When worlds collide chapter 4

When morning stole under the blinds with small shafts of light, Connor awoke to see Dawn gazing into his eyes with a smile.

"Hello gorgeous," said Connor.

"You know, I love you so much," Dawn replied. She was misty-eyed and Connor felt her emotion almost as if it emanated from her like a wave. Connor felt the same way as if his heart was full.

"I love you too," Connor drew her into a kiss. They stayed kissing gently without doing anything more than just enjoying the intimacy of being with each other.

At length, he pulled away and smiled at Dawn's muffled protest, "Should I make breakfast while you are having your shower?"

"You spoil me hubby," answered Dawn with a grin.

He slid out of his bed and watched Dawn going to the ensuite bathroom. He put on an old t-shirt and boxers and went to the kitchen downstairs to check the fridge. Thankfully it looked like Nina had done her weekly groceries. Dear old dad could live on blood but they can't.

By the time Dawn, in a denim skirt and a black tank top, arrived downstairs, the tantalizing smell of scrambled eggs, bacon and coffee assailed her nostrils. He slid a cup of coffee over to Dawn and sat down next to her with his own selection of food.

Dawn picked up her fork and began to eat. The eggs tasted delicious being light and fluffy with the right amount of milk. It was just the way she liked them with ketchup.

Angel had walked into the kitchen with a smile for his daughter in law, "I thought that it was you making breakfast, son."

"Well do you want some coffee and eggs, dad?" asked Connor. Dawn waved hello from her spot.

"I can't enjoy the eggs the way you can but they do smell good," replied Angel a little sadly. He went to the fridge and pulled out a bag of pig's blood before turning away to drink it, embarrassed to drink blood in front of his son and daughter in law.

"Hey it doesn't matter if you drink blood in front of us Dad," chided Connor before Angel began to drink. Angel smiled before he sat down at the table and drank his blood straight out of the bag.

"Is Cordelia, alternate Faith, Wesley and Nina up yet?" asked Dawn.

"Cordelia is still sleeping and it looks like Faith is still out. I am not sure about Wes but he will be down when he is hungry. Nina is currently in the shower," replied Angel.

He remembered a young Dawn always being curious and asking questions when she found out that he was a vampire and then Angelus grabbed her by the throat when he had lost his soul. He tried to push the memories of being Angelus out of his mind. He had one Angelus to deal with and that was one too many.

Finally, Nina had arrived in a t-shirt and jeans. She smiled genuinely at her boyfriend's son before helping herself to breakfast at his nod.

On the highway from Cleveland about 9:30 am

"Are we there yet?" whined one of the Slayers on the bus. The rest of the other Slayers who were able to come were gossiping or sleeping on the seats of the yellow buses, apart from Satsu who was sleeping on Willow's shoulder. Giles looked like he was out of it and snores could be heard from his seat.

"No! That's the tenth time you asked me that!" snapped an impatient Robin.

"Oh, why do we have to go to Los Angeles to help the boss's undead ex. How is the First back anyway? We scrunched that thing in Sunnydale when it existed, Spike must have screwed this up with that ugly necklace," complained Rona.

"Rona!" snapped Buffy looking irritated at her young subordinate, "It was actually Spike who closed the Hellmouth with the amulet, which destroyed the Turok Han."

"There she goes defending that vampire again," murmured Rona softly.

"Will Spike come? We kinda need his muscle," asked Willow, pausing from her flask of coffee that she kept in her bag for emergencies. All she needed was to create water with her magic and hey presto she had caffeine.

"He'll come, Will. He had to book a late flight to Los Angeles on United Airlines," reassured Buffy.

"Oh, what fun," said Xander sarcastically, "I am so looking forward to spending time with Deadboy Senior, his son and Captain Peroxide."

Robin offered him a commiserating nod from the driver's seat while Buffy glared.

"Dawn will be there so it can't be all that bad," pointed out Willow.

Xander offered a smile, he always liked the littlest Summers, who was like a little sister to him. He had been terribly concerned when she fell for Deadboy's son after the nonsense that he put Buffy and the rest of them through, both with a soul and as Angelus... Although it has to be said that Angel was slightly better than Spike, in his opinion, but not by much. Both of them had slaughtered half of Europe and yet Buffy was crazy for them at different times.

At the back of the bus there was an impressive array of weapons including: crossbows, stakes, swords, and axes. Buffy hoped that she could stick her axe into a Bringer as it would make her feel better. At least Andrew was on business in London or he would be talking their ear off about Golf Ku or was it Go Ku from that Japanese Cartoon or something. Nobody, not even Giles had found the off switch for Andrew.

"Thanks for letting us use the buses Robin," praised Buffy.

"Oh, what's the use of school property when it comes to saving the world again. From the First and now a parallel version of Angelus," replied Robin with a genuine smile.

"Wow you're cooler than our ex-principal Snyder could ever be," said Xander pleased.

"I told ya he was cool Harris," said Faith with a smirk, "Plenty of stamina too right babe?"

Both Willow and Buffy rolled their eyes while some of the junior Slayers who knew Robin giggled. Robin smirked before he put his arm around Faith in the passenger's seat.

At that the bus window was soon raked with automatic fire shattering it completely. Several Slayers screamed in shock before rolling out of the way and grabbing weapons to defend themselves. It was the first time that they were the victims of someone actually shooting at them when nearly all vampires preferred their fists and teeth.

Faith looked out of the window and saw a red sports car chasing them with a black clad man in a balaclava, leaning out of the window with a submachine gun aiming it directly at the bus.

"Yo B, we have company!" yelled Faith.

"The forces of evil are using guns now! Does no one have any standards anymore?" complained Giles, having been woken up by the gunshots.

"Giles, Xander help the girls to defend the bus, Willow cast your strongest possible shields or anything to get us out of here," ordered Buffy in a tone that brooked no nonsense. It was the voice of the Alpha Slayer, the leader, "Faith, Satsu and Rona! Follow me."

The three veteran Slayers followed their leader by moving quickly to the ladder leading to the roof of the bus.

"Be careful," said a worried Willow.

"Don't worry babe! This was what I was made for," replied Satsu.

"I got your back B," said Faith.

"What Satsu said," said Rona.

Willow looked furious. it wasn't the first time she had lost someone she loved because of guns being pointed at her and her friends. She threw a spell to slow the red sports car down but it had swerved out of her light of vision so it narrowly missed her target.

This wasn't good; it looked like the people inside were briefed on her magical power and knew what to do.

In the meantime, Robin was taking evasive manoeuvres and noticed in the mirror that the sports car had a friend, a black Humvee. He wondered if there were human mercenaries inside chasing him. He almost preferred a demon or even a vampire like Spike over these scumbags. At least they had an excuse for their evil. The people in the Humvee were firing at the bus raking it with more bullets.

The junior Slayers screamed in anger and were firing back with crossbows

"How did they find us?" asked Willow worriedly.

"We could be dealing with Wolfram and Hart under their new management, they would deploy mercenaries," advised Giles looking up from loading his crossbow, "they would have the resources to track us."

"Never mind how they found us! We need to lose them," yelled Xander, worried over his best friend's fate. Buffy could get shot again. These mercenaries weren't mucking about. Losing a friend like Tara to a gunshot from a deranged human was bad enough.

"What do you think that I am doing Xander?" snarled Robin.

"Hey! Guys stop arguing! You're interrupting my concentration, I need to conjure up the shield that Buffy wanted," growled Willow before she started chanting to Hecate.

Silver Lakes, Los Angeles at 3pm

At the same time in Los Angeles as Buffy and her friends were being attacked by human mercs, a pregnant brunette woman had stepped out of a portal followed by her guardian, a huge silver looking metallic demon in the posh suburban area of Silverlake.

"Well boss, where the hell are we?" asked the demon looking around. It didn't look like the Los Angeles he had left behind. People were too happy in contrast to the nightmare world they had left behind, with the First's Bringers hunting them down. Nobody was paying them any attention as they were going about their day talking on their phones in smart suits.

"We are in Los Angeles but in another dimension, Skip. It's ironic that the Senior Partners had offered us a way out after what my Beast did to cleanse it's branch," replied the pregnant woman dressed in a black gown, who looked physically like Cordelia Chase, but she had a superior grin on her face.

"You don't say! This is like the second Back to the Future film and we are Marty McFly if I wasn't a demon and you a rogue power inside the body of the vampire's groupie," answered Skip sarcastically.

"With the Miracle Child unfortunately undead and now Angelus's attack dog, we still need to find a willing sacrifice to save this world by my love, humans keep using their free will in terrible ways. How they hurt each other without reason. Shameful. But we can change that," replied Jasmine.

"How do you suggest that we find a sacrifice? You're pregnant and I am a demon, there's no sane virgin that is going to trust me to lead them away from their friends," questioned Skip.

"I'll think of something Skip, so don't you worry about that. Eventually, you will be sitting at my right hand where that deadbeat father of mine should be if not for his regrettable hot-headed mistake," said Jasmine smiling coldly, which was odd on the face of Cordelia Chase, who was known for her kindness and warmth if anyone was there who truly knew her, "At least I still have my mother's body, so I am still in the game."

"Hallelujah boss as the pathetic humans say," praised Skip with an icy smirk. He was looking forward to sharing in the wealth that his current client had promised. It was the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow as the Irish would say.
