Chapter 53
*Light*
Leaning back in my computer chair I turn around to face the others just as they were getting ready to leave. These past few months have been a good change of pace. No matter how much I dislike another imposter out there. I haven't had to lie so much. Instead, I've actually been excitedly awaiting the new evidence to show. And each time more killings happened I was anxious to look at them. It wasn't as if I was admiring my own work anymore. There was someone new playing the field and when they weren't leaving evidence for me they were doing my killing for me. As if they knew what I wanted to happen and were doing it for me. Like they expected me to stop my killing just so I didn't tamper with what evidence could be given to me by them. So they were picking up the slack.
Standing I follow the task force out of the apartment wishing them a good night and bidding them farewell until tomorrow. Although, Alessia has become rather distant to me since that day in her hotel room. Maybe my abruptly hugging her like that scared her away from me. She was no longer staying long after the other members have left. Just like her texts have also stopped coming in on my phone. Like she didn't want anything to do with me anymore. Oh well. I shake my head after shutting my apartment door before walking to the dining room and pulling my papers out of a drawer I placed in there.
Setting at the table I scatter the printouts in front of me arranging them in order from the black writing I had labeled them in at the bottom of each picture. Pulling out my notes I set them aside along with the mechanical pencil I have been using. "Hey, Light. All you do is work. Why not go out for a while?" Ryuk questions causing me to exhale annoyed by him.
"I've told you before, this new guy is trying to tell me something in a way he doesn't want L or S to figure out. It will only work if I can decode his messages before anyone else does." I tell him simply. How I am tired of repeating myself.
"Why not ask your little girlfriend to help you?" He chuckles again causing me to look at him. Every time she is brought up in the conversation he always laughs like that. What could it be about her that's so funny? Used to, I could tell when someone's name is an alias because he would laugh just like that. But I know her name isn't real. There is no need for him to continue like this.
"She's not my girlfriend Ryuk, she is a pawn for L, therefore she is my enemy. Which means I need to figure this out before she does." Looking back to my notes I nearly smirk. "Besides, she has already helped me enough. She is on the right track with thinking this mess of clues is a letter to me." Yes, I've known this since she put moon and god side by side in her notes on her pad that day. This is clearly just for me. Not Kira, not Misa, not the police. No one but me. Ever since the four deaths that spelled Kira, there had been a few more messages to me.
Looking at the most recent photos that have been added to my collection I nearly laugh. These were more cryptic than their predecessors. Meaning. It holds valuable information that this new guy believes only I can decipher. At first, I thought they were normal killings that he has been mixing with his messages but when I looked more closely at them and the information about them I could tell they weren't normal. These men were found dead at night. Though they were the usual criminals which is why I almost passed them up. But, the finer details were masterful. One was found on the beach of a lake. Another in a graveyard with flowers for his loved one still in his hands. The latest one died inside of a hospital when he had been visiting his teenage daughter who had been involved in a hit and run resulting in her coma. "Yes, I think I have this all figured out."
"Huh? What do you mean?" Ryuk asks as he moves closer to me munching on one of my apples that apparently he had taken my thought process to go into the kitchen and retrieve.
Glancing at him I wonder how stupid he can be but then again, I figured out a long time ago that most of the time. I think he just wants me to explain things out so he knows if he has figured it out correctly. Looking back down at my notes I smirk. "To Kira, do you know what isn't seen and isn't heard does not mean it isn't real. This pertains to Star I believe. Signifying Kira. If I didn't understand that I believe these last messages were supposed to... Well, slap me across the face with the answer. What isn't seen is Kira that much I am sure about. And since they mentioned L along with what isn't heard I think he is meaning Alessia since she is mute. But what the problem I had was in the beginning of this, I thought it was weird, they used four murders when I used three. Then I quickly ignored that feeling as I became drawn in by their messages." Starting a new page I smirk writing down my thoughts. "If they are thinking the way I think they are. They are hoping I will look past the messages themselves. Meaning there were only three when I used criminals as experiments to toy with L. When you think about it like that…"
I pause re-reading the initial message. Before laughing. "Of course. What isn't seen and isn't heard, it isn't real. It was odd how they kept using isn't in nearly every message except for two."
"So... That message doesn't make sense either." Ryuk comments looking over my shoulder.
"What are you talking about? It makes perfect sense."
"Huh?" I give a chuckle.
"Each of these killings are based in groups. Meaning they all pertain to one another almost like a puzzle. What isn't seen, Kira. What isn't heard, L It isn't real, The graveyard. Two Kira, star, moon, god."
"Sounds like gibberish to me." Ryuk says as he engulfs another apple causing me to glare at him. Turning in my seat I pin him with a stare.
"They are saying Kira is alive." I state plainly even though saying this aloud made my heart thunder in my chest with a sensation of relief washing over me. Ryuk just laughs.
"How do you know it's telling the truth? Or if you've deciphered this correctly?" Looking back down at the papers I feel my chest grow heavy before I move all photos but seven of them.
"Look. It's right here." I say pointing at them.
"K.I.R.A" I point at the four then to the one with the beach. "Lake." The one with the hospital. "Coma." Then graveyard. "Death."
"Isn't that saying she's dead, not alive?"
"But remember the first messages? What isn't seen and isn't heard isn't real. Meaning her death was faked. Probably by Ryuzaki to get to me so he can continue his investigation only in the background until he can catch me." Ryuk laughs again. Seriously, what's with him?
Smiling to myself in triumph I pick up the papers again placing them back in the folder and putting them back into the drawer. I solved it. This new Kira isn't new at all. It's how they can guess my every wish. She is still alive. Now, I just have to find her." Walking into the living room I set down on the couch and turn on the T.V. The recent murders that night was odd. Even though they were labeled as occult killings something was telling me it was closely related to the mystery I've been trying to solve. They were drained of blood, and Kira has to drink blood. If she is awake and is the one leaving me these messages she probably pushed herself too long again. But this time without me there with her to curve her thirst she actually lost herself to her hunger.
So far it was just normal news. No new killings, and what has become usual, Kira supporters pledging their loyalty to me. Raising the remote I went to click off the T.V. Just as the screen went grey with the very same Kira logo that the task force had used when trying to communicate with Misa. Another hint? Standing now I stare at the T.V. If this is yet another hint then why broadcast it to the world? "To the people of the world, I am Kira. I wish to commend you all for your patience. Though the world is safer now than it was when I first began I still have work to be done. There are still those out there who wish to oppose me. They do not believe in a peaceful world. Do not punish them for their misfortune however, in time they will too accept the better world. Treat them with kindness as you would your fellow supporters, they have done nothing wrong. I just ask you all to be patient still. The time is coming closer when everyone will be equal and crime will no longer exist. With each passing day, we step closer to our salvation. Stay with my views and we all will see the finished creation of the new world."
So... Their message was reminding everyone how close I am to winning this war. How My empire is nearly completed. Telling them to not give up hope, and to treat each other with kindness is telling the world to remain honest. To not resort to crime. But why not punish my enemies? Just like that, the screen went back to normal causing the news announcers to be heard in their frantic efforts to get back onto the air. I found myself openly laughing. Yes, this is Kira. She hacked into the television stations and took control out of their grips. This time no physical evidence would be left! And knowing her. She made it so her hack was untraceable. This was her last message to me. Telling me to be patient and soon we'll be together again! I am not alone.
*Kira*
Upon walking out of the tower I had been using I pull my bag higher up onto my shoulder as I twirl my wire cutters around my fingers with a smirk. Not even the surveillance around this place can beat me. Giggling I stuff them into my shoulder bag before slipping out of the fence and making my way down the street. Everything is going according to plan and by the time anyone beyond Light figures it out it will be too late. Openly laughing I cut across the street making my way back to my latest hotel. To lose my memories for the last time. My phone going off causes me to halt my steps and dig it out. Looking down at the small borrowed device causes me to tilt my head in confusion. It wasn't the one going off…
Stepping to the side of the sidewalk so I was out of the way of those still out at this time of night I reach into my little hidden compartment of my shoulder bag where I house my death note and retrieve my sleek black touch screen phone. Looking at it I raise my brow. There is only one person here that knows this number… Shrugging I unlock the screen and check the caller I.D. Nearly laughing at the name I almost answer the call… That's right! I have all of his calls routed to Lucien... Shit. Watching as the ringing stops I frown. I need to know what he wants but... My eyes widen before I laugh again and hail a cab.

Slipping the untraceable phone through his letter slot on his door after I had watched the light flick off inside. I step back watching the time before I was sure he had made it to his room. Nearly giggling again I ring his doorbell twice before taking off running across the street. Practically diving into the shadows near a house so I can watch as his apartment lights turn back on.
Watching as his silhouette passes by a window on his way to the door I pull out my sleek black phone and open it up to the text screen. Making sure his new number was in the address box before, typing out the message I want him to read. Clicking send on the text I openly smile cradling the phone with both hands. -Light, your computer and cell phone has been hacked so S can watch and listen to you.-
-Kira?- Smiling fondly at his text I look back towards his house to see him peeking out his window trying to spot me. Tucking deeper into the shadows so I know I am hidden I smile watching him for a little longer before texting him again.
-I do not see that you have betrayed me. You did what you thought was necessary.- I message him before finally tearing myself away from the spot I was standing in and making my way through the shadows away from Light's apartment.
Light: You don't? Didn't I betray you though?
It seems he has felt guilty since that day. In actuality, he did betray me. But the reasons he had behind doing so was purely out of love and I can understand that. Besides, try as I might. I just can't seem to hate Light. - I will have to go away again soon. I am glad to know you figured out my messages.-
Light: Why do you have to go away?
-Trust me Light. Go back to how you've been, I will return soon and when that happens. Nothing will stand in our way.-
