Day 13- Kanera: Hair Brushing
Hera knocked on the door to Kanan's room. With a muffled "come in", she opened the door.
Kanan sat on the floor, legs folded beneath him.
"I'm not interrupting your meditation, am I?" Hera asked.
Kanan shook his head. "No, I had actually just finished. I was about to come out and see everyone. Was there something you needed?"
Hera shrugged. "Just to check in on you, see how you're doing. Just to see you."
"Huh," Kanan laughed. "That it?"
"Do I need more of a reason?" Hera said crossing her arms. "It's my ship anyway."
Kanan stood up. "I'm not here to doubt your authority, love. Never would." He opened his arms up. "Come here."
Hera rolled her eyes, but complied. She couldn't really object to getting a hug from him.
Pulling back slightly, Hera looked up into Kanan's eyes. She placed a hand on his cheek and he leaned into it. She smiled. She moved her other hand to his head and began to run her finger through his hair. Or, tried to at least.
"Kanan," Hera began. Kanan braced for a sort of scolding. "I get that it's probably hard for you to regularly wash your hair. But...Can't you at least brush it or something?"
"Well..." Kanan's mind was scrambling for excuses. "Maybe there isn't much time to brush it either."
"I may not know much about hair, but I don't think it would take you that long to at least give it one brush through before you pull it back." Hera broke the hug. "I know you have a brush somewhere," she muttered as she pushed passed him to rummage through the various drawers.
"Hera! Come on!" Kanan complained. "What do you know is about hair anyway?"
"Apparently more than you, hotshot." She pulled open another drawer and a tell-tale rattle gave away the brush's position.
"Aha!" She exclaimed.
Kanan groaned. "Really, Hera?"
"Yes, really," Hera said, somehow making the hairbrush look threatening as she held it. "I like being able to run my finger through your hair, so I'm going to make that happen."
"Fine," Kanan sighed. "Where do you want me?"
"Sitting on the bed will do fine," Hera said as she placed herself there.
Kanan obliged, sitting cross-legged in front of her. Hera took up a kneeling position and began her task.
She started by wrestling out the elastic holding his hair in the short ponytail. Placing that on her wrist, she started to smooth out any tangled at the ends of his hair.
It was fairly easy at first, little tangles that gave way easily to Hera's somewhat aggressive brushing. As she started to make her way higher up though, tangles became bigger, requiring a tad more aggression, mixed with some finesse.
Finesse was not something Hera exactly had when it came to hair brushing, having no hair herself. And despite that she was becoming better, the tugs at his scalp still hurt Kanan.
"Can you at least try to be a little gentler?" Kanan asked. "I'd like to keep my hair. Can't you use your fingers to work out some of the tangles?"
"I try to be gentle, but if I'm too gentle nothing will happen," Hera said. "And I might use my fingers, but your hair is looking a little gross and greasy, and I don't want to touch that too much. I have before, and I don't like the way it makes my fingers feel. I can't imagine what it's like to do that all the time."
Kanan rolled his eyes. Crazy Twi'lek. "Maybe you'd get used to it," Kanan retorted. He yelped as Hera pulled hard.
"Hey!" he shouted. "That was on purpose!"
"Then keep such snide remarks to yourself if you wanna keep your scalp," Hera said, whacking Kanan's head lightly with the brush. "Now let me work."
Kanan mumbled something, but then remained mostly silent as Hera continued her struggle with his hair. The only noise he made was the occasional grunt or yelp of Hera tugged to hard.
After a few more minutes of brushing, all Kanan's tangles had been successfully wrestled out. Hera placed the brush back in the drawer. She gave Kanan the elastic and stood up.
"You know, love," Hera said. "I really do enjoy brushing your hair. There's something calming about it. Very relaxing."
Kanan smiled and stood up. "I'm glad you think so. Maybe I should let you do it more often then. Besides, then it won't be such a mess."
"And it will be less painful for you," Hera smirked.
"Always an added bonus," Kanan chuckled.
