In her time off, Kate has gone to visit Clint to partake in Barton family time and have dinner. She gazes down at her phone every so often, only to re-emerge with disappointment on her face. This doesn't go unnoticed by the family. Lila snatches a piece of garlic bread directly from the distracted archer's hand. The other siblings laugh as Kate's food disappears into their sister's mouth.
"Lila!" Laura exclaims.
"Well, she wasn't eating it," Nate says, in defense of his sister.
Clint chimes in, "He's got a point."
"Geez, thanks partner," Kate says, "I'm just distracted because I haven't heard from Yelena, and because someone told me to give her some space." She glares at Clint, "I haven't text her either."
"I'm sure she's fine," Clint says, "and I told you to give her space so she could have time to consider a transition to another line of work."
"Kids help me clean the table and you guys can have extra cake," Laura says. The kids jolt up from the table with their plates. Laura grabs Clint's plate and gestures toward the sunroom before leading the kids into the kitchen. Clint stands from the table and leads Kate to the room. Once the door shuts, Clint extends an invitation to play a game of darts. Kate accepts grabbing the darts offered to her.
"I know I asked you to look after her, but I didn't intend for you to live with her," Clint says.
"I know... but she was so persuasive," Kate says.
"Really, how exactly did she convince you?" Clint asks.
"Uh... she asked," Kate answers. Clint curls his eyebrows at the naive young archer. "Well she did, twice in fact," she tells him.
"You know its a bit deeper than that, right?" he asks.
"I know I may seem dense at times, but yes, I'm well aware of my feelings," she says. She tosses a dart and hits the center of the board.
"Just be careful kid. She's still in the life. I worry about you possibly compromising your values," her mentor says.
"I think about that all the time, but I won't leave her," Kate says, a dour frown on her face.
"I would never ask you too, especially with Nat gone. You're the only positive influence Yelena has in her life right now," Clint says.
"Wow, no pressure," she responds.
"Look, I want you to be there for her as much as you can, but not at the expense of losing yourself," he says.
