Chapter 49
*Monday Morning*
*Light*
"Light, we just received some more evidence from prison inmates that seemed to have occurred in the space of a couple of days." Dad says walking into the room with a flash drive after returning from the NPA when Ide had called him there claiming to have something for the task force.
"Huh?" I ask looking at him. Evidence from prison inmates? I haven't used inmates to stump the task force since the beginning. What could be going on?
"Here, bring up what's on here so we can take a look." He hands me the flash drive causing me to look down at the device before finally turning back in my seat. I can hear the others scrambling off the couches to herd around the computer. It was then the door clicked shut behind us catching our attention.
"Good timing Miss Giosetta. We just received new evidence." My dad speaks before I hear another set of footsteps come up behind us so she can see as well. Placing the flash drive inside the computer and pulling up the document I first take note that they are basically nothing but pictures. Clicking the first one It shows almost an exact replica of when I had experimented with them. Slowly filling my computer with the images I place them so they are all viewable on my screen. The more I look at them the more they resemble my own work. What the hell?! I shout in my head. Did yet another Shinigami bring his notebook into the world?!
"They are almost identical to the ones before!" Matsuda exclaims. My dad makes sounds of agreement before Aizawa speaks.
"But, it isn't like Kira to repeat himself. What is he trying to prove doing this?" Exactly. Maybe they aren't all the same. I could feel as an extra weight is added to my chair by someone leaning on it just as a small pale hand comes into my view and pointing at the suicide notes. leading me to enlarging them and exiting down the ones of the deaths. They seemed just like normal notes just like I had done only…
-L do you know, what isn't seen and isn't heard..- She holds up her pad so we all can see as I glance at her. She caught that! She really is quick.
"What is that suppose to mean?" Matsuda questions as she just seems to shrug.
"I think what she is trying to say, is that we need to closely monitor what criminals are left in prison. I don't think he is done." I speak causing her to pause with her typing. She smiles at me and gives me a nod. "Maybe, Kira decided to do this so that we all knew what to look for. He is trying to communicate with us again." I continue getting another nod from her proving I was following her train of thought. But, this isn't my doing! Who else could be doing this? These pictures were never made public before so how does this guy know what I had done?
*1 week later*
"L do you know, what isn't seen, and isn't heard, does not mean, it isn't real?" Setting back in my computer chair I run through the recent photos we have received from the inmates. As I had thought there was another death but I hadn't expected this imposter to use a fourth. I had only left three the last time so if they were imitating me they should have just used three right? It's not even like this message is completely useless like mine. This is a clear hint. I can only guess to be about Shinigami like mine was, but what if it has a different meaning. What else is there that isn't seen and isn't heard? Turning in my seat I look back towards Alessia who was once again the last one remaining of the task force as she was just staring at her pad. "Do you have any thoughts on this message?" I decide to ask now spinning my chair so I can fully face her. She glances up towards me so I know she heard just before her finger slides across her pad switching screens like usual just before she began typing away.
-Could be a hint.- well that's an obvious one.
"What do you think it could be hinting to?"
-Well, Kira is someone who is staying away from view, the only proof of their existence is the people who keep dying. Kira himself isn't seen and isn't heard. It could be referring to his killing power or he himself.-
"So this message is useless then?" She thinks about my question before looking back down at her pad.
-Too soon to tell, we should continue monitoring Kira's murders closely and see if we find anything else that may shed some light on this message.-
"I agree." I speak before turning back towards my computer. Well, even Alessia couldn't help much in figuring out the meaning. Maybe it is just gibberish. My phone ringing causes me to shift in my chair and retrieve my cell phone from my pocket. Checking the caller ID. It was my dad? He should be at home by now. Pulling the phone to my ear after hitting the answer button, I speak. "Dad?"
- "Light, I got called into the NPA. It seems more evidence has surfaced. I'll be bringing it over to you first thing… Is Alessia still there?"-
"Yes, she hasn't left yet."
- "Good, I'll call the rest of the task force if this is actually anything leading to Kira. At least there will be three of us there to view it.-" What is this tone in his voice? What could this evidence be?
"Alright, I'll see you when you get here." Hanging up the phone I turn back in my chair to see Alessia was already looking at me. "That was my Dad, some new evidence has been received. He's bringing it over now." She nods then glances back down at her pad before finally standing and walking over to me with the device. "What..?" I go to question before she holds out her pad so the back of it was now facing the screen. Looking down it reads.
-Something about this doesn't seem right. The time difference between the first evidence and this one doesn't coincide with this next one. They are speeding up. I don't think this is the Kira we are familiar with.-
"You... Think, yet another Kira?" She gives me a nod as she furrows her brows, before looking back down at her pad as she pulls it away from me and begins typing. This is definitely bothering her. Who can blame her though, this has me completely upset. Finding out yet another person is toying with my work.
-A Third Kira maybe?- Maybe? It is. Why the question mark anyway? Isn't she certain about this thought?
"Possibly. Why do you think so?"
-As we said before, it's unlike Kira to repeat himself. We then thought it was because he just wanted to give us something familiar so we didn't overlook his messages. There are differences though. The first time he was quick and straight to the point. Mocking the task force. This time, he lengthened out the killings and his message was a bit longer and not so mocking. It doesn't feel like the same guy.-
"I can see what you mean. If this was the Kira we are familiar with he would be bold and basically be laughing at us while he is toying with his victims. But, this one seems to have a purpose behind their actions."
-Yes, we should take note of everything about these deaths and figure out how they differ from the original Kira.-
"I agree." Looking back to my computer I bring up all of the evidence so far with these new killings. It seems I didn't have to say anything about there being another. Alessia noticed it herself. This makes it easier. I don't have to play dumb and I can actually help move forward to finding this... Imposter.

After having spoken with Sapphire over the phone I felt a little better about leaving her with the task force. Was I really jealous? It's redundant of me to continue questioning that. When she is concerned, I am always jealous. Apart of me didn't even want to send her into the task force because it meant sharing her with the others. I knew once she was in we wouldn't be able to communicate much at all and the very knowledge made my stomach turn. Is this what Light felt when she had been detained? An empty pit in life itself, as if taking a breath was impossible from a heavy weight on my chest. My stomach turning to the point even my sweets didn't look appetizing to me. If this is what he felt... No wonder he had been a wreck.
I had been sitting here watching Sapphire and Light most of the night. It seems there was evidence piling before them that they were attempting to figure out. Problem is... Light seems as clueless as everyone else is. With Misa Amane being apprehended the second Kira should be out of the way. However, she had no death note on her... If that is even how they kill, meaning someone else must have it. And it seems, unlike Misa, this Kira was working independently. He doesn't want to meet the first he's just contacting the police and messing with them as if we were dealing with the original all over again. This alone would make me question if Sapphire had gotten her hands on a death note and received her memories once again but even she is having a hard time figuring out what is going on. Did Misa give her death note to someone? Did she share her power and not tell Light? No, that would be unlike her. Light would have known if she did such a thing. While clearly, he is completely confused. I can see it in his eyes, trying to figure out what is going on.
It is possible that information has been leaked somehow, which would be how they are mimicking what is already recorded. I feel my eyes widen at a sudden realization. He is trying to contact the original Kira! If he has somehow gotten a hold of the task force's case records then it would be obvious to anyone like-minded to the three of us that Kira is actually Light. Either that or they are taking a stab in the dark. Trying to provoke us into giving away some sort of information through our own actions of how we handle these new murders. I'm almost completely certain now, that they are trying to contact either Light or Sapphire. It is probable that they may have already suspected that the death of Kira Lake is a farce so I can't rule out them trying to get in touch with Sapphire herself. If they are... Then what will their next move be?
I narrow my eyes on the video of the task force as Yagami walks into the room catching Light and Sapphire's attention causing them to look back in his direction. He looked worse for wear. It seems these past few years have certainly taken a toll on him. "Dad, what's this new evidence?" Light asks as Sapphire stands straight with the pad I had gotten her at the ready to start typing if she needs to. He stops a short distance away from them standing straight as usual with a tint to his eyes. He looks almost too tired and even pale. Could his health not be standing up to the case?
"Three female criminals have been killed just after lockdown. They each drew patterns in their own blood on the floor just before they passed away." Yagami speaks before walking up to them and handing them the same flash drive he has been using to transfer files from the NPA to their headquarters. Light takes the flash drive then puts it into the USB of his computer. Bringing up more photos and documentation of each death. It seems all of them were under suicide watch anyway so it's plausible they could have just killed themselves without Kira's help but why make out these symbols?
It seems Light was having the same train of thought I was, for he enlarged the pictures containing the symbols in order from first death to the last one. A moon, star, and the symbol for god. Could this Kira really be targeting both Sapphire and Light? Saying it takes the two of them to be the god of this 'new world'? Or is he still specifically calling out Sapphire? She does have an affinity to moons and stars. She has them all over her backpack, wears star and moon earrings, her pens are riddled with crescent moons and stars. This Kira would have to know her personally though in order for these messages to be meant for her. "Wouldn't it be something if this Kira was trying to contact Kiara?" Light says sitting back in his chair.
"What do you mean by this Kira, Light?" Yagami asks just as Sapphire's fingers blur over the screen of her pad and tilts it so that Yagami, Light, and myself can see.
-Light and I already established this is the work of a different Kira. The probability of it being a different person is at least 80%.-
"What makes you say that?" Yagami questions looking from Light to Sapphire then back again. It didn't take long before Light began explaining their thoughts on who is killing these people and how they came up with it. Meanwhile Sapphire managed to sneak a glance towards the computer as if she was looking at the pictures when in actuality. She was gazing right at the camera. Causing me to wonder if she came up with the same probability that I had. That this Kira is trying to contact her and Light or as Light himself put it... Trying to contact Kiara.
