Chapter 24

"In order to further the growth of the Yotsuba group and best serve the financial interests who should we kill next?" Everyone gives sounds of surprise as I silently walk further into the room.

"You see, it's just like I told you last week!" Matsuda says happily causing me to smile. At least he was no longer in his slump.

"This is not good at this rate." Ryuzaki mumbles.

"But before we get to that there are several topics that we need to discuss. First, there is the issue of Hatori's death." The bald Takashi Ooi says.

"That was unavoidable." Namikawa speaks up. "To be honest in a certain sense I'm relieved that Hatori's dead. Kira has demonstrated that we must be committed to these meetings. We now know what will happen if we try to leave."

"I.. think we all understand what Hatori's death means for the rest of us. Let's not take it lightly... Now moving on. Our next topic is Eraldo Coil's report."

"One of their members just died and that's all they're going to say?" Mr. Yagami says.

"So did we really pay five million dollars for this report?" Higuchi says. "I mean come on look at this! He hasn't found out anything important about L like his name or his face! Is this coil guy seriously going to be really of any use to us?"

"Hold on a second, there is something very interesting in the last part of this report, Coil is warning us that we can't afford to take L's existence too lightly. In particular, it says the concentration of killings that are beneficial to Yotsuba will most likely be noticed by L if they continue on Fridays and Saturdays." Ooi reads off.

"Sounds like this Eraldo Coil has figured out what we've been up to. I admit it's quite impressive. At any rate, I personally believe we should stop killing every weekend."

"This is unbelievable It's like they are trying to confess to everything." Matsuda points out.

"Hmm. As long as we have this video as evidence we could probably arrest all seven of them."

"Kira hasn't been flexible up until now. Has he? It would be nice if he could spread out his killings over the whole week." I roll my eyes at Higuchi's comment. Yeah... He sure doesn't make it obvious that he's the one with the notebook.

"The fact that Coil noticed what we've been up to makes it too dangerous to continue killing at our usual pace. From now on we have to be even more careful and make sure that nobody else happens to notice a trend in these deaths."

"Now onto the main topic. Who should we kill?" Everyone makes sounds of exasperated anticipation or regret.

"I think we should focus on ELF insurance if they expand into the Japanese market Yotsuba and many other companies will lose valuable clients to them."

"Agreed"

"Alright, any objections to killing these people from ELF with accidental deaths?" Ooi asks.

"No objections." all of them except for Ooi says in unison.

"Is this for real?" Light asks. "How can they do this so easily?" His acting of playing innocent is really quite miraculous at times. I take note of how even I would be fooled, everything down to even the pitch of his voice is absolutely flawless.

"Another potential candidate is Santorou Zenzai member of the Kugisawa group he's been protesting Yotsuba's resort development plans. Zenzai is known to have high blood pressure so we can designate a time for him to suffer a stroke or a natural death. Any objections?" Ooi proposes.

"No objections." they say in unison again.

"Kira, deaths by accident, by disease, designated times of death. It's all just as we suspected. We were right." Light says looking down at Ryuzaki.

"No, unfortunately, we can only be completely sure after those people they've named are dead. We will continue to monitor these meetings and take note of what they say and how they act. And most importantly whether the people they choose actually die. If we can confirm the connection between their plans and the deaths. Then we will definitely be able to catch Kira."

"Ryuzaki!" Light and Mr. Yagami say at the same time.

"What is it?" Ryuzaki asks looking from one to the other. "There is no need to yell in unison."

"I can't carry on knowing these people will die!" Light speaks up. "That's just immoral!" Not to mention they are technically innocent and that goes completely against his will.

"Right!" His dad agrees. Sighing I turn and go up the stairs ignoring the rest of it. It was all just too... Predictable at this point. Walking onto my floor I shove a couch so it is facing the window then setting down in Indian position upon it looking out of the window at what I can see of the city and the sky. Last week was a nice change of pace I had to admit but I need to get outside, and more importantly, I need to get that notebook from Higuchi.

*Light*

"We will only get into further arguments if we don't act separately. I think this is for the best." Ryuzaki says as he continues putting sugar cubes into his cup.

"Are you saying you are going to find out who Kira is by any means necessary?" Dad asks.

"Yes, this case will never be solved unless we capture Kira himself. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that preventing more deaths is pointless. But if we don't uncover the entire truth once and for all. Kira will only appear again and the number of victims will continue to increase. That's why I find it more important to find out who Kira really is. As I've been saying I am opposed to arresting those seven men. If you want to do so then you will have to take responsibility for them." He gets up. "I will pursue Kira on my own. We only have one month. I wonder who will succeed." He says as he walks away. I follow him just to keep an eye on him.

"Ryuzaki where are you going?"

"To Amane's room. Sorry but I don't want you to come with me." He says before continuing his way up the stairs. I stop, watching after him. Damn him! Saying that means I can't follow I can only keep an eye on him from down here!

*Kira*

"Long time no see Rem." I say as I feel him come into the sitting room my smile hidden.

"Everything is going as you had planned Kira."

"Yes, I know. In less than a month, it will be time to proceed to the next step. But, L is still suspicious of Misa, no matter what you can't let her know about you or the death note. The current one parading as Kira will soon be dead so anything he says don't worry about."

"I remember."

"Good. And I mean it Rem, no stealing a piece of the death note and showing yourself to Misa, she needs to stay as normal as possible and her acting sucks. Soon she will be able to live a peaceful life away from death and misfortune. She will be happy."

"I hope so."

"You have done well Rem." I look back at him and give him a gentle smile. "She is lucky to have you watching over her." I watch as Rem's eyes widen as he looks down at me. I lay down on the couch with my arms behind my head letting the moonlight cover me. "I have almost completely mastered it. Soon I will be able to be outside again and feel the sun kiss my skin."

"So you still cant leave?"

"No, and it looks like he won't let me until I tell him everything about myself. Which I can't. Normal humans won't be able to accept me. They would lock me up and study me trying to find a way to kill me."

"And has Light been helping you? Trying to get you so you can see the outside beyond the window?"

"He's been doing exactly as he should. Keeping suspicion off of him and keeping an eye on the investigation. If he were to try and get me out of here he would be under the spotlight again and I can't have that."

"So you are willing to not have freedom for him."

"Yes, I will do anything for him. I just hope my time with him will never end."

"But at some point, it will."

"I know that he's human he will grow old and die like any other. I've already prolonged his life getting rid of L's successors. Now I just need to keep the notebook from falling into anyone else's hands and keep it out of sight of the police."

"You are different from what I first thought."

"Really?"

"At first you seemed emotionally detached. Vial, and void of compassion. But I see now that was just an act to try and keep Misa out of harm's way."

"She still should have just listened to me. If she had she wouldn't be in this mess. Someone as bubbly as her deserves a long and fun life away from death notes, Shinigami, and pain. Personally, I find her annoying but she has a kind and loving heart that I want to preserve… Well as long as it is kept away from me." Closing my eyes I smile seeing the gentle light from behind my eyelids. "Just remember, when the time comes you know where to find what you need." I hear the door opening after everything had fallen silent. I wait hearing three sets of feet coming into the room. "Take a seat on the spare couch." I say without moving.

"Kiara, I need to ask you and Matsuda some questions." His voice was just irritating to me right now but there was a tone that said he really didn't want to have to do this.

"Sure what is it?" I ask as I hear them set down.

"Regarding Yotsuba. Matsuda has yet to reveal how he knew about the secret meetings. But I am sure that is just because of him not wishing to betray your trust. Will you tell me?"

Opening my eyes I look up at the moon shining through my window as I wonder if I really should tell him. "Under one condition." I decided to try.

"And what would this condition be?" His voice gave away that he's getting used to me bartering with him.

"Let me be able to go outside."

"Depending upon the information you give me I shall think about it."

Was that a yes? Oh well either way it can't hurt my plans. "As I explained to him from what I had pieced together it seemed highly probable to me that Kira is a member of Yotsuba but the killings were too precise. To remain under the radar but still benefit the group. If one person was involved then it was more likely they would accidentally choose the wrong person and the wrong time. Several minds are better than one so to speak. So I told him how I believed it had to of been discussed with others of equal standing to his own in order to achieve such accurate choices every time."

"I see so how did you know they would be on Fridays?"

"As I told him, I heard Dad say that the deaths were revolving around Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Most people would not like to have their weekend's taken up with more business so the best choice would be at the end of the workweek and before the killings. So I had no choice but to believe it was Friday after most people had gone home."

"With having figured such a thing out and having it been spot on. Why don't you help with the investigation?"

"As I told Matsuda I have no interest in tracking down Kira. What I'm doing is keeping track of both the investigation and Kira's movements. I'm curious to figure out how it will end and knowing as much as I can allows me to come to conclusions and deduct what methods you will use to further your investigation."

"So what have you figured out so far?"

"Well from what I heard of that meeting before coming back up here. I would say that you would want to wait for the deaths of the intended victims for further proof that what they are doing is real. But from you deciding that it would be predictable for Light and Dad to oppose your decision. With that, I would say that Light decided to try and delay the deaths to give you all more time to catch Kira before the intended victims will die. On top of that, you two probably got into another fight because Light wants to protect people and you want to know everything about Kira, so you can prevent more deaths. The value of many outweighs the value of a few so to speak. With knowing that about both of your personalities I would say you wish to investigate separately from the others. You believe that at some point your investigations will lead you down the same path but in different routes so you are no longer chasing down the same route and getting nowhere. Thus, covering more ground."

"Truly unbelievable." He responds.

"That's amazing!" Matsuda exclaims. "That's nearly exactly what happened. So you are saying that L is only doing this so the task force covers more ground?"

"That is exactly what I am saying."

"Kiara, I would say as of right now you are the only one capable of succeeding me. At this rate just from what little hints you have gathered from brief moments of listening in and the perfect analysis of what you can deduce from those hints would put you even greater than myself or Light."

"Nice try. I want nothing to do with your investigation. Whether if it means succeeding you or not. Besides. I also know that with your personality you had suspected Light before your sights were set on me. So even now you still suspect him. Which would also mean you had already tried this ploy with him. I do not wish to succeed you nor am I faking that I am not Kira. For Kira, succeeding you would be advantageous but still. I'm not Kira so it means nothing to me. If you wish I will let you try another one on me."

"That's nearly exactly what Light said!" Matsuda says again and I can't help but giggle.

"You're too cute Matsuda. I'm glad Ryuzaki brought you and Light with him in here."

"Uhh... Thanks."

"Well thank you for your time." Ryuzaki says.

"Ryuzaki."

"Yes?"

"I should tell you at the party a member of Yotsuba told me they would pine for me becoming the face of their campaign rather than Misa. He even gave me his card to call him if I ever decide I am interested. Apparently, I have more air of sophistication about me which would draw more clientele than Misa. He also said that I am just as fun as she is so it would work with the other branches of their business as well. That's all I wanted to say, you can go now."

"Wow, really Kiara?" Matsuda asks. I take this time to notice that Light has been quiet the whole time.

"Yes, with the way that the other members seemed to like me he doesn't doubt that I would win the spot over Misa. Oh and Light. Can you stay or are you too busy?"

"I am due for a break. So I'll stay." He says causing me to smile.

"You other two can go now. I'm done. Just Ryuzaki, please think about my being able to go outside. It's not in me to be stuck away from the sunlight and fresh air. I need to be free to roam it's just how I am." As I hear the door close I watch as Light comes around the couch. Placing his right knee between my legs as he leans forward with his right hand on the back of the couch and his left on the arm.

I giggle and reach up to gently touch his face. "You really are amazing you know that?"

"Well I don't think I can ever get tired of hearing that but I am not as amazing as you Light." I hear his chuckle as he leans down further pressing his lips against mine. Closing my eyes I return his kiss brushing my thumb against the soft skin of his cheek.

Feeling him pull his lips from mine and him nipping at my bottom lip. I gasp feeling that pitted heat begin to build and my breasts tighten from that one small action. He chuckles lightly before his lips are against mine again his tongue shooting into my mouth. Swirling around the depths until finding my own tongue. Wrapping around it and massaging it. I move my hand up to his soft hair and entwine my fingers in the tendrils as I return his sensual kiss.

His right hand moves from the back of the couch to my side his fingertips trailing along until I feel them brush against my fabric-covered breast. Even from the dulled touch, it sent new waves of need through me. His hand then moves abruptly and deliberately to the hem of my tank top and sliding beneath it, his fingers grazing against my skin sent shivers through me, even though his hand stopped and his fingers curled around my side the flesh to flesh contact was still there filling my chest with warmth. Moving my hand from his hair I run it down his chest to the very hem of his brown long-sleeved shirt and slipped my hand beneath until I was able to touch his abdomen similar to how he was touching me.
All I had wanted since I was released from my incarceration was to be able to touch him like this. Pulling his lips from mine as he began to trace his lips down my jaw and to my neck where he placed a simple brief kiss to my neck before I felt him nip at the tender flesh causing my heart to skip. I tilt my head away so he could have his play closing my eyes as I take in each simple touch and playful nip. The warmth growing until it was radiating through my entire body.

I felt him shift beneath my touch until his form was nearly completely against my own. His size covering me causing me to move my hands so my arms were now snaked around his lower shoulder blades beneath his arms. I could feel his breath against my ear before I could ever hear him speak. "I thought you hated me after what happened."

"I could never hate you Light" I breathed against his neck.

"You've been avoiding me. I thought I had lost you."

"I'm sorry. I thought the lack of my presence would be best so you could focus."

"It felt like my heart had been forcibly ripped from my chest."

I felt tears stinging my eyes as I brushed my cheek against his. "I never meant to hurt you."

"Will you promise me something, Kira?"

I smile hearing him say my real name for the first time since I suggested my being called Kiara to reduce confusion. "Sure."

"Never leave my side like that again."

"I promise."

I feel him exhale a sigh of relief before he places a gentle kiss against my ear "Good because I don't think I could ever survive that again."

His words touched me as my heart races with glee. Yes, it is his love. His love is the reason I can remain sane. I am thankful to my stars that I arrived in this world. And upon my life, I pray I will never have to leave. He raises just enough to crash his lips against mine again with a fever that I had never felt before. Almost as if, he was trying to show me how much it had pained him for me to be away from him as long as I had.

His hands move along my sides until he finds my arms. Pulling my hands from his back as he pins them to the arm of the couch above my head. When his teeth nip at my bottom lip I can't help but smile before opening my mouth for him. "I mean it, Kira." He breathes quietly causing his lips to move against mine. "Don't leave my side." He practically orders before his tongue dart's into my mouth, his free hand finding my fabric-covered left breast and squeezing it tightly. I couldn't help the moan that escapes from me as his hips pin me further into the couch already feeling his hardened length fighting against the restraints of his pants and pressing against me.

As he pulls his tongue from my mouth he sucks on my bottom lip. His hand glides along my body to the hem of my skirt. I couldn't help the gasp that escapes from me as his fingertips slide along my bare thighs up to my apex. With a cotton-covered swipe of his thumb over my folds, my body erupts in fire. The need for his touch pushes me to wiggle beneath him and whimper when his hand moves from in between us. "Light." I breathe out feeling him smile against my lips before he moves and his teeth nip at my jaw slowly working his way to my neck. I could faintly hear the sound of a zipper but my head is already reeling with his gentle bites. Curling my fingers a bit I try to hold his hand that is still pinning mine above my head, however with his hold being on my wrist my fingertips barely touch him.

I couldn't help the moan that escapes from me as he bites rather hard at the soft spot of my neck making me squirm further beneath him. The heat building in my body pools low in my tummy as my entire body feels like fire is coursing through my veins. "Kira, I warned you before not to distance yourself from me." His breath fans over my damp skin causing me to shiver, his tone tight with his need for me and his anger from being without me. Reminding me of when he had pinned me to my wall after the Toho entrance exam and he had seemingly brought me my death note and pages from his own as an excuse to come over. "Don't leave me alone again." He orders again just before I feel his finger hook on my panties and pull them out of the way just as his hard length forces its way deep within. Completely sheathing himself in one smooth thrust bringing rise to a moan from me. He bites at my neck again mixing more of my pain with the pleasure he is causing. Further showing me, how much our time apart has hurt him.

With him nestled in his mark his hand moves from between us before he resituates himself and he shifts his hold on me. So one of my wrists are in each of his hands, using them to hold his weight and further keep me restrained. As he raises up and peers down into my eyes, I find my breath catching seeing the emotions laying bare in his gaze. With his tightened grip as leverage, I feel his hips pull back before rocking forward again. Slamming himself into me causes a whimper-laced moan as his action sends electrical currents through my body and his hard cock pushes against my most inner walls within me. "You are mine." He groans into my ear just before he bites the soft curve of my neck. His thrusts came faster and harder. The mixing of both his painful and pleasurable actions sends me to new heights as he keeps a firm grip on my wrists, keeping me in place. "I'm yours." I moan out those words as my hips buck against his. The thrumb of my body takes complete control of me as I feel my climax readying to send my world completely over the edge.
