Chapter 14

Walking out of my house I hum softly to myself, all day yesterday I had been texting Misa telling her what I wanted her to do. Explained to her in great detail step for step so she wouldn't mess up. Of course, after the conversation, I had to go through the hassle of hacking into the cell phone company and going through looking up all of the records of our texts and deleting them. That way when she gets caught there would be no evidence of them. It was nice having a pawn. Pulling my hat on I walk downtown to do some window shopping and possibly actually shopping. Today Light would be busy at Shibuya and Aoyama so I had to kill time somehow. Bouncing from store to store I find things I'd like to wear sometime and other things like stocking back up on my coffee stuff. I also found some clothes that Light would like. Stopping at a sweets shop I go inside and look around at all of the chocolate and cakes making my mouth water. Purchasing a strawberry shortcake I walk to a table and eat it making sounds of delight as I do.

Upon finishing I grab all of my bags and walk out back to my place. Having spent the whole day shopping I did feel quite tired. I began to wonder what I should do until the 25th. Giggling I decide to go back to school and make an appearance there.

*Light*

"So we were there both days. In Aoyama on the 22nd and Shibuya on the 24th and we observed nothing of significance on either occasion. That leaves us with only the Dome on the 30th." Aizawa reads off the report as I just sit there looking towards Ryuzaki in front of me. I didn't notice anyone who looked like what Kira had told me or even anyone who looked suspicious. I didn't even see Kira at all that day. The chances of us passing would have been high. At that second Ryuzaki's computer beeps before Watari's screen image pops up.

"Ryuzaki apparently Sakura TV has just received another message from the second Kira." Watari pauses as everyone stands up looking at the computer so I decide to stand as well. "It was postmarked for the 23rd." The computer then blinked to show the grey screen with Kira's name.

"I am happy to say that I have found Kira, to all of the people at the television station and the police department I'd like to thank you very much ." Impossible... Where Aoyama? But I didn't see Kira or her there.

"This is a disaster if he found him." Aizawa speaks up.

"It most likely means that the two Kira's are now cooperating with each other." my father says.

Watching Ryuzaki pick up his tea and spoon he speaks. "At this point, I don't think we should jump to any conclusions. The second Kira is only saying he found him nothing more. He may not have made contact yet. Now that it's come to this." He pauses to take a loud sip of his tea. "We have no choice but to communicate as the police directly with the second Kira."

"You want to send a message?" Matsui asks.

"Yes... The police need to reach out to the copycat and offer him a deal. We would need to negotiate with him to see if we can get Kira's real name."

Ryuk chuckles. "That's the last thing you wanted to hear. Right?"

This isn't good. I have no idea what Kira is planning or even how the fake Kira will react to this. But I have no means in stopping the police from sending this message.

Back at home, I'm sitting at my desk watching my TV. Wondering if I should just go over to Kira's and ask her directly what is going on.

"If Kira doesn't yet know your name it may not be too late for you provided you are willing to cooperate. Whatever you do you must not approach Kira out of curiosity make no mistake Kira will kill you if you contact him. You'll be used and disposed of.."

*Kira*

"Consider your own life for a moment yours, like every other life has an intrinsic value. Now is your chance to right past wrongs by sharing what you know about Kira. Only you can help us bring his reign of terror to an end." Giggling I get up turning off my TV and clearing out my computer. By now Light should be worried. I guess it is time to let him in on some things. Grabbing my bag I walk from my house and go to Light's. Leaping onto his yard fence then into the tree and onto his porch like usual. Sliding open the door I walk in quietly seeing Light was just putting on his coat. Smiling to him I close the sliding door behind me and set down onto his bed. "I figured you would be worried." I say as I set my bag down on the floor next to the bed and I pull my legs into Indian style on top. I watch as he puts his coat back into his closet before coming over to me. First leaning over and gives me a quick kiss before sitting next to me.

"Kira, I need to know what's going on. I don't even know how this Second Kira will react to this broadcast."

"Don't worry she hasn't seen it. I have her busy right now. Tying up loose ends. Besides I gave her exact orders to follow."

"I see and I don't suppose you'll tell me what orders you gave her?" Shaking my head I giggle.

"You'll find out soon enough I suppose. But believe me, it will make things easier in the long run."

"So this is why you weren't at Aoyama?"

"I didn't need to go and I sent her out before she herself would go to Aoyama. I gave her instructions to have that video sent to Sakura TV on the 23rd by the use of a third party because she won't be around yet."

"You know your plans tend to scare me. If you slip up we both will be executed."

Rather than correcting him I give him a smile and lean my head on his shoulder. "For tonight could we just.. Be like this? I've missed you Light."

"I've missed you too but could you at least tell me her name?" I sigh at his question before lifting up and raising my right hand to his cheek.

"Misa Amane." Finally, I lay down pulling him with me. Telling him the story of how to kill a Shinigami which inevitably led to Misa's prolonged life span. Even going into details from the memory of the anime about how she was attacked and a Shinigami named Jealous who saved her ending in how Rem said he'd write my name in his death note to save Misa if I were ever to plan to kill her.

*L*

After Light leaves, I set there running through the surveillance footage of Aoyama as I think. The only two people on the task force in Aoyama on that day were Matsuda and Light Yagami. Could he really be Kira? There is no saying it even happened there. "So were you actually planning to check all of the footage we got from Aoyama on the 22nd by yourself?"

"That's right I think it's very likely that Kira and the second Kira made contact with each other there on that day. So I want to check all of these tapes personally. Also Mr. Yagami?"

"Uh yes?"

"Please ask Mr. Mogi to start following Light so we can keep tabs on what he is doing."

"You want him followed?"

"It's only a slim chance but if Light is Kira then there is still a possibility the second Kira might try to contact him somehow."

"Very well."

"I'm starting to wonder if Ryuzaki is even human, the guy never sleeps."

"I saw him sleeping in that exact same position the other day."

"Huh"

"No, I'm serious."

Taking a bite of my juice bar I enjoy the blueberry flavor. "Also I should tell you there is a chance that the second Kira and Kira didn't even meet in Aoyama on the 22nd. Miss Lake was also out shopping all day that day at a shopping district near Aoyama so it is possible they could have met there."

"What are you saying?"

"Well, it's odd that both of our suspects were near the same area on the same day and then we get this message from the second Kira saying that he found Kira? I find the coincidence in that hard to believe."

"Then wouldn't you want Kira followed as well?"

"No, it's been proven that Light and Kira spend most of their time together anyway so using two investigators to watch the same area is rather pointless. Besides if anything Mogi could stand at the corner and keep an eye on both household doors for the time they are apart then just contact us if Kira leaves and which way she is going if not to your house."

*Light*

Leaving Kira asleep on my bed I get up and go to the computer. For a shinigami to die they have to use their death note in order to save the life of a human who they have fallen in love with. Ideally, I could kill Rem first if someone I was controlling was forced to attack Misa but... No that would never work if Misa's life were put in danger Rem would immediately suspect Kira and she'd be the one who'd get killed. As things stand she's a bigger nuisance than L is. Is this why Kira wanted Misa to meet her instead of me? She knew that Rem would do anything to protect Misa and she didn't want me being put into a position of having to take care of her?

Gasping as I bring up a page of Misa on the cover of a magazine. Sh...She's famous? I don't even want to imagine what would happen if someone were to find out about the connection between her and Kira then in turn find out about Kira and I. Damn it she's nothing but trouble. What should I do? No more importantly I need to think of how I can have Kira use Misa's eyes to help me kill L. If I can eliminate him then there would be nothing standing in the way of my goal. Standing I stretch my arms above my head with a yawn, going to my closet I retrieve a pair of shorts. Pulling them on I walk across my room and pick up my pants to put them to the side so I could place them into the laundry hamper later on. Once moving them to the wall so they were no longer in the middle of the floor I make my way back to bed.

In the morning I walk with Kira to her house so she can change and shower before school. Going into her computer room I notice there was now a TV and laptop on stands next to each other. There were no signs of anything that could point out where the death notes could be hidden. In fact, she hasn't even told me where they are. Sitting at her desk I continue to look around her computer room. There really was nothing else in here besides the computer, TV, and laptop making this room seem rather empty and nothing out of place or weird about it. Or is that how she wants it to look? This is the one room in her house she spends the most time in so it wouldn't surprise me that they are hidden somewhere in here. Odds tell me from how I know Kira, I could gut this house completely before finding them.

"Trying to figure out where the death notes are?" Her voice comes behind me as if the fact was funny to her.

"Well, I'm not sure if you have them well hidden."

"Don't worry, no one will ever find them I've made sure of that. You ready to go to school?"

"Yeah"

Standing I walk out of the house with her, reaching out I grab her hand and entwine my fingers with hers. Just even this much contact with her eased some of the pain from having none at all.

"Page number 246." According to Kira, Misa's final message should arrive today. Although before it ever gets to the TV station. It will be rerouted to task force headquarters. I have to go down there at some point so I can find out what is on it and to see L's reaction first hand. Kira said that the reaction could be good if he even drops his guard enough to show any emotion.

"Light... Light."

"Hmm?" I look to my left towards Kira.

"You shouldn't worry so much Light. I know this class is boring and you'd rather be out of here, believe me, I feel the same but still. Rather than worrying why not try to think about something positive and unrelated?"

"You're right, I guess I was just thinking about our public appearance here at school as an actual couple. That everyone is going to be talking about us now. That I'm openly going out with Miss Lake the most beautiful woman in school by far." Hearing Ryuk chuckle as I watch her blush and glance away causing me to smile. "I'm serious, you could be one of the most beautiful models out there if you'd just wanted to take up modeling."

"Modeling is for nimrod bimbos. But you know Light if you wanted me to have my picture taken I still have that camera I got for my birthday." She smirks looking back to me bringing another smile from me. How can she be so innocent yet so completely not at the same time? And here I was worried that doing what we have she would lose the very innocence I love about her.

"Yeah, we still need to fill that picture frame you got as well." She giggles lowering her head so her hair covers the redness of her face. So cute. I don't know why I didn't notice this before but she actually likes all the attention. Closing my eyes and resting my chin on my left hand I smile.

After school, I walk with her hand in hand under the cherry blossom trees. She was looking up at them in utter amazement looking as cute as always. Stopping I turn to her while she was still distracted. Keeping a hold of her hand I grab her hip with my free hand and pull her against me achieving a startling sound of surprise from her. As she looks up at me I bow my head and press my lips against hers. All the pain of her absence during all of this with the second Kira. I wanted more than just last night, I want this kiss to make up for that.

As we broke apart trying to catch our breath she giggles at me with red cheeks. "You know Light I just had a thought.."

A thought? "What is it?"

"With both of us being 18 now you could legally move out of your parents' house and umm.." She looks down trying to cover up how red her cheeks actually were. "Since your name is already on the lease of my house it is yours.." My heart pounded at her question. Was she asking me to move in with her?

"Let me think about all of what is going on and of course see if I can talk my parents into letting me move in. We'll go from there okay?"

"Alright." She smiles up at me before letting go of my hand. "I'll let you get to the task force." She giggles as she runs off. I couldn't help but stand there watching the sway of her short miniskirt as she does. The thought of possibly living with her actually felt too good to pass up.

Walking into the hotel room the image of her and her question still heavy in my mind. "Hello." I barely manage to say as I close the door.

"Oh come in, your timing couldn't be better actually." Setting my bag on the dresser next to the lamp I look over at Ryuzaki who was sitting in an armchair in front of the TV with my dad standing next to him. "We just received a new video message from the second Kira."

I turn to face them more fully. "Huh? Wow, that didn't take long." I say before walking up to them to better see the TV.

"Yes, I believe it's the last one." So I didn't get here in time to see his first reaction to it. "Well take a look at this." He says turning it on. Bringing up Misa's display image.

"I've decided to stop searching for Kira, and I'd like to thank the police department for their advice. However, I still plan to help Kira in his mission and I hope that in time he will come to see me as an ally. I will start by punishing criminals that Kira has yet to judge. Also, I will share my powers with others who I feel are worthy and I will encourage them to do the same, together we will make this world a better place." Ryuzaki clicks off the TV and sets the remote down.

"After watching this I can only think that Kira and the Second Kira have managed to make contact."

"What makes you say that?"

"Oh come on didn't you sense it? I was sure you'd come to the same conclusion I did after watching this once through." He picks up a doughnut and starts eating it. "First consider how determined he was to meet Kira so why the sudden change of heart? Now he wants to punish criminals that Kira hasn't? And all he wants out of it is for Kira to see him as an ally? It begs the question, why didn't he do this, to begin with. I'm guessing it's because he never thought that far ahead. He probably met Kira and was told which criminals he would be allowed to judge." He finishes his doughnut by shoving the rest of it into his mouth. "I suspect that the purpose of this message is to hide the fact that they met."

"I see" Damn it she messed up. But wait, wasn't I thinking last night when she was telling me all of this that this would be exactly the type of message I would have wanted Misa to put up as her last message? Yes, it was when she was explaining to me how she was having Misa place one last message. I had already run it through my mind and this is exactly the message I would have had her post. "But what I find really strange is it's unlike Kira to be so careless."

"That's true." He licks his fingers. "Mmm mm… but are we to believe that Kira made the mistake this time or is this his way of letting us know they have made contact? It would be an effective means of provoking us. The idea of their union is very threatening." So she wanted them to know? "However this is also one less reason to suspect that Light is Kira." I see she's pulling even more suspicion off of me! God, I love this girl.

"Ryuzaki what do you mean by that?" My dad asks rather excitedly.

"If Light is Kira I don't think this is the message he would have had the second Kira send us. It doesn't fit. He would have made the second Kira go through with his plan to have me appear on TV then deny they ever made contact letting the second Kira shoulder the blame for my death. He'd make him say something like.." I watch as he picks up another doughnut and licks at the chocolate frosting as he thinks. "Although I agreed to not go through with this I have come to realize that it was not Kira's true intention that I stop. I am positive that the real Kira would want L to die so there is no way he'd make me.. Stop." He continues licking the chocolate doughnut as if it's the most important thing right now.

"Ryuzaki.."

"Yes, Light?"

"I think you're mistaken, I would never do that if I were... Kira."

"Why not?"

"Well if you're L and I'm Kira then I'd already know your personality pretty well. L would never agree to appear on TV no matter what threat he was facing. And he wouldn't allow someone else to die in his place. The L I know would find some way to escape the situation." He looks up at me with almost a smile.

"So you've figured it out."

"Look Light." I look away from Ryuzaki to my dad. "You've got to stop that, I don't like hearing you say.. If I were Kira even hypothetically."

"Oh, I'm sorry dad. I just wanted to let Ryuzaki know exactly what I thought of his plan. I posed that scenario because I want to help solve this case it's the only chance I have to clear my name. Besides the only reason why I'm comfortable with saying things like that is because... I'm not really Kira."

"That's a good point. You're not Kira. That is it would be a problem if you were Kira. Because I feel you are the first friend that I have ever had." Is this just a ploy or does he really believe now that I'm not Kira and he sees me as a friend?

"Uhh. Yeah, I know what you mean. The two of us have a lot in common."

He loudly takes a sip of his tea. "Thank you." He says quietly almost as if he meant it.

He looks back to me and I smile. "And I have missed having you around at school, we should play tennis again soon."

"Yes, we should." He goes back to drinking his tea as everything just seems to go quiet.

"Oh and dad?"

"Yes, Light?"

"Well umm. I'm 18 now I was wondering... Would you be opposed to me moving in with my girlfriend?"

"W. What? Are you two really that serious?"

"Well umm.." I glance down feeling a bit nervous before looking at him. "I actually think she is the one I want to marry. But before that, I want to try out living with her. You know how the saying goes that you truly don't know someone until you live with them."

"I would have to talk to your mother about it. But Let me just say this. Personally, I'd like it if you would be married before moving in with someone but I do know the times have changed."

"Thank you, dad. It means a lot to me."

"Just so we are clear though. How do you really feel about her?"

"Well umm... When we are apart it feels like there is a hole inside my chest so I never want to leave her side."

*Kira*

Walking home from having gone for a late-night walk to try and clear my head. I had been too worried all night about my request to Light, to do much of anything else. Coming up on my corner I see Light reaching the door of his house. Smiling before I hear my name being called. Turning I feel arms wrap around me. It took me a moment to understand what was going on and who it was. "I just couldn't wait, I wanted to see how you were doing after I got back so I came here right away! Actually, I was just on my way to your house when I spotted you. Hehe." She smiles nonchalantly closing her eyes. I nearly growl. Seeing her choker and the leather of her jacket pull away from her neck as she makes that one simple move. This is the first time in my life I was actually truly tempted to bite someone other than Light. She just smelled so good. Wait, how long has it been since I've fed from him? Noticing I was glaring she lets go and takes a step back. "I just wanted to see you so badly. I was worried about you."

"Well, you might as well come over."

"Yay! We can so totally have a movie night."

"I don't have any movies." Turning I walk down the last few houses to my place. Why did I even invite her over? Touching my neck as if that would soothe the throbbing burning in my throat. This was going to be hell.

"That's okay, I didn't see any the last time I was there so I brought a couple for you to choose from."

Walking into my house I let her in before locking the door. As I make my way towards the kitchen I glance over my shoulder at Misa and Rem. "You are... Misa's ally aren't you?"

"Yes, I've seen her many times from the Shinigami realm, and then... Certain events made me develop feelings for her." Turning I walk into the kitchen grabbing out a bag of popcorn. "You don't like what I said before about how I'd kill you if you even attempted to kill Misa."

"So if Misa is happy does that mean you'll be happy as well?" I ask avoiding Rem's comment as I throw the popcorn into the microwave and turn around to face them. Seeing how they've moved into the kitchen with me.

"I suppose you could say that. I definitely don't want her to suffer." Walking up to Misa I absentmindedly brush her blonde hair out of her eyes.

"As you know, Misa admires me. And as she says she feels drawn to make me happy." Looking at her I take a step back so things wouldn't be so awkward. "Misa, If I was happy, do you think that would make you happy too?"

"Yes"

"Then could you ask Rem to kill L? Rem said that your happiness was important but what do you think would happen if L caught one of us? It would mean you wouldn't be able to be around me anymore and any chance you had at making me happy would be ruined." Looking to Rem I brush my own hair out of my eyes. "And if you agree to kill L that would mean that Misa and I wouldn't have to stay away from each other. We could be best friends as she wants us to be. Plus I'd be grateful to you and to top it off Misa would be happy."

"Rem, I want Kira to be my friend. As if she was a sister I never had. And I know that I could protect her and make her happy. It's all I've wanted since I've met her." She folds her hands giving Rem great big blue puppy dog eyes. As the silence draws out I hear the microwave beep. "That's a shame." I say turning to the microwave and reaching to pull out a large bowl from the cabinet above the appliance. Is it wrong of me to use this unnatural power I seem to have that draws people to me and wanting to do anything for me?

"Fine." I smile setting the bowl down before masking it and looking back at them. "As you wish Kira Lake. This will not kill me even if it ends up lengthening your life. I will kill L for you. It really makes no difference to me. He is just another human to me just like those lives in England."

"Hurray!" Misa hugs Rem. "Oh, Rem thank you so much! I knew I could count on you." With my back to them again I smile pouring the popcorn into the bowl. So what I had ordered was done. Good.
