Sam pov

Two weeks ago, a new family moved into the house across from us. My dad told me they had a son my age who was going to the same school as me. I didn't really think much about it, but then I saw him carrying boxes into his house.

He was tall, lean, and had a thin layer of muscle. He had dark wavy hair and olive skin with tiny freckles covering most of his face if you looked closely. The thing that stood out were the scars on his face. Three slashes ran from the bottom of his left eye, across his nose, and ended at his right cheek. Most people would be put off, but I thought they looked pretty cool. Made him look tough. Stop it Sam, you sound like a fan girl.

His dad got a job offer to work for my dad at LaRusso auto. However, the only thing I thought about was that their son was cute. Very cute.

Apparently, my dad helped them get a membership to Encino Oaks Country Club so maybe I'd run into him before the end of the summer and have a chance to introduce myself. Of course, I could just go across the street, but I was nervous. What if he thought I was just some nosy neighbor or weird? What if he felt intimidated by me because my dad is his dad's boss?

Guess I'll have to wait and see.

I'm snapped out of my thoughts when my phone rings. It's a call from Yasmine. I grin and click to answer the phone.

"Hey Yas, what's up?" I say.

"Sam, get your ass out here. We're meeting Kyler and them at the beach club," Yasmine remarks excitedly.

"Okay great," I say and hang up before changing into my swimsuit and going outside to meet my friends.

My phone dings again and I see a text message from Aisha. I frown slightly. It's not like I don't want to be friends with her, it's just that I want to be popular. Talking science and nerdy stuff won't cut it at our school, or any for that matter. It's worse that Yasmine is a complete bitch to Aisha, but I'm too afraid that they'll cut me out if I stand up for her. I guess that's just how it has to be.

The car ride is fun as Moon, Yasmine, and I listen and obnoxiously sing along to Taylor Swift

Authors note: I have no clue what their into. I just went with typical music that high school chicks listen to.

We finally get there and meet up with Kyler and them.

"What up Sam? You lookin beautiful," Kyler says and pulls me into a side hug.

I blush slightly. Kyler and I have been flirting for the better part of the summer, but ever since that new kid moved, my thoughts have drifted to him. We spend time chatting and Brucks starts being obnoxious which makes Moon and Yas laugh, but I just roll my eyes and fake smile.

I really couldn't stand Brucks, he never shuts his mouth and is a very dirty drunk. He broke Moon's mom's favorite vase the last time we drank at her house. At least Kyler and his other friends were fun.

Yasmine, Moon, and I sit by the pool while the guys throw the football in the water.

"So Sam, what would you say if Kyler asked you out?" Yasmine asks with a teasing smirk.

"I.." I start and glance at Kyler laughing with his friends.

My thoughts drift to the new kid living across the street.

"I'm not sure. Gonna have to think about that," I say shrugging.

Yasmine must take offense or something.

"You'd seriously say no to Kyler? What's wrong with you?!" Yasmine remarks.

"Yeah Sam. Why would you reject him?" Moon asks in a nicer tone than Yasmine.

I'm staring off into space when I see Kyler hurl the ball straight toward the poolside chairs. At first I'm a little shocked because I'm not sure who's about to get drilled in the head, but I hear a loud slap sound as a boy catches the ball with no problem.

I lower my sunglasses and squint a little bit to see none other than my new neighbor. He's wearing sunglasses also and red and blue stripped swim trunks. He's shirtless and I see slight bruising on his ribs, but I his sun kissed abdomen looks defined. I blush a little bit and smile slightly. I was impressed he managed to catch a ball flying that fast.

He tosses it up and down in his hands before tossing it much more softly back to Kyler and sitting back down on his chair. Kyler and his crew begin hassling him before they just go back to what they were doing. I sigh. Could they give the new kid a break?

I talk to my friends for a little longer before Yasmine gets up to grab a bite to eat. I glance in her direction and see none other than the same boy scooping some food onto his plate. I see Yasmine heading straight for him. Was she about to flirt with him? No way, I wasn't gonna let her win this one.

What would my dad say?

"Sam, sometimes it's better to take risks then to spend the rest of your life asking what if, but be careful how far you go bec-" Sam pictured her dads words before her own brain decided she'd heard enough.

Then Sam got up and sped walked over just in time to see Yasmine and her neighbor bump into each other. The boy spills his water on Yasmine who completely overreacts. I scoff at her overly dramatic reaction.

"Yasmine, it was just an accident," I argue walking up to the pair.

She storms off, but not after giving the new kid a dirty look. I don't really know what to say now that it's just the two of us. I smile at him and he smiles back, but looks rather nervous.

"I've never seen you around before? You new?" I lie, but try to sound like ive never actually seen him.

"Uh, y-yeah. My family and I just moved here actually. I'm Blake, Blake Murphy," he stutters at first, but slowly grows more confident.

His deep voice was very attractive. His slight nervousness was cute also. This makes me a little more comfortable.

"Samantha, but all my friends call me Sam," I answer as confidently as I can fake and stick out my hand.

Stop it heart. Stop beating like a jackhammer.

"Well everyone calls me… Blake. Just Blake," he responds trying to sound snarky, but failing miserably, which is pretty funny.

I laugh slightly. He was funny.

"Well, just Blake, when did you move here?" I ask, but I completely knew the answer.

"Bout two weeks ago. We moved into the house on Escalon Drive," he answers shrugging.

"No way. Your family moved into the house across the street from mine," I say a bit too excitedly, but he doesn't seem to notice.

Thank God boys were clueless.

"Wow cool," he says.

I was hoping he'd sound at least a little more excited. Nice going Sam. Before I decide to give up, I try one last approach.

"Well, my friends and I are going down to the beach if you wanna join us," I say motioning toward the beach.

His dark eyes light up.

"Sure. I'd love to," he remarks sounding excited.

I sense relief watch over me. I didn't scare him away, yet, at least.

I introduce him to the rest of my friends. Everyone seems to be fine with him except Yasmine, but I didn't care. Not one bit. However, what catches my attention is Moon. I see a smirk flash across her face and she moves some hair behind her ear.

We walk on the beach for a while and get to know Blake better. Moon does her best to talk to him, but I counter it like my dad taught me in karate and subtly nudge her away or talk over her. Poor clueless Blake doesn't sense a thing.

I can tell it's starting to annoy the boys a bit, so Kyler starts trying to talk to me, but I give him short answers and go back to getting to know Blake. We learn that he moved here from Austin, Texas, he played football his freshman year, but is quitting for some reason.

"You can't quit football bro. Our receivers suck donkey cock. Those wicked hands could be useful," Brucks remarks, but Blake just shrugs.

"I don't know man. I'm just not feeling it anymore," Blake responds.

"Pfft lame," Kyler answers.

"What do you play?" Blake asks.

"I'm a wrestler," Kyler answers puffing his chest out.

Blake bites his lip slightly. Looks like he's trying not to laugh. I beg to whatever God is out there that Kyler won't notice or problems will ensue.

Thankfully, Kyler turns around as Blake just answers with a simple "cool."

Blake's brother yells at him on the phone to come back. He says goodbye and turns to leave. I glance over at Moon who seems like she's about to say something, but I beat her to it.

"Wait!" I call out and jog up to him.

He turns around with his eye brows raised in curiosity. I gently take his phone out of his hand which is still on and scroll to the contacts app. I immediately put in my number. I look up with a grin to see him looming surprised, but he smiles.

Then the others with the exception of Yasmine take their turns. Moon is a little bummed which I feel bad about, but decide to dismiss. Couldn't let my sympathy stop me from shooting my shot.

After Blake leaves, the boys talk about how they think he's kinda weird and awkward, but Moon defends him as to I. Of course he's a little awkward. He's never met us before.

"Reminds me of that freak lip," Kyler remarks then starts to laugh.

"If I could get him to come out for the team, he'd be a pretty solid player," Brucks remarks.

The conversation continues until we part ways with the guys and go to get in Yasmine's car. However, Moon pulls me aside.

"You like him, don't you?" Moon says teasingly.

My cheeks burn bright red.

"W-what?! No! Of course not. I barely know him!" I stammer.

Moon giggles.

"Sam, I can see it from two miles away," Moon says.

"What? Afraid he'll like me better than you?" I taunt playfully, but immediately freeze at my realization as Moon's eyes go wide.

However, instead of challenging me, she bursts out laughing.

"Whats so funny?!" I demand irritated.

"I mean, yeah, he's cute, but if you're into him, then I'll back off. Besides, two neighbors dating would be sooo cute. The boy across the street," Moon teases.

"Stop it," I mutter and fold my arms.

"Sam, I'm only joking. Stop taking everything so seriously," she reassures me.

Yasmine honks the horn so we decide to get in.

Authors note: ok so that's the first chapter. I'm a guy so I don't exactly know what goes through a girl's mind so I hope I didn't offend anyone or make Sam appear as some stereotype. I did my best and Blake's pov will come around chapter 3 or 4. This story will mostly revolve around Blake and Daniel/Sam along with Blake and Johnny/Miguel

Also, I'm writing these what if's along with my actual cannon stories because it helps to keep my brain fresh and working to work on multiple projects versus just one. I notice that if I only stick with one project then I can get burned out so. Updates on this story and cannon will not be in any specific order. Really depends on what I feel like doing. I hope you enjoy this different version of "A New Cobra Comes to Town" where Blake attempts to balance himself through Sam along with his friends and senseis.

More what if's will come in the future as I get further into cannon. The what if I'm most excited for has something to do with someone "losing their memory," but I won't go into any detail because of spoilers for cannon. Happy reading and have a great day.
