She was lucky, she didn't have to stitch the hole in her skin, only glue it. So she taped the wound neatly, banished her upper arm and then took half a tablet of Tilidine, for the pain. She got up from her low stool and threw the wrappings, of the sterile items, into the trash before grabbing a glass and filling it with water.
The tablet, despite being cut in half, was messy to swallow and elicited a few coughs from the girl before she dumped the rest of the water away. On an old-fashioned egg timer, she set a timer for 15 minutes, at which point the tilidine kicked in and she had to stop working.
Still wanting to use the time as wisely as possible, Serephina rinsed the glass, dried it, and stowed it away again before sitting down at the table against the wall to the right. First she tied up her brown hair and then put on the white, uncomfortable latex gloves. Tensely, she opened the small centrifuge at the table and took the eight samples.
Six of the eight samples belonged to Nick's newest initiative, the Avengers, the other two belonged to the woman herself and a so-called test sample that included the expected results in typical humans. She had attached her own sample more out of her own interest, Nick actually forbade the agents from experimenting on themselves, but where there's no plaintiff, there's no judge.
She brought the small containers with the numbers one to six to the humming refrigerator, so that she could work with it later. Her sample and the test sample she prepared for further processing so that the carrier's program could display them later. Serephina was about to start the program when her egg timer rang. "Then we'll continue tomorrow," she sighed softly and then took the last two samples and brought them to the cooler.
She closed the door of the cooler again and then threw away the contaminated gloves while the clock still chimed happily. Only when everything was thrown away did she killed the sound of the clock. In fact, the pain slowly subsided and the girl could finally breathe a sigh of relief. She loved her work, but being injured or in pain was not really a dream for her after all.
She went back, to the head of the room and opened a lonely metal door there. She was lucky that her quarters were right next to her lab, and she even had a small bathroom to call her own. She was secretly sure that Nick and Maria had done their part to make this room possible for her. Neither of them would ever admit it, it wasn't in their nature.
She undid her tight ponytail again and then swapped her bloodied top for a clean black shirt, the left side of her chest emblazoned with the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo in a pretty gray. Most of her clothing was in gray and black, another rule from above that governed her life. When the broken top was disposed of and she closed the small closet, with four compartments, again, she decided to take a trip to the bridge, she was not allowed to work anyway.
Thus, the girl again turned off everything in her lab and quarters, including the lights and appliances, only the refrigerator would hum again. She left the quarters and locked them again with her code before heading out.
The bridge was at the other end of the carrier, so the brown haired woman now had some distance to walk and thus some time to think.
