Thanks to everyone who answered my question. Like you, I don't think Amy would have been capable of sleeping with another man, no matter how nice he was. And I'm happy that Sheldon and Amy were back together seconds later.

Enjoy the chapter and have a nice week!

"Hello," he said with a smile when Amy opened the door.

"Hello," she smiled back at him, "Come in" she stepped aside to let him into the apartment.

They looked at each other for a couple of seconds in awkward silence until Dave asked, "Can I give you a kiss?"

"Yes, that would be fine." Amy closed her eyes as she expected to feel the lips of the man in front of her on hers, but instead he placed a kiss on her cheek.

"I'm sorry" Dave said realizing that she thought he was going to kiss her on the lips "I enjoyed kissing you yesterday and if you want I could do it again but…yesterday you seemed quite nervous after our kiss so I don't want you to do something you don't want, just because someone told you or because you think you should. "

"Wow…that's very considerate of you."

"I'm a very considerate person." He winked at her and Amy felt more relaxed.

"Would you like to start eating? "

"Please. I must say that I only ate some bread in the morning, so I'm starving."

Like the gentleman that he was, Dave pulled Amy's chair up for her and then walked over to his seat. They were chatting and exchanging information about a science conference that had happened the night before while they were on their date.

Amy hadn't read anything about the conference but Dave seemed very happy to answer the woman's questions.

When they finished eating Amy was about to pick up her plate when Dave's hand grabbed it before she did.

"Remember that yesterday I told you that if we had another date, I would be the one to clean up the dishes," he said, standing up. "It's your turn to wait on the sofa."

"Okay" Amy handed him the glasses and then he motioned to the sofa "Fine" she raised her hands in surrender.

A few minutes later Dave sat next to her in the same place he had sat the night before.

"So…" Amy bit her lip "Can you tell me what happened last night?"

"You asked me if I was expecting us to have" he blushed slightly "You know, coitus. And before I could give you an answer, you…"

Amy took the glass of wine that she had left on the table and downed the entire content in one gulp.

"What a good wine" she commented without looking at Dave "Aren't you going to drink yours? " Amy didn't expect the man to answer and she also drank the wine from his glass.

"Amy" She tried to put a hand on her shoulder but she had already stood up and was walking towards the refrigerator "Are you okay?"

"Am I okay?" she looked at him before opening the refrigerator "Of course I'm fine" she took out the bottle of wine and took a sip "Better than fine. I feel great and ready for anything. "

Dave also stood up and went to where Amy was "So you want..."

"What I want is for you to tell me, what's going on? " He took the bottle from her hands, which was practically empty and left it next to the sink "Why did you suddenly get so nervous about the possibility of having intercourse with me? If you don't think I'm attractive or...

"No. You have facial features that are considered attractive," she said. "It's just that the idea of intercourse is something that worries me."

"Why? It's not like you never had…" He saw Amy's eyes moisten before she looked away, "Oh…!"

"That's right" she giggled "I'm almost thirty-four years old and I've never had sex with anyone."

"But you told me that you were in a relationship with… your old boyfriend for five years" he commented not sure how to continue.

"Yes, well. You clearly don't know the real Sheldon."

"You don't need to tell me about him," Dave assured her. "Sure, unless you want to."

Amy grabbed the bottle and drank what was left of the wine "What do you know about Sheldon? "

"Well, I know all about his work. He is brilliant. "

"He is," she said with a disgusted face, "But I mean if you know anything about his curious personality."

"Many of my partners think that he is as brilliant as he is arrogant, but I think he is a person with an interesting personality. What else? I know he doesn't like to shake hands when greeting someone he doesn't know. "

"Or the people he knows" Amy snorted "We had known each other for six months the first time we held hands. At that time, I only saw him as a friend, but when I realized what I felt for him... " she shrugged "I thought that by this point something more would have happened between us than a few kisses" she wiped away a tear that It dripped down her cheek "I'm sorry, you must think I'm pathetic for crying over my ex."

"No, not at all" Dave gave her a gentle squeeze on her hand "You heard me complain about my wife, it's fair that you complain about your ex" he saw Amy make a face "Are you okay?"

"Excuse me" she put a hand to her mouth and ran as fast as she could to get to the bathroom.

Dave waited a few minutes but seeing that Amy didn't come back he went to the bathroom. The door was closed so he knocked on the door a few times.

"Amy, I'm going to go in" Dave told when he heard that she didn't respond. He opened the door and found the woman asleep on the floor "Amy, Amy" he gently moved her to wake her up.

"Hey! " she said when she opened her eyes "I feel horrible."

"What do you think if I take you to your room? So you can sleep" he exclaimed when he saw the expression on Amy's face.

Dave help Amy to get to her feet "My room is that door over there" she indicated when they were walking down the hall.

"Oh my god!" Embarrassed, she covered her face with her hands. She had remembered everything that happened the night before "I can't believe everything I did and said. "

"Amy…"

"The things you must think of me!"

"I think you are a beautiful, intelligent and incredibly patient woman." She looked up in surprise.

"Really? "

"Yes, and also an excellent cook," Amy giggled.

"Thank you, Dave. I feel much better now" After seconds of hesitation she leaned towards him and kissed him.

Dave put his hands on Amy's arms to break her kiss "Amy was serious when I said you don't have to kiss me because you think you should."

"I know, it's just that I wanted to."

"Well, in that case you can kiss me whenever you want" he smiled kindly "But, you waited years in a relationship with Sheldon without having intimacy. It's obvious you loved him, or possibly you still love him, so I don't want you to rush things between us to try to forget him."

"No, I don't…" Amy bit her lip "You're right" she sighed "You've been nothing but nice to me and you deserve to know the truth."

"You can tell me anything," he assured her.

"I was very patient with Sheldon for years. I respected his idea of not having intercourse and I agreed. Little by little, physical contact increased between us. Then told me that he loved me and everything was going great."

"So what happened?"

"The day of our fifth anniversary Sheldon and I were kissing. When we parted ways I said that I was happy and the first thing he said was that he was thinking of watching a new series. It may sound pathetic but at that moment I realized that Sheldon had never been interested in kissing me since his mind was elsewhere and that maybe he only kisses me to please me and not because he wanted it.

"Or maybe he wanted it too much," Dave commented.

"What are you talking about?"

"Well, normally when I'm with a woman intimately I try to think of other things so as not to…"

"I understand your point," she interrupted when she saw that he was blushing. "But that's not what happened with Sheldon. He wasn't interested in me in that way."

"Look, maybe this will make me lose any opportunity to have a relationship with you, but I think you should talk to Sheldon and ask him what was going through his head that night. "

"That is not necessary. Sheldon and I went out a couple of weeks ago" she said without looking at him "I realized that I still have feelings for him and I told him that I was ready to be his girlfriend again. I didn't care if we never had coitus. I wanted to be with him but he made it clear to me that he just wants us to be friends."

"I'm sorry."

"No need. It's…it's for the best" they looked at each other in silence for a few seconds "This is the part where you tell me you have to go, right?"

"Why would I go?"

"Because clearly I'm still in love with a man who doesn't love me and you don't want to waste time with me."

"On the contrary," he said, "I still think you're an incredible woman and if you want we can continue with this… as friends. And if in a few months you decide that we can only be friends" he shrugged "I will accept it."

"Are you serious?" He nodded. "You're amazing." This time Amy leaned down to kiss him on the cheek. "Friends?" She offered her hand.

Dave took her hand "Friends."

At dusk Amy found herself staring at the ceiling, unable to stop thinking about the events of the last two days. Especially in the embarrassing way she ended up drunkenly throwing up in the bathroom of her apartment…for the second time in her life.

She couldn't help but think of that occasion years ago. The first time she got drunk and the first time she kissed Sheldon.

The day after her drunkenness she had talked to Sheldon. It was true when she told him that she didn't remember but after he told her what happened, she remembered every detail.

She remembered how she had kissed him. How he had said that he found the kiss fascinating and… the way he looked at her as she undressed.

She never told him, but she knew it wasn't true that he had placed a towel on her head and from there he left the apartment.

Like Dave, Sheldon had also woken her up and taken her to her room, but unlike Dave, Sheldon had stayed with her inside her room to make sure she didn't trip when Amy had insisted on changing.

Seeing that she began to undress, Sheldon's cheeks had turned red and he had immediately turned around. Although he had watched her sideways a couple of times.

She hadn't thought about that night in a long time and she never gave much thought to Sheldon's attitude that day. But after what Dave told her… was Sheldon interested in her? Or at least curious?

No. She was the one who knew Sheldon, not Dave. And she was sure that Sheldon had never been interested in her.

Tired. She decided to try to sleep but she heard the sound of her cell phone receiving several messages. She imagined that it was Bernadette or Penny.

She sighed before reaching over to take the phone from night side table. She wasn't surprised to see that it was indeed Bernadette who kept sending her messages.

"How did it go? I need to know all the details. "

"He stayed to sleep with you and that's why you don't answer me? "

"I can imagine you must be having a good time if you still haven't read my messages. " said some of the messages.

Just then another message came "Ames, please reply. If you don't answer in ten minutes, I'll have to go to your apartment or I'll call the police."

"I'm fine," Amy replied.

"Oh, you're alive. Perfect. Tell me everything that happened last night."

Amy looked at the message for a few minutes not knowing what to reply. Should she tell her friend the truth about how pathetic she was? After much thought she realized that one way or another Sheldon would find out what happened. She knew it wasn't right and she wasn't sure he even cared, but just for a moment she wanted Sheldon to feel some of the pain she felt when he decided he'd rather just be friends with her.

"I'd love to. But I promised my amazing boyfriend that I wouldn't say anything about what happened between us last night...and today."

Oh Amy, what did you just do?

And… I know I changed part of the scene from the time Amy gets drunk and kisses Sheldon, but I really like to think that Sheldon took her to her room and helped her change…you know just to keep her from tripping and fall.
