Chapter 32
Walking back into the house after my -Visit- to HQ I found Aphrodite already in the computer room watching the television set up I had placed in here a few months prior to today. She was writing names down again. Diligent as I was beginning to believe she was. Though I couldn't say I was exactly happy that she had brought a chair from the living room into this room somehow. She was resting in it with her legs hanging over an arm of the chair and leaning against the other arm writing in front of the small television. Sighing, I move over to the computer desk and light up the three screens. "Did you do it?" She finally questions as I hear her hop out of the chair and come over to me.
"Yes, with the security within The Task Force Headquarters, I couldn't establish an outside Hack. So I had to break into the security box and place my own bug inside it." I explained to her. Yes, that was the real reason why I was outside of HQ when Watari had noticed me. Luckily I had bought lunches and sweets for the members within those walls so I could cover up as to why I was really there. Bringing up the surveillance within HQ my heart about stopped when I came upon a set of taps that views my room. "He…. Never… removed them." I found myself breathing as my face felt like it was on fire. Did he watch us last night? I was so sure he had taken them down like he said because so far he has always upheld his word to me. So I had no hesitation in doing what I had wanted with Light. But now, I find he never removed the taps. He very easily could have watched… Seen everything... Covering my face I ignore Aphrodite's confused sounds as to what was wrong. How did I let myself.. Trust him? I don't really trust anyone... So why did I believe him when he said he would remove them for me?
Shaking my head I try and push that realization out of my mind. Teaches me to trust anyone and not bother to look into my surroundings just to make sure. I set the screens to record after pulling up the many cameras at ground zero of HQ. Then using L's own security to shadow his along with Watari's computers. "Aphrodite.." I spoke as I slid my chair away from the desk. "Yes?" She questions from my right-hand side.
"Would you want to go shopping with me to pick up things for the apartment?"
"Oh, yeah, sure thing." She speaks and I finally look towards her. Today she had the front of her hair pulled back with a large red bow in a way that her bangs still framed her face. A white tank top and what looked like a red crochet sweater over the top of it. Only big enough to cover her arms. Held closed by a single button near her neck. What threw her look off though was the red mini skirt over the top of her bleached white blue jeans and the bulky red shoes. Seriously her taste in clothes was absolutely horrible.
"Aphrodite, I've been meaning to ask you a few questions." I caved as we were walking across town. The clunking of her bulky shoes echoing in my ears annoyingly.
"Sure cuz, I've been wondering when you'd finally ask me questions." She spoke cheerfully as she rushed up to my side. It seemed odd that she was taller than me and yet still has to try and keep up with me. Must be her awful shoes.
"Your outfits... What's up with them?" I scrunch my nose as I speak signifying my distaste.
"Oh, well Mom don't believe in Ladies showing skin. I guess I just got used to covering up."
"What about your shoes?"
"These? Is there something wrong with them? They are totally my favorite pair." She was finally getting defensive so I decided to let that particular part of the topic drop.
"So, how did you find me?"
"And the real question finally comes out." She giggled causing me to stop walking and look at her. Real question? To be honest I was more curious about her clothes than how she actually found me but I kept that bit to myself. "Well, you see when you didn't message your parents like usual on your birthday they and mine hurried to your home. I followed along you know. I've wanted to meet you for like ever. You were gone but traces of your energy was left. In fact, I was the one that found the insignia of your energy at your laptop. It was still on the last episode of Death note you watched. So I let the adults trace your energy and it led right here." She spoke proudly before laughing. "Your dad wanted to hop right in and drag you out but it was Auntie that kept him from doing it. She said she'd rather you be here than in danger in our world and that if we brought you back you'd just go again. Just wait until they find out you did it by complete accident!" Shaking my head I closed my eyes. So fully awakened beings can trace remnants of energy. News to me.
"Wow, I didn't know that was possible." I forced myself to sound completely amazed to try and keep her talking as I began walking again.
"I know right, I had no idea they didn't even have someone at that house training you?! It's absurd to keep you from yourself like they have… Well, cuz!" She hollered linking her arm with my right one and tugging me to her with a giggle. "I have a whole lot to teach you! We are going to be very busy!"
"Uhh... Yeah." I say just as I walk into the store with her in toe. "I'm starting school again so we will have to work on training after my classes and in between working on our projects at home."
"So… you are really going to school?"
"Don't sound so disgusted cousin. I actually like school." -Plus I get to spend time with Light.- Smiling to myself with that thought I try to rush through the store so I can hurry up and get home. First night in the apartment. I want him to come home to a home-cooked meal… Maybe tomorrow I'll make something that I'm used to eating before coming here so he can try it.
*Light*
"That was amazing Kira." I give a chuckle as she picks up our plates from supper. Standing as well I go to help her clean the table. "Where did you ever learn to cook like that?" I just had to ask. This makes the third time she has ever cooked for me and each time... I almost could forget her main source of nutrition isn't food. I watch as her cheeks flush red almost as if she was embarrassed by my comment before she turned and walked into the kitchen. I followed her with my hands full of the leftover food she had prepared. She was silent until I set the food on the counter and she was already pulling down plastic Tupperware from the cupboards that the last I knew were empty. -She must have done a major shopping spree while I was at school today.- I thought to myself as she began dipping the leftover food into individual containers.
"To be honest... Learning to hack, watching anime, or just all out finding ways to waste time wasn't all I used to do to keep myself busy. I found myself not only talking to the brooms and whatnot as they cleaned but I would mimic them from time to time. I even found websites that had videos to show the viewer how to cook something. So I would do that just to pass the time. My favorite were the chocolate treats." -Wait, did I just hear her right?- Turning slightly I look down at her long black hair that seemed to turn blue in the light with her movements.
"I thought you said you stayed in the house by yourself?" I found myself asking and she seemed to stop what she was doing, glancing up at me before averting her eyes away. -did she lie?-
"My mom used her energy to keep the house clean and running as if I had babysitters or something picking up after me."
"I… don't think I am understanding." Reaching to her I cup her chin in my hand raising her gaze back to me so I could look into her charcoal eyes. -If she knew what I was up to… Would she still be like this with me?- Shoving that thought from my mind as soon as it passed. I try and focus on the beautiful woman in front of me.
"Well, those similar to me have umm… hmm how to say this…. Well, energies... Kind of like power. Once we have full control over our power flow we can manipulate it to do things like… Making a broom suddenly start sweeping a floor. Creating barriers to keep people out of stuff like... My diary case. Creating death notes of our own, etc." I watched the gaze in her eyes waver as if she was trying desperately to find words that I would understand.
"So the energy you speak of is power. Like what I have with the death note?"
"Not exactly but that is a form. You yourself do not control the death note to make it work. Your energy really has nothing to do with it, though energy was used to create the Death Note, to begin with. Which is why Shinigami don't usually get more than one at a time. The energy to create something so powerful is extensive so it would weaken whoever creates one. With that being said you can understand why they don't just create a lot at a time. Why they aren't stockpiled. Anyway. You do not control the death note meaning the only say you have with how the death note works is when you write in it. But, in order for the death note to work, it must... Well, let's say combine its energy with yours so you can visualize who you want to kill and write the name. If the death note didn't synchronize with the writer like that, it wouldn't work."
"You have given this a lot of thought haven't you?" I ask as I pull her to me, holding her against me in an embrace. -I still have a lot of questions for you Kira.-
"Well, yes. In my quest in trying to figure out what I am capable of I learned quite a bit about energies and the like so. That would lead me to wonder how a death note actually worked." -Yes, and if it weren't for you. I would still be wondering... Actually, if you weren't here who knows where I would be right now..- "Umm, Light.." She spoke pulling me from my thoughts as she moved back putting a small amount of space in between us but not far enough for my arms to fall from her form. "Aphrodite is going to start training me tomorrow after school... Is it alright that you won't be able to walk me home?" -Perfect-
"I guess, you need to learn more about yourself right?" I watch as she gives a nod to my question. "Then I cannot complain about missing time with you after school. I'll just head on over to the task force headquarters once she picks you up." - My love, you have put yourself in harm's way for me. To make my life easier. It is time you no longer need to do so. You have followed your anime and kept me from L's suspicions, you have guided me and even removed obstacles from my path that as you said brought my story to an abrupt end. But now, we are no longer following your anime. The future is no longer certain. I cannot afford to lose you forever-
