AN: Hello, my readers! How are you liking the story so far? I want to let you know that, as the title says, something is going to happen. What is it? Sorry, but no spoilers until the end of the chapter when I'll comment on it. Until then... Enjoy the chapter!
It had been a couple of days since the students had their first mission as official members of Fairy Tail. Since then, they had been going with the Natsu team on various missions with the intention of learning more and more about the system of that world or how to act in various situations.
For the students, it was like practicing with teachers their own age. But there had to be a time when they had to do it on their own.
The students were entering the guild at that moment because they decided to spend a moment doing personal shopping and exploring the city. Team Natsu had no problem leaving them alone, as they knew the way to the guild or their homes very well.
But when they entered the guild, they noticed that someone was missing.
"Oh, hi, guys." said Mirajane as she approached the students.
"Mirajane, do you know where Natsu and the others are?" asked Izuku.
"They left for a very difficult mission a moment ago. They won't be back until later." said Mirajane.
"Wow. So what do we do, guys?" asked Ochaco.
"Why don't we go on a mission?" suggested Katsuki.
"But Natsu and the others aren't here." said Tenya.
"I'm sick of always going with them! It's about time we do things by ourselves!" said Katsuki.
"I agree with Katsuki. We've been going on missions with Natsu and the others for two days now. We already know enough about this world, so we should be able to go on a mission by ourselves." said Shoto.
"That's not a bad idea." said Izuku.
"I think so too, but I think you should get the maestro's permission first and that will depend on what kind of mission you choose." said Mirajane.
With a nod from the students, the five of them went to the mission panel in search of one they could do alone.
"Mmm. What if we helped find a lost ring?" asked Izuku.
"Maybe we could take down another group of bandits?" suggested Ochaco.
"I've had enough of boring missions. Let's do this one!" said Katsuki grabbing a piece of paper from the panel.
They all walked over to read the mission information.
"Finish monster from a cave. Reward: 15000 jewels." said Izuku reading the mission information.
"We can't do that mission! It's too dangerous!" said Tenya.
"Don't do it if you don't want to, but I plan to do it even if it's just me. Besides, it's not in higher rank, so it won't be that dangerous that monster." said Katsuki.
"That's true. If it was really dangerous they would have listed it as S-ranked mission or higher." said Izuku remembering what they were told about the ranking of missions.
"I'm going." said Shoto.
"Me too." said Ochaco.
Seeing that almost all of his friends were signing up for a mission that would entail facing a monster, he had no choice but to give in.
"Okay. But I'll go with you to make sure you're safe! Understood?" asked Tenya.
With a joint nod, the students went to the bar where the guild master was standing drinking beer.
"Master." said Izuku catching his attention.
It took them a while to call the person who helped them from the beginning their master, but they had to do it as a sign of respect, since he was the guild master.
"Ah. I see you're here already. Can I help you with anything?" asked Makarov.
"Yes, we wanted to know if we could perform this mission." said Izuku handing the mission paper to the master, who was glancing at it for a while.
"Do you plan to perform it by yourselves?" asked Makarov.
"Yes. We have been here for a long time already and I think we are ready to perform a mission on our own." said Izuku with determination.
Makarov was quiet for a moment as he thought about the situation.
"Very well. You may go." said Makarov to the joy of the students. "However, that doesn't mean I don't worry about you on your first solo mission. So you'll be going with a couple of other people."
"Aren't you putting babysitters?!" asked Katsuki pissed off at what the master was suggesting.
"Call it whatever you want. They'll just accompany you and observe and in case things get complicated, they'll act." said Makarov.
"I understand. It's like a supervisor who analyzes how we act without him doing anything, right?" asked Tenya understanding the master's idea.
"Exactly." said Makarov.
"And who will go with us?" asked Shoto.
"Mmm." said Makarov as he thought of someone while looking around and that's when he saw the right trio for the situation. "Gajeel, Levy, Lily. You will be going with them on their mission as observers."
The students turned in the same direction to see that he was talking to the man with nose piercings, the blue-haired girl in an orange suit, and a cat like Happy and Charle, only he had round ears, black fur, and a scar over his left eye.
"Huh? Why the hell do I have to babysit those brats?" asked the pierced man who must have been Gajeel.
"Gajeel. Don't say that. If the master asked us to do it, we have to do it." said the blue-haired girl who must have been Levy.
"That's right. besides, it will be a chance to see how the guys have adapted to our world." said the black cat who must have been Lily.
"Hmm. Okay, but I hope you don't come begging me for help." said Gajeel.
"Like I need your help, screw face." said Katsuki.
The next instant, they both bumped their foreheads together as they glared at each other with white eyes and a black and red aura surrounded each of them.
"You think you're my strong, ash brat?" asked Gajeel.
"Sure I do. I could even kick your ass." said Katsuki.
"Go ahead, I'll beat the shit out of you." said Gajeel.
"That's enough you two! You'll have to work together if you want to complete the mission!" said Makarov, getting the two of them to separate and cease the argument.
"I hope it won't be a bother to you." said Levy.
"Not at all. The more the merrier." said Ochaco.
"Besides, we can use this to find out where we can improve." said Tenya.
"Well said." said Lily.
"Well then, if you all agree, you can go." said Makarov.
The five students and the three mages went to the train station to catch the transport that would take them to the mission site.
On the ride, the students sat on one side and the three mages on the other, generating a small awkward silence.
"So, how do you like our world?" asked Levy.
"It's pretty good. The guild people are very good to us even though we're strangers from another world. A little crazy, but they're very nice." said Izuku.
"And that taking missions to do is like a job, but it's a lot of fun." said Ochaco.
"In my opinion, it's a good job. I wish our world didn't have so many rules." said Katsuki.
"We need those rules so that society doesn't go into chaos." said Tenya.
"I agree with Tenya, although Katsuki is right in a way." said Lily.
"Tsk. Yeah. Can't you help people unless you have a license that says you can do it? Sounds ridiculous to me." said Gajeel.
"They probably thought so because of the large number of people with Quirks." said Shoto.
"I guess you're right." said Levy.
"So what kind of magic do you have?" asked Izuku with some interest.
An amused, toothy grin formed on the pierced man's face.
"For starters, I'm a dragon slayer." said Gajeel surprising the students.
"Are you a dragon slayer?" asked Shoto.
"Yes." began Gajeel before turning his arm into a metal pole. "I am the iron dragon slayer."
"Are you, by any chance, from the first generation?" asked Tenya remembering they mentioned his name when they talked about it.
"That's right, I was raised and trained by the Metalicana dragon." said Gajeel.
"Wait a minute. If you're a dragon slayer, how come you're not sick from being in a vehicle?" asked Katsuki.
"Oh, please. Don't compare me to Salamander or the brat. I have more stamina than them." said Gajeel.
"It's also because of some special motion sickness pills." revealed Levy receiving a slight grunt from the iron dragon slayer. "Back on topic, I can use letter magic." said Levy.
"How so?" asked Izuku.
"Now you'll see. Solid Script: Iron!" shouted Levy as the word 'Iron' suddenly appeared and seemed to be made of literal iron. "That's how it works."
"Wow. That's awesome." said Ochaco.
"Thank you." said Levy.
"Yes and thanks for the food." said Gajeel as he chowed down on the iron word.
Needless to say, the students were shocked to see him eating iron like it was bread.
"Y-You're eating the iron! How is that possible?" asked Tenya.
"Slayer magic users have the ability to devour the element they use. In Gajeel's case, he can devour iron; Natsu, fire; and Wendy, air." explained Lily.
"Would that mean that attacks from those elements don't affect them?" asked Shoto.
"I guess that would depend on the type of attack." said Lily.
A few hours later, their train ride was over and the whole group started walking towards the monster's lair. Thanks to the information on the application paper, they knew where it was located.
After a while of walking, they arrived at the cave, but when they entered inside, there was nothing.
"Are you sure this is the monster's lair?" asked Ochaco.
"According to the information, we are in the right place." said Tenya.
"Do you know?" asked Shoto to the mages accompanying them.
"I'm sorry, but we're just observers." said Levy.
"If you want to complete the mission, you will have to do it alone." said Gajeel.
"Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to learn anything." said Lily.
"Hey, you damn monster! Come out of hiding already, you coward!" shouted Katsuki hoping to get the monster's attention, making the other students nervous.
"Kacchan! Why did you do?" asked Izuku.
"Shut up, Deku! Our mission is to finish him off, so it'll be faster if he ends up appearing!" said Katsuki.
Suddenly, loud footsteps were heard coming from deep inside the cave.
From the shadows, the monster they were looking for came out. It looked like a saber-toothed tiger, but it was twice as big as the common tiger.
The students were petrified at the appearance of the monster they were supposed to defeat.
"P-Pretty Cat?" asked Ochaco hoping it would be friendly even a little.
But the monster unleashed a mighty roar that shook the entire cave. He raised one of his paws with the intention of crushing them.
"Scatter!" said Izuku in time for them to move away from the paw's impact zone.
"I'll try to distract it! You finish it off!" said Tenya activating his Quirk, but suddenly, just as he took the first step, he ended up going at such a speed that it seemed almost like a blur, he passed the monster by and ended up crashing into the cave wall. "W-What happened? I wasn't supposed to be going so fast."
"Tenya!" shouted Izuku worried for his friend, but then, he noticed that the monster intended to claw at him with his huge claw.
Activating his Quirk, Izuku jumped upwards to dodge the attack, heading towards the monster's face. He drew back his arm with the intention of hitting it, but suddenly, his fist was covered in blue lightning.
As Izuku struck it, an explosion occurred, accompanied by lightning that flashed across the monster, making him roar in pain.
"What the hell just happened?" wondered Izuku as he landed on the ground.
"Hey, Deku, I'm not going to let you be the one having all the fun! Die!" shouted Katsuki stretching his arms out with the intention of launching a series of explosions at the monster, but suddenly a sort of black orb formed in his hands.
Before Katsuki could wonder what that was, the orb shot out towards the monster and at the moment of impact there was an explosion so big that it pushed the monster into a wall, causing an earthquake in the cave, along with a small collapse.
Shoto threw his right arm forward with the intention of stopping the collapse with a wave of ice, but, suddenly, a burst of blue fire shot out from his right side, much to the horror of the student. When the fire impacted with the collapsing wall, instead of exploding or burning, it froze.
"It...! It can't be...! It's impossible!" thought Shoto in horror as he looked at his right hand.
For years, he had always hated using his fire side, as his power reminded him of his father and all that he had done to him and his mother. His right side was supposed to create ice. WHY HAD HE SHOT FIRE?!
The monster stood up and let out a roar of rage. It was then that his gaze landed on the only student he hadn't attacked at the moment.
Ochaco was petrified when she saw that she was in the crosshairs of the monster that began to charge towards her.
"Stay away!" shouted Ochaco closing her eyes and stretching her arms forward.
Suddenly, that caused the beast to fall to the ground, unable to move or get up, as if a strange force was preventing it. When Ochaco opened her eyes and realized what was happening, she gasped in surprise, but that made the mysterious force disappear, allowing the monster to move again.
The monster charged towards her again. Ochaco, panicking, started to run, but stumbled and fell to the ground. When the monster was halfway across the path, someone stepped between the two.
"Deku?" asked Ochaco as she saw her friend standing in front of her protectively when the monster was only a couple of steps away from them.
"I won't let... you hurt her!" shouted Izuku as suddenly a huge blue lightning shot out of his mouth, hitting the monster directly until it sent it crashing into the back wall, the impact of which caused it to collapse on the monster, finishing it off.
As Izuku gasped for air, both he and Ochaco were in complete shock at what had just happened. Not only them, but the other students were also in shock at what had happened.
This was supposed to be a simple mission to take down a monster, but suddenly, things went awry, especially in relation to their powers. What was going on?
While the whole mess was going on, the trio of mages were standing off to the side contemplating the events. Needless to say, they were very confused about what had just happened.
"Th-That was...?" asked Levy in shock.
"Yes. It was like dragon roar, but it felt very different." said Gajeel.
"What about Shoto? He said he could throw ice from his right side, but he's thrown fire and instead of burning, he froze the target." said Lily.
"What happened to them?" asked Levy with concern for the students.
"I don't know, but I'm hoping the old man has answers." said Gajeel.
Hours had passed since that mission. During the return trip, no one said anything, not only because they were still shocked by what had happened, but because they knew they didn't have the answers. So they decided to wait to see the master to see if he had the answers.
Finally, they arrived at the mages guild.
"Hey, you are back!" exclaimed Lucy as she saw the students return. "Mirajane told us you went on a mission by yourselves, how did it go?"
Instead of answering, the students passed Team Natsu by, heading straight to where the teacher was.
"What happened?" asked Wendy to Levy.
"It's...a little hard to explain." said Levy.
"Is it that something happened to them?" asked Gray.
"That will depend on what the old man is going to tell them." said Gajeel.
That worried Team Natsu quite a bit. What had happened on that mission for the students to be that way? They got up and followed the students to where the master was.
Makarov was sitting on a stool quietly until he saw the students approaching.
"I see you have completed the mission, but what's with those faces?" asked Makarov.
At first, they said nothing, as they didn't know how to explain.
"Master, we have something to tell you." said Izuku.
From the tone in which he spoke, Makarov could tell it was a very serious matter.
"We'd better talk about it in my office." said Makarov.
"Can we go too, old man?" asked Natsu speaking for him and his friends.
"All right, but don't make a fuss." said Makarov.
Over the next few minutes, the students told Makarov how, during the fight against the monster, their powers had acted strangely. Team Natsu was surprised by this and hoped that whatever was happening to them, it was nothing bad.
Makarov was all the while listening carefully and analyzing in search of some answer, but it was what he felt that confirmed his suspicions.
"I think I know what is happening to you." said Makarov.
"What is it, master? Why are our Quirks acting weird?" asked Tenya.
"Because they are no longer Quirks." said Makarov, making the students very nervous.
"W-what do you mean?" said Izuku frightened by the thought of having lost the One For All, the Quirk that All Might entrusted to him.
"You said that your Quirks came from a strange energy within you. I believe that, due to the time you spent in this world, that energy was absorbing the ethernano from the air causing your powers to undergo a metamorphosis." said Makarov.
"Metamorphosis? What do you mean?" asked Shoto.
"Your Quirks have become magical power." said Makarov, making everyone gasp in shock.
Even Team Natsu was shocked at that revelation.
"B-But that can't be. That's impossible!" said Ochaco not quite believing what she heard.
"It's true. When I met you the first time, I felt an energy different from magic power, but now I can feel the magic power in you." said Makarov.
"Now that you say so, it is true. When we saw you this morning, we didn't feel magical power in you, but now we do." said Erza testing the master's words.
The students didn't know how to take that. They had had their Quirks since the age of four (in the case of four of them). They had trained with them, used to fight the League of Villains or practice exercises from U.A. Now they had just been told that they had transformed into a totally different power than they had before.
In Izuku's case, it was worse. For many years, he dreamed of being a hero, despite everyone telling him he couldn't be a hero without a Quirk. That was until All Might named him his successor and gave him his Quirk, the One For All, a Quirk that was passed down from generation to generation. The thought of having lost it overwhelmed him more than anything else.
"I know you're terrified about it, but you shouldn't think of it as a bad thing." said Makarov.
"How can you not?! Our Quirks have disappeared and replaced by a power we didn't even want! How can that be a good thing?!" asked Katsuki.
"Don't think they've disappeared." began Makarov managing to calm the students down a bit. "The ethernano merged with your Quirks. What he has done wasn't to eliminate them, but to evolve them."
"Evolve?" asked Izuku.
"Your Quirks were powerful, but now that they have evolved into magical power, they have become much more powerful than you might think." said Makarov.
That made the students begin to see him in a positive light as they recalled the events of the fight against the monster. When they tried to use their Quirks, something similar to what they intended happened, but in a different way.
Perhaps Makarov was right. They weren't to see it as a negative, but quite the opposite. With their evolved powers, they could become far more powerful than they could ever have imagined before.
Izuku didn't know how the One For All had 'evolved', but if it was true what the guild master said, then he hadn't lost it, which, reassured him quite a bit.
"If that's the case, what kind of magic have they obtained?" asked Gray.
"There's one way to find out." said Makarov before focusing his gaze on the students. "Hold out your hands." said Makarov before the students did so. "Good, now concentrate your magical power in your hands."
The students began to concentrate on channeling the magical power into their hands, even if it was just a drop. Suddenly, in the hands of each one, a circle filled with squiggles was displayed. In other words, magic seals.
Makarov examined them for a moment, though his eyes widened from shock at the sight of some of them.
Soon afterward the magic seals disappeared.
"I know what kind of magic you each possess." said Makarov.
"What are they?" asked Izuku.
"Tenya, you possess the magic of speed. A magic that allows you to go at speeds greater than you've ever been able to go before." said Makarov.
"Well, I was already used to my Quirk, the fact that my magic is very similar to it will make it easier to handle." commented Tenya.
"Ochaco, you possess gravity magic. A magic that allows you to manipulate the gravity around you." said Makarov.
"So, I won't need to touch anything to turn them light anymore?" asked Ochaco.
"No, and you can turn them as light as balloons or as heavy as a rock." said Makarov.
Ochaco was shocked to learn that now her power had greatly improved. Maybe she wouldn't even have stomach problems anymore if she used it too much.
"Shoto, you possess a very rare lost magic, the magic of icy fire." said Makarov.
"Icy fire? That's the first time I've heard of magic like that." said Gray.
"And what does that magic consist of?" asked Natsu.
"It's a fire that not only freezes, but also burns the target." explained Makarov.
"Isn't it amazing, Shoto? It's like your two sides have combined into one." said Lucy only to see Shoto with a very serious and angry expression, something that worried her.
She knew he didn't use his fire side because of personal issues with his father and now that his power is shooting fire from both sides, how will he be doing?
"Katsuki, you also possess a very rare lost magic. It is explosion magic. A magic that allows you to create explosive bombs." Makarov said.
A sinister and savage smile formed on his face.
"Well, well, well. I think I'm going to like my new power." said Katsuki looking at his right hand.
Needless to say, all the young men present in the room shuddered at that information, especially Izuku.
Katsuki was wild with the power to generate explosions in his hands, but now that he had the power to generate explosive orbs, who knows what he will do during a fight with such power, especially no matter if the opponent is friend or foe.
"As for you, Izuku." began Makarov catching the green-haired boy's attention. "You possess one of the most powerful and rare lost magics I have ever seen in my life. One that hasn't been seen even in centuries."
That made the student a little nervous.
"W-what kind of magic?" asked Izuku.
"Lightning titan slayer magic." said Makarov.
Team Natsu let out a gasp in tandem at the revelation.
"T-titan slayer magic?" asked Wendy.
"If dragon slayer magic gives the user the power to slay a dragon, then that of a titan slayer gives the power to..." began Erza.
"To kill titans." said Gray.
"Huh? Titans? What's that?" asked Natsu, making everyone fall over like anime.
"How can you not know about titans?" asked Lucy.
"That's Natsu for you." said Happy.
"I will explain. Long ago, at the dawn of mankind, a race known as the titans ruled the world. Their power was so great that even the gods and dragons fell before them. To put an end to them, the gods and humans worked together to create a magic that could wipe them out with the help of the remains of the fallen titans. That is how titan slayer magic was born." Makarov said.
The students and the Natsu team were very intrigued and surprised by the story. They knew that the titans were powerful, but so much as to defeat gods and dragons, which were very powerful, was something that left them very surprised.
"Thanks to that magic, they were able to eliminate the titans until they were completely extinguished, but a few years later, those who possessed that magic, began to fight among themselves until there were none left. Few books talk about it or that magic for fear that someone would learn it and repeat those events again." said Makarov.
Izuku were in complete shock. His Quirk, the One For All had evolved thanks to the ethernano, but he had never imagined that it would become one of a magic capable of killing the most powerful beings in existence. He knew he would be very powerful if he could master the One For All completely, but now he kept wondering how powerful he would be if he could master that magic.
"So what do we do now? We don't quite know how to control our new powers." said Tenya.
"That's why don't worry. We'll find you someone who can help you manage your powers." said Makarov.
"I can ask Jet to teach Tenya, since he possesses the same magic as him." said Gray.
"I know someone who can teach Ochaco how to wield her gravity magic." said Erza.
"I can't kill titans, but I can help Izuku with his power." said Natsu.
"That's right. Even if they are different, they all have slayer-type magic." said Charle.
"We can even ask Gajeel to join." said Wendy.
"But who will help Katsuki and Shoto with their training?" asked Lucy.
"I don't need anyone's help. I can learn how to handle my power by myself." said Katsuki as he prepared to leave the office.
"I'll train alone too." said Shoto following his partner.
Several of those present were concerned that they would train on their own, especially Lucy regarding Shoto.
"Well, if it's your decision, we can't do anything." said Makarov before focusing on the remaining students. "Now, let's start the training."
AN: What do you think? You didn't expect it, did you? This idea has been in my head for a while now, thinking about what kind of magic to give to each of them. Do you think it fits with them or would you have liked them to have another kind of magic? In any case, comment and wait for the next chapter.
