Yelena maintains a serious expression as she walks down the dingy corridor, pass the guards, and into the visitors area. She strolls pass the fellow visitors and heads straight to the corner of the room. Eleanor Bishop is sitting at the last table, patiently waiting for her arrival. They exchange a passive greeting, then Yelena takes a seat.
"Why have you asked me here?" she asks.
"I haven't gotten any updates about Kate," Eleanor says, "also, you've stopped accepting my payments."
Yelena leans in, "I never wanted your money, and the only reason I bother to come to see you is for your daughter," she says.
"How's that?" Eleanor asks.
"I want to make sure you don't plan to cause her any harm," Yelena says.
Eleanor slams her hand against the table, "How dare you!" she shouts, "I love my daughter. You've known her for a year, I've known her all her life. You think because you two share a bed together that makes you the expert on what my daughter needs."
"Be careful of what you say next," Yelena says.
"Spare me... you won't take my money, but you had no problem taking my advice for Kate's birthday," Eleanor replies. "How'd she like the arcade?" she asks, scornfully.
"You're right, I shouldn't be here at all," Yelena says. She stands up from the table and starts toward the exit.
"Wait!" Eleanor shouts, "I'm sorry, please just sit down."
Yelena obliges the desperate mother. "Do not diminish what Kate and I have again, or you can try seeing if she'll finally take your calls," she says.
"I just don't get it," Eleanor says, leaning back into her seat. "Why is she so willing to share her life with you, a known killer? No offense, but she won't forgive her own mother."
"Who said she won't forgive you?" Yelena asks.
"My daughter has her own heroic moral code," Eleanor says, "and worse of all she doesn't do grey areas very well."
"You give her too little credit," Yelena says. "If she can fall in love with, as you say, a killer, then maybe she can do grey."
A shocked expression comes over Eleanor," Kate's in love with you?" she asks.
"She thinks she is," Yelena answers.
"And do you love her?"
"I would die for her," Yelena says.
"I won't dare be naive enough to tell a young person who to love, but be aware that you two have very different backgrounds," Eleanor says. "Kate's father and I had two very different upbringing's, and it caused a lot more conflict then either of us thought it could."
"But you had Kate..."
"The best thing I've ever done," Eleanor says.
"You believe that Kate won't forgive you, but have you ever asked for forgiveness?" Yelena asks.
"And what if she couldn't forgive me?" Eleanor asks, "where would that leave me?"
