Luisa's First Steps

"Julieta, Amor, I have a surprise for youuuu" Agustine half-sang as he entered the kitchen, carrying the 13-month-old Luisa.

"What is it?" Julieta asked, still forming arepas.

"Well, you're gonna have to look at it" Agustine insisted as he set Luisa on the ground.

"Alright." Julieta wiped her hands on her apron and turned around. "What is it?"

"Watch this." Agustine kneeled and reached his arms out to Luisa. "Just as we practiced Luisa. Come here. Come to Papa"

Luisa teetered a bit; then, one foot in front of the other, started making her way to her dad.

Julieta covered her mouth with her hands.

"She's walking! Look Julieta! She's walking!" cried Agustine.

"I see it Amor! I see it" was Julieta's enthusiastic reply.

Luisa laughed and stumbled into her father's outstretched arms. "Ay Luisa! You did it! You were walking!"

"Pa-pa" Luisa giggled as she reached for his face.

"yep, that's me. I'm your super papa!" He lifted her up "and that means you're my super baby!" He tossed Luisa an inch into the air, catching her.

"Agustine, don't drop her."

"I won't." He did another little toss

"Just give her here." Julieta took Luisa and continued "I want some time with my baby too." As she tickled the child.

"Mami" Luisa giggled, grabbing at her mother's hair.

"Ay! Not the hair!" Julieta exclaimed, trying to pull it away before Luisa put it in her mouth.

Agustine chuckled a bit and pulled his wife's hair into a bun.

Julieta felt it with her hand. "Hey, that's not too bad. Have you been practicing?" She gave Agustine a playful nudge.

"To be fair, it's been almost three months since I made a knot out of your hair"

"And a month more since you got your hand stuck in it." Julieta laughed.

"Now, now, that was one time." He replied, also laughing.

"Well, I'm happy to be stuck with you." She leaned into her husband before promptly handing the baby. "But I got some cooking to do. Get out with your super baby" She nudged him teasingly.

"Alright, alright. I'll leave you to your magic" Agustine gave Julieta a kiss and then left with Luisa.
