Can't keep a god in check :
Silence filled the empty halls of the ruins once again now that Toriel had left, leaving Frisk free to leave the ruins if they wished, however this time they didn't plan doing so just yet.
Frisk had already been through this situation so many times before, by now they had memorised exactly what to say and what to do in order to go through the ruins as fast as possible.
They were trapped in an endless time loop despite being the one who was responsible for it. They had already tried to stop the RESETs before, it didn't work. It never did and it never would.
So Frisk found themself going through the underground again and again, trying to do something different every time in order to stay entertained. What would this person say if they gave them this item ? What would they say if they told that to them ?
Frisk was finding answers to all of those questions, one by one. Timeline by timeline. But even when they did try new things, more often than not it turned out not to have much impact in the long run, maybe one monster or two would say something different one time, only to go back to their 'normal' behavior later on.
This meant that most timelines were very similar to each other and for this reason...
They were bored.
However, there was one exception, there was one person who remembered their previous timelines. He wasn't as predictable as everyone else, he was the only other one who knew what it felt like.
Usually, whenever they tried to get Flowey involved in their games across space and time, he just ignored them. He wasn't keen on playing along with them. But in this timeline he was going to. They would make sure of it.
Frisk had a plan to force him to listen to what they wanted. If the plant refused to play by their rules, they would just LOAD their SAVE file over and over for no reason until he got sick of it and accepted in order to get them to stop doing that.
This was a flawless plan, Frisk smiled as they backtracked to Toriel's home instead of progressing, they had something to do before going to meet Flowey. They had a few things they needed to take with them.
Frisk went back to the room Toriel offered to them hundreds of times before sitting down and starting to dig through the box filled with toys and various games.
Frisk what are you doing ? A familiar voice asked them.
It had been quite a while since they heard from Chara, she had been very silent for the past few dozen timelines. The sense of humor she once had had mostly faded away after going through the same journey so many times.
Chara had gotten a bit more distant from them compared to the first few timelines, but they still considered her their best and only friend.
"You'll see" They answered, earning a small groan from the other child.
Now carrying what they needed with them, Frisk went back down the stairs and across the corridor, they stepped forward in the next room where they knew a certain talking golden flower would greet them as always.
He was there.
Flowey looked perplexed as he saw them show up with all of this in their arms, after hesitating a small moment the flower decided to talk.
"What is... this ?" Flowey of course knew exactly what those were, but he was confused about what use Frisk could possibly have for them.
Frisk thought for a second about what way they should put this before coming to the conclusion that Flowey didn't care about how subtle or polite they were, he just cared about the facts, so might as well just say it as it is and see how he reacts to that.
"Let's play a board game"
...
Are you serious ? Is this really what you wanted to do ?
Flowey looked at them with a small grin and giggled.
"Every single timeline i tell myself that you cannot possibly act like even more of an idiot than the last one, and yet you just keep on proving me wrong !" The flower mocked them.
Of course it wasn't gonna be this easy, but they were going to get him to play, one way or another.
"Why not ? You've told me before that the reason you don't interact with this world anymore and just watch what i do from the shadows is because you have already seen every possible outcome, and that there is no interest in repeating something you've already done too many times to count. Because its not interesting."
"And ?" Flowey looked annoyed with them.
"Well... Playing a board game with me is something that you have never done in any timeline before, that would be completely new even for you, wouldn't that be so much more interesting than just watching me trying something that you've already tried a hundred times ?"
The soulless creature actually looked like he was considering it now, looks like that argument had some effect on him, maybe they wouldn't need to LOAD to force Flowey into accepting after all ?
After a few more moments, Flowey decided to speak up again.
"I know what you're doing" He concluded.
"What do you mean ?" Frisk responded unsure of what the flower was trying to say.
"You're just trying to use me to entertain yourself, just like you did with all the other monsters. I know the feeling, i've been in your place before. You just want to see what i'll say or what i'll do depending on what you say to me. Well too bad kid, i am a GOD and i REFUSE to be merely just another pawn in that little game of yours"
"Damn it", they thought. Then, they had another idea...
"Too scared to play against me ? I guess that means i win by default then, i didn't know you sucked at board games Flowey" With those words, Frisk turned back and started walking away from Flowey. He had way too much pride to just take that insult, Frisk was betting on that...
And they were right.
Suddenly, the pathway back was blocked by several vines that came out of the ground. They turned around once again to find the talking flower staring at them in the eyes with an evil grin.
"What. Did. You. Just. Say ?"
They did it, there was no way Flowey could back off after saying that, they wouldn't need to put their plan to use in the end.
"Prove it then" They told him, smirking knowing that Flowey had no choice now but to do so in order not to lose face, and Flowey would never let that happen.
Another vine came out of the ground and slashed at them, but it didn't actually hit them, it just hit all of the games they were transporting. They all fell to the ground except for one : a chess board. Frisk took it as Flowey challenging them to it.
Frisk wasn't particularly good at chess but they knew the rules well and they knew what they were doing... sort of. They might be able to win, actually they thought that Flowey's reaction would probably be way better if he lost, so now they really wanted to win to try and see that happening.
Frisk sat down in front of where Flowey was standing, the flower used a couple vines to pick up the board, open it and set up the pieces. Flowey was able to do so in just a few seconds, he was quite fast using those vines, well he must have years and years of experience with them.
Once Flowey was done setting it up, he turned the board around to place the white pieces on their side.
"Losers first" Flowey mockingly told them. He was seemingly quite confident.
"Chara ?" They asked her through their mind. Most of the time they talked to Chara they did so out loud, they had discovered they could communicate with Chara mentally if they wanted but it wasn't very comfortable so they usually didn't. However in front of Flowey this was the only option available to them.
What is it ?
"Can you help me with this ?" They wanted to win and they didn't talk to Chara much recently, this could be a great way to do both at once.
What makes you think im any good at this game ? Im not. Their partner answered.
"Well you can try, better this than nothing" Frisk insisted.
Alright i'll try to help, but don't expect much.
This would be enough for them.
Flowey was getting impatient waiting for them to start, so they did so by moving the pawn in front of the king by two tiles, that's how people always start as far as they know.
Flowey grabbed one of his own pieces and pushed it forward as soon as they played, barely took a second. Looks like he already knew what he was going to play beforehand. Either that or he knew they would start like this.
Flowey's face did not betray anything, it didn't express any emotion whatsoever. But then again if there was anyone in the whole underground who would be able to do that, it would be Flowey...
A few more turns passed, Flowey's turns never lasted more than two seconds while Frisk made sure to triple check everything they did as not to make any dumb mistake.
Maybe move that knight forward again ?
"But if i did that Flowey could just move that pawn and force it back, then i'd have wasted a turn" They pointed out mentally.
Hey ! I told you i wasn't good at this, im trying ! Chara answered slightly annoyed.
Frisk decided to play it slow, they wouldn't make any bold moves or take any big risks, they really wanted to take this seriously. If they made sure not to mess up and slowly came up with a plan they should be able to win.
Or so they thought.
They were not ready for what was about to hit them.
They couldn't do anything, they couldn't pierce Flowey's position, whenever they thought they had an idea, Flowey always played exactly what prevented them from doing it.
They couldn't even take a single piece, the only times Flowey lost anything was while trading for one of their own pieces, and even then it was always either an equal trade or one to Flowey's advantage, never in their advantage.
"Check" Flowey added smiling after moving his knight to fork their king and their queen, they had no choice but to move the king away. Flowey then took the queen with the knight and went back to his neutral expression. They were starting to hate that expression.
Bit by bit, they were more and more restrained in what they could play, they were losing. They had an idea, if it wasn't going their way then they should try and play something risky to trick Flowey, if he didn't see it coming they could maybe even the playing field again.
He saw it coming, and Frisk ended up even worse off than before.
It was like Flowey planned everything they could think of in advance, no matter what they thought of he was just ahead of them. What could they even do ?
"Check" Flowey had moved a bishop to threathen their king this time, they had to move it out of the way again, letting Flowey take the rook behind the king with the bishop. Flowey's expression stayed undisturbed, what if that was it ? Maybe Flowey could tell what they wanted to do based on their expression ? They tried being more careful about this from now on.
It didn't help.
You're losing. Chara added salt into the wound.
"Thanks for pointing it out, i hadn't noticed ! That was really helpful !" They usually weren't the one to make sarcastic comments, well whatever. Chara would get a taste of her own treatment this time.
Frisk was lost, they had no idea what to do anymore, they couldn't think of any more tactics and Flowey would probably just see it coming anyways.
At this point they were just randomly moving around pieces because they had to play something. They had no real strategy left.
Flowey took their last bishop, their last piece that wasn't a pawn or their king. Now they only had the king and a couple pawns left.
They moved one pawn by one square, no real reason behind it, they just had to play something.
Flowey brought over a rook from the other side of the board to finish the job.
"Checkmate" Flowey's neutral expression finally dropped revealing a large grin. They changed their mind, now they liked it better when he wasn't expressing anything.
They didn't respond, they didn't know what to say...
"You lost" Flowey insisted, seemingly frustrated that they were showing little to no reaction to losing after previously bragging about how they were better than Flowey at those games.
Frisk had an idea.
They had a very good idea. It made them smile in advance.
That would be a very good way to mess with Flowey, they snickered thinking about how he was going to react to this in a moment.
LOAD
"No i didn't !" They answered Flowey.
Are you serious ?
The talking flower looked down to see the board just as it was 10 minutes ago, in the middle of their game. His face scrunched up at the realisation of what they had just done. He looked annoyed.
"Yes you did and we both know it" The flower stated.
"No i didn't since we never finished that game" They answered pointing at the board, still grinning.
Flowey was getting sick of it. Sick of their games.
"Oh you think you're REALLY smart, don't yo-" Then he stopped, Flowey looked like he was thinking about something. His expression changed again. Quite suddenly too. It seemed that whatever Flowey was about to say, he had just thought of something else now. He had changed his mind about it.
Flowey pensively stood there for a few seconds before speaking up again.
"Fine then, you say i didn't win because we never finished the game ? Alright then, lets finish the game and see how that one goes" Flowey suggested.
He wanted to play again ? To start over from midway through ? They hadn't expected this outcome at all. The reaction they expected from Flowey was closer to what he had started to say before changing his mind about it. Normally at this point he would just call them an idiot or something before leaving, taking it as a victory and refusing to continue dealing with them for a few timelines.
He didn't usually play along, and certainly not so... eagerly ? Flowey actually looked somewhat enthusiastic at the idea of playing again. Maybe they had gotten it right, that doing something he hadn't done before was keeping him interested and made him want to keep it going rather than going back to 'boring' stuff.
Then they thought about what Flowey's reaction to losing would be again. If he lost now, after what he had just said, he would probably get even more frustrated than if he lost from the first try ! They wanted to see that happening, and so they gave him a quick nod, accepting his challenge. Plus even if they still lost, they could just LOAD again and give it yet another try, until they won ! With determination on their side they couldn't ever lose. Not in the long run at least.
After their last defeat, now they had experience !
They would get it right this time !
It didn't play out as expected.
Not only were they still not able to do anything but it went even worse for them somehow, Flowey attacked aggressively and they had no counter, they lost in just 7 moves after the point they had started over from. How did they lose this fast ? How were they doing so much worse when this time around they had more experience with dealing with this position ?
"Checkmate" He laughed at them as he often did whenever things didn't go their way.
"Did you really think i would go easy on you again ?" Flowey mocked them.
...'again ?' So he was going easy on them the first time ? That's why they lasted much longer ?
...So Flowey was just playing with them last time, to see what their reactions would be by keeping the game going on purpose when he could have won earlier if he so wanted.
Just like they were also playing with him, to see how he'd behave when asked to play a board game with them.
The two of them were more similar than Frisk was ready to admit.
But they had the power, they could out-stubborn Flowey eventually.
LOAD
Oh come on Frisk...
After seeing Frisk seemingly teleporting slightly to the left, Flowey could tell without even looking at the board that they had LOADed again.
When he did, he saw that the board was once again back to 7 moves ago. So they were not giving up, they were still planning to try and beat him, to win that game.
"You idiot... Do you really still think you can beat ME ?"
After a couple seconds of thinking, Frisk simply answered :
"Yes"
Flowey was halfway between amused and annoyed.
"I can try as many times as i want, i can win this. Its just a matter of time before i do."
"And what if i just left right now ?" Flowey asked the question but he didn't seem to be planning on doing so, he was just wondering what their answer would be.
"I'd LOAD my SAVE to make you come back to before you left, you're not escaping from this" Now they were the one who had Flowey unable to do anything. How the tables have turned.
"Fine then" The flower answered. "I guess i have no choice but to make you give up by beating you over and over"
No, they weren't going to give this up, they would play 30 times if they had to !
"try me" They told him while moving their piece, Flowey moved one of his own and the game continued a third time. It didn't go much better for Frisk, it took 9 moves this time but they were still obliterated.
LOAD
They needed a new plan, this time they LOADed further back, maybe at this point in the game they were already screwed. If they went further back it should be easier for them this time around.
They didn't make the same mistakes as last time, but clearly they must have made new ones instead because they were still losing, they still couldn't take a piece from Flowey without losing one as well, usually more valuable. What worried them wasn't that they were losing, its that they were getting destroyed. It wasn't even close...
"How ?" They asked after losing yet again. Just how could Flowey just always be ahead of them ? There was clearly a big skill difference here, and not in their favor.
"Remember how i told you i tried everything this world had to offer ? That doesn't just mean making friends or killing, that also includes little things such as learning to build machines, to sing or to play chess"
Flowey knew how to build machines or to sing ? That sort of made sense, he would have learned those in one timeline or another. It felt a bit wrong trying to imagine him doing that though. Did that mean that there was a timeline where Flowey ate Papyrus' spaghetti ? Or watched anime with Alphys ? There probably was if he really did try out everything. That was funny to imagine...
That didn't change much though, they weren't going to give up just because he had some more experience.
LOAD
This time they went back to the very start, back to an even playing field. At a point where Flowey had not yet planned anything at all. A fresh start where they had all their chances again.
They still lost, they weren't even actually making progress either, they were just losing in a variety of different ways over and over.
How many more times are you going to be doing this ? Chara seemed to be getting sick of the chess games, it didn't matter much. She had stopped helping after the second try anyways, and truth to be told her advice just wasn't very good.
They kept trying, they really did. But it just wasn't going anywhere. They still couldn't manage to pose a threat to Flowey.
Frisk had to come to the obvious conclusion : This wasn't working.
This wasn't something that they could just do over and over until it worked. Chess had too many possibilities, it couldn't be done through trial and error. No matter how many times they tried they could never win if they didn't have the skill to make their attempts worth anything.
Its like trying to punch down a building, try as you can you just can't do it with your fists no matter how hard you hit it. You need to actually know what you are doing, to use a bomb or something instead to bring the building down.
They simply weren't good enough at chess to be able to beat Flowey.
But they could learn.
They could be able to win if they got better at the game itself, and they just so happened to have someone who knew exactly what he was doing in front of them. They could learn from Flowey instead of trying to outsmart him. They could try to understand how he played in order to get better.
This was their big advantage, if Flowey was so much better than them then he wouldn't get better by playing against them over and over, but they could improve.
LOAD
They went back to the start again, but this time they weren't playing to win but to learn, they weren't even trying to win at all. They just played through the first dozen moves, then LOADed again, even if they weren't losing badly yet.
they did that over and over, analysing what Flowey's first dozen moves were. After doing this so many times, they started to see a pattern in the way Flowey played his opening moves.
He tried to gain control over the center of the board, he tried to develop his pieces and usually castled fairly quickly. He didn't do it the same way every time depending on how they played, but it seemed those were the common points behind Flowey's early moves across all the game they played.
And as such, they deducted that these must be what makes good opening moves. And tried applying these rules as well from now on.
It did seem like things were going better, they were still on the losing side after these ten moves but on average Flowey's lead wasn't anywhere close to as large as it used to be after the opening.
But even then, the ways Flowey gained said lead were often similar, after all there are only so many tricks you can play this early in the game, and Frisk could only fall for those so many times before they were able to see them coming.
It had been dozens and dozens of games at this point, but now they had managed to reach a point where they were satisfied with what they had accomplished so far. They managed to play through the opening once without Flowey having a lead on them yet.
They decided to start over from this point now when they would LOAD, they would start practicing the mid game next.
Unfortunately, this part of the game turned out not to be as easy to learn for them.
There were so many more possibles moves, so many turns. So many more different strategies to use. That made it way harder for Frisk to find any pattern or any sort of 'magic formula' on how to get better.
Flowey had surely realised what they were up to at this point, although he hadn't said anything about it. He surely knew, and would try to play in a way that would make it even harder for them to learn.
LOAD
They kept falling for tricks, they kept losing pieces. Sometimes faster, sometimes slower, it was always different. They kept being defeated in unique ways. They could recognise how he valued his pieces and a few recurring ways he took pieces from them by now, but there was no clear pattern that they could notice so far in how he played at this point in the game.
LOAD
But wait... they don't actually need to know how to play mid game right in any situation, they just needed to know how to play this very position in particular, this exact position that they were LOADing to whenever they lost.
Despite how terrifyingly complex this all was, this exact position they started from could only have so many different traps Flowey could lay, right ?
When they saw this still wasn't working very well, they came up with yet another idea. They tried to play in a way that reduced the number of different moves that both Flowey and them could play, restraining the possibilities would make it easier to learn since it meant less diversity between each game.
Frisk also tried to force the game into slow positions where not much was happening, to try and analyse in what way would Flowey be able to break this situation in his favor when he eventually would.
Using both of these methods together over and over, they should be able to get somewhere eventually.

LOAD
They were getting better at this, they could feel that they were. After watching Flowey playing this position so many times they had gotten a hold of how Flowey perceived the board, which helped them improving at this task as well.
They weren't even able to put into words what they were doing that was better compared to a hundred games ago, but they could tell that they were improving at playing this position, or well maybe they were just getting more and more used to it rather than actually being better at it ?
It didn't matter, they were doing a better job at holding back Flowey and that was all there was to it that held importance.
They couldn't let Flowey win, they couldn't let him have the satisfaction of making them give up. Heh, maybe in the end they also had too much pride to let themselves insulted. Since when did they have pride ? Must have happened at some point in their RESETs.
Something grabbed Frisk's attention, there was a pawn that appeared vulnerable. If they played like this then in three moves they should be able to take it. Was that a trap ? Well if it was they could just LOAD so might as well try.
It wasn't, after playing for who knows how long, Flowey had actually made one small slip up. It was nothing much really, they did worse mistakes than this hundreds of times. But they could do something Flowey couldn't, they could make it permanent. They could go back to this point from now and Flowey's tiny mistake would remain forever in all future games.
That was the first time they had any sort of favorable position against Flowey, ever. After so many failures after failures. They saw for the first time that this could get somewhere, that Flowey wasn't entirely perfect at this game either.
They ended up being tricked again shortly after and decided to LOAD as they knew they had no chance, back to after taking that pawn. They had a permanent advantage of one pawn against Flowey and they were going to make sure to use it right.
In the next few games Flowey took way more time for each of his moves than normal. He didn't make it obvious but he was really annoyed at himself for letting that slip up happen. Now he was making sure not to risk making another one.
After a few more failures, Frisk thought of something.
One pawn is almost nothing when both players have many pieces. But if the players barely have any pieces left, one extra pawn becomes a big deal. This was their new plan, they would try and make as many equal trades as possible to lower the amount of pieces left on the board for both of them. The more they did so the bigger that tiny advantage they had should get.
Of course it wasn't as easy to do as it was to say. Usually when they did force an exchange they left Flowey a chance to take a piece from them six moves down the line or something. Then they'd have to restart, having lost that advantage they were betting on.
Whenever they did manage to get Flowey to trade a piece in a way that wouldn't backfire on them. They would make it their new starting point. After countless tries, bit by bit, the board did start to get emptier.
"Check" Frisk said, it didn't have much impact. Flowey just blocked the check and that was the end of it, they couldn't capitalise on it to take anything from Flowey like he could with them. But the simple fact that they could actually put him in check once every few timelines was already very satisfying seeing how badly they were losing at first.
And still they still had that one pawn of advantage.
They were getting there.
...Or were they ?
Eventually Frisk noticed that something wasn't right. Something didn't quite go how they had planned.
It wasn't getting easier and easier to get equal trades with Flowey, it should have been. Less pieces meant less possibilities and their advantage should be getting bigger, so why wasn't it getting any easier ? Why was it getting harder even ?
It was the position. Even if you have more pieces, if they are not placed as well as your opponent's on the board, they might actually be better off than you.
When they were trading away half the board, it wasn't perfectly equal exchanges. It was in terms of pieces but Flowey had somehow managed to make them do it in a way that allowed him to very slowly get a position that was slightly better on average than theirs. After doing so many times, that slightly better position was now enough to compensate the pawn he lost.
Their advantage hadn't gotten bigger, it had gotten smaller.
But there was simply no way Frisk could have avoided this, even if they knew what Flowey was doing. They couldn't just look at a board and say that this position was slightly better than this one. They could tell so if someone was about to lose a piece in a few turns but they didn't have this ability to analyse the whole board. That was way above what they were capable of.
But they had gotten so far, they had gotten to the endgame even !
They wouldn't give up on all of this and go back to when they first took the extra pawn !
Frisk lost again, many times.
LOAD
But they were so close...
LOAD
But then it clicked. They were only so few pieces left for both of them. Little moves that actually made sense.
And that meant...
They could bring back their oldest strategy, trial and error. Now it could actually work !
LOAD
It was hard, it was extremely long, but eventually they were able to figure out what move was the right one during their turn, then used it as the new starting point and moved on to do the same thing with the next turn.
After a few more turns, they got to a point where things always ended the same way a dozen turns down the line.
A couple trades then Flowey would manage to get one of his last two pawns to the other side of the board, turning it into a queen. Which forced Frisk to LOAD.
The game always ended like this, it seemed that Flowey didn't have any other options as to how to turn the tide in his favor. If he did he'd try and mix things up to make it harder for them knowing him. Or maybe that was just wishful thinking on their part ?
LOAD
Frisk tried to prevent it from happening to no avail.

They kept trying out different ways.
LOAD
There must be something they could do, there had to be a way to block him from doing it.

LOAD
They did it, or at least it looked like they did it ? Maybe they were merely able to delay the inevitable ?
They only had four pieces left and Flowey had three, he still had the better position though.
Flowey spent a whole two minutes thinking about what to do for his next turn rather than the usual 15 seconds he usually took at this point in the game. He really was running out of tricks ! Eventually he played something strange, leaving a pawn hanging. After thinking a bit they realised it was a trap and didn't fall for it. Flowey groaned a bit, he wasn't able to keep his neutral face anymore.
Frisk took their time with every move that came after this. Making sure Flowey didn't come up with yet another trick. He didn't. Eventually he was still able to force them to give up the one extra pawn they had but lost his 'good position' doing so. Frisk didn't make it the new starting point, unsure wether this was good or not.
They both only had the king and one pawn left now, two pawns one row away from each other. Neither of them could move the pawn one more tile without losing it and could only move the king.
They played repeated moves two times. Flowey had to break the cycle by playing something else, moving their king to the side, Frisk did the same from the other side. After a long moment of consideration, Flowey moved his king one more step to the side. Staying in range of Frisk's pawn but leaving his own undefended. Frisk took the pawn and Flowey took theirs in response.
Only the kings were left.
It was a tie.
Stalemate.
Frisk raised their arms in the air in satisfaction.
"I did it !" They screamed, Toriel had probably heard them if she hadn't left for the flower bed yet, but they couldn't care less.
"No you haven't. You still haven't won." Flowey responded.
"You said you'd beat me over and over until i gave up. You didn't beat me. That means i win." Frisk answered with a smug.
"Have you forgotten why we've been doing this in the first place ?" Flowey giggled. "Let me remind you"
Flowey inched his face to the side to symbolise that he is talking as the first person of a conversation.
"You idiot... Do you really still think you can beat ME ?"
Flowey's face morphed into an imitation of their own face, then he tilted it the other way to show that he is now talking as the other person from said conversation.
"Yes" Flowey answered with a voice that sounded a lot like theirs, his face then turned back to a creepy grin. "You haven't done that." Flowey pointed out. "And you never will."
"You still said you could make me give up by beating me, not by stalemating. You lost your end of the deal Flowey" Frisk insisted.
"And you said that you beating me was just a matter of time. You've failed. You can't beat me." Flowey reminded them.
"Sorry i can't hear you over the sound of my victory" They taunted Flowey as they got up and turned away.
They were more than happy with taking this as the end of this madness. Honestly they had gotten really tired of these chess games too. How many games had they played in total ? Hundreds of times surely but they couldn't tell just how many times exactly.
Chances are if it wasn't for the LOADing bringing back their natural needs as well, they would have died of thirst before getting to this point. They had been playing for this long with no pauses.
Does this mean you'll finally do something else ?
"Yes" They answered mentally.
You have no idea how boring this was.
"More boring than watching me sleep ?" They asked Chara.
At least it doesn't last for days on end.
"You idiot..." Flowey muttered to himself before leaving through the ground, unsatisfied with Frisk calling quits.
Now that their mind was free again. Frisk thought of something else they could do to have fun through space and time. This time it involved a certain tall skeleton. Frisk made their way to the exit of the ruin where they would meet him and his brother for the "first" time.
They opened the large door and felt the cold wind of Snowdin forest in their hair.

Toriel having a chess board is actually confirmed to be true in the greenlight trailer of Undertale. Since Flowey has won every game and lost every game in the underground, Flowey having played chess is actually canon !
This fic takes place in the same world as my other fic "The third one", during chapter 11. Please go check it out if you haven't.
