guess you could say she spun lies as if it were easy for her."

Lies? She says she absolutely hates lying. "I guess she must have done that for me." What could have possibly happened to get her to actually lie for me?

"Yeah."

"What else can you tell me Ryuk?"

"Let's just say she spun enough of a web she got the girl to loan her the death note."

My eyes widen. I was, Right! She did want to get a hold of that death note to keep it out of the hands of the police. "I see so I don't have to worry about that detail anymore, is there anything else you can tell me?" He just laughs not saying anything else. Damn it, why is it so hard to get information from him?

"I guess you'll just have to trust her." Did I make a mistake trusting her? Taking in a breath I close my eyes. No, she has done nothing to break my trust. Turning on my computer I begin looking for meeting places in Aoyama. "Huh?" I click on a link showing note blue bringing it up. "There's no way, did she really think this far ahead?"

"What is it?"

"Aoyama is a big area, I was searching for possible meeting places to avoid when I stumbled across this. On the 22nd there is a big event going on at a club in Aoyama called the Note Blue. Aoyama, blue mountain. Note and blue it's a code"

"Well well if you ask me that's pretty elaborate."

"She might be smarter than I thought. Which means I'll have to be that much more careful for now on. In any case, this Note Blue place is definitely worth avoiding. And surprise, surprise. Look at that Ryuk." I shake my head.

"Huh, what is it?"

"It's on the north end of Aoyama. This is why she told me to go through the south. She's had this completely planned to a T since before she told me about it."

"Scary." Ryuk says chuckling. Yes, very scary.
