Chapter 47

"Alessia.." I speak as I turn around taking notice of how the sunlight was already shining in through the window. She had sent everyone home just before sunrise and apparently had messaged specifically for my dad to not worry so much and try and lessen the stress in his life. Saying it was unhealthy for him to keep this pace for so long and she wouldn't wish for his untimely death. She even suggested that the entire task force to take a few days' break in order to clear their minds so they could start fresh at the beginning of next week. It was a rather logical reasoning. Although I personally think it was because she was hoping to catch up on some much-needed sleep. "Do you have a place to stay yet?"
Finally looking up from her pad where she had been sitting and reading through everything she had typed earlier since the others had left, her soft green eyes meet mine. Mere moments that felt almost like an eternity before she even looked back down and began typing her response to me. It seems something is on her mind for this time her response came slower than what I have noticed to be her usual. -I will be getting a hotel room when I leave here.- Such a short brief message leaving open the probability that she had rushed over here the second she had stepped off the plane. -Why?-
"As you know, Misa has been arrested for being the second Kira. Meaning her room is now vacant. If you would like you could stay here so you wouldn't have to travel every day. I also noticed you didn't bring any clothes with you. Misa should be about your size in most of her clothes so you could always use them until you can acquire clothes for yourself." I offered to her. Truly, I wanted to keep her close so I could keep an eye on her. To watch her every move. She just looked at me as if she was thinking before pattering away on her pad again.
-Thank you for the offer, but for now, it would probably be more practical to have my own place to stay. Is it not custom for people to move in with each other, especially of opposite genders, to be married first? Or at least engaged?-
She really is a good girl. I let out a slow breath leaning back in my chair watching her as she waits patiently for my response. "True, it is practical that way. Though I also believe moving in here since I have a spare room now would also be practical. I do not believe in the old-fashioned views so as far as I am concerned there would be no problem with you moving in. Either way.." I speak as I stand raising my arms in a stretch. I should probably go to my room and get some sleep but I would like to know what she decides first. "It is your decision Alessia. If for now, you wish to have a hotel room then that is also perfectly fine by me." She stood as well probably figuring that I was on my way to my room giving me a warm smile before glancing back down at her pad.
-For now, I will get a hotel room. We have only just met.- That's true. Well, it was a long shot I have known since she got here that she is a good girl. It was unlikely for her to accept on the first night. -We still have to get coffee sometime. Pick me up at 8 pm tonight since the task force is taking time off.- Coffee? Oh! I felt my eyes widen as I remember our conversation just on the verge of leaving the NPA. I had asked her for coffee and she had declined brushing my offer off saying maybe the next time she was in town. Probably thinking she wasn't about to return to Japan so quickly. I watch as she puts her pad into her shoulder bag before pulling the strap over her shoulder and leading the way out of the room. I am surprised by her words. I had thought since she tried to gently brush me off that she wouldn't even bring up the coffee. Does this mean she actually wants to have coffee with me, or did she think I remembered her brush-off and decided to respond before I made any attempts to try and ask her again?
Officially confused by the young woman I follow her out of the apartment giving her a smile as she walks out the door. "I'll be there at 8." I say even though she had already walked away. From her actions, she already knew I was going to pick her up at the time she gave. She held no doubt in her mind. I was mainly saying it to myself. She was a beautiful girl and if I expect her to take me up on my offer to move in with me. I am going to need her to trust me and get to know me well enough that she will feel comfortable even thinking about my offer. I stood there watching as she made her way down the street. Her long blond hair swaying nearly rhythmically with her movements. The ends of the shimmering tendrils, I could only guess to be silk-like, stopped just past her knees covering what I knew to be a well-rounded rear. She was indeed a beautiful sight that would almost be rather distracting.
The way the sun catches her glistening locks very nearly caused certain areas of her hair to look gold even though I knew she was more of a sandy blond. I can only guess there was ever one woman who could have matched her beauty. "Kira." I whispered to myself. Being reminded of her I shut the door and made my way to my room so I could try and get even a minute amount of sleep before I was to pick Alessia up for coffee. Laying on my bed I find myself looking up at the ceiling as I sift a hand into my hair and bring my bangs away from my eyes. I wonder if it will be silent between us tonight, or if we will find something to talk about.
My eyes widen as I take in a breath. Wait... She had said she hadn't gotten a hotel room yet. Though she specifically told me to pick her up. How am I supposed to know where to go? Closing my mouth I find my eyes drifting slowly closed. I see. It was a challenge. She hadn't completely forgotten that she had only promised this outing because she thought she wasn't going to return to Japan. She is saying, if you still want to take me out for coffee, then you are going to have to work for it. Not a bad move. She will get to see my detective skills at work almost as if it was some sort of test, and she will be able to get out of it if I do not find her. It would be a win, win for her. "She really is, a lot like L."

Upon walking into Lucien's Task Force Headquarters, I find him setting in front of his computer staring at the image of the New Task Force Headquarters. Walking up next to him I let out a sigh and pull a computer chair closer to him before dropping down into it. "Welcome back." He speaks quietly without even looking at me.
"Thanks, it feels amazing to be back." I tell him with a smile as I pull the strap from my shoulder bag off of my shoulder and set the bag itself on the desk. I knew he was probably going to ask if I got the book since he was shielded by the members crowding around the computer. So I pop the latch on my bag and slide out the thin black notebook setting it on the desk to the left of my bag. So it was now resting in between us. "Here it is." I unnecessarily say just because I can finally talk again.
"Yes." He whispers tearing his gaze away from the screen and now looking at the notebook. What's wrong with him? He seems far too quiet. I mean he is usually quiet but I thought we had made progress in the talking department.
"Who are we going to have test it?" I finally question, if only just to get him to speak more as he picks up the notebook with his pointer fingers and thumbs looking at it.
"I will arrange for someone to complete the task of testing it. The subject in question who it will be tested on, however..." He pauses his speaking before turning his attention back to the screen and clicking a button on his keyboard bringing up a new video. Raising my gaze I take in the sight of Misa Amane strapped to a stretcher in a full-body straight jacket. A metal visor over her eyes shielding whoever enters her chambers from view. She was also equipped with a gag in her mouth to keep her from talking. Though I was more betting from the anime I had watched along with the information I have now received twice. That since the last time she was confined and tried to bite her tongue, they were just taking that extra precaution to prevent from having to place it on her quickly again. And since we don't actually need a confession out of her this time we didn't need to make it so she can openly speak.
"I see, so did you get it agreed upon by the officials?" I question him as I continue to stare at Amane. The plan so far has worked perfectly. Amane was detained and so Rem went with her giving me free rein of the task force. While I was being briefed Lucien was supposed to be having a meeting with select officials urging them to keep the arrest of Amane quiet as well as letting them in on her execution that would cause her to just, disappear. Then I was to acquire the death note the detectives had kept hidden from the NPA while Lucien distracted them with that ridiculous conversation. Whether if they agreed to it or not. I was pretty sure Lucien had decided this is what we were going to do.
"Yes, they want Kira to disappear. When they heard that we had detained one of them and had presented them with the proper evidence. They didn't even hesitate to agree with my proposal." He says as I look away from Amane to see him stacking sugar cubes onto a spoon before dousing the pile with chocolate.
"I see, I would expect no less from the problem they all have been facing since these murders began." I give him a smile placing a hand on his shoulder to make him look at me. "We have nearly completed this case. Don't look so down."
"Yes." He says before turning his attention back to the sugar cubes and biting them off the stack a couple at a time.
"In about how long do you think we will have the book tested?" I question looking back up towards Misa Amane.
"Soon." That is all he said causing me to look back towards him as he bites a couple more cubes off the tower. I took that as my cue to leave. Standing I grab my bag and pull it back over my shoulder.
"I'll get a hotel room as we had discussed. Keep in contact if anything new comes to view."
"I will." He whispers causing a building sense of pain and worry as I watch him. Really, what is wrong with you Lucien? What aren't you telling me?
".. Are you alright, Lucien?" I give up and ask him as I turn back around to look towards him. He gives no movement to look towards me or even register that he heard me. Silence is all that met my question. Sighing I curl my finger around the strap to my shoulder bag. Finally looking away from him, I make my way out of headquarters to find myself a hotel. Right now, Light should be asleep still if not just waking up. I better purchase a room and get settled before he begins the hunt. Finding a smirk coming to the surface I nearly giggle with anticipation. I don't know why but I felt my veins humming with my growing excitement of this little game. I wonder if Light feels the same way about this little created scenario?
